In this paper we derive approximate quasi-interpolants when the values of a function $u$ and of some of its derivatives are prescribed at the points of a uniform grid. As a byproduct of these formulas we obtain very simple approximants which provide high order approximations for solutions to elliptic differential equations with constant coefficients.
The aim of this paper is to study the approximation of functions using a higher order Hermite-Fejer interpolation process on the unit circle. The system of nodes is composed of vertically projected zeros of Jacobi polynomials onto the unit circle with boundary points at $ \pm1 $. Values of the polynomial and its first four derivatives are fixed by the interpolation conditions at the nodes. Convergence of the process is obtained for analytic functions on a suitable domain, and the rate of convergence is estimated.

We describe a general approach for constructing a broad class of operators approximating high-dimensional curves based on geometric Hermite data. The geometric Hermite data consists of point samples and their associated tangent vectors of unit length. Extending the classical Hermite interpolation of functions, this geometric Hermite problem has become popular in recent years and has ignited a series of solutions in the 2D plane and 3D space. Here, we present a method for approximating curves, which is valid in any dimension. A basic building block of our approach is a Hermite average - a notio…
The main contribution of this paper is twofold: On the one hand, a general framework for performing Hermite interpolation on Riemannian manifolds is presented. The method is applicable, if algorithms for the associated Riemannian exponential and logarithm mappings are available. This includes many of the matrix manifolds that arise in practical Riemannian computing application such as data analysis and signal processing, computer vision and image processing, structured matrix optimization problems and model reduction. On the other hand, we expose a natural relation between data processing erro…
The construction of smooth spatial paths with Pythagorean-hodograph (PH) quintic spline biarcs is proposed. To facilitate real-time computations of $C^2$ PH quintic splines, an efficient local data stream interpolation algorithm is introduced. Each spline segment interpolates second and first order Hermite data at the initial and final end-point, respectively. In the spline extension of the scheme a $C^2$ smooth connection between successive spline segments is obtained by taking the locally required second-order derivative information from the previous segment. Consequently, the data stream sp…

The library QIBSH++ is a C++ object oriented library for the solution of Quasi Interpolation problems. The library is based on a Hermite Quasi Interpolating operator, which was derived as continuous extensions of linear multistep methods applied for the numerical solution of Boundary Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations. The library includes the possibility to use Hermite data or to apply a finite difference scheme for derivative approximations, when derivative values are not directly available. The generalization of the quasi interpolation procedure to surfaces and volumes appro…
In this paper, we propose two methods for multivariate Hermite interpolation of manifold-valued functions. On the one hand, we approach the problem via computing suitable weighted Riemannian barycenters. To satisfy the conditions for Hermite interpolation, the sampled derivative information is converted into a condition on the derivatives of the associated weight functions. It turns out that this requires the solution of linear systems of equations, but no vector transport is necessary. This approach treats all given sample data points equally and is intrinsic in the sense that it does not dep…

The Hermite methods of Goodrich, Hagstrom, and Lorenz (2006) use Hermite interpolation to construct high order numerical methods for hyperbolic initial value problems. The structure of the method has several favorable features for parallel computing. In this work, we propose algorithms that take advantage of the many-core architecture of Graphics Processing Units. The algorithm exploits the compact stencil of Hermite methods and uses data structures that allow for efficient data load and stores. Additionally the highly localized evolution operator of Hermite methods allows us to combine multi-…
A high order finite difference method is proposed for unstructured meshes to simulate compressible inviscid/viscous flows with/without discontinuities. In this method, based on the strong form equation, the divergence of the flux on each vertex is computed directly from fluxes nearby by means of high order least-square. In order to capture discontinuities, numerical flux of high order accuracy is calculated on each edge and serves as supporting data of the least-square computation of the divergence. The high accuracy of the numerical flux depends on the high order WENO interpolation on each ed…
The method of constructing trigonometric Hermite splines, which interpolate the values of some periodic function and its derivatives in the nodes of a uniform grid, is considered. The proposed method is based on the periodicity properties of trigonometric functions and is reduced to solving only systems of linear algebraic equations of the second order; solutions of these systems can be obtained in advance. When implementing this method, it is necessary to calculate the coefficients of interpolation trigonometric polynomials that interpolate the values of the function itself and the values of …
Spline interpolation has been used in several applications due to its favorable properties regarding smoothness and accuracy of the interpolant. However, when there exists a discontinuity or a steep gradient in the data, some artifacts can appear due to the Gibbs phenomenon. Also, preservation of data monotonicity is a requirement in some applications, and that property is not automatically verified by the interpolator. In this paper, we study sufficient conditions to obtain monotone cubic splines based on Hermite cubic interpolators and propose different ways to construct them using non-linea…

We study the interpolation analogue of the Hermite-Padé type I approximation problem. We provide its determinant solution and we write down the corresponding integrable discrete system as an admissible reduction of Hirota's discrete Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equations. Apart from the $τ$-function form of the system we provide its variant, which in the simplest case of dimension two reduces to the non-autonomous discrete-time Toda equations.
