We consider a generalization of the Schur process in which a partition evolves from the empty partition into an arbitrary fixed final partition. We obtain a double integral representation of the correlation kernel. For a special final partition with only one row, the edge scaling limit is also discussed by the use of the saddle point analysis. If we appropriately scale the length of the row, the limiting correlation kernel changes from the extended Airy kernel.
Periodic Schur process is a generalization of the Schur process introduced in math.CO/0107056. We compute its correlation functions and their bulk scaling limits, and discuss several applications including asymptotic analysis of uniform measures on cylindric partitions, time-dependent extensions of the discrete sine kernel, and bulk limit behavior of certain measures on partitions introduced in hep-th/0306238 in connection with supersymmetric gauge theories.
In this paper we define the shifted Schur process as a measure on sequences of strict partitions. This process is a generalization of the shifted Schur measure introduced in [TW] and [Mat] and is a shifted version of the Schur process introduced in [OR]. We prove that the shifted Schur process defines a Pfaffian point process. We further apply this fact to compute the bulk scaling limit of the correlation functions for a measure on strict plane partitions which is an analog of the uniform measure on ordinary plane partitions. As a byproduct, we obtain a shifted analog of the famous MacMahon's …
An attempt is described to extend the notion of Schur functions from Young diagrams to plane partitions. The suggestion is to use the recursion in the partition size, which is easily generalized and deformed. This opens a possibility to obtain Macdonald polynomials by a change of recursion coefficients and taking appropriate limit from three to two dimensions -- though details still remain to be worked out. Another perspective is opened by the observation of a rich non-abelian structure, extending that of commuting cut-and-join operators, for which the discovered 3-Schurs are the common eigenf…
A new representation of the 2N fold integrals appearing in various two-matrix models that admit reductions to integrals over their eigenvalues is given in terms of vacuum state expectation values of operator products formed from two-component free fermions. This is used to derive the perturbation series for these integrals under deformations induced by exponential weight factors in the measure, expressed as double and quadruple Schur function expansions, generalizing results obtained earlier for certain two-matrix models. Links with the coupled two-component KP hierarchy and the two-component …
We construct discrete time Markov chains that preserve the class of Schur processes on partitions and signatures. One application is a simple exact sampling algorithm for q^{volume}-distributed skew plane partitions with an arbitrary back wall. Another application is a construction of Markov chains on infinite Gelfand-Tsetlin schemes that represent deterministic flows on the space of extreme characters of the infinite-dimensional unitary group.
We study the asymptotics of Schur polynomials with partitions $λ$ which are almost staircase; more precisely, partitions that differ from $((m-1)(N-1),(m-1)(N-2),\ldots,(m-1),0)$ by at most one component at the beginning as $N\rightarrow \infty$, for a positive integer $m\ge 1$ independent of $N$. By applying either determinant formulas or integral representations for Schur functions, we show that $\frac{1}{N}\log \frac{s_λ(u_1,\ldots,u_k, x_{k+1},\ldots,x_N)}{s_λ(x_1,\ldots,x_N)}$ converges to a sum of $k$ single-variable holomorphic functions, each of which depends on the variable $u_i$ for …
We review and present new studies on the relation between the partition functions of integrable lattice models and symmetric polynomials, and its combinatorial representation theory based on the correspondence, including our work. In particular, we examine the correspondence between the wavefunctions of the XXZ type, Felderhof type and the boson type integrable models and symmetric polynomials such as the Schur, Grothendieck and symplectic Schur functions. We also give a brief report of our work on generalizing the correspondence between the Felderhof models and factorial Schur and symplectic …
We consider Schur function expansion for the partition function of the model of normal matrices. We show that this expansion coincides with Takasaki expansion \cite{Tinit} for tau functions of Toda lattice hierarchy. We show that the partition function of the model of normal matrices is, at the same time, a partition function of certain discrete models, which can be solved by the method of orthogonal polynomials. We obtain discrete versions of various known matrix models: models of non-negative matrices, unitary matrices, normal matrices.
We define a class of $Y(sl_{(m|n)})$ Yangian invariant Haldane-Shastry (HS) like spin chains, by assuming that their partition functions can be written in a particular form in terms of the super Schur polynomials. Using some properties of the super Schur polynomials, we show that the partition functions of this class of spin chains are equivalent to the partition functions of a class of one-dimensional vertex models with appropriately defined energy functions. We also establish a boson-fermion duality relation for the partition functions of this class of supersymmetric HS like spin chains by u…
We conjecture an evaluation of three-partition cyclic Hodge integrals in terms of loop Schur functions. Our formula implies the orbifold Gromov-Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for toric Calabi-Yau threefolds with transverse type A singularities. We prove the formula in the case where one of the partitions is empty, and thus establish the orbifold Gromov- Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for local toric surfaces with transverse type A singularities.
We investigate the elliptic integrable model introduced by Deguchi and Martin, which is an elliptic extension of the Perk-Schultz model. We introduce and study a class of partition functions of the elliptic model by using the Izergin-Korepin analysis. We show that the partition functions are expressed as a product of elliptic factors and elliptic Schur-type symmetric functions. This result resembles the recent works by number theorists in which the correspondence between the partition functions of trigonometric models and the product of the deformed Vandermonde determinant and Schur functions …
A generalization of Selberg's beta integral involving Schur polynomials associated with partitions with entries not greater than 2 is explicitly computed. The complex version of this integral is given after proving a general statement concerning the complex extensions of Selberg-Schur integrals. All these results have interesting applications in both mathematics and physics, particularly in conformal field theory, since the conformal blocks for the $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten model can be obtained by analytical continuation of these integrals.
We derive an explicit simple formula for expectations of all Schur functions in the real Ginibre ensemble. It is a positive integer for all entries of the partition even and zero otherwise. The result can be used to determine the average of any analytic series of elementary symmetric functions by Schur function expansion.
Generalized Kontsevich Matrix Model (GKMM) with a certain given potential is the partition function of $r$-spin intersection numbers. We represent this GKMM in terms of fermions and expand it in terms of the Schur polynomials by boson-fermion correspondence, and link it with a Hurwitz partition function and a Hodge partition by operators in a $\widehat{GL}(\infty)$ group. Then, from a $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint of the partition function of $r$-spin intersection numbers, we get a $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint for the Hodge partition function. The $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint completely determines the S…
We find that superintegrability (character expansion) property persists in the exotic sector of the monomial non-Gaussian matrix model, with potential $\Tr X^r$, in pure phase, where the naive partition function $\langle 1 \rangle$ vanishes. The role of the (anomaly-corrected) partition function is played by $\left\langleχ_ρ\right\rangle$ -- the Schur average of the suitably chosen \textit{square} partiton $ρ$; such partitions are well-known to correspond to singular vectors of the Virasoro algebra. Further, non-zero are only Schur averages $\left\langle χ_μ\right\rangle$ for such $μ$ that hav…
We introduce generalizations of type $C$ and $B$ ice models which were recently introduced by Ivanov and Brubaker-Bump-Chinta-Gunnells, and study in detail the partition functions of the models by using the quantum inverse scattering method. We compute the explicit forms of the wavefunctions and their duals by using the Izergin-Korepin technique, which can be applied to both models. For type $C$ ice, we show the wavefunctions are expressed using generalizations of the symplectic Schur functions. This gives a generalization of the correspondence by Ivanov. For type $B$ ice, we prove that the ex…
We demonstrate in some detail how Macdonald polynomials emerge from the recently introduced 3-Schur functions when the plane-partition vector time-variables are projected onto the ordinary scalar times under non-vanishing angles, which depend on $q$ and $t$. We also explain how the cut-and-join operators smoothly interpolate between different cases. Most of consideration is restricted to level two.
We investigate the free boundary Schur process, a variant of the Schur process introduced by Okounkov and Reshetikhin, where we allow the first and the last partitions to be arbitrary (instead of empty in the original setting). The pfaffian Schur process, previously studied by several authors, is recovered when just one of the boundary partitions is left free. We compute the correlation functions of the process in all generality via the free fermion formalism, which we extend with the thorough treatment of "free boundary states". For the case of one free boundary, our approach yields a new pro…
We study several quiver Chern-Simons-matter theories on the three-sphere, combining the matrix model formulation with a systematic use of Mordell's integral, computing partition functions and checking dualities. We also consider Wilson loops in ABJ(M) theories, distinguishing between typical (long) and atypical (short) representations and focusing on the former. Using the Berele-Regev factorization of supersymmetric Schur polynomials, we express the expectation value of the Wilson loops in terms of sums of observables of two factorized copies of $U(N)$ pure Chern-Simons theory on the sphere. T…
We consider a random process with discrete time formed by singular values of products of truncations of Haar distributed unitary matrices. We show that this process can be understood as a scaling limit of the Schur process, which gives determinantal formulas for (dynamical) correlation functions and a contour integral representation for the correlation kernel. The relation with the Schur processes implies that the continuous limit of marginals for q-distributed plane partitions coincides with the joint law of singular values for products of truncations of Haar-distributed random unitary matric…
Schur process is a time-dependent analog of the Schur measure on partitions studied in math.RT/9907127. Our first result is that the correlation functions of the Schur process are determinants with a kernel that has a nice contour integral representation in terms of the parameters of the process. This general result is then applied to a particular specialization of the Schur process, namely to random 3-dimensional Young diagrams. The local geometry of a large random 3-dimensional diagram is described in terms of a determinantal point process on a 2-dimensional lattice with the incomplete beta …
The aim of this note is to prove a law of large numbers for local patterns in discrete point processes. We investigate two different situations: a class of point processes on the one dimensional lattice including certain Schur measures, and a model of random plane partitions, introduced by Okounkov and Reshetikhin. The results state in both cases that the linear statistic of a function, weighted by the appearance of a fixed pattern in the random configuration and conveniently normalized, converges to the deterministic integral of that function weighted by the expectation with respect to the li…
A set of functions is defined which is indexed by a positive integer $n$ and partitions of integers. The case $n=1$ reproduces the standard Schur polynomials. These functions are seen to arise naturally as a determinant of an action on the frame bundle of an infinite grassmannian. This fact is well known in the case of the Schur polynomials ($n=1$) and has been used to decompose the $τ$-functions of the KP hierarchy as a sum. In the same way, the new functions introduced here ($n>1$) are used to expand quotients of $τ$-functions as a sum with Plucker coordinates as coefficients.
Spin Hurwitz numbers are related to characters of the Sergeev group, which are the expansion coefficients of the Q Schur functions, depending on odd times and on a subset of all Young diagrams. These characters involve two dual subsets: the odd partitions (OP) and the strict partitions (SP). The Q Schur functions Q_R with R\in SP are common eigenfunctions of cut-and-join operators W_Δwith Δ\in OP. The eigenvalues of these operators are the generalized Sergeev characters, their algebra is isomorphic to the algebra of Q Schur functions. Similarly to the case of the ordinary Hurwitz numbers, the …
We introduce a useful and rather simple class of BKP tau functions which which we shall call "easy tau functions". We consider two versions of BKP hierarchy, one we will call "small BKP hierarchy" (sBKP) related to $O(\infty)$ introduced in Date et al and "large BKP hierarchy" (lBKP) related to $O(2\infty +1)$ introduced in Kac and van de Leur (which is closely related to the large $O(2\infty)$ DKP hierarchy (lDKP) introduced in Jimbo and Miwa). Actually "easy tau functions" of the sBKP hierarchy were already considered in Harnad et al, here we are more interested in the lBKP case and also the…
We revisit the periodic Schur process introduced by Borodin in 2007. Our contribution is threefold. First, we provide a new simpler derivation of its correlation functions via the free fermion formalism. In particular, we shall see that the process becomes determinantal by passing to the grand canonical ensemble, which gives a physical explanation to Borodin's "shift-mixing" trick. Second, we consider the edge scaling limit in the simplest nontrivial case, corresponding to a deformation of the poissonized Plancherel measure on partitions. We show that the edge behavior is described, in a certa…
It is known that some matrix integrals over U(n) satisfy an sl(2,R)-algebra of Virasoro constraints. Acting with these Virasoro generators on 2-dimensional Schur function expansions leads to difference relations on the coefficients of this expansions. These difference relations, set equal to zero, are precisely the backward and forward equations for non-intersecting random walks. The transition probabilities for these random walks appear as the coefficients of an expansion of U(n)-matrix integrals (of the type above), by inserting in the integral the product of two Schur polynomials associated…
Factorial Schur functions are generalizations of Schur functions that have, in addition to the usual variables, a second family of "shift" parameters. We show that a factorial Schur function times a deformation of the Weyl denominator may be expressed as the partition function of a particular statistical-mechanical system (six vertex model). The proof is based on the Yang-Baxter equation. There is a deformation parameter $t$ which may be specialized in different ways. If $t=-1$, then we recover the expression of the factorial Schur function as a ratio of alternating polynomials. If $t=0$, we r…
The paper deals with a 3-parameter family of probability measures on the set of partitions, called the z-measures. The z-measures first emerged in connection with the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group. They are a special and distinguished case of Okounkov's Schur measures. It is known that any Schur measure determines a determinantal point process on the 1-dimensional lattice. In the particular case of z-measures, the correlation kernel of this process, called the discrete hypergeometric kernel, has especially nice properties. The aim of the paper is to derive the di…
Specializations of Schur functions are exploited to define and evaluate the Schur functions s_λ[αX] and plethysms s_λ[αs_ν(X))] for any α- integer, real or complex. Plethysms are then used to define pairs of mutually inverse infinite series of Schur functions, M_πand L_π, specified by arbitrary partitions π. These are used in turn to define and provide generating functions for formal characters, s_λ^{(π)}, of certain groups H_π, thereby extending known results for orthogonal and symplectic group characters. Each of these formal characters is then given a vertex operator realization, first in t…
