We consider the problem of computation of the correlation functions for the z-measures with the deformation (Jack) parameters 2 or 1/2. Such measures on partitions are originated from the representation theory of the infinite symmetric group, and in many ways are similar to the ensembles of Random Matrix Theory of $β=4$ or $β=1$ symmetry types. For a certain class of such measures we show that correlation functions can be represented as Pfaffians including $2\times 2$ matrix valued kernels, and compute these kernels explicitly. We also give contour integral representations for correlation kernels of closely connected measures on partitions.
We study the asymptotics of certain measures on partitions (the so-called z-measures and their relatives) in two different regimes: near the diagonal of the corresponding Young diagram and in the intermediate zone between the diagonal and the edge of the Young diagram. We prove that in both cases the limit correlation functions have determinantal form with a correlation kernel which depends on two real parameters. In the first case the correlation kernel is discrete, and it has a simple expression in terms of the gamma functions. In the second case the correlation kernel is continuous and tran…
We consider a point process on one-dimensional lattice originated from the harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group, and defined by the z-measures with the deformation (Jack) parameter 2. We derive an exact Pfaffian formula for the correlation function of this process. Namely, we prove that the correlation function is given as a Pfaffian with a matrix kernel. The kernel is given in terms of the Gauss hypergeometric functions, and can be considered as a matrix analogue of the Hypergeometric kernel introduced by A. Borodin and G. Olshanski. Our result holds for all values of admissible …
We study random skew 3D partitions weighted by $q^{\textup{vol}}$ and, specifically, the $q\to 1$ asymptotics of local correlations near various points of the limit shape. We obtain sine-kernel asymptotics for correlations in the bulk of the disordered region, Airy kernel asymptotics near a general point of the frozen boundary, and a Pearcey kernel asymptotics near a cusp of the frozen boundary.
Let $H_h = h^2 L +V$ where $L$ is a self-adjoint Laplace type operator acting on sections of a vector bundle over a compact Riemannian manifold and $V$ is a symmetric endomorphism field. We derive an asymptotic expansion for the heat kernel of $H_h$ as $h \to 0$. As a consequence we get an asymptotic expansion for the quantum partition function and we see that it is asymptotic to the classical partition function. Moreover, we show how to bound the quantum partition function for positive $h$ by the classical partition function.
We consider a generalization of the Schur process in which a partition evolves from the empty partition into an arbitrary fixed final partition. We obtain a double integral representation of the correlation kernel. For a special final partition with only one row, the edge scaling limit is also discussed by the use of the saddle point analysis. If we appropriately scale the length of the row, the limiting correlation kernel changes from the extended Airy kernel.
In this paper, we study asymptotics of the thermal partition function of a model of quantum mechanical fermions with matrix-like index structure and quartic interactions. This partition function is given explicitly by a Wronskian of the Stieltjes-Wigert polynomials. Our asymptotic results involve the theta function and its derivatives. We also develop a new asymptotic method for general $q$-polynomials.
We present a solution to a problem suggested by Philippe Biane: We prove that a certain Plancherel-type probability distribution on partitions converges, as partitions get large, to a new determinantal random point process on the set {0,1,2,...} of nonnegative integers. This can be viewed as an edge limit ransition. The limit process is determined by a correlation kernel on {0,1,2,...} which is expressed through the Hermite polynomials, we call it the discrete Hermite kernel. The proof is based on a simple argument which derives convergence of correlation kernels from convergence of unbounded …
In the present article the reduced integral representation of partitions in terms of harmonic products has been derived first by using hypergeometry and the new concept of fractional sum and secondly by studying the Fourier series of the kernel function appearing in the integral representation. Using the method of induction, a generalization of the theory has also been obtained.
We introduce and study a family of Markov processes on partitions. The processes preserve the so-called z-measures on partitions previously studied in connection with harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group. We show that the dynamical correlation functions of these processes have determinantal structure and we explicitly compute their correlation kernels. We also compute the scaling limits of the kernels in two different regimes. The limit kernels describe the asymptotic behavior of large rows and columns of the corresponding random Young diagrams, and the behavior of the Young diagr…
Earlier in the study of the combinatorial properties of the heat kernel of Laplace operator with covariant derivative diagram technique and matrix formalism were constructed. In particular, this formalism allows you to control the coefficients of the heat kernel, which is useful for calculations. In this paper, a simple case is considered with abelian connection in two-dimensional space. This model allows us to give a mathematical description of operators and find relation between operators and generating functions of numbers.
We give expansions of reproducing kernels of the Christoffel-Darboux type in terms of Schur polynomials. For this, we use evaluations of averages of characteristic polynomials and Schur polynomials in random matrix ensembles. We explicitly compute new Schur averages, such as the Schur average in a $q$-Laguerre ensemble, and the ensuing expansions of random matrix kernels. In addition to classical and $q$-deformed cases on the real line, we use extensions of Dotsenko-Fateev integrals to obtain expressions for kernels on the complex plane. Moreover, a known interplay between Wronskians of Laguer…
We derive exact matrix integral representations for different sums over partitions. The characteristic feature of all obtained matrix models is the presence of logarithmic (or, vice versa, exponential) terms in the potential. Our derivation is based on the application of the higher Casimir operators. The Toda lattice integrability of the basic sums over partitions can be easily derived from the matrix model representation.
The k-point correlation functions of the Gaussian Random Matrix Ensembles are certain determinants of functions which depend on only two arguments. They are referred to as kernels, since they are the building blocks of all correlations. We show that the kernels are obtained, for arbitrary level number, directly from supermatrix models for one-point functions. More precisely, the generating functions of the one-point functions are equivalent to the kernels. This is surprising, because it implies that already the one-point generating function holds essential information about the k-point correla…
We compute all massive partition functions or characteristic polynomials and their complex eigenvalue correlation functions for non-Hermitean extensions of the symplectic and chiral symplectic ensemble of random matrices. Our results are valid for general weight functions without degeneracies of the mass parameters. The expressions we derive are given in terms of the Pfaffian of skew orthogonal polynomials in the complex plane and their kernel. They are much simpler than the corresponding expressions for symplectic matrix models with real eigenvalues, and we explicitly show how to recover thes…
The paper deals with a 3-parameter family of probability measures on the set of partitions, called the z-measures. The z-measures first emerged in connection with the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group. They are a special and distinguished case of Okounkov's Schur measures. It is known that any Schur measure determines a determinantal point process on the 1-dimensional lattice. In the particular case of z-measures, the correlation kernel of this process, called the discrete hypergeometric kernel, has especially nice properties. The aim of the paper is to derive the di…
We construct a matrix model equivalent (exactly, not asymptotically), to the random plane partition model, with almost arbitrary boundary conditions. Equivalently, it is also a random matrix model for a TASEP-like process with arbitrary boundary conditions. Using the known solution of matrix models, this method allows to find the large size asymptotic expansion of plane partitions, to ALL orders. It also allows to describe several universal regimes.
We study asymptotics of the partition function $Z_N$ of a Laguerre-type random matrix model when the matrix order $N$ tends to infinity. By using the Deift-Zhou steepest descent method for Riemann-Hilbert problems, we obtain an asymptotic expansion of $\log Z_N$ in powers of $N^{-2}$.
We derive the limiting matrix kernels for the the Gaussian Orthogonal and Symplectic ensembles scaled at the edge, with proofs of convergence in the operator norms that assure convergence of the determinants.
We introduce a generalization of the extended Airy kernel with two sets of real parameters. We show that this kernel arises in the edge scaling limit of correlation kernels of determinantal processes related to a directed percolation model and to an ensemble of random matrices.
I develop a transfer matrix algorithm for computing the exact partition function of a square lattice polymer with nearest-neighbor interaction, by extending a previous algorithm for computing the total number of self-avoiding walks. The computation time scales as ~1.6^N with the chain length N, in contrast to the explicit enumeration where the scaling is ~ 2.7^N. The exact partition function can be obtained faster with the transfer matrix method than with the explicit enumeration, for N>25. The new results for up to N=42 are presented.
We study the properties of matrix models with soft confining potentials. Their precise mathematical characterization is that their weight function is not determined by its moments. We mainly rely on simple considerations based on orthogonal polynomials and the moment problem. In addition, some of these models are equivalent, by a simple mapping, to matrix models that appear in Chern-Simons theory. The models can be solved with q deformed orthogonal polynomials (Stieltjes-Wigert polynomials), and the deformation parameter turns out to be the usual $q$ parameter in Chern-Simons theory. In this w…
We continue to investigate the physical interpretation of the Riemann zeta function as a FZZT brane partition function associated with a matrix/gravity correspondence begun in arxiv:0708.0645. We derive the master matrix of the $(2,1)$ minimal and $(3,1)$ minimal matrix model. We use it's characteristic polynomial to understand why the zeros of the FZZT partition function, which is the Airy function, lie on the real axis. We also introduce an iterative procedure that can describe the Riemann $Ξ$ function as a deformed minimal model whose deformation parameters are related to a Konsevich integr…
In this paper we study two multicritical correlation kernels and prove that they converge to the Pearcey kernel in a certain double scaling limit. The first kernel appears in a model of non-intersecting Brownian motions at a tacnode. The second arises as a triple scaling limit of the eigenvalue correlation kernel in the Hermitian two-matrix model with quartic/quadratic potentials. The two kernels are different but can be expressed in terms of the same tacnode Riemann-Hilbert problem. The proof is based on a steepest descent analysis of this Riemann-Hilbert problem. A special feature in the ana…
For one-matrix models with polynomial potentials, the explicit relationship between the partition function and the isomonodromic tau function for the 2x2 polynomial differential systems satisfied by the associated orthogonal polynomials is derived.
We study a generating function flowing from the one enumerating a set of partitions to the one enumerating the corresponding set of noncrossing partitions; numerical simulations indicate that its limit in the Adjacency random matrix model on bipartite Erdös-Renyi graphs gives a good approximation of the spectral distribution for large average degrees. This model and a Wishart-type random matrix model are described using congruence classes on $k$-divisible partitions. We compute, in the $d\to \infty$ limit with $\frac{Z_a}{d}$ fixed, the spectral distribution of an Adjacency and of a Laplacian …
We investigate the physical interpretation of the Riemann zeta function as a FZZT brane partition function associated with a matrix/gravity correspondence. The Hilbert-Polya operator in this interpretation is the master matrix of the large N matrix model. Using a related function $Ξ(z)$ we develop an analogy between this function and the Airy function Ai(z) of the Gaussian matrix model. The analogy gives an intuitive physical reason why the zeros lie on a critical line. Using a Fourier transform of the $Ξ(z)$ function we identify a Kontsevich integrand. Generalizing this integrand to $n \times…
After reviewing the Hermitian one matrix model, we will give a brief introduction to the Hermitian two matrix model and present a summary of some recent results on the asymptotic behavior of the two matrix model with a quartic potential. In particular, we will discuss a limiting kernel in the quartic/quadratic case that is constructed out of a $4\times 4$ Riemann-Hilbert problem related to Painlevé II equation. Also an open problem will be presented.
Periodic Schur process is a generalization of the Schur process introduced in math.CO/0107056. We compute its correlation functions and their bulk scaling limits, and discuss several applications including asymptotic analysis of uniform measures on cylindric partitions, time-dependent extensions of the discrete sine kernel, and bulk limit behavior of certain measures on partitions introduced in hep-th/0306238 in connection with supersymmetric gauge theories.
We use the steepest descents method to study the integral kernel of a family of normal random matrix ensembles with eigenvalue distribution P_{N}(z_{1},...,z_{N}) = Z_{N}^{-1} e^{-NΣ_{i=1}^{N}V_α(z_{i})} Π_{1\leqi<j\leqN}|z_{i}-z_{j}|^{2} where V_α(z)=|z|^α, z \in C and α\in ]0,\infty[. Asymptotic analysis with error estimates are obtained. A corollary of this expansion is a scaling limit for the n-point function in terms of the integral kernel for the classical Segal--Bargmann space.
The paper studies scaling limits of random skew plane partitions confined to a box when the inner shapes converge uniformly to a piecewise linear function V of arbitrary slopes in [-1,1]. It is shown that the correlation kernels in the bulk are given by the incomplete Beta kernel, as expected. As a consequence it is established that the local correlation functions in the scaling limit do not depend on the particular sequence of discrete inner shapes that converge to V. A detailed analysis of the correlation kernels at the top of the limit shape and of the frozen boundary is given. It is shown …
We construct Pfaffian L-ensembles related to the z-measures on partitions and to the Plancherel measures on partitions with the Jack parameters 1/2 or 2. The results imply that these measures on partitions lead to Pfaffian point processes, and the correlation kernels of these processes can be expressed in terms of the corresponding L-matrices. We give explit formulae for these L-matrices.
We establish the universal edge scaling limit of random partitions with the infinite-parameter distribution called the Schur measure. We explore the asymptotic behavior of the wave function, which is a building block of the corresponding kernel, based on the Schr{ö}dinger-type differential equation. We show that the wave function is in general asymptotic to the Airy function and its higher-order analogs in the edge scaling limit. We construct the corresponding higher-order Airy kernel and the Tracy-Widom distribution from the wave function in the scalins limit, and discuss its implication to t…
We study a family of continuous time Markov jump processes on strict partitions (partitions with distinct parts) preserving the distributions introduced by Borodin (1997) in connection with projective representations of the infinite symmetric group. The one-dimensional distributions of the processes (i.e., the Borodin's measures) have determinantal structure. We express the dynamical correlation functions of the processes in terms of certain Pfaffians and give explicit formulas for both the static and dynamical correlation kernels using the Gauss hypergeometric function. Moreover, we are able …
We study probabilistic and combinatorial aspects of natural volume-and-trace weighted plane partitions and their continuous analogues. We prove asymptotic limit laws for the largest parts of these ensembles in terms of new and known hard- and soft-edge distributions of random matrix theory. As a corollary we obtain an asymptotic transition between Gumbel and Tracy--Widom GUE fluctuations for the largest part of such plane partitions, with the continuous Bessel kernel providing the interpolation. We interpret our results in terms of two natural models of directed last passage percolation (LPP):…
We use $p$-component fermions $(p=2,3,...)$ to present $(2p-2)N$-fold integrals as a fermionic expectation value. This yields fermionic representation for various $(2p-2)$-matrix models. Links with the $p$-component KP hierarchy and also with the $p$-component TL hierarchy are discussed. We show that the set of all (but two) flows of $p$-component TL changes standard matrix models to new ones.
We show that the expression for the supersymmetric partition function of the chiral Unitary Ensemble conjectured recently by Splittorff and Verbaarschot [Phys. Rev. Lett. v. 90, 041601 (2003)] follows from the general expression derived recently by Fyodorov and Strahov [ J. Phys. A: Math.Gen.} {\bf 36}(2003) 3203] .
We obtain a family of matrix integrals which decompose to a product of Gamma-functions (they have some relations with S.G.Gindikin 'Beta', but generally speaking essentially differ from it). We obtain Plancherel formula for Berezin representations for all series of classical groups (for large values of parameters of representations). The Berezin representations are deformations of L^2 on Riemann noncompact symmetric spaces G/K defined by Berezin kernels, i.e powers of |det(1-zu^*)| (in matrix ball models). These representations also can be obtained by restrictions of holomorphic representation…
