We present a 13C-NMR study of the magnetic field driven transition to complete polarization of the S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain system copper pyrazine dinitrate Cu(C_4H_4N_2)(NO_3)_2 (CuPzN). The static local magnetization as well as the low-frequency spin dynamics, probed via the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1, were explored from the low to the high field limit and at temperatures from the quantum regime (k_B T << J) up to the classical regime (k_B T >> J). The experimental data show very good agreement with quantum Monte Carlo calculations over the complete range of parameters investigated. Close to the critical field, as derived from static experiments, a pronounced maximum in 1/T_1 is found which we interpret as the finite-temperature manifestation of a diverging density of zero-energy magnetic excitations at the field-driven quantum critical point.
A comprehensive comparison between the magnetic field- and temperature-dependent low frequency spin dynamics in the antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain (AFHC) system copper pyrazine dinitrate, probed via the 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation rate 1/T1, and the field theoretical approach in the Luttinger liquid (LL) regime has been performed. We have found a very good agreement between the experiment and theory in the investigated temperature and field range. Our results demonstrate how strongly the quantum critical point affects the spin dynamics of Heisenberg spin chain …
We report $^{153}$Eu and $^{69,71}$Ga NMR under a zero magnetic field on the antiferromagnetic state of EuGa$_{4}$ with $T_{\rm{N}}\approx 16$ K. We have successfully observed a $^{153}$Eu zero-field NMR signal with well-resolved nuclear quadrupole splitting in the antiferromagnetic state of EuGa$_{4}$. $^{69,71}$Ga zero-field NMR spectra were also observed below $T_{\rm{N}}$. The internal field and nuclear quadrupole frequency are estimated from a simulation of the spectra by the exact diagonalization of the nuclear spin Hamiltonian matrix. The asymmetrically split zero-field NMR spectra were…
We report $^{153}$Eu, $^{75}$As and $^{59}$Co nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) results on EuCo$_2$As$_2$ single crystal. Observations of $^{153}$Eu and $^{75}$As NMR spectra in zero magnetic field at 4.3 K below an antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering temperature $T_{\rm N}$ = 45 K and its external magnetic field dependence clearly evidence an incommensurate helical AFM structure in EuCo$_2$As$_2$. Furthermore, based on $^{59}$Co NMR data in both the paramagnetic and the incommensurate AFM states, we have determined the model-independent value of the AFM propagation vector ${\bf k}$ = (0, 0, 0.73 …
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements of the 29Si spin-lattice relaxation time T1 were used to probe the spin-1/2 random Heisenberg chain compound BaCu2(Si(1-x)Gex)2O7. Remarkable differences between the pure (x = 0) and the fully random (x = 0.5) case are observed, indicating that randomness generates a distribution of local magnetic relaxations. This distribution, which is reflected in a stretched exponential NMR relaxation, exhibits a progressive broadening with decreasing temperature, caused by a growing inequivalence of magnetic sites. Compelling independent evidence for the influ…
We report La-139 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) data in La4Ni3O8 which reveals the presence of antiferromagnetic order below T_N ~ 105 K. This compound contains two-dimensional layers of NiO2 that are isostructural to the copper oxide planes of the high temperature superconductors. This compound is remarkable because the average Ni valence of 1.33+ for formally 2Ni1+ + Ni2+ indicates a 3d9/3d8 electronic configuration. Nickel oxides with Ni1+ valence are rare and unstable, yet may provide new routes to high temperature superconductivity. La4Ni3O8, with antiferromagnetic order of S=1/2 Ni1+ s…
We present the results of a ^{1}H NMR study of the single-component molecular conductor, [Au(tmdt)_{2}]. A steep increase in the NMR line width and a peak formation of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate, 1/T_{1}, were observed at around 110 K. This behavior provides clear and microscopic evidences for a magnetic phase transition at considerably high temperature among organic conductors. The observed variation in 1/T_{1} with respect to temperature indicates the highly correlated nature of the metallic phase.
The ground state of $λ$-(BEDT-TTF)$_2$GaCl$_4$, which has the same structure as the organic superconductor $λ$-(BETS)$_2$GaCl$_4$, was investigated by magnetic susceptibility and $^{13}$C NMR measurements. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility revealed an antiferromagnetic (AF) correlation with $J/k_{\rm B} \simeq$ 98 K. NMR spectrum splitting and the divergence of $1/T_1$ were observed at approximately 13 K, which is associated with the AF transition. We found that the AF structure is commensurate according to discrete NMR peak splitting, suggesting that the ground state o…
We present an extensive NMR study of the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg ladder Cu2(C5H12N2)2Cl4 in a magnetic field range 4.5 - 16.7 T. By measuring the proton NMR relaxation rate 1/T_1 and varying the magnetic field around the critical field H_c1 = Delta / gμ_B = 7.5 T, we have studied the transition from a gapped spin liquid ground state to a gapless magnetic regime which can be described as a Luttinger liquid. We identify an intermediate regime T > |H-H_c1|, where the spin dynamics is (possibly) only controlled by the T=0 critical point H_c1.
We consider the isotropic $S=1$ Heisenberg chain with a finite Haldane gap $Δ$ and use state-of-the-art numerical techniques to investigate its dynamical properties at finite temperature, focusing on the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ measured in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments for instance. In particular, we analyze the contributions from modes with momenta close to $q\approx 0$ and $q\approx π$ as a function of temperature. At high-temperature, we observe spin diffusion with a non-trivial exponent. At low-temperature, we argue that a simple activated behavior $1/T_…
Local-susceptibility measurements via the NMR shifts of $^{31}$P and $^{51}$V nuclei in the high-pressure phase of (VO)$_{2}$P$_{2}$O$_{7}$ confirmed the existence of a unique alternating antiferromagnetic chain with a zero-field spin gap of 34 K. The $^{31}$P nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate scales with the uniform spin susceptibility below about 15 K which shows that the temperature dependence of both the static and dynamical spin susceptibilities becomes identical at temperatures not far below the spin-gap energy.
The magnetically ordered phase of body-centered tetragonal UAu$_2$Si$_2$ was explored through $^{29}$Si-NMR experiments. The field-swept NMR spectra show asymmetric peak splitting below magnetic phase transition temperature, $T_{\rm m}$ = 20 K. This splitting is well explained by the occurrence of a magnetic order with propagation vector of $q$ = (2/3, 0, 0) and magnetic moments pointing parallel to the tetragonal [001] axis, offering evidence for uncompensated "up-up-down"-type antiferromagnetic ordering with a spontaneous [001] magnetization component. A symmetry analysis of the hyperfine-co…
We present a comprehensive review of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies performed on three nanoscale molecular magnets with different configurations of geometrically frustrated antiferromagnetic (AFM) triangles, new spin frustration systems with different novel structures: (1) the isolated single AFM triangle K$_6$[V$_{15}$As$_6$O$_{42}$(H$_2$O)]$\cdot$8H$_2$O (in short V15), (2) the spin ball [Mo$_{72}$Fe$_{30}$O$_{252}$(Mo$_2$O$_7$(H$_2$O))$_2$ (Mo$_2$O$_8$H$_2$(H$_2$O))(CH$_3$COO)$_{12}$(H$_2$O)$_{91}$]$\cdot$150H$_2$O (in short Fe30 spin ball), and (3) the twisted triangular spin tub…
The magnetic state of the single-component molecular compound, [Cu(tmdt)$_{2}$], is investigated by means of $^{1}$H-NMR. An abrupt spectral broadening below 13 K and a sharp peak in nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate, $T_{1}^{-1}$, at 13 K are observed as clear manifestations of a second-order antiferromagnetic transition, which is consistent with the previously reported magnetic susceptibility and EPR measurement. The ordered moment is estimated at $0.22-0.45$ $μ_{\rm B}$/molecule. The temperature-dependence of $T_{1}^{-1}$ above the transition temperature indicates one-dimensional spin dy…
We report $^{133}$Cs nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on the 2D frustrated Heisenberg antiferromagnet Cs$_2$CuCl$_4$ down to 2 K and up to 15 T. We show that $^{133}$Cs NMR is a good probe of the magnetic degrees of freedom in this material. Cu spin degrees of freedom are sensed through a strong anisotropic hyperfine coupling. The spin excitation gap opens above the critical saturation field. The gap value was determined from the activation energy of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate in a magnetic field applied parallel to the Cu chains (b axis). The values of the g-factor …
Recently Ding et al. [Phys. Rev. B 95, 184404 (2017)] reported that their nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) study on EuCo$_2$As$_2$ successfully characterized the antiferromagnetic (AFM) propagation vector of the incommensurate helix AFM state, showing that NMR is a unique tool for determination of the spin structures in incommensurate helical AFMs. Motivated by this work, we have carried out $^{153}$Eu, $^{31}$P and $^{59}$Co NMR measurements on the helical antiferromagnet EuCo$_2$P$_2$ with an AFM ordering temperature $T_{\rm N}$ = 66.5 K. An incommensurate helical AFM structure was clearly c…
We used 17O NMR to probe the uniform (wavevector q=0) electron spin excitations up to 800 K in Sr2CuO3 and separate the q=0 from the q=\pmπ/a staggered components. Our results support the logarithmic decrease of the uniform spin susceptibility below T ~ 0.015J, where J=2200 K. From measurement of the dynamical spin susceptibility for q=0 by the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_{1}, we demonstrate that the q=0 mode of spin transport is ballistic at the T=0 limit, but has a diffusion-like contribution at finite temperatures even for T << J.
The proton hyperfine shift K and NMR relaxation rate $1/T_1$ have been measured as a function of temperature in the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic ladder Cu2(C5H12N2)2Cl4. The presence of a spin gap $Δ\simeq J_\perp-J_\parallel$ in this strongly coupled ladder ($J_\parallel < J_\perp$) is supported by the K and $1/T_1$ results. By comparing $1/T_1$ at two different proton sites, we infer the evolution of the spectral functions $S_z(q,ω_n)$ and $S_\perp(q,ω_n)$. When the gap is significantly reduced by the magnetic field, two different channels of nuclear relaxation, specific to gapped anti…
We report on our 51V-NMR study of static and dynamical magnetic properties in the quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnet BaCo2V2O8. Although the NMR spectrum shows well-defined antiferromagnetic (AF) order in the Néel ground state, the AF characteristic from the NMR spectrum is incomplete between 3.5 K and TN= 5.4 K, which could be affected by quantum spin fluctuations. The AF NMR spectrum indicates two V sites experiencing different magnetic field magnitudes, HA1=2.1 kOe and HA2=3.8 kOe. These internal fields could be explained by accounting for the classical and the pseudo-dipolar fields from…
We consider the low-temperature behavior of NMR relaxation rates $T_1$ and $T_{2G}$ in the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic chain. We find that $T_1 \propto const$ and $T_{2G} \propto \sqrt{T}$, with logarithmic corrections. We determine both constants and logarithmic terms by matching perturbative RG with exact results, so that the final expressions for the relaxation rates do not contain any free parameters. Our theoretical results are in excellent agreement with NMR experiments in Sr$_2$CuO$_3$.
The response of an open spin chain with isotropic antiferromagnetic interactions to a uniform magnetic field is studied by classical Monte Carlo simulations. It is observed how the induced on-site magnetization is non uniform, due to the occurrence of edge staggered terms which decay exponentially over a distance equal to the zero field correlation length of the infinite chain. The total magnetic moment associated to each staggered term is found to be about half of the original single-spin magnitude and to decrease as the inverse of temperature (i.e. to behave as a Curie-like moment). The nume…
The magnetic structure and metal-insulator transition in antiferromagnetic (AFM) BaMn2As2 and Ba1-xKxMn2As2 single crystals have been investigated by 55Mn and 75As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements. In the parent AFM insulator BaMn2As2 with a Neel temperature TN = 625 K, we observed a 55Mn zero-field NMR (ZFNMR) spectrum and confirmed the G-type AFM structure from the field dependence of the 55Mn spectra and 75As-NMR spectra below TN. In hole-doped crystals with x > 0.01, similar 55Mn ZFNMR spectra were observed and the AFM state was revealed to be robust up to x = 0.4 with the ord…
Magnetic properties of a quasi one-dimensional magnet CuV_2O_6 have been studied by means of susceptibility measurement, NMR and powder neutron diffraction. Cu^{2+} spins (S=1/2) order antiferromagnetically below 22.6 K, and the saturation moment is about 0.70 μ_{B} at 0 K. The magnetic structure determined in the present study indicates that in CuV_2O_6 one-dimensional antiferromagnetic spin chains are along [110], suggesting a dominant antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between the next-nearest-neighbor spins rather than the nearest-neighbor ones.
$^{51}$V NMR studies on CaV2O4 single crystals and $^{17}$O NMR studies on $^{17}$O-enriched powder samples are reported. The temperature dependences of the $^{17}$O NMR line width and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate give strong evidence for a long-range antiferromagnetic transition at Tn = 78 K in the powder. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show that Tn = 69 K in the crystals. A zero-field $^{51}$V NMR signal was observed at low temperatures (f $\approx$ 237 MHz at 4.2 K) in the crystals. The field swept spectra with the field in different directions suggest the presence of two anti…
We report 7Li NMR studies of V-substitution effects on spinel oxide superconductor LiTi2O4 (Tc = 13.4 K). In LiTi2-xVxO4 (x = 0-0.4), the V substitution for the Ti site suppressed the relative volume fraction of superconductivity faster than Tc. From the observation of fairly homogeneous enhancement in a 7Li nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate, we conclude that the V substitution changes electron correlation effects through electron carrier doping from quarter electron filling 3d0.5 to 3d1.5 and then the antiferromagnetic correlation emerges.
Magnetic properties in the quasi-one-dimensional organic salt (TMTTF)2SbF6 are investigated by 13C NMR under pressures. Antiferromagnetic phase transition at ambient pressure (AFI) is confirmed. Charge-ordering is suppressed by pressure and is not observed under 8 kbar. For 5 < P < 20 kbar, a sharp spectrum and the rapid decrease of the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 were observed below about 4 K, attributed to a spin-gap transition. Above 20 kbar, extremely broadened spectrum and critical increase of 1/T1 were observed. This indicates that the system enters into another antiferromagnetic p…
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of 31P and 51V nuclei has been measured in a spin-1/2 alternating-chain compound (VO)_2P_2O_7. By analyzing the temperature variation of the 31P NMR spectra, we have found that (VO)_2P_2O_7 has two independent spin components with different spin-gap energies. The spin gaps are determined from the temperature dependence of the shifts at 31P and 51V sites to be 35 K and 68 K, which are in excellent agreement with those observed in the recent inelastic neutron scattering experiments [A.W. Garrett et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 745 (1997)]. This suggests that (VO)_2P…
We present up to date investigations of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg icosidodecahedron by means of the Density Matrix Renormalization Group method. We compare our results with modern Correlator Product State as well as Lanczos calculations.
We report 7Li NMR studies of single crystals of triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet Li7RuO6. Slow critical divergence with a wide critical region of |T/TN - 1|< 7 was observed in 7Li nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate. The slowing down of staggered spin fluctuations was analyzed in a renormalized classical region of a two-dimensional triangular-lattice non-linear sigma model. A spin stiffness constant was found to reduce to about 20 % from the value in a spin-wave approximation. The effect of spin frustration, e.g., Z2 vortex excitations on the critical phenomena is suggested.
Doping the high-Tc superconductor YBa2Cu3O6.7 with 1.5 % of non-magnetic Zn impurities in CuO2 planes is shown to produce a considerable broadening of 63Cu NMR spectra, as well as an increase of low-energy magnetic fluctuations detected in 63Cu spin-lattice relaxation measurements. A model-independent analysis demonstrates that these effects are due to the development of staggered magnetic moments on many Cu sites around each Zn and that the Zn-induced moment in the bulk susceptibility might be explained by this staggered magnetization. Several implications of these enhanced antiferromagnetic …
We report magnetization, specific heat, muon spin rotation and Na NMR measurements on the S=3/2 rhombohedrally stacked Heisenberg antiferromagnet NaCrO2. This compound appears to be an ideal candidate for the study of triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnets with very weak interlayer coupling. While specific heat and magnetization measurements indicate the occurrence of a transition in the range 40-46 K, both muon spin rotation and NMR reveal a fluctuating regime extending well below T_c, with a peak of relaxation rate 1/T1 around 30 K. This novel finding is discussed within the context of excit…
The magnetic properties of Na2CuP2O7 were investigated by means of 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements. We report the 31P NMR shift, the spin-lattice 1/T1, and spin-spin 1/T2 relaxation-rate data as a function of temperature T. The temperature dependence of the NMR shift K(T) is well described by the S=1/2 square lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnetic (HAF) model with an intraplanar exchange of J/k_B \simeq 18\pm2 K and a hyperfine coupling A = (3533\pm185) Oe/mu_B. The 31P NMR spectrum was found to broaden abruptly below T \sim 10 K sign…
We carried out $^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on the trigonal CaMn$_2$As$_2$ and SrMn$_2$As$_2$ insulators exhibiting antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordered states below Néel temperatures $T_{\rm N}$ = 62 K and 120 K, respectively. In the paramagnetic state above $T_{\rm N}$, typical quadrupolar-split $^{75}$As-NMR spectra were observed for both systems. The $^{75}$As quadrupolar frequency $ν_{\rm Q}$ for CaMn$_2$As$_2$ decreases with decreasing temperature, while $ν_{\rm Q}$ for SrMn$_2$As$_2$ increases, showing an opposite temperature dependence. In the AFM state, the relati…
$^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements carried out on underdoped, non-superconducting Ca$_{10}$(Pt$_3$As$_8$)(Fe$_2$As$_2$)$_5$ reveal physical properties that are similar but not identical to the 122 superconductor parent compounds such as BaFe$_2$As$_2$. Results from the single crystal study indicate a phase transition to an antiferromagnetic (AF) state on cooling through T~100K, albeit nonuniformly. Specifically, the NMR lineshape reflects the presence of staggered hyperfine fields on the As sites associated with a striped AF order. The variation of the internal hyperfine f…
$^{51}$V nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and magnetization studies on CeTi$_{1-x}$V$_x$Ge$_3$ have been performed to explore the evolution from the ferromagnetic ($x = 0.113$) to the antiferromagnetic Kondo lattice state ($x = 1$), with focus on the emergence of a possible ferromagnetic quantum critical point (FMQCP) at $x_c \approx 0.4$. From the temperature dependence of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate, $1/T_1T$, and the Knight shift, \textit{K}, for $x=0.113$ and $x=1$ a considerable competition between ferro- and antiferromagnetic correlations is found. Around the critical concen…
We obtain the logarithmic corrections to the dynamic response function and NMR T_1 and T_{2G} rates in the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain using perturbative renormalization group in the leading irrelevant operator. The result is compared with NMR experiments in Sr_2CuO_3.
The exact amplitude for the asymptotic correlation function in the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain is determined: <S^a_0 S^b_r> goes to (-1)^r delta^{ab}(ln r)^{1/2}/[(2 pi)^{3/2}r]. The behaviour of the correlation functions for small xxz anisotropy and the form of finite-size corrections to the correlation function are also analysed.
Ground-state and finite-temperature properties of $S=1/2$ Heisenberg ladders with a ferromagnetic leg, an antiferromagnetic leg, and antiferromagnetic rungs are studied. It is shown that a partial ferrimagnetic phase extends over a wide parameter range in the ground state. The numerical results are supported by an analytical calculation based on a mapping onto the nonlinear $σ$ model and a perturbation calculation from the strong-rung limit. It is shown that the partial ferrimagnetic state is a spontaneously magnetized Tomonaga--Luttinger liquid with incommensurate magnetic correlation, which …

We report nuclear magnetic resonance data in the bilayer nickelate La3Ni2O6. This material belongs to a family of low valence nickel oxides with square planar coordination of the Ni ions and is isoelectronic to the high temperature superconducting cuprates. Although the three layer nickelate compound exhibits a spin-state transition accompanied by antiferromagnetic order, the bilayer material shows no phase transition. The NMR data in the bilayer La3Ni2O6 reveal the presence of antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations down to 5K that are surprisingly similar to those present in the magnetically ord…
The evolution of 75As NMR parameters with composition and temperature was probed in the Ba(Fe1-xRux)2As2 system where Fe is replaced by isovalent Ru. While the Ru-end member was found to be a conventional Fermi liquid, the composition (x=0.5) corresponding to the highest Tc (20K) in this system shows an upturn in 75As 1/T1T below about 80 K evidencing the presence of antiferromagnetic (AFM) fluctuations. These results are similar to those obtained in another system with isovalent substitution BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 [Y. Nakai, T. Iye, S. Kitagawa, K. Ishida, H. Ikeda, S. Kasahara, H. Shishido, T. Shib…
We study a model of a d-wave superconductor with strong potential scatterers in the presence of antiferromagnetic correlations and apply it to experimental nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) results on Zn impurities in the superconducting state of YBCO. We then focus on the contribution of impurity-induced paramagnetic moments, with Hubbard correlations in the host system accounted for in Hartree approximation. We show that local magnetism around individual impurities broadens the line, but quasiparticle interference between impurity states plays an important role in smearing out impurity satell…
In nonsuperconducting, metallic paramagnetic SrCo2As2, inelastic neutron scattering measurements have revealed strong stripe-type $χ$(q) = ($π$,0) antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin correlations. Here, using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on 59Co and 75As nuclei, we demonstrate that stronger ferromagnetic (FM) spin correlations coexist in SrCo2As2. Our NMR data are consistent with density functional theory (DFT) calculations which show enhancements at both q = ($π$,0) and the in-plane FM q = 0 wavevectors in static magnetic susceptibility $χ$(q). We suggest that the strong FM fluctuat…
Low-frequency spin dynamics in the S=1/2 antiferromagnetic spin-chain compound α-VO(PO_3)_2 has been studied by means of 31P NMR. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 at the P site exhibits H^{-1/2} dependence on the applied magnetic field (H) at temperatures (T) well above the intrachain coupling strength J/k_{B} = 3.50 K indicating one-dimensional diffusive spin dynamics. The diffusive contribution to 1/T_1 decreases on cooling as electronic spins acquire short-range antiferromagnetic correlations within the chain, and vanishes almost entirely around T \approx J/k_{B}. This is acco…
We compute the magnetic profile of spin Peierls solitons in a simple Heisenberg model with magneto elastic couplings, using independently the DMRG method and the Hartree Fock approximation. Our results agree qualitatively with published NMR data provided we average over the spin profiles. We conclude that he dynamics of the spin plus lattice system must be included in a more detailed theory of the spin Peierls transition in CuGeO.
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is expected to have an extended symmetry, [SU(2)xSU(2)]/Z 2 , in the infrared limit, whose physical interpretation is that the spin and dimer order parameters form the components of a common 4-dimensional vector. Here we numerically in- vestigate this emergent symmetry using quantum Monte Carlo simulations of a modified Heisenberg chain (the J-Q model) in which the logarithmic scaling corrections of the conventional Heisenberg chain can be avoided. We show how the two- and three-point spin and dimer correlation func- tions approach their forms constrained…
We report zero and longitudinal magnetic field muon spin relaxation measurements of the spin S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain material SrCuO2. We find that in a weak applied magnetic field B the spin-lattice relaxation rate follows a power law B^n with n=-0.9(3). This result is temperature independent for 5K < T < 300 K. Within conformal field theory and using the Müller ansatz we conclude ballistic spin transport in SrCuO2.
Within Dyson-Maleev (DM) transformation and self-consistent mean-field treatment, the Néel order/disorder transition is studied for an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model which is defined on a square lattice with a nearest neighbour exchange $J_1$ and a next-nearest neighbour exchange $J_2$ along only one of the diagonals. It is found that the Néel order may exist up to $J_2/J_1=0.572$, beyond its classically stable regime. This result qualitatively improves that from linear spin-wave theory based on Holstein-Primakoff transformation.
To check the reliability of the Majorana representation of quantum spin systems, we use it to compute the ground state energy of an antiferromagnetic spin 1/2 chain to one loop order. We find a very small one loop correction of the mean field energy and a discrepancy of >100% compared to the Bethe Ansatz result. We conclude that a careful handling of the gauge degrees of freedom of this representation is crucial to get correct results.
We study the distribution of local magnetic susceptibilities in the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic S=1/2 Heisenberg model on various random clusters, in order to determine whether effects of edge disorder could be detected in NMR experiments (through the line shape, as given by the distribution of local Knight shifts). Although the effects depend strongly on the nature of the edge and the cluster size, our results indicate that line widths broader than the average shift should be expected even in clusters as large as $\approx 1000$ lattice spacing in diameter. Experimental investigations of…
The static and dynamic properties of V^{4+} spins (S = 1/2) in the frustrated square lattice compound Pb2(VO)(PO4)2 were investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility chi and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) shift (K) and 31P nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 measurements on a single crystal. This compound exhibits long-range antiferromagnetic order below TN \simeq 3.65 K. NMR spectra above TN show two distinct lines corresponding to two inequivalent P sites present in the crystal structure. The observed asymmetry in hyperfine coupling constant for the in-plane (P1) P site direc…
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on icosahedral symmetry $I_{h}$ fullerene clusters exhibits unconventional magnetic properties, despite the lack of anisotropic interactions. At the classical level, and for number of sites $n \leq 720$, the magnetization has two discontinuities in an external magnetic field, except from the dodecahedron where it has three, emphasizing the role of frustration introduced by the pentagons in the unusual magnetic properties. For spin magnitudes $s_{i}={1/2}$ there is a discontinuity of quantum character close to saturation for $n \leq 80$. This common magnet…
Using the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) technique, we carry out a large scale numerical calculation for the S=2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain. Performing systematic scaling analysis for both the chain length $L$ and the number of optimal states kept in the iterations $m$, the Haldane gap $Δ(2)$ is estimated accurately as $(0.0876\pm0.0013)J$. Our systematic analysis for the S=2 chains not only ends the controversies arising from various DMRG calculations and Monte Carlo simulations, but also sheds light on how to obtain reliable results from the DMRG calculations for other c…
Spin models that have been proposed to describe dimerized chains, ladders, two dimensional antiferromagnets, and other compounds are here studied when some spins are replaced by spinless vacancies, such as it occurs by $Zn$ doping. A small percentage of vacancies rapidly destroys the spin gap, and their presence induces enhanced antiferromagnetic correlations near those vacancies. The study is performed with computational techniques which includes Lanczos, world-line Monte Carlo, and the Density Matrix Renormalization Group methods. Since the phenomenon of enhanced antiferromagnetism is found …
The low temperature behavior of Pr$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$MnO$_{3}$ manganites are known to undergo a transition at $x\sim$0.3, from an insulating ferromagnetic state, at low Ca concentration, to an insulating antiferromagnetic state. Above the onset concentration for the charge-ordering effect ($x\sim 0.3$), a metal-insulator transition induced by an external magnetic field is also observed and related to the collapse of the charge-ordered state. In this paper we show that the ferro-antiferromagnetic transition takes place in an inhomogeneous way: around the critical concentration the sample is a mix…
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a pyrochlore lattice under external magnetic field is studied by classical Monte Carlo simulation. The model includes bilinear and biquadratic interactions; the latter effectively describes the coupling to lattice distortions. The magnetization process shows a half-magnetization plateau at low temperatures, accompanied with strong suppression of the magnetic susceptibility. Temperature dependence of the plateau behavior is clarified. Finite-temperature phase diagram under the magnetic field is determined. The results are compared with recent experiment…
We report our nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) study on the structurally spin chain compound Ni$_2$NbBO$_6$ with complex magnetic coupling. The antiferromagnetic transition is monitored by the line splitting resulting from the staggered internal hyperfine field. The magnetic coupling configuration proposed by the first-principle density functional theory (DFT) is supported by our NMR spectral analysis. For the spin dynamics, a prominent peak at $T\sim35$ K well above the Néel temperature ($T_N\sim20$ K at $μ_0H=10$ T) is observed from the spin-lattice relaxation data. As compared with the dc-s…
We develop an analytical approach based on a unitary transformation to investigate S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains coupled to phonons, and find a new quantum phase transition at zero temperature. Although the usual phase transition occurs depending on the strengths of the spin-spin and spin-phonon interactions, the phase transition in the present work is induced by a change in the geometrical structure of the spin-phonon interaction. The magnetic properties of the phase transition can be understood in relation to a phase transition that has already been found in the frustrated J1-J2 …
By explicitly computing wavefunction overlap via exact diagonalization in finite systems, we provide evidence indicating that, in the limit of strong coupling, i.e., $Δ/t \to \infty$, the ground state of the Gutzwiller-projected BCS Hamiltonian (accompanied by proper particle-number projection) is identical to the exact ground state of the 2D antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the square lattice. This identity is adiabatically connected to a very high overlap between the ground states of the projected BCS Hamiltonian and the t-J model at moderate doping.
