We study the evolution of a weakly convex surface $Σ_0$ in $\R^3$ with flat sides by the Harmonic Mean Curvature flow. We establish the short time existence as well as the optimal regularity of the surface and we show that the boundaries of the flat sides evolve by the curve shortening flow. It follows from our results that a weakly convex surface with flat sides of class $C^{k,γ}$, for some $k\in \mathbb{N}$ and $0 < γ\leq 1$, remains in the same class under the flow. This distinguishes this flow from other, previously studied, degenerate parabolic equations, including the porous medium equation and the Gauss curvature flow with flat sides, where the regularity of the solution for $t >0$ does not depend on the regularity of the initial data.
In this paper, we consider the Dirichlet problem for a class of prescribed curvature equations. Both degenerate and non-degenerate cases are considered. The existence of the $C^{1,1}$ regular graphic hypersurfaces with prescribing a class of curvatures and constant boundary is proved for the degenerate case.
This work is devoted to the geometric-theoretic analysis of the nodal set of solutions to degenerate or singular equations involving a class of operators including $$ L_a = \mbox{div}(\abs{y}^a \nabla), $$ with $a\in(-1,1)$ and their perturbations. As they belong to the Muckenhoupt class $A_2$, these operators appear in the seminal works of Fabes, Kenig, Jerison and Serapioni \cite{fkj,fjk2,fks} and have recently attracted a lot of attention in the last decade due to their link to the localization of the fractional Laplacian via the extension in one more dimension \cite{CS2007}. Our goal in th…
For the $p$-harmonic function with strictly convex level sets, we find a test function which comes from the combination of the norm of gradient of the $p$-harmonic function and the smallest principal curvature of the level sets of $p$-harmonic function. We prove that this curvature function is convex with respect to the height of the $p$-harmonic function. This test function is an affine function of the height when the $p$-harmonic function is the $p$-Green function on the ball. For the minimal graph, we obtain a similar results.
We study viscosity solutions to degenerate and singular elliptic equations of $p$-Laplacian type on Riemannian manifolds. The Krylov-Safonov type Harnack inequality for the $p$-Laplacian operators with $1<p<\infty$ is established on the manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below based on ABP type estimates. We also prove the Harnack inequality for nonlinear $p$-Laplacian type operators assuming that a nonlinear perturbation of Ricci curvature is bounded below.
The regularity theory of the degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equation is studied. The equation is considered on a closed compact Kähler manifold $(M,g)$ with nonnegative orthogonal bisectional curvature of dimension $m$. Given a solution $ϕ$ of the degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equation $\det(g_{i \bar{j}} + ϕ_{i \bar{j}}) = f \det(g_{i \bar{j}})$, it is shown that the Laplacian of $ϕ$ can be controlled by a constant depending on $(M,g)$, $\sup f$, and $\inf_M Δf^{1/(m-1)}$.
In this paper we study the long time existence of the Ricci-harmonic flow in terms of scalar curvature and Weyl tensor which extends Cao's result \cite{Cao2011} in the Ricci flow. In dimension four, we also study the integral bound of the "Riemann curvature" for the Ricci-harmonic flow generalizing a recently result of Simon \cite{Simon2015}.
We address the problem of integrability of the sub-Riemannian mean curvature of an embedded hypersurface around isolated characteristic points. The main contribution of this note is the introduction of a concept of mildly degenerate characteristic point for a smooth surface of the Heisenberg group, in a neighborhood of which the sub-Riemannian mean curvature is integrable (with respect to the perimeter measure induced by the Euclidean structure). As a consequence we partially answer to a question posed by Danielli-Garofalo-Nhieu in [Danielli D., Garofalo N., Nhieu D.M., Proc. Amer. Math. Soc.,…
Recently, the authors of the current paper established in [9] the existence of a ground-state solution to the following bi-harmonic equation with the constant potential or Rabinowitz potential: \begin{equation} (-Δ)^{2}u+V(x)u=f(u)\ \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}^{4}, \end{equation} when the nonlinearity has the special form $f(t)=t(\exp(t^2)-1)$ and $V(x)\geq c>0$ is a constant or the Rabinowitz potential. One of the crucial elements used in [9] is the Fourier rearrangement argument. However, this argument is not applicable if $f(t)$ is not an odd function. Thus, it still remains open whether the abov…
We explore geometric aspects of bubble convergence for harmonic maps. More precisely, we show that the formation of bubbles is characterised by the local excess of curvature on the target manifold. We give a universal estimate for curvature concentration masses at each bubble point and show that there is no curvature loss in the necks. Our principal hypothesis is that the target manifold is Kaehler.
In this article, we will use the harmonic mean curvature flow to prove a new class of Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequalities for strictly convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space in terms of total curvature, which is the integral of Gaussian curvature on the hypersurface. We will also use the harmonic mean curvature flow to prove a new class of geometric inequalities for horospherically convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space. Using these new Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequalities and the inverse mean curvature flow, we obtain an Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality for strictly convex hypersurfaces in …
In this paper we generalize the monotonicity formulas of [C] for manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Monotone quantities play a key role in analysis and geometry; see, e.g., [A], [CM1] and [GL] for applications of monotonicity to uniqueness. Among the applications here is that level sets of Green's function on open manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature are asymptotically umbilic.
We study harmonic maps from a 3-manifold with boundary to $\mathbb{S}^1$ and prove a special case of dihedral rigidity of three dimensional cubes whose dihedral angles are $π/ 2$. Furthermore we give some applications to mapping torus hyperbolic 3-manifolds.
In this paper we study a neighborhood of generic singularities formed by mean curvature flow (MCF). We limit our consideration to the singularities modelled on $\mathbb{S}^3\times\mathbb{R}$ because, compared to the cases $\mathbb{S}^k\times \mathbb{R}^{l}$ with $l\geq 2$, the present case has the fewest possibilities to be considered. For various possibilities, we provide a detailed description for a small, but fixed, neighborhood of singularity, and prove that a small neighborhood of the singularity is mean convex, and the singularity is isolated. For the remaining possibilities, we conjectu…
We introduce and study generalized $1$-harmonic equations (1.1). Using some ideas and techniques in studying $1$-harmonic functions from [W1] (2007), and in studying nonhomogeneous $1$-harmonic functions on a cocompact set from [W2, (9.1)] (2008), we find an analytic quantity $w$ in the generalized $1$-harmonic equations (1.1) on a domain in a Riemannian $n$-manifold that affects the behavior of weak solutions of (1.1), and establish its link with the geometry of the domain. We obtain, as applications, some gradient bounds and nonexistence results for the inverse mean curvature flow, Liouville…
We study the behavior of second-order degenerate elliptic systems in divergence form with random coefficients which are stationary and ergodic. Assuming moment bounds like Chiarini and Deuschel [Arxiv preprint 1410.4483, 2014] on the coefficient field $a$ and its inverse, we prove an intrinsic large-scale $C^{1,α}$-regularity estimate for $a$-harmonic functions and obtain a first-order Liouville theorem for subquadratic $a$-harmonic functions.
If a real harmonic function inside the open unit disk $B(0,1) \subset \mathbb{R}^2$ has its level set $\left\{x: u(x) = u(0)\right\}$ diffeomorphic to an interval, then we prove the sharp bound $κ\leq 8$ on the curvature of the level set $\left\{x: u(x) = u(0)\right\}$ in the origin. The bound is sharp and we give the unique (up to symmetries) extremizer.
The Teichmüller harmonic map flow, introduced in [9], evolves both a map from a closed Riemann surface to an arbitrary compact Riemannian manifold, and a constant curvature metric on the domain, in order to reduce its harmonic map energy as quickly as possible. In this paper, we develop the geometric analysis of holomorphic quadratic differentials in order to explain what happens in the case that the domain metric of the flow degenerates at infinite time. We obtain a branched minimal immersion from the degenerate domain.
Let $(M,g)$ be a 3-dimensional Riemannian manifold. The goal of the paper it to show that if $P_{0}\in M$ is a non-degenerate critical point of the scalar curvature, then a neighborhood of $P_{0}$ is foliated by area-constrained Willmore spheres. Such a foliation is unique among foliations by area-constrained Willmore spheres having Willmore energy less than $32π$, moreover it is regular in the sense that a suitable rescaling smoothly converges to a round sphere in the Euclidean three-dimensional space. We also establish generic multiplicity of foliations and the first multiplicity result for …
In this paper, we prove the local gradient estimate for harmonic functions on complete, noncompact Finsler measure spaces under the condition that the weighted Ricci curvature has a lower bound. As applications, we obtain Liouville type theorem on Finsler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature.
In this paper, we study harmonic functions on metric measure spaces with Riemannian Ricci curvature bounded from below, which were introduced by Ambrosio-Gigli-Savaré. We prove a Cheng-Yau type local gradient estimate for harmonic functions on these spaces. Furthermore, we derive various optimal dimension estimates for spaces of polynomial growth harmonic functions on metric measure spaces with nonnegative Riemannian Ricci curvature.
We give a proof of the Donnelly-Fefferman growth bound of Laplace-Beltrami eigenfunctions which is probably the easiest and the most elementary one. Our proof also gives new quantitative geometric estimates in terms of curvature bounds which improve and simplify previous work by Garofalo and Lin. The proof is based on a convexity property of harmonic functions on curved manifolds, generalizing Agmon's Theorem on a convexity property of harmonic functions in R^n.
In this paper, we will show vanishing theorem of $p$ harmonic $1$ form on submanifold $M$ in $ \bar{M} $ whose BiRic curvature satisfying $ \overline{\mathrm{BiRic}}^a \geq Φ_a(H,S) $. As an corollary, we can get the corresponding theorem for $ p $ harmonic function and $ p $ harmonic map. We also investigate the finiteness problem of $p$ harmonic $1$ form on submanifold $M$ in $ \bar{M} $ whose BiRic curvature satisfying $ \overline{\mathrm{BiRic}}^a \geq -k^2 $.
Under the usual condition that the volume of a geodesic ball is close to the Euclidean one or the injectivity radii is bounded from below, we prove a lower bound of the $C^α W^{1, q}$ harmonic radius for manifolds with bounded Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature when the gradient of the potential is bounded. Under these conditions, the regularity that can be imposed on the metrics under harmonic coordinates is only $C^αW^{1,q}$, where $q>2n$ and $n$ is the dimension of the manifolds. This is almost 1 order lower than that in the classical $C^{1,α} W^{2, p}$ harmonic coordinates under bounded Ricci cur…
