Single crystals of the compound LaFePO were prepared using a flux growth technique at high temperatures. Electrical resistivity measurements reveal metallic behavior and a resistive transition to the superconducting state at a critical temperature T_c ~ 6.6 K. Magnetization measurements also show the onset of superconductivity near 6 K. In contrast, specific heat measurements manifest no discontinuity at T_c. These results lend support to the conclusion that the superconductivity is associated with oxygen vacancies that alter the carrier concentration in a small fraction of the sample, although superconductivity characterized by an unusually small gap value can not be ruled-out. Under applied magnetic fields, T_c is suppressed anisotropically for fields perpendicular and parallel to the ab-plane, suggesting that the crystalline anisotropy strongly influences the superconducting state. Preliminary high-pressure measurements show that T_c passes through a maximum of nearly 14 K at ~ 110 kbar, demonstrating that significantly higher T_c values may be achieved in the phosphorus-based oxypnictides.
Heat capacity measurements were performed on recently discovered iron based layered superconductors, non doped LaFePO and fluorine doped LaFePO. A relatively large electronic heat capacity coefficient and a small normalized heat capacity jump at Tc = 3.3 K were observed in LaFePO. LaFePO0.94F0.06 had a smaller electronic heat capacity coefficient and a larger normalized heat capacity jump at Tc = 5.8 K. These values indicate that these compounds have strong electron electron correlation and magnetic spin fluctuation, which are the signatures of unconventional superconductivity mediated by spin…
We have studied the intrinsic normal and superconducting properties of the oxypnictide LaFePO. These samples exhibit bulk superconductivity and the evidence suggests that stoichiometric LaFePO is indeed superconducting, in contrast to other reports. We find that superconductivity is independent of the interplane residual resistivity $ρ_0$ and discuss the implications of this on the nature of the superconducting order parameter. Finally we find that, unlike $T_c$, other properties in single-crystal LaFePO including the resistivity and magnetoresistance, can be very sensitive to disorder.
We measure changes in the penetration depth $λ$ of the $T_c \approx 6$ K superconductor LaFePO. In the process scanning SQUID susceptometry is demonstrated as a technique for accurately measuring {\it local} temperature-dependent changes in $λ$, making it ideal for studying early or difficult-to-grow materials. $λ$ of LaFePO is found to vary linearly with temperature from 0.36 to $\sim$2 K, with a slope of 143$\pm$15 Å/K, suggesting line nodes in the superconducting order parameter. The linear dependence up to $\sim T_c/3$ is similar to the cuprate superconductors, indicating well-developed no…
In several iron-arsenide superconductors there is strong evidence for a fully gapped superconducting state consistent with either a conventional s-wave symmetry or an unusual $s_\pm$ state where there the gap changes sign between the electron and hole Fermi surface sheets. Here we report measurements of the penetration depth $λ(T)$ in very clean samples of the related iron-phosphide superconductor, LaFePO, at temperatures down to $\sim$ 100 mK. We find that $λ(T)$ varies almost perfectly linearly with $T$ strongly suggesting the presence of gap nodes in this compound. Taken together with other…
Spin fluctuations are widely believed to play an important role in the superconducting mechanisms of unconventional high-temperature superconductors. Spin fluctuations have been observed in iron-based superconductors as well. However, in some iron-based superconductors such as LaFePO$_{0.9}$, they have not been observed by inelastic neutron scattering (INS). LaFePO$_{0.9}$ is an iron-based superconductor with a low superconducting transition temperature ($T_{\rm c}$= 5 K), where line nodes are observed in the superconducting gap function. The line-node symmetry typically originates from sign r…
Single crystals of the compounds LaFePO, PrFePO, and NdFePO have been prepared by means of a flux growth technique and studied by electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements. We have found that PrFePO and NdFePO display superconductivity with values of the superconducting critical temperature T_c of 3.2 K and 3.1 K, respectively. The effect of annealing on the properties of LaFePO, PrFePO, and NdFePO is also reported. The LnFePO (Ln = lanthanide) compounds are isostructural with the LnFeAsO_{1-x}F_x compounds that become superconducting with T_c values as hig…
The superconducting gap structure of LaFePO ($T_c=7.4 $K) is studied by thermal conductivity ($κ$) at low temperatures in fields $H$ parallel and perpendicular to the c axis. A clear two-step field dependence of $κ(H)$ with a characteristic field $H_s(\sim 350$ Oe) much lower than the upper critical field $H_{c2}$ is observed. In spite of large anisotropy of $H_{c2}$, $κ(H)$ in both $H$-directions is nearly identical below $H_s$. Above $H_s$, $κ(H)$ grows gradually with $H$ with a convex curvature, followed by a steep increase with strong upward curvature near $H_{c2}$. These results indicate …
A polycrystalline sample of superconducting LaFePO was prepared in a tin flux at 1123 K. The structure was determined from single crystal data (ZrCuSiAs-type, P4/nmm, a = 3.9610(1), c = 8.5158(2) A, Z = 2) and the phase analysis was performed by the Rietveld method. LaFePO is Pauli-paramagnetic and becomes superconducting at 7 K after removing the ferromagnetic impurity phase Fe2P from the sample. 57Fe Moessbauer spectroscopy measurements at 298, 77, 4.2 and 4 K show single signals at isomer shifts around 0.35 mm/s, subject to weak quadrupole splitting. At 4 K, a symmetric line broadening appe…
A new layered oxypnictide (Fe2P2)(Sr4Sc2O6) have been synthesized by solid-state reaction. This material has an alternating layer stacking structure of anti-fluorite Fe2P2 and perovskite-based Sr4Sc2O6 oxide layers. Space group of the material is P4/nmm and lattice constants a and c are 4.016 A and 15.543 A, respectively. The interlayer Fe-Fe distance corresponding to the c-axis length is the longest ever reported in the iron-based oxypnictide systems. In both magnetization and resistivity measurements, the present compound exhibited superconductivity below 17 K, which is much higher than that…
We study the effect of the lattice structure on the spin-fluctuation mediated superconductivity in the iron pnictides adopting the five-band models of several virtual lattice structures of LaFeAsO as well as actual materials such as NdFeAsO and LaFePO obtained from the maximally-localized Wannier orbitals. Random phase approximation is applied to the models to solve the Eliashberg equation. This reveals that the gap function and the strength of the superconducting instability are determined by the cooperation or competition among multiple spin fluctuation modes arising from several nestings am…
We present the ultra-low-temperature heat transport study of an iron-based superconductor Ba(Fe$_{0.64}$Ru$_{0.36}$)$_2$As$_2$ ($T_c$ = 20.2 K), in which the superconductivity is induced by isovalent Ru substitution. In zero field we find a large residual linear term $κ_0/T$, more than 40% of the normal-state value. At low field, the $κ_0/T$ shows an $H^{1/2}$ dependence. These provide strong evidences for nodes in the superconducting gap of Ba(Fe$_{0.64}$Ru$_{0.36}$)$_2$As$_2$, which mimics that in another isovalently substituted superconductor BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$. Our results show …
We studied the correlation among structure and transport properties and superconductivity in the different $A_x$Fe$_2$Se$_2$ single crystals ($A$ = K, Rb, and Cs). Two sets of (00$l$) reflections are observed in the X-ray single crystal diffraction patterns, and arise from the intrinsic inhomogeneous distribution of the intercalated alkali atoms. The occurrence of superconductivity is closely related to the {\sl c}-axis lattice constant, and the $A$ content is crucial to superconductivity. The hump observed in resistivity seems to be irrelevant to superconductivity. There exist many deficienci…
The theory of paramagnetic limit of superconductivity in metals without inversion center is developed. There is in general the paramagnetic suppression of superconducting state. The effect is strongly dependent on field orientation in respect to crystal axes. The reason for this is that the degeneracy of electronic states with opposite momenta forming of Cooper pairs is lifted by magnetic field but for some field directions this lifting can be small or even absent.
Single crystals of undoped CaFe2As2 were grown by a FeAs self-flux method, and the crystals were quenched in ice-water rapidly after high temperature growth. The quenched crystal undergoes a collapsed tetragonal structural phase transition around 80 K revealed by the temperature dependent X-ray diffraction measurements. Superconductivity below 25 K was observed in the collapsed phase by resistivity and magnetization measurements. The isothermal magnetization curve measured at 2 K indicates that this is a typical type-II superconductor. For comparison, we systematically characterized the proper…
Since the discovery of superconductivity in LaFePO in 2006, numerous iron-based superconductors have been identified within diverse structure families, all of which combine iron with a group-V (pnictogen) or group-VI (chalco- gen) element. Unconventional superconductivity is extremely rare among transition metal compounds outside these layered iron systems and the cuprates, and it is almost universally associated with highly anisotropic electronic properties and nearly 2D Fermi surface geometries. The iron-based intermetallic YFe$_2$Ge$_2$ features a 3D Fermi surface and a strongly enhanced lo…
Superconductivity was discovered in a Ni0:05TaS2 single crystal. A Ni0:05TaS2 single crystal was successfully grown via the NaCl/KCl flux method. The obtained lattice constant c of Ni0:05TaS2 is 1.1999 nm, which is significantly smaller than that of 2H-TaS2 (1.208 nm). Electrical resistivity and magnetization measurements reveal that the superconductivity transition temperature of Ni0:05TaS2 is enhanced from 0.8 K (2H-TaS2) to 3.9 K. The charge-density-wave transition of the matrix compound 2H-TaS2 is suppressed in Ni0:05TaS2. The success of Ni0:05TaS2 single crystal growth via a NaCl/KCl flux…
We present evidence of type-I superconductivity in single crystals of ScGa3 and LuGa3, from magnetization, specific heat, and resistivity measurements: low critical temperatures Tc = 2.1-2.2 K; field-induced secondto first-order phase transition in the specific heat, critical fields less than 240 Oe; and low Ginzburg-Landau coefficients κ approx 0.23 and 0.30 for ScGa3 and LuGa3, respectively, are all traits of a type-I superconducting ground state. These observations render ScGa3 and LuGa3 two of only several type-I superconducting compounds, with most other superconductors being type II (com…
Superatomic crystals are composed of discrete modular clusters that emulate the role of atoms in traditional atomic solids$^{1-4}$. Owing to their unique hierarchical structures, these materials are promising candidates to host exotic phenomena, such as superconductivity and magnetism that can be revealed through doping$^{5-10}$. Low-dimensional superatomic crystals hold great promise as electronic components$^{11,12}$, enabling these properties to be applied to nanocircuits, but the impact of doping in such compounds remains unexplored. Here we report the electrical transport properties of Re…
We report the discovery of superconductivity and detailed normal-state physical properties of RbV3Sb5 single crystals with V kagome lattice. RbV3Sb5 single crystals show a superconducting transition at Tc ~ 0.92 K. Meanwhile, resistivity, magnetization and heat capacity measurements indicate that it exhibits anomalies of properties at T* ~ 102 - 103 K, possibly related to the formation of charge ordering state. When T is lower than T*, the Hall coefficient RH undergoes a drastic change and sign reversal from negative to positive, which can be partially explained by the enhanced mobility of hol…
Bulk superconductivity in a topological semimetal is a first step towards realizing topological superconductors, which can host Majorana fermions allowing us to achieve quantum computing. Here, we report superconductivity and compensation of electrons and holes in single crystals of the nodal-line semimetal CaSb$_2$. We characterize the superconducting state and find that Cooper pairs have moderate-weak coupling, and the superconducting transition in specific heat down to 0.22 K deviates from that of a BCS superconductor. The non-saturating magnetoresistance and electron-hole compensation at l…
The discovery of nearly room-temperature superconductivity in superhydrides has motivated further materials research for conventional superconductors. To realize the moderately high critical temperature $(T_\mathrm{c})$ in materials containing light elements, we explored new superconducting phases in a scandium borocarbide system. Here, we report the observation of superconductivity in a new ternary Sc-B-C compound. The crystal structure, which was determined through a Rietveld analysis, belongs to tetragonal space group $P4/ncc$. By complementarily using the density functional theory calculat…
We report the detailed transport, magnetic, thermodynamic properties and theoretical calculation of KBi2 single crystals in superconducting and normal states. KBi2 shows metallic behavior at normal state and enters superconducting state below Tc = 3.573 K. Moreover, KBi2 exhibits low critical fields in all of measurements, field-induced crossover from second to first-order phase transition in specific heat measurement, typical magnetization isotherms of type-I superconductors, and small Ginzburg-Landau parameter kappaGL = 0.611. These results clearly indicate that KB2 is a type-I superconducto…
In the work the analysis of crystal chemical researches of nickel borocarbides RNi2B2C (R = rare earth) is given. The reasons of representation of dependence of Tc from crystal chemical parameters by two separate curves for magnetic and nonmagnetic R are considered. Common for all R dependences of Tc from crystal chemical parameters similar existing in layered quasi-two-dimensional systems (HTSC cuprates and diborides) are established. The absence of influence on borocarbides Tc of magnetic properties R is determined. On the basis of the found correlations the radii of a number of rare earths …
Superconducting single crystals of pure FeTe1 xSex and FeTe0.65Se0.35 doped with Co, Ni, Cu, Mn, Zn, Mo, Cd, In, Pb, Hg, V, Ga, Mg, Al, Ti, Cr, Sr or Nd into Fe ions site have been grown applying Bridgman's method. It has been found that the sharpness of transition to the superconducting state in FeTe1 xSex is evidently inversely correlated with crystallographic quality of the crystals. Among all of the studied dopants only Co, Ni and Cu substitute Fe ions in FeTe0.65Se0.35 crystals. The remaining examined ions do not incorporate into the crystal structure. Nevertheless, they form inclusions t…
We investigate the superconducting properties and possible nematic superconductivity of self-doped BiCh2-based (Ch: S, Se) superconductor CeOBiS1.7Se0.3 through the measurements of in-plane anisotropy of magnetoresistance. Single crystals of CeOBiS1.7Se0.3 were grown using a flux method. Single-crystal structural analysis revealed that the crystal structure at room temperature is tetragonal (P4/nmm). Bulk superconductivity with a transition temperature of 3.3 K was observed through electrical resistivity and magnetization measurements. Investigation of anisotropy of upper critical field sugges…
We have synthesized four iron-based oxyarsenide superconductors Rb$Ln_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$O$_2$ ($Ln$ = Sm, Tb, Dy and Ho) resulting from the intergrowth of RbFe$_2$As$_2$ and $Ln$FeAsO. It is found that the lattice match between RbFe$_2$As$_2$ and $Ln$FeAsO is crucial for the phase formation. The structural intergrowth leads to double asymmetric Fe$_2$As$_2$ layers that are separated by insulating $Ln_2$O$_2$ slabs. Consequently, the materials are intrinsically doped at a level of 0.25 holes/Fe-atom and, bulk superconductivity emerges at $T_\mathrm{c}$ = 35.8, 34.7, 34.3 and 33.8 K, respectively, f…
Nodal-line superconductor NaAlSi with a transition temperature ($T_c$) of 7 K has attracted considerable attention in recent years, whereas its Ge counterpart, NaAlGe, does not superconduct down to the lowest temperature regardless of their similar atomic and electrical structures. To tackle this enigma, we resort to the growth of NaAlGe single crystal and characterize its semimetallic ground state. Interestingly, when hole doped by oxidation, single-crystalline NaAlGe transforms from a semimetal to a superconductor ($T_c = 2.3 \sim$ 3.5 K) with zero resistivity and a diamagnetic shielding fra…

Recently a new family of Cr-based A2Cr3As3 (A = K, Rb, Cs) superconductors were reported, which own a rare quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) crystal structure with infinite (Cr3As3)2- chains and exhibit intriguing superconducting characteristics possibly derived from spin-triplet electron pairing. The crystal structure of A2Cr3As3 is actually a slight variation of the hexagonal TlFe3Te3 prototype although they have different lattice symmetry. Here we report superconductivity in a 133-type KCr3As3 compound that belongs to the latter structure. The single crystals of KCr3As3 were prepared by the deint…
Here we report the preparation and superconductivity of the 133-type Cr-based quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) RbCr3As3 single crystals. The samples were prepared by the deintercalation of Rb+ ions from the 233-type Rb2Cr3As3 crystals which were grown from a high-temperature solution growth method. The RbCr3As3 compound crystallizes in a centrosymmetric structure with the space group of P63/m (No. 176) different with its non-centrosymmetric Rb2Cr3As3 superconducting precursor, and the refined lattice parameters are a = 9.373(3) Å and c = 4.203(7) Å. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibilit…
We measure the superconducting transition of YIn$_3$ by resistivity, susceptibility, and specific heat. Despite using high-quality single-crystal samples, the transitions detected by the three techniques are shifted from each other in temperature, suggesting a region of filamentary superconductivity. We discuss the possible implications for filamentary superconductivity in unconventional superconductors.

Layered transition-metal dichalcogenides 1T-TaS2-xSex (0<=x<=2) single crystals have been successfully fabricated by using a chemical vapor transport technique in which Ta locates in octahedral coordination with S and Se atoms. This is the first superconducting example by the substitution of S site, which violates an initial rule based on the fact that superconductivity merely emerges in 1T-TaS2 by applying the high pressure or substitution of Ta site. We demonstrate the appearance of a series of electronic states in 1T-TaS2-xSex with Se content. Namely, the Mott phase melts into a nearly comm…
Polycrystalline La$_{7}$Ir$_{3}$ is reported to show superconductivity breaking time-reversal symmetry while also having an isotropic $s$-wave gap. Single crystals of this noncentrosymmetric superconductor are highly desirable to understand the nature of the electron pairing mechanism in this system. Here we report the growth of high-quality single crystals of La$_{7}$Ir$_{3}$ by the Czochralski method. The structural and superconducting properties of these large crystals have been investigated using x-rays, magnetization, resistivity and heat capacity measurements. We observe a clear anisotro…
We have successfully observed quantum oscillation (QO) for FeTe_{1-x}Se_{x}. QO measurements were performed using non-superconducting and superconducting thin crystals of FeTe_{0.65}Se_{0.35} fabricated by the scotch-tape method. We show that the Fermi surfaces (FS) of the non-superconducting crystal are in good agreement with the rigid band shift model based on electron doping by excess Fe while that of the superconducting crystal is in good agreement with the calculated FS with no shift. From the FS comparison of both crystals, we demonstrate the change of the cross-sectional area of the FS,…
Superconducting topological crystalline insulators (TCI) are predicted to host new topological phases protected by crystalline symmetries, but available materials are insufficiently suitable for surface studies. To induce superconductivity at the surface of a prototypical TCI SnTe, we use molecular beam epitaxy to grow a heterostructure of SnTe and a high-Tc superconductor Fe(Te,Se), utilizing a 'buffer' layer to bridge the large lattice mismatch between SnTe and Fe(Te,Se). Using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, we measure a prominent spectral gap on the surface …
The coupling between superconductivity and othorhombic distortion is studied in vapor-grown FeSe single crystals using high-resolution thermal-expansion measurements. In contrast to the Ba122-based (Ba122) superconductors, we find that superconductivity does not reduce the orthorhombicity below Tc. Instead we find that superconductivity couples strongly to the in-plane area, which explains the large hydrostatic pressure effects. We discuss our results in light of the spinnematic scenario and argue that FeSe has many features quite different from the typical Fe-based superconductors.
The recent discovery of superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelate films has aroused great interest since it provides a new platform to explore the mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity. However, superconductivity only appears in the thin film form and synthesizing superconducting nickelate films is extremely challenging, limiting the in-depth studies on this compound. Here, we explore the critical parameters in the growth of high quality nickelate films using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). We found that stoichiometry is crucial in optimizing the crystalline structure and realizing…
We investigated the S-doping-driven phase transition from antiferromagnetic to superconducting in FeTe1-xSx single crystals. The partial substitution of Te by S suppresses antiferromagnetism in Fe-square lattice. Superconductivity is induced by oxygen annealing for only FeTe1-xSx in which the long-range magnetic ordering is suppressed. To realize superconductivity in FeTe1-xSx, both S concentration enough to suppress antiferromagnetism and oxygen annealing are required. Anisotropy of superconductivity in oxygen-annealed FeTe0.886S0.114 was estimated to be 1.17.
We report synthesis of high quality Fe1+y(Te1-xSx)z single crystals and a comprehensive study of structural, magnetic and transport properties. There is high sensitivity to material stoichiometry which includes vacancies on the Te(S) site. Our results reveal competition and coexistence of magnetic order and percolative superconductivity for x >= 0.03, while zero resistivity is acheived for x >= 0.1.
Spin-triplet superconductivity is known to be a rare quantum phenomenon. Here we show that nonsymmorphic crystalline symmetries can dramatically assist spin-triplet superconductivity in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. Even with a weak spin-orbit coupling, the spin-triplet pairing can be the leading pairing instability in a lattice with a nonsymmorphic symmetry. The underlining mechanism is the spin-sublattice-momentum lock on electronic bands that are protected by the nonsymmorphic symmetry. We use the nonsymmorphic space group P4/nmm to demonstrate these results and discuss related exper…
We study the structural and bulk superconducting properties of self flux grown PdBi2Te3 single crystal. Phase purity of as grown crystal is confirmed by Rietveld refinement of gently crushed powder XRD of the same. PdBi2Te3 crystallizes in rhombohedral structure with R-3 m space group along with small impurity of Bi. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images showed layered structure and the elemental analysis by energy dispersive X Ray analysis (EDAX) done on same confirmed the stoichiometry to be near to PdBi2Te3. Characteristic vibrational modes viz. A11g, Eg2, A21g are clearly observed in R…
In order to investigate whether magnetism and superconductivity coexist in Co-doped SrFe$_2$As$_2$, we have prepared single crystals of SrFe$_{2-x}$Co$_x$As$_2$, $x$ = 0 and 0.4, and characterized them via X-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity in zero and applied field up to 9 T as well as at ambient and applied pressure up to 1.6 GPa, and magnetic susceptibility. At $x$ = 0.4, there is both magnetic and resistive evidence for a spin density wave transition at 120 K, while $T_c$ = 19.5 K - indicating coexistent magnetism and superconductivity. A discussion of how these results compare with…
Resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements are reported for single crystals of Fe1+yTexSe1-x grown via a modified Bridgeman method with 0 < y < 0.15, and x= 1, 0.9, 0.75, 0. 67, 0.55 and 0.5. Although resistivity measurements show traces of superconductivity near 14 K for all x except x=1, only crystals grown with compositions near x=0.5 exhibit bulk superconductivity. The appearance of bulk superconductivity correlates with a reduction in the magnitude of the magnetic susceptibility at room temperature and smaller values of y, the concentration of Fe in the Fe(2) site…
Symmetry of the crystal lattice can be a determining factor for the structure of Cooper pairs in unconventional superconductors. In this study we extend the discussion of superconductivity in non-centrosymmetric materials to the case when inversion symmetry is missing locally, but is present on a global level. Concretely, we investigate the staggered non-centrosymmetricity within a regular sublattice structure, in some analogy to the discussion of superconductivity in antiferromagnetic systems. Three crystal structures are analyzed in detail as illustrative examples for the extended classifica…
The effect of vacuum annealing on superconductivity is investigated in Fe(Se,Te) single crystals. It is found that superconductivity is not enhanced by annealing under high vacuum (~ 10^(-3) Pa) or by annealing in a sealed evacuated quartz tube. In a moderate vacuum atmosphere (~ 1 Pa), iron oxide layers are found to show up on sample surfaces, which would draw excess Fe out of the crystal. Thus, it is suggested that remanent oxygen effectively works to remove excess Fe from the matrix of Fe(Se,Te) crystals, resulting improvement of superconducting transition temperature. Our transport measure…
The effect of Co doping on supercoductivity of FeSe$_{0.4}$Te$_{0.6}$ single crystals is investigated. The superconducting transition temperature decreases linearly for Co doping with the rate -0.75 K/(Co %). On the other hand, the residual resistivity increase is less than 50 $/mu/Omega$cm for 4 % Co doping. These data are consistent with the sign changing interband scattering mechanism of superconductivity ($s_/pm$ symmetry).
Single crystals FeSe_x have been grown in evacuated sealed quartz tube using a NaCl/KCl flux. The products include two crystal structures of tetragon and hexagon. The electronic transport and magnetic properties measurements of FeSe_x single crystal exhibits a superconducting transition at about 10K.
We investigate properties of BaFe2As2 (122) single crystals upon gold doping, which is the transition metal with the highest atomic weight. The Au substitution into the FeAs-planes of 122 crystal structure (Au-122) is only possible up to a small amount of ~3%. We find that 5d is more effective in reducing magnetism in 122 than its counter 3d Cu, and this relates to superconductivity. We provide evidence of short-range magnetic fluctuations and local-lattice inhomogeneities that may prevent strong percolative superconductivity in Ba(Fe1-xAux)2As2.
We report on synthesis of single crystals of BaFe2Se3 and study of their crystal and magnetic structures by means of synchrotron single crystal X-ray and neutron powder diffraction. The crystal structure has orthorhombic symmetry and consists of double chains of FeSe4 edge connected tetrahedra intercalated by barium. Below 240 K long range block-spin checkerboard antiferromagnetic (AFM) order is developed. The magnetic structure is similar to one observed in A0.8Fe1.6Se2 (A=K, Rb or Cs) superconductors. The crystals exhibit a transition to the diamagnetic state with an onset transition tempera…
The evolution of pressure induced superconductivity in single crystal as well as polycrystalline samples of BaFe2As2 has been investigated through temperature dependent electrical resistivity studies in 0-7 GPa pressure range. While the superconducting transition remains incomplete in polycrystalline sample, a clear pressure induced superconductivity with zero resistivity at the expense of magnetic transition, associated with spin density wave (SDW), is observed in the single crystal sample. The superconducting transition temperature (TC) is seen to increase upto a moderate pressure of about ~…
Superconductivity was recently found in the simple tetragonal FeSe structure. Recent studies suggest that FeSe is unconventional, with the symmetry of the superconducting pairing state still under debate. To tackle these problems, clean single crystals and thin films are required. Here we report the fabrication of superconducting beta-phase FeSe1-x thin films on different substrates using a pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. Quite interestingly, the crystal orientation, and thus, superconductivity in these thin films is sensitive to the growth temperature. At 320C, films grow preferably …
We have synthesized the single-phase polycrystalline samples of Sn1-xAgxTe, Ag-doped topological crystalline insulator SnTe, with a range of x = 0-0.5 using a high-pressure synthesis method. The crystal structure of Sn1-xAgxTe at room temperature is a cubic NaCl-type structure, which does not vary upon Ag substitution. Bulk superconductivity with a transition temperature of 2.4 K was observed for x = 0.15-0.25, and the optimal Ag content was x = 0.2. The Sn1-xAgxTe superconducting phase will be useful for understanding the superconductivity nature and mechanisms of the carrier-doped SnTe syste…
We report crystal growth and below 2.5K superconductivity of Nb0.25Bi2Se3. These crystals are grown by self flux method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of as grown crystal flake shows (00l) plane (c-orientation) growth. The Rietveld refinement of crushed crystal powder XRD (PXRD) pattern confirms the phase purity of the studied sample having R-3m space group of rhombohedral crystalline structure. The Raman spectrum of the studied Nb0.25Bi2Se3 crystal distinctly shows three well defined vibrational modes in terms of A11g, Eg2, A21g at around 72, 129 and 173cm-1, which are slightly shifted …
