We study finite set-theoretic solutions $(X,r)$ of the Yang-Baxter equation of square-free multipermutation type. We show that each such solution over $\C$ with multipermutation level two can be put in diagonal form with the associated Yang-Baxter algebra $\Acal(\C,X,r)$ having a $q$-commutation form of relations determined by complex phase factors. These complex factors are roots of unity and all roots of a prescribed form appear as determined by the representation theory of finite abelian group $\Gcal$ of left actions on $X$. We study the structure of $\Acal(\C,X,r)$ and show that they have a $\bullet$-product form `quantizing' the commutative algebra of polynomials in $|X|$ variables. We obtain the $\bullet$-product both as a Drinfeld cotwist for a certain canonical 2-cocycle and as a braided-opposite product for a certain crossed $\Gcal$-module (over any field $k$). We provide first steps in the noncommutative differential geometry of $\Acal(k,X,r)$ arising from these results. As a byproduct of our work we find that every such level 2 solution $(X,r)$ factorises as $r=f\circτ\circ f^{-1}$ where $τ$ is the flip map and $(X,f)$ is another solution coming from $X$ as a crossed $\Gcal$-set.
We study involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation of multipermutation level 2. These solutions happen to fall into two classes -- distributive ones and non-distributive ones. The distributive ones can be effectively constructed using a set of abelian groups and a matrix of constants. Using this construction, we enumerate all distributive involutive solutions up to size 14. The non-distributive solutions can be also easily constructed, using a distributive solution and a permutation.
Studying solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation through skew braces, with an application to indecomposable involutive solutions with abelian permutation group
Set-theoretic solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation form a meeting-ground of mathematical physics, algebra and combinatorics. Such a solution consists of a set $X$ and a function r:X x X --> X x X which satisfies the braid relation. We examine solutions here mainly from the point of view of finite permutation groups: a solution gives rise to a map from $X$ to the symmetric group $Sym(X)$ on $X$ satisfying certain conditions. Our results include many new constructions based on strong twisted union and wreath product, with an investigation of retracts and the multipermutation level and the solv…
We extend our recent work on set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter or braid relations with new results about their automorphism groups, strong twisted unions of solutions and multipermutation solutions. We introduce and study graphs of solutions and use our graphical methods for the computation of solutions of finite order and their automorphisms. Results include a detailed study of solutions of multipermutation level 2.
We involve simultaneously the theory of matched pairs of groups and the theory of braces to study set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE). We show the intimate relation between the notions of a symmetric group (a braided involutive group) and a left brace, and find new results on symmetric groups of finite multipermutation level and the corresponding braces. We introduce a new invariant of a symmetric group $(G,r)$, \emph{the derived chain of ideals of} $G$, which gives a precise information about the recursive process of retraction of $G$. We prove that every symmetric group…
A new family of non-degenerate involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation is constructed. All these solutions are strong twisted unions of multipermutation solutions of multipermutation level at most two. A large subfamily consists of irretractable and square-free solutions. This subfamily includes a recent example of Vendramin, who first gave a counterexample to Gateva-Ivanova's Strong Conjecture. All the solutions in this subfamily are new counterexamples to Gateva-Ivanova's Strong Conjecture and also they answer a question of Cameron and Gateva-Ivanova. It is proved that…
Employing the algebraic structure of the left brace and the dynamical extensions of cycle sets, we investigate a class of indecomposable involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation having specific imprimitivity blocks. Moreover, we study one-generator left braces of multipermutation level 2.
Indecomposable involutive non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions $(X,r)$ of the Yang-Baxter equation of cardinality $p_1\cdots p_n$, for different prime numbers $p_1,\ldots, p_n$, are studied. It is proved that they are multipermutation solutions of level $\leq n$. In particular, there is no simple solution of a non-prime square-free cardinality. This solves a problem stated in [F. Cedó, J. Okniński, Constructing finite simple solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation, Adv. Math. 391 (2021), 107968] and provides a far reaching extension of several earlier results on indecomposability of solutions.…
An $n\times n$ matrix $M=[m_{ij}]$ with $m_{ij}\in U_n=\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ will be called a cycle matrix if $(U_n,\cdot)$ is a cycle set, where $i\cdot j=m_{ij}$. We study these matrices in this article. Using these matrices, we give some recipes to construct solutions, which include the multipermutation level $2$ solutions. As an application of these, we construct a multi-permutation solution of level $r$ for all $r\geq 1$. Our method gives alternate proof that the class of permutation groups of solutions contains all finite abelian groups.
It is shown that square free set theoretic involutive non-degenerate solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation whose associated permutation group (referred to as an involutive Yang-Baxter group) is abelian are retractable in the sense of Etingof, Schedler and Soloviev. This solves a problem of Gateva-Ivanova in the case of abelian IYB groups. It also implies that the corresponding finitely presented abelian-by-finite groups (called the structure groups) are poly-${\mathbb Z}$ groups. Secondly, an example of a solution with an abelian involutive Yang-Baxter group which is not a generalized twisted …
We study the level-one irreducible highest weight representations of $U_q[\hat{gl(1|1)}]$ and associated q-vertex operators. We obtain the exchange relations satisfied by the vertex operators. The characters and supercharacters associated with these irreducible representations are calculated.
We study quantum current algebra $\textrm{A}(\overline{R})$ associated with the rational $R$-matrix of $\mathfrak{gl}_N$ and we give explicit formulae for the elements of its center at the critical level. Due to Etingof--Kazhdan's construction, the level $c$ vacuum module $\mathcal{V}_c(\overline{R})$ for the algebra $\textrm{A}(\overline{R})$ possesses a quantum vertex algebra structure for any complex number $c$. We prove that any module for the quantum vertex algebra $\mathcal{V}_c(\overline{R})$ is naturally equipped with a structure of restricted $\textrm{A}(\overline{R})$-module of level…
We give interpretations of energy functions and (classically restricted) one-dimensional sums associated to tensor products of level-zero fundamental representations of quantum affine algebras in terms of Lakshmibai-Seshadri paths of level-zero weight shape.
In this note we present an explicit realization of the affine vertex algebra $V^{cri}(\frak{gl}(1 \vert 1)) $ inside of the tensor product $F\otimes M$ where $F$ is a fermionic verex algebra and $M$ is a commutative vertex algebra. This immediately gives an alternative description of the center of $V^{cri}(\frak{gl}(1 \vert 1) ) )$ as a subalgebra $M _ 0$ of $M$. We reconstruct the Molev-Mukhin formula for the Hilbert-Poincare series of the center of $V^ {cri}(\frak{gl}(1 \vert 1) )$. Moreover, we construct a family of irreducible $V^{cri}(\frak{gl}(1 \vert 1))$ -modules realized on $F$ and pa…
We introduce and study the quantum toroidal algebra $\mathcal{E}_{m|n}(q_1,q_2,q_3)$ associated with the superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n}$ with $m\neq n$, where the parameters satisfy $q_1q_2q_3=1$. We give an evaluation map. The evaluation map is a surjective homomorphism of algebras $\mathcal{E}_{m|n}(q_1,q_2,q_3) \to \widetilde{U}_q\,\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}_{m|n}$ to the quantum affine algebra associated with the superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n}$ at level $c$ completed with respect to the homogeneous grading, where $q_2=q^2$ and $q_3^{m-n}=c^2$. We also give a bosonic realization of level…
We generalize the string functions C_{n,r}(tau) associated with the coset ^sl(2)_k/u(1) to higher string functions A_{n,r}(tau) and B_{n,r}(tau) associated with the coset W(k)/u(1) of the W-algebra of the logarithmically extended ^sl(2)_k conformal field model with positive integer k. The higher string functions occur in decomposing W(k) characters with respect to level-k theta and Appell functions and their derivatives (the characters are neither quasiperiodic nor holomorphic, and therefore cannot decompose with respect to only theta-functions). The decomposition coefficients, to be considere…
We introduce the $h$-adic quantum vertex algebras associated with the rational $R$-matrix in types $B$, $C$ and $D$, thus generalizing the Etingof--Kazhdan's construction in type $A$. Next, we construct the algebraically independent generators of the center of the $h$-adic quantum vertex algebra in type $B$ at the critical level, as well as the families of central elements in types $C$ and $D$. Finally, as an application, we obtain commutative subalgebras of the dual Yangian and the families of central elements of the appropriately completed double Yangian at the critical level, in types $B$, …
Level-one representations of the quantum affine superalgebra $U_q[\hat{gl(N|N)}]$ associated to the appropriate non-standard system of simple roots and $q$-vertex operators (intertwining operators) associated with the level-one modules are constructed explicitly in terms of free bosonic fields.
Let L(n-l+1/2,0) be the vertex operator algebra associated to an affine Lie algebra of type B_l^(1) at level n-l+1/2, for a positive integer n. We classify irreducible L(n-l+1/2,0)-modules and show that every L(n-l+1/2,0)-module is completely reducible. In the special case n=1, we study a category of weak L(-l+3/2,0)-modules which are in the category $\cal{O}$ as modules for the associated affine Lie algebra. We classify irreducible objects in that category and prove semisimplicity of that category.
We apply the theory of $ϕ$-coordinated modules, developed by H.-S. Li, to the Etingof--Kazhdan quantum affine vertex algebra associated with the trigonometric $R$-matrix of type $A$. We prove, for a certain associate $ϕ$ of the one-dimensional additive formal group, that any $ϕ$-coordinated module for the level $c\in\mathbb{C}$ quantum affine vertex algebra is naturally equipped with a structure of restricted level $c$ module for the quantum affine algebra in type $A$ and vice versa. Moreover, we show that any $ϕ$-coordinated module is irreducible with respect to the action of the quantum affi…
Exceptional modular invariants for the Lie algebras B2 (at levels 2,3,7,12) and G2 (at levels 3,4) can be obtained from conformal embeddings. We determine the associated alge bras of quantum symmetries and discover or recover, as a by-product, the graphs describing exceptional quantum subgroups of type B2 or G2 which encode their module structure over the associated fusion category. Global dimensions are given.
Let V be a vertex operator algebra and m,n be nonnegative integers. We construct an A_n(V)-A_m(V)-bimodule A_{n,m}(V) which determines the action of V from the level m subspace to level n subspace of an admissible V-module. We show how to use A_{n,m}(V) to construct naturally admissible V-modules from A_m(V)-modules. We also determine the structure of A_{n,m}(V) when V is rational.
We study a family of mutually commutative difference operators associated with the affine root systems. These operators act on the space of meromorphic functions on the Cartan subalgebra of the affine Lie algebra. We show that the space spanned by the characters of a fixed positive level is invariant under the action of these operators.
Let g be a complex simple Lie algebra, f a nilpotent element of g. We show that (1) the center of the W-algebra $W^{cri}(g,f)$ associated with (g,f) at the critical level coincides with the Feigin-Frenkel center of the affine Lie algebra associated with g, (2) the centerless quotient $W_χ(g,f)$ of $W^{cri}(g,f)$ corresponding to an oper $χ$ on the disc is simple, (3) the simple quotient $W_χ(g,f)$ is a quantization of the jet scheme of the intersection of the Slodowy slice at f with the nilpotent cone of g.
We consider the quantum vertex algebra associated with the trigonometric R-matrix in type A as defined by Etingof and Kazhdan. We show that its center is a commutative associative algebra and construct an algebraically independent family of topological generators of the center at the critical level.
On a Fock space constructed from $mn$ free bosons and lattice ${\Bbb {Z}}^{mn}$, we give a level $n$ action of the quantum toroidal algebra $\mathscr {E}_m$ associated to $\mathfrak{gl}_m$, together with a level $m$ action of the quantum toroidal algebra ${\mathscr E}_n$ associated to ${\mathfrak {gl}}_n$. We prove that the $\mathscr {E}_m$ transfer matrices commute with the $\mathscr {E}_n$ transfer matrices after an appropriate identification of parameters.
We prove the periodicities of the restricted T and Y-systems associated with the quantum affine algebra of type B_r at any level. We also prove the dilogarithm identities for the Y-systems of type B_r at any level. Our proof is based on the tropical Y-systems and the categorification of the cluster algebra associated with any skew-symmetric matrix by Plamondon. Using this new method, we also give an alternative and simplified proof of the periodicities of the T and Y-systems associated with pairs of simply laced Dynkin diagrams.
Dynamical quantum groups were introduced by Etingof and Varchenko in connection with the dynamical quantum Yang-Baxter equation, and measured quantum groupoids were introduced by Enock, Lesieur and Vallin in their study of inclusions of type II_1 factors. In this article, we associate to suitable dynamical quantum groups, which are a purely algebraic objects, Hopf C*-bimodules and measured quantum groupoids on the level of von Neumann algebras. Assuming invariant integrals on the dynamical quantum group, we first construct a fundamental unitary which yields Hopf bimodules on the level of C*-al…
A level-one representation of the quantum affine superalgebra $\U_q(\hat{\frak{sl}}(M+1|N+1))$ and vertex operators associated with the fundamental representations are constructed in terms of free bosonic fields. Character formulas of level-one irreducible highest weight modules of $\U_q(\hat{\frak{sl}}(2|1))$ are conjectured.
As today's nanotechnology focus becomes primarily oriented toward production and manipulation of materials at the subatomic level, allowing the performance and complexity of interconnects where the device density accepts more than hundreds devices on a single chip, the manipulation of semiconductor nanostructures at the subatomic level sets its prime tasks on preserving and adequate transmission of information encoded in specified (quantum) states. The presented study employs the quantum communication protocol based on the hypergraph network model where the numerical solutions of equations of …
