We extend the notion of Gibbsianness for mean-field systems to the set-up of general (possibly continuous) local state spaces. We investigate the Gibbs properties of systems arising from an initial mean-field Gibbs measure by application of given local transition kernels. This generalizes previous case-studies made for spins taking finitely many values to the first step in direction to a general theory, containing the following parts: (1) A formula for the limiting conditional probability distributions of the transformed system. It holds both in the Gibbs and non-Gibbs regime and invokes a minimization problem for a "constrained rate-function". (2) A criterion for Gibbsianness of the transformed system for initial Lipschitz-Hamiltonians involving concentration properties of the transition kernels. (3) A continuity estimate for the single-site conditional distributions of the transformed system. While (2) and (3) have provable lattice-counterparts, the characterization of (1) is stronger in mean-field. As applications we show short-time Gibbsianness of rotator mean-field models on the (q-1)-dimensional sphere under diffusive time-evolution and the preservation of Gibbsianness under local coarse-graining of the initial local spin space.
We continue our study of the scale-inhomogeneous Gaussian free field introduced in Arguin and Ouimet (2016). Firstly, we compute the limiting free energy on V_N and adapt a technique of Bovier and Kurkova (2004b) to determine the limiting two-overlap distribution. The adaptation was already successfully applied in the simpler case of Arguin and Zindy (2015), where the limiting free energy was computed for the field with two levels (in the center of V_N) and the limiting two-overlap distribution was determined in the homogeneous case. Our results agree with the analogous quantities for the Gene…
We present a general method to derive continuity estimates for conditional probabilities of general (possibly continuous) spin models sub jected to local transformations. Such systems arise in the study of a stochastic time-evolution of Gibbs measures or as noisy observations. We exhibit the minimal necessary structure for such double-layer systems. Assuming no a priori metric on the local state spaces, we define the posterior metric on the local image space. We show that it allows in a natural way to divide the local part of the continuity estimates from the spatial part (which is treated by …
We review some recent developments in the study of Gibbs and non-Gibbs properties of transformed n-vector lattice and mean-field models under various transformations. Also, some new results for the loss and recovery of the Gibbs property of planar rotor models during stochastic time evolution are presented.
In this note, we point out that infinite-volume Gibbs measures of spin glass models on the hypercube can be identified as random probability measures on the unit ball of a Hilbert space. This simple observation follows from a result of Dovbysh and Sudakov on weakly exchangeable random matrices. Limiting Gibbs measures can then be studied as single well-defined objects. This approach naturally extends the space of Random Overlap Structures as defined by Aizenman, Sims and Starr. We discuss the Ruelle Probability Cascades and the stochastic stability within this framework. As an application, we …
Lattice spin models in statistical physics are used to understand magnetism. Their Hamiltonians are a discrete form of a version of a Dirichlet energy, signifying a relationship to the Harmonic map heat flow equation. The Gibbs distribution, defined with this Hamiltonian, is used in the Metropolis-Hastings (M-H) algorithm to generate dynamics tending towards an equilibrium state. In the limiting situation when the inverse temperature is large, we establish the relationship between the discrete M-H dynamics and the continuous Harmonic map heat flow associated with the Hamiltonian. We show the c…
Many Gibbs measures with mean field interactions are known to be chaotic, in the sense that any collection of $k$ particles in the $n$-particle system are asymptotically independent, as $n\to\infty$ with $k$ fixed or perhaps $k=o(n)$. This paper quantifies this notion for a class of continuous Gibbs measures on Euclidean space with pairwise interactions, with main examples being systems governed by convex interactions and uniformly convex confinement potentials. The distance between the marginal law of $k$ particles and its limiting product measure is shown to be $O((k/n)^{c \wedge 2})$, with …
We consider the Curie-Weiss model at a given initial temperature in vanishing external field evolving under a Glauber spin-flip dynamics corresponding to a possibly different temperature. We study the limiting conditional probabilities and their continuity properties and discuss their set of points of discontinuity (bad points). We provide a complete analysis of the transition between Gibbsian and non-Gibbsian behavior as a function of time, extending earlier work for the case of independent spin-flip dynamics. For initial temperature bigger than one we prove that the time-evolved measure stay…
We study the limiting behavior of the two-dimensional singular stochastic stochastic cubic nonlinear complex Ginzburg-Landau with Gibbs measure initial data. We show that in the appropriate small viscosity and small noise regimes, the limiting dynamics is given by the deterministic cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation at Gibbs equilibrium. In order to obtain this convergence, our approach combines both heat and Schrödinger analysis, within the framework of the Fourier restriction norm method of Bourgain (1993).
We consider stochastic dynamics of lattice systems with finite local state space, possibly at low temperature, and possibly non-reversible. We assume the additional regularity properties on the dynamics: a) There is at least one stationary measure which is a Gibbs measure for an absolutely summable potential Phi. b) Zero loss of relative entropy density under dynamics implies the Gibbs property with the same Phi. We prove results on the attractor property of the set of Gibbs measures for Phi: 1. The set of weak limit points of any trajectory of translation-invariant measures contains at least …
We prove invariance of the Gibbs measure for the (gauge transformed) periodic quartic gKdV. The Gibbs measure is supported on H^s for s<1/2, and the quartic gKdV is analytically ill-posed in this range. In order to consider the flow in the support of the Gibbs measure, we combine a probabilistic argument and the second iteration and construct local-in-time solutions to the (gauge transformed) quartic gKdV almost surely in the support of the Gibbs measure. Then, we use Bourgain's idea to extend these local solutions to global solutions, and prove the invariance of the Gibbs measure under the fl…
We develop a space-time large-deviation point of view on Gibbs-non-Gibbs transitions in spin systems subject to a stochastic spin-flip dynamics. Using the general theory for large deviations of functionals of Markov processes outlined in Feng and Kurtz [11], we show that the trajectory under the spin-flip dynamics of the empirical measure of the spins in a large block in Z^d satisfies a large deviation principle in the limit as the block size tends to infinity. The associated rate function can be computed as the action functional of a Lagrangian that is the Legendre transform of a certain non-…
This paper derives explicit results for the infinite Gibbs partitions generated by the jumps of an $α-$stable subordinator, derived in Pitman \cite{Pit02, Pit06}. We first show that for general $α$ the conditional EPPF can be represented as ratios of Fox-$H$ functions, and in the case of rational $α,$ Meijer-G functions. Furthermore the results show that the resulting unconditional EPPF's, can be expressed in terms of H and G transforms indexed by a function h. Hence when h is itself a H or G function the EPPF is also an H or G function. An implication, in the case of rational $α,$ is that one…
A family of heterogeneous mean-field systems with jumps is analyzed. These systems are constructed as a Gibbs measure on block graphs. When the total number of particles goes to infinity, a law of large numbers is shown to hold in a multi-class context resulting in the weak convergence of the empirical vector towards the solution of a McKean-Vlasov system of equations. We then investigate the local stability of the limiting McKean-Vlasov system through the construction of a local Lyapunov function. We first compute the limit of adequately scaled relative entropy functions associated with the e…
We complete the investigation of the Gibbs properties of the fuzzy Potts model on the d-dimensional torus with Kac interaction which was started by Jahnel and one of the authors. As our main result of the present paper, we extend the previous sharpness result of mean-field bounds to cover all possible cases of fuzzy transformations, allowing also for the occurrence of Ising classes. The closing of this previously left open Ising-gap involves an analytical argument showing uniqueness of minimizing profiles for certain non-homogeneous conditional variational problems.
In the paper asymptotic properties of functionals of stationary Gibbs particle processes are derived. Two known techniques from the point process theory in the Euclidean space R^d are extended to the space of compact sets on R^d equipped by the Hausdorff metric. First, conditions for the existence of the stationary Gibbs point process with given conditional intensity have been simplified recently. Secondly, the Malliavin-Stein calculus was applied to the estimation of Wasserstein distance between the Gibbs input and standard Gaussian distribution. We transform these theories to the space of co…
We consider translation-invariant interacting particle systems on the lattice with finite local state space admitting at least one Gibbs measure as a time-stationary measure. The dynamics can be irreversible but should satisfy some mild non-degeneracy conditions. We prove that weak limit points of any trajectory of translation-invariant measures, satisfying a non-nullness condition, are Gibbs states for the same specification as the time-stationary measure. This is done under the additional assumption that zero entropy loss of the limiting measure w.r.t. the time-stationary measure implies tha…
We consider Gibbs distributions on finite random plane trees with bounded branching. We show that as the order of the tree grows to infinity, the distribution of any finite neighborhood of the root of the tree converges to a limit. We compute the limiting distribution explicitly and study its properties. We introduce an infinite random tree consistent with these limiting distributions and show that it satisfies a certain form of the Markov property. We also study the growth of this tree and prove several limit theorems including a diffusion approximation.
We consider the locally thinned Bernoulli field on $\mathbb Z^d$, which is the lattice version of the Type-I Matérn hardcore process in Euclidean space. It is given as the lattice field of occupation variables, obtained as image of an i.i.d. Bernoulli lattice field with occupation probability $p$, under the map which removes all particles with neighbors, while keeping the isolated particles. We prove that the thinned measure has a Gibbsian representation and provide control on its quasilocal dependence, both in the regime of small $p$, but also in the regime of large $p$, where the thinning tr…
We establish the general equivalence between rare event process for arbitrary continuous functions whose maximal values are achieved on non-trivial sets, and the entry times distribution for arbitrary measure zero sets. We then use it to show that the for differentiable maps on a compact Riemannian manifold that can be modeled by Young's towers, the rare event process and the limiting entry times distribution both converge to compound Poisson distributions. A similar result is also obtained on Gibbs-Markov systems, for both cylinders and open sets. We also give explicit expressions for the par…
We consider a class of Gibbs measures defined with respect to increments $\{ω(t)-ω(s)\}_{s<t}$ of $d$-dimensional Wiener measure, with the underlying Hamiltonian carrying interactions of the form $H(t-s,ω(t)-ω(s))$ that are invariant under uniform translations of paths. In such interactions we allow {\it{long-range}} dependence in the time variable (including power law decay up to $t\mapsto (1+t)^{-(2+\varepsilon)}$ for $\varepsilon>0$) and unbounded (singular) interactions (including singularities of the form $x\mapsto 1/|x|^p$ in $d\geq 3$ or $x\mapsto δ_0(x)$ in $d=1$) attached to the space…
Random Overlap Structures (ROSt's) are random elements on the space of probability measures on the unit ball of a Hilbert space, where two measures are identified if they differ by an isometry. In spin glasses, they arise as natural limits of Gibbs measures under the appropriate algebra of functions. We prove that the so called `cavity mapping' on the space of ROSt's is continuous, leading to a proof of the stochastic stability conjecture for the limiting Gibbs measures of a large class of spin glass models. Similar arguments yield the proofs of a number of other properties of ROSt's that may …
We study the large-$N$ limit of the Segal--Bargmann transform on $S^{N-1}(\sqrt N)$, the $(N-1)$-dimensional sphere of radius $\sqrt N$, as a unitary map from the space of square-integrable functions with respect to the normalized spherical measure onto the space of holomorphic square-integrable functions with respect to a certain measure on the quadric. In particular, we give an explicit formulation and describe the geometric models for the limit of the domain, the limit of the range, and the limit of the transform when $N$ tends to infinity. We show that the limiting transform is still a uni…
