In this paper we compute the partition function of 5D supersymmetric U(1) gauge theory with extra adjoint matter in general $Ω$-background. It is well known that such partition functions encode very rich topological information. We show in particular that unlike the case with no extra matter, the partition function with extra adjoint at some special values of the parameters directly reproduces the generating function for the Poincare polynomial of the moduli space of instantons. Comparing our results with those recently obtained by Iqbal et. al., who used the refined topological vertex method, we present our comments on apparent discrepancies.
We show that $QCD_2$ with adjoint fermions involves instantons due to nontrivial $π_1[SU(N)/Z_N]~=~Z_N$. At high temperatures, quasiclassical approximation works and the action and the form of effective (with account of quantum corrections) instanton solution can be evaluated. Instanton presents a localized configuration with the size $\propto g^{-1}$. At $N=2$, it involves exactly 2 zero fermion modes and gives rise to fermion condensate $<\barλ^a λ^a>_T$ which falls off $\propto \exp\{-π^{3/2} T/g\}$ at high $T$ but remains finite. At low temperatures, both instanton and bosonization argumen…
We perform a semi-classical study of chiral symmetry breaking and of the spectrum of the Dirac operator in QCD with adjoint fermions. For this purpose we calculate matrix elements of the adjoint Dirac operator between instanton zero modes and study their symmetry properties. We present simulations of the instanton ensemble for different numbers of Majorana fermions in the adjoint representation. These simulations provide evidence that instantons lead to gluino condensation in supersymmetric gluodynamics.
We discuss the instanton-dyon liquid model with $N_f$ Majorana quark flavors in the adjoint representation of color $SU_c(2)$ at finite temperature. We briefly recall the index theorem on $S^1\times R^3$ for twisted adjoint fermions in a BPS dyon background of arbitrary holonomy, and use the ADHM construction to explicit the adjoint anti-periodic zero modes. We use these results to derive the partition function of an interacting instanton-dyon ensemble with $N_f$ light and anti-periodic adjoint quarks. We develop the model in details by mapping the theory on a 3-dimensional quantum effective t…
We evaluate partition functions $Z_I$ in topologically nontrivial (instanton) gauge sectors in the bosonized version of the Schwinger model and in a gauged WZNW model corresponding to $QCD_2$ with adjoint fermions. We show that the bosonized model is equivalent to the fermion model only if a particular form of the WZNW action with gauge-invariant integrand is chosen. For the exact correspondence, it is necessary to integrate over the ways the gauge group $SU(N)/Z_N$ is embedded into the full $O(N^2 - 1)$ group for the bosonized matter field. For even $N$, one should also take into account the …
The adjoint 2-dimensional $QCD$ with the gauge group $SU(N)/Z_N$ admits topologically nontrivial gauge field configurations associated with nontrivial $π_1[SU(N)/Z_N] = Z_N$. The topological sectors are labelled by an integer $k=0,\ldots, N-1$. However, in contrast to $QED_2$ and $QCD_4$, this topology is not associated with an integral invariant like the magnetic flux or Pontryagin index. These instantons may admit fermion zero modes, but there is always an equal number of left-handed and right-handed modes, so that the Atiyah-Singer theorem, which determines in other cases the number of the …
$QCD_2$ with fermions in the adjoint representation is invariant under $SU(N)/Z_N$ and thereby is endowed with a non-trivial vacuum structure (k-sectors). The static potential between adjoint charges, in the limit of infinite mass, can be therefore obtained by computing Wilson loops in the pure Yang-Mills theory with the same non-trivial structure. When the (Euclidean) space-time is compactified on a sphere $S^2$, Wilson loops can be exactly expressed in terms of an infinite series of topological excitations (instantons). The presence of k-sectors modifies the energy spectrum of the theory and…
In this paper we compute gaugino and scalar condensates in N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories with and without massive adjoint matter, using localization formulae over the multi--instanton moduli space. Furthermore we compute the chiral ring relations among the correlators of the $N=1^*$ theory and check this result against the multi-instanton computation finding agreement.
The Gauge/Bethe correspondence relates Omega-deformed N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories to some quantum integrable models, in simple cases the integrable models can be treated as solvable quantum mechanics models. For SU(2) gauge theory with an adjoint matter, or with 4 fundamental matters, the potential of corresponding quantum model is the elliptic function. If the mass of matter takes special value then the potential is an elliptic solution of KdV hierarchy. We show that the deformed prepotential of gauge theory can be obtained from the average densities of conserved charges of the classica…
Starting from our proposed model of the Yang-Mills vacuum based on fractional instantons, we review the intellectual itinerary which has guided part of our scientific activity up to our recent work on adjoint zero-modes for calorons.
Linear recursion relations for the instanton corrections to the effective prepotential are derived for N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories with one hypermultiplet in the adjoint representation of SU(N) using the Calogero-Moser parameterization of the Seiberg-Witten spectral curves. S-duality properties of the Calogero-Moser parameterization and conjectures on the Seiberg-Witten spectral curves generalized to arbitrary simply laced classical gauge groups are also discussed.
We study Higgs field configurations of dyonic instantons in spontaneously broken (4+1)-dimensional Yang-Mills theory. The adjoint scalar field solutions to the covariant Laplace equation in the ADHM instanton background are constructed in general noncanonical basis, and they are used to study explicitly the Higgs field configurations of dyonic instantons when the gauge fields are taken by Jackiw-Nohl-Rebbi instanton solutions. For these solutions corresponding to small instanton number we then consider in some detail the zero locus of the Higgs field, which describes the cross section of super…
We study the duality of $\mathcal{N}=1$ gauge theories in the presence of a massless adjoint field and massive quarks by calculating the superpotential using the Dighkgraaf-Vafa matrix model and by comparing with the previous result coming from Kutasov duality. The Kutasov duality method gives a result in which one instanton term is absent. The matrix model method confirms it and also show that the absence of the one instanton term is related to the masslessness of the adjoint field.
We give a detailed microscopic derivation of gauge and stringy instanton generated superpotentials for gauge theories living on D3-branes at Z_3-orientifold singularities. Gauge instantons are generated by D(-1)-branes and lead to Affleck, Dine and Seiberg (ADS) like superpotentials in the effective N=1 gauge theories with three generations of bifundamental and anti/symmetric matter. Stringy instanton effects are generated by Euclidean ED3-branes wrapping four-cycles on T^6/\Z_3. They give rise to Majorana masses in one case and non-renormalizable superpotentials for the other cases. Finally w…
We employ the ADHM method to derive the moduli space of two instantons in U(1) gauge theory on a noncommutative space. We show by an explicit hyperKähler quotient construction that the relative metric of the moduli space of two instantons on $R^4$ is the Eguchi-Hanson metric and find a unique threshold bound state. For two instantons on $R^3\times S^1$, otherwise known as calorons, we give the asymptotic metric and conjecture a completion. We further discuss the relationship of caloron moduli spaces of A, D and E groups to the Coulomb branches of three dimensional gauge theory. In particular, …
We discuss a class of Little String Theories (LSTs) whose low energy descriptions are supersymmetric gauge theories on the $Ω$-background with gauge group $U(N)$ and matter in the adjoint representation. We show that the instanton partition function of these theories can be written in terms of Kronecker-Eisenstein series, which in a particular limit of the deformation parameters of the $Ω$-background organise themselves into Greens functions of free scalar fields on a torus. We provide a concrete identification between (differences of) such propagators and Nekrasov subfunctions. The latter are…
We derive modular anomaly equations from the Seiberg-Witten-Donagi curves for softly broken N=4 SU(n) gauge theories. From these equations we can derive recursion relations for the pre-potential in powers of m^2, where m is the mass of the adjoint hypermultiplet. Given the perturbative contribution of the pre-potential and the presence of ``gaps'' we can easily generate the m^2 expansion in terms of polynomials of Eisenstein series, at least for relatively low rank groups. This enables us to determine efficiently the instanton expansion up to fairly high order for these gauge groups, e. g. eig…
The Seiberg-Witten solution of N=2 supersymmetric SU(2) gauge theory may be viewed as a prediction for the infinite family of constants F_n measuring the n-instanton contribution to the prepotential F. Here we examine the instanton physics directly, in particular the contribution of the general self-dual solution of topological charge n constructed by Atiyah, Drinfeld, Hitchin and Manin (ADHM). In both the bosonic and supersymmetric cases, we determine both the large- and short-distance behavior of all the fields in this background. This allows us to construct the exact classical interaction b…
We study instanton effects in theories with compact extra dimensions. We perform an instanton calculation in a 5d theory on a circle of radius R, with gauge, scalar, and fermion fields in the bulk of the extra dimension. We show that, depending on the matter content, instantons of size rho << R can dominate the amplitude. Using deconstruction as an ultraviolet definition of the theory allows us to show, in a controlled approximation, that for a small number of bulk fermions, the amplitude for small size instantons exponentially grows as e^{O(1)R/rho}.
We study instanton partition functions for N=2 superconformal Sp(1) and SO(4) gauge theories. We find that they agree with the corresponding U(2) instanton partitions functions only after a non-trivial mapping of the microscopic gauge couplings, since the instanton counting involves different renormalization schemes. Geometrically, this mapping relates the Gaiotto curves of the different realizations as double coverings. We then formulate an AGT-type correspondence between Sp(1)/SO(4) instanton partition functions and chiral blocks with an underlying W(2,2)-algebra symmetry. This form of the c…
String instanton effects in Higgs physics are discussed through a type IIA model based on T^{6}/(Z^{2}\times Z^{'2}) orentifold compactifaction. By inclusion of rigid E2-branes, the model exhibits a MSSM-like spectrum, as well as extra mu and quartic Higgs couplings. These extra couplings are induced via E2 instantons non-perturbatively. Setting the string scale at 10^{18} GeV, one gets interesting TeV Higgs physics. In particlular, the tree-level Higgs mass can be uplifted substantially.
We further discuss the N=2 superinstantons in SU(2) gauge theory, obtained from the general self-dual solutions of topological charge n constructed by Atiyah, Drinfeld, Hitchin and Manin (ADHM). We realize the N=2 supersymmetry algebra as actions on the superinstanton moduli. This allows us to recast in concise superfield notation our previously obtained expression for the exact classical interaction between n ADHM superinstantons mediated by the adjoint Higgs bosons, and moreover, to incorporate N_F flavors of hypermultiplets. We perform explicit 1- and 2-instanton checks of the Seiberg-Witte…
We argue that quantum electrodynamics combined with quantum gravity results in a new source of CP violation, anomalous non-conservation of chiral charge and quantisation of electric charge. Further phenomenological and cosmological implications of this observation are briefly discussed within the standard model of particle physics and cosmology
We compute the prepotential of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions obtained by toroidal compactifications of gauge theories from 6 dimensions, as a function of Kahler and complex moduli of T^2. We use three different methods to obtain this: matrix models, geometric engineering and instanton calculus. Matrix model approach involves summing up planar diagrams of an associated gauge theory on T^2. Geometric engineering involves considering F-theory on elliptic threefolds, and using topological vertex to sum up worldsheet instantons. Instanton calculus involves computation of elli…
We consider an eight-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills theory to explore whether Yang-Mills instantons formed in extra dimensions can induce the dynamical instability of our four-dimensional spacetime. We show that the Yang-Mills instantons in extra dimensions can trigger the expansion of our universe in four-dimensional spacetime as well as the dynamical compactification of extra dimensions. We also discuss a possibility to realize a reheating mechanism via the quantum back-reaction from the contracting tiny internal space with a smeared instanton.
We consider 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole (TPM) as a topological soliton in the 5-dimensional (5D) theory of gauge-Higgs unification. This scenario provides a very natural framework to incorporate the TPM, since the adjoint scalar is builtin as the extra-space component of higher dimensional gauge field. In the process of the analysis, we realize that the condition to be satisfied by the Bogomolny-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) state of TPM, the BPS monopole, is equivalent to an (anti-)self-dual condition for the higher dimensional gauge field. This observation, in turn, suggests the presence of instan…
We consider non-perturbative effects in theories with extra dimensions and the deconstructed versions of these theories. We establish the rules for instanton calculations in 5D theories on the circle, and use them for an explicit one-instanton calculation in a supersymmetric gauge theory. The results are then compared to the known exact Seiberg-Witten type solution for this theory, confirming the validity both of the exact results and of the rules for instanton calculus for extra dimensions introduced here. Next we consider the non-perturbative results from the perspective of deconstructed ext…
Field theory with instantons can be partially regularized by adding degrees of freedom at some scale. These extra degrees of freedom lead to the appearence of the new topological defects. These defects which we call freckles have some characteristic size depending on the scale at which the extra degrees of freedom revive. The examples of two dimensional sigma model, four dimensional gauge theory are studied. The compactification of the four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory down to two dimensions is also considered and the new phenomena are found.
The $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills matrix model admits self-dual and anti-self-dual instantons. When coupled to $N_f$ flavors of massless quarks, the Euclidean Dirac equation in an instanton background has $n_+$ positive and $n_-$ negative chirality zero modes. We show that the index $(n_+ - n_-)$ is equal to a suitably defined instanton charge. Further, we show that the path integral measure is not invariant under a chiral rotation, and relate the non-invariance of the measure to the index of the Dirac operator. Axial symmetry is broken anomalously, with the residual symmetry being a finite group. For $N…
We consider the effective topological field theory on Euclidean D-strings wrapping on a 2-cycle in the internal space. We evaluate the vev of a suitable operator corresponding to the chemical potential of vortices bounded to the D-strings, and find that it reduces to the partition function of generalized two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory as a result of localization. We argue that the partition function gives a grand canonical ensemble of multi-instanton corrections for four-dimensional N=2 gauge theory in a suitable large N limit. We find two-dimensional gauge theories that provide the instant…
Linear recursion relations for the instanton corrections to the effective prepotential are derived for two cases of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories; the first case with an arbitrary number of hypermultiplets in the fundamental representation of an arbitrary classical gauge group, and the second case with one hypermultiplet in the adjoint representation of SU(N). The construction for both cases proceed from the Seiberg-Witten solutions and the renormalization group type equations for the prepotential. Successive iterations of these recursion relations allow us to simply obtain instanton corre…
A broad class of higher dimensional instanton solutions are found for a theory which contains gravity, a scalar field and antisymmetric tensor fields of arbitrary rank. The metric used, a warp product of an arbitrary number of any compact Einstein manifolds, includes many of great interest in particle physics and cosmology. For example 4D FRW universes with additional dimensions compactified on a Calabi-Yau three fold, a torus, a compact hyperbolic manifold or a sphere are all included. It is shown that the solution of this form which dominates the Hartle Hawking path integral is always a high…
The one-instanton contributions to various correlation functions of supercurrents in four-dimensional N=4 supersymmetric SU(2) Yang-Mills theory are evaluated to the lowest order in perturbation theory.Expressions of the same form are obtained from the leading effects of a single D-instanton extracted from the IIB superstring effective action around the AdS5*S5 background. This is in line with the suggested AdS/Yang-Mills correspondence. The relation between Yang--Mills instantons and D-instantons is further confirmed by the explicit form of the classical D-instanton solution in the AdS5*S5 ba…
We analyze the vector multiplet prepotential of d=4, N=2 type IIA compactifications. We find that the worldsheet instanton corrections have a natural interpretation as one-loop corrections in five dimensions, with the extra dimension being compactified on a circle of radius $g_{s}\ell_{s}$. We argue that the relation between spacetime and worldsheet instantons is natural from this point of view. We also discuss the map between the type IIA worldsheet instantons and the spacetime instantons in the heterotic dual.
We describe a new technique for calculating instanton effects in supersymmetric gauge theories applicable on the Higgs or Coulomb branches. In these situations the instantons are constrained and a potential is generated on the instanton moduli space. Due to existence of a nilpotent fermionic symmetry the resulting integral over the instanton moduli space localizes on the critical points of the potential. Using this technology we calculate the one- and two-instanton contributions to the prepotential of SU(N) gauge theory with N=2 supersymmetry and show how the localization approach yields the p…
We consider instanton effects in a non-supersymmetric gauge theory obtained by marginal deformations of the N=4 SYM. This gauge theory is expected to be dual to type IIB string theory on the AdS_5 times deformed-S^5 background. From an instanton calculation in the deformed gauge theory we extract the prediction for the dilaton-axion field τin dual string theory. In the limit of small deformations where the supergravity regime is valid, our instanton result reproduces the expression for τof the supergravity solution found by Frolov.
In this thesis we discuss non-perturbative phenomena emerging in gauge and in string/supergravity theories. We compute the partition function of 5D minimal supersymmetric U(1) gauge theory with extra adjoint matter in general Omega-background. These N=2^* theories are massive deformations of N=4 SYM and can be thought of as a minimal supersymmetric five dimensional theory compactified on a circle. Such partition functions encode very rich topological information. We show that this partition function at some special values of the parameters directly reproduces the generating function for the Po…
Certain static soliton configurations of gauge fields in 4+1 dimensions correspond to the instanton in 4-Euclidean dimensions ``turned on its side,'' becoming a monopole in 4+1. The periodic instanton solution can be used with the method of images to construct solutions satisfying D-brane boundary conditions. The $θ$-term on the brane becomes a topological current source, yielding an emission amplitude for monopoles into the bulk. Instantons have a novel reinterpretation in terms of monopole exchange between branes.
There are several advantages of introducing adjoint superfields at intermediate energies around $M=10^{13}$ GeV. Such as (i) gauge couplings still unify (ii) neutrino masses and mixings are produced (iii) primordial lepton asymmetry can be produced. We point out that if adjoint scalars have bulk excitations along with gauge bosons whereas fermions and the doublet scalar live on boundary then N=2 supersymmetric beta functions $\tilde{b_i}$ vanish. Thus even if extra dimensions open up at an intermediate scale $μ_0$ and all N=2 Yang-Mills fields as well as N=2 matter fields in the adjoint repres…
Using D3/D(-1) brane set-up in type IIB string theory we introduce gauge-stringy instantons in N=2 U(N) supersymmetry theories with one matter multiplet in symmetric representation. In addition to the gauge and stringy moduli there exist extra zero modes that we refer to as "gauge-stringy" moduli. We show that the measure of the moduli space in this model becomes dimensionless for arbitary N when the gauge instanton charge k_g is equal to the stringy instanton charge k_s. This property of gauge-stringy instantons leads to having equal contributions from all instanton charges k_s=k_g=k in the e…
We consider Euclidean D4 and D6-branes filling the whole ${\bf R}^4$ and ${\bf R}^6$ space, respectively. In both cases, with a constant background B-field turned on for D4-branes, we propose actions which are the same as the DBI actions up to some constant or total derivative terms. These extra terms allow us to write the action as a square of nonlinear instanton equations. As such, the actions can easily be supersymmetrized using the methods of topological field theory.
By considering 5--dimensional cosmological models with a bulk filled with a pressureless scalar field; equivalently dust matter, and a negative cosmological constant, we have found a regular instantonic solution which is free from any singularity at the origin of the extra--coordinate. This instanton describes 5--dimensional asymptotically anti de Sitter wormhole, when the bulk has a topology R times S^4. Compactified brane-world instantons which are built up from such instantonic solution describe either a single brane or a string of branes. Their analytical continuation to the pseudo--Rieman…
We study the dynamics of four dimensional gauge theories with adjoint fermions for all gauge groups, both in perturbation theory and non-perturbatively, by using circle compactification with periodic boundary conditions for the fermions. There are new gauge phenomena. We show that, to all orders in perturbation theory, many gauge groups are Higgsed by the gauge holonomy around the circle to a product of both abelian and nonabelian gauge group factors. Non-perturbatively there are monopole-instantons with fermion zero modes and two types of monopole-anti-monopole molecules, called bions. One ty…
We study the instanton effects of the ABJM partition function using the Fermi gas formalism. We compute the exact values of the partition function at the Chern-Simons levels k=1,2,3,4,6 up to N=44,20,18,16,14 respectively, and extract non-perturbative corrections from these exact results. Fitting the resulting non-perturbative corrections by their expected forms from the Fermi gas, we determine unknown parameters in them. After separating the oscillating behavior of the grand potential, which originates in the periodicity of the grand partition function, and the worldsheet instanton contributi…
We study the effects produced by D-brane instantons on the holomorphic quantities of a D-brane gauge theory at an orbifold singularity. These effects are not limited to reproducing the well known contributions of the gauge theory instantons but also generate extra terms in the superpotential or the prepotential. On these brane instantons there are some neutral fermionic zero-modes in addition to the ones expected from broken supertranslations. They are crucial in correctly reproducing effects which are dual to gauge theory instantons, but they may make some other interesting contributions vani…
Based on the study of the simple Abelian Higgs model in $1+1$ dimensions we will present a new method to identify and localize extended instantons. The idea is to measure the topological charge on regions somewhat larger than the extended instantons so as to average out the ultraviolet fluctuations but without losing the detailed topological information when going to the full space. The instanton size and probability density can be directly extracted from this analysis. Local dislocations, which can be avoided for fine enough lattices, can be reinterpreted as modified boundary conditions produ…
There has been substantial progress in understanding a class of SU(N) gauge theories that are confining at high temperatures. This class includes theories with center-symmetric Polyakov loop deformations or with periodic adjoint fermions. The crucial role of monopoles in lattice gauge theories of this type can be understood analytically. The basic mechanisms occur in the two-dimensional O(3) spin model, deformed by appropriate mass term to give an XY model. Vortices of the XY model are constituents of O(3) instantons just as SU(N) magnetic monopoles are constituents of KvBLL instantons. Simila…
We study the quantum effects on the Coulomb branch of N=2 SU(2) supersymmetric Yang-Mills with fundamental matters compactified on R^3 x S^1, and extract the explicit perturbative and leading non-perturbative corrections to the moduli space metric predicted from the recent work of Gaiotto, Moore and Neitzke on wall-crossing [1]. We verify the predicted metric by computing the leading weak coupling instanton contribution to the four fermion correlation using standard field theory techniques, and demonstrate perfect agreement. We also demonstrate how previously known three dimensional quantities…
We study SYM gauge theories living on ALE spaces. Using localization formulae we compute the prepotential (and its gravitational corrections) for SU(N) supersymmetric ${\cal N}=2, 2^*$ gauge theories on ALE spaces of the $A_n$ type. Furthermore we derive the Poincaré polynomial describing the homologies of the corresponding moduli spaces of self-dual gauge connections. From these results we extract the ${\cal N}=4$ partition function which is a modular form in agreement with the expectations of $SL(2,\Z)$ duality.
D-instanton world-volume theory has open string zero modes describing collective coordinates of the instanton. The usual perturbative amplitudes in the D-instanton background suffer from infra-red divergences due to the presence of these zero modes, and the usual approach of analytic continuation in momenta does not work since all open string states on a D-instanton carry strictly zero momentum. String field theory is well-suited for tackling these issues. However we find a new subtlety due to the existence of additional zero modes in the ghost sector. This causes a breakdown of the Siegel gau…
We study SU(N) supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with massless adjoint matter defined on $M^3\otimes S^1$. The SU(N) gauge symmetry is broken maximally to $U(1)^{N-1}$, independent of the number of flavor and the boundary conditions of the fields associated with the Scherk-Schwarz mechanism of supersymmetry breaking. The mass of the Higgs scalar is generated through quantum corrections in the extra dimensions. The quantum correction can become manifest by a finite Higgs boson mass at low energies even in the limit of small extra dimensions thanks to the supersymmetry breaking parameter of the S…
We perform a lattice study of the topological susceptibility and instanton size distribution of the $\su{2}$ gauge theory with two adjoint Dirac fermions (also known as Minimal Walking Technicolor), which is known to be in the conformal window. In the theory deformed with a small mass term, by drawing a comparison with the pure gauge theory, we find that topological observables are decoupled from the fermion dynamics. This provides further evidence for the infrared conformality of the theory. A study of the instanton size distribution shows that this quantity can be used to detect the onset of…
We identify instantons representing vacuum decay in a 6-dimensional toy model for string theory flux compactifications, with the two extra dimensions compactified on a sphere. We evaluate the instanton action for tunneling between different flux vacua, as well as for the decompactification decay channel. The bubbles resulting from flux tunneling have an unusual structure. They are bounded by two-dimensional branes, which are localized in the extra dimensions. This has important implications for bubble collisions.
We consider the $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills theory, whose topological sectors are restricted to the instanton number with integer multiples of $p$. We can formulate such a quantum field theory maintaining locality and unitarity, and the model contains both $2π$-periodic scalar and $3$-form gauge fields. This can be interpreted as coupling a topological theory to Yang-Mills theory, so the local dynamics becomes identical with that of pure Yang-Mills theory. The theory has not only $\mathbb{Z}_N$ $1$-form symmetry but also $\mathbb{Z}_p$ $3$-form symmetry, and we study the global nature of this theory fr…
We consider chiral condensates in SU(2) gauge theory with broken N=2 supersymmetry. The matter sector contains an adjoint multiplet and one fundamental flavor. Matter and gaugino condensates are determined by integrating out the adjoint field. The only nonperturbative input is the Affleck-Dine-Seiberg (ADS) superpotential generated by one instanton plus the Konishi anomaly. These results are consistent with those obtained by the `integrating in' procedure, including a reproduction of the Seiberg-Witten curve from the ADS superpotential. We then calculate monopole, dyon, and charge condensates …
