We use the p-adic local Langlands correspondence for GL_2(Q_p) to explicitly compute the reduction modulo p of crystalline representations of small slope, and give applications to modular forms.
We complete the calculations begun in [BG09], using the p-adic local Langlands correspondence for GL2(Q_p) to give a complete description of the reduction modulo p of the 2-dimensional crystalline representations of G_{Q_p} of slope less than 1, when p > 2.
We use the p-adic local Langlands correspondence for GL_2(Q_p) to find the reduction modulo p of certain two-dimensional crystalline Galois representations. In particular, we resolve a conjecture of Breuil, Buzzard, and Emerton in the case when the slope is strictly between one and three, and prove partial results towards this conjecture for arbitrary slopes. Moreover, we partially classify the reduction modulo p of these representations when the slope is equal to one.
We consider the family of irreducible crystalline representations of dimension $2$ of ${\rm Gal}(\overline{\bf Q}_p/{\bf Q}_p)$ given by the $V_{k,a_p}$ for a fixed weight integer $k\geq 2$. We study the locus of the parameter $a_p$ where these representations have a given reduction modulo $p$. We give qualitative results on this locus and show that for a fixed $p$ and $k$ it can be computed by determining the reduction modulo $p$ of $V_{k,a_p}$ for a finite number of values of the parameter $a_p$. We also generalize these results to other Galois types.
We describe an algorithm to compute the reduction modulo $p$ of a crystalline Galois representation of dimension $2$ of $\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbf{Q}}_p/\mathbf{Q}_p)$ with distinct Hodge-Tate weights via the semi-simple modulo $p$ Langlands correspondence. We give some examples computed with an implementation of this algorithm in SAGE.
Irreducible crystalline representations of dimension 2 of Gal(Qpbar/Qp) depend up to twist on two parameters, the weight k and the trace of frobenius a_p. We show that the reduction modulo p of such a representation is a locally constant function of a_p (with an explicit radius) and a locally constant function of the weight k if a_p <> 0. We then give an algorithm for computing the reductions modulo p of these representations. The main ingredient is Fontaine's theory of (phi,Gamma)-modules as well as the theory of Wach modules.
The question of computing the reductions modulo $p$ of two-dimensional crystalline $p$-adic Galois representations has been studied extensively, and partial progress has been made for representations that have small weights, very small slopes, or very large slopes. It was conjectured by Breuil, Buzzard, and Emerton that these reductions are irreducible if they have even weight and non-integer slope. We prove some instances of this conjecture for slopes up to $\frac{p-1}{2}$.
Given a perfect field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$, a smooth proper $k$-scheme $Y$, a crystal $E$ on $Y$ relative to $W(k)$ and a finite group $G$ acting on $Y$ and $E$, we show that, viewed as virtual $k[G]$-module, the reduction modulo $p$ of the crystalline cohomology of $E$ is the de Rham cohomology of $E$ modulo $p$. On the way we prove a base change theorem for the virtual $G$-representions associated with $G$-equivariant objects in the derived category of $W(k)$-modules.
In this paper we present a probabilistic algorithm to compute the coefficients of modular forms of level one. Focus on the Ramanujan's tau function, we give out the explicit complexity of the algorithm. From a practical viewpoint, the algorithm is particularly well suited for implementations.
We compute reduction $\bar ρ$ of 3-dimensional irreducible crystalline representations $ρ$ of $G_{\mathbb Q_p}$ with Hodge-Tate weights $\{0, r , s\}$ satisfying $2 \leq r \leq p-2, \ \ 2+p \leq s \leq r + p-2.$ If $\bar ρ$ is irreducible then we show that the generic fiber of crystalline universal deformation ring of $\bar ρ$ is connected.
Let $p>3$ be a prime number and let $G_{\mathbb{Q}_p}$ be the absolute Galois group of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. In this paper, we find Galois stable lattices in the irreducible $3$-dimensional semi-stable and non-crystalline representations of $G_{\mathbb{Q}_p}$ with Hodge--Tate weights $(0,1,2)$ by constructing their strongly divisible modules. We also compute the Breuil modules corresponding to the mod $p$ reductions of the strongly divisible modules, and determine which of the semi-stable representations has an absolutely irreducible mod $p$ reduction.
Let $p$ be an odd prime number, $K_{f}$ the finite unramified extension of $\mathbb{Q}_{p}$ of degree $f$, and $G_{K_{f}}$ its absolute Galois group. We construct analytic families of étale $(φ,Γ)$-modules which give rise to some families of 2-dimensional crystalline representations of $G_{K_{f}}$ with length of filtration $\geq p$. As an application, we prove that the modulo $p$ reductions of the members of each such family (with respect to appropriately chosen Galois-stable lattices) are constant.
We study the mod $p$ reduction of crystalline local Galois representations of dimension 2 under certain conditions on its weight and slope. Berger showed that for a fixed non-zero trace of the Frobenius, the reduction process is locally constant for varying weights. By explicit computation we obtain an upper bound that is a linear function of the slope, for the radius of this local constancy around some special points in the weight space.
Fontaine's $D_{\mathrm{cris}}$ functor allow us to associate an isocrystal to any crystalline representation. For a reductive group $G$, we study the reduction of lattices inside a germ of crystalline representations with $G$-structure $V$ to lattices (which are crystals) with $G$-structure inside $D_{\mathrm{cris}}(V)$. Using Kisin modules theory, we give a description of this reduction in terms of $G$, in the case when the representation $V$ is ($G$-)ordinary. In order to do that, first we need to generalize Fargues' construction of the Harder-Narasimhan filtration for $p$-divisible groups t…
We determine rational Kisin modules associated with two-dimensional, irreducible, crystalline representations of $\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$ of Hodge-Tate weights $0, k-1$. If the slope is larger than $\lfloor \frac{k-1}{p} \rfloor$, we further identify an integral Kisin module, which we use to calculate the semisimple reduction of the Galois representation. In that range, we find that the reduction is constant, thereby improving on a theorem of Berger, Li, and Zhu.
Let K_{f} be the finite unramified extension of Q_{p} of degree f and E any finite large enough coefficient field containing K_{f}. We construct analytic families of étale (Phi,Gamma)-modules which give rise to families of crystalline E-representations of the absolute Galois group G_{K_{f}} of K_{f}. For any irreducible effective two-dimensional crystalline E-representation of G_{K_{f}} with labeled Hodge-Tate weights {0,-k_{i}}_{τ_{i}} induced from a crystalline character of G_{K_{2f}}, we construct an infinite family of crystalline E-representations of G_{K_{f}} of the same Hodge-Tate type w…
We study the behavior of geometric Picard ranks of K3 surfaces over the rationals under reduction modulo primes. We compute these ranks for reductions of smooth quartic surfaces modulo all primes $p<2^{16}$ in several representative examples and investigate the resulting statistics.
We prove the existence of local constancy phenomena for reductions in a general prime power setting of two-dimensional irreducible crystalline representations. Up to twist, these representations depend on two parameters: a trace $a_p$ and a weight $k$. We find an (explicit) local constancy result with respect to $a_p$ using Fontaine's theory of $(φ, Γ)$-modules and its crystalline refinement due to Berger via Wach modules and their continuity properties. The local constancy result with respect to $k$ (for $a_p\not=0$) will follow from a local study of Colmez's rigid analytic space parametrizin…
We study the algebraic dynamical systems generated by triangular systems of rational functions and estimate the height growth of iterations generated by such systems. Further, using a result on the reduction modulo primes of systems of multivariate polynomials over the integers, we study the periodic points and the intersection of orbits of such dynamical systems over finite fields. 1
In our previous paper an effective algorithm for inverting polynomial automorphisms was proposed. Also the class of Pascal finite polynomial automorphisms was introduced. Pascal finite polynomial maps constitute a generalization of exponential automorphisms to positive characteristic. In this note we explore properties of the algorithm while using Segre homotopy and reductions modulo prime number. We give a method of retrieving an inverse of a given polynomial automorphism $F$ with integer coefficients form a finite set of the inverses of its reductions modulo prime numbers. Some examples illu…
A conjecture of Breuil, Buzzard, and Emerton says that the slopes of certain reducible $p$-adic Galois representations must be integers. In previous work we showed this conjecture for representations that lie over certain non-subtle components of weight space. This article is a continuation of that work in which we completely classify the aforementioned representations over the non-subtle components of weight space, both for integer and non-integer slopes.
We prove some new cases of weight part of Serre's conjectures for mod $p$ Galois representations associated to automorphic representations on unitary groups $U(d)$. The approach is a generalization of the work of Gee-Liu-Savitt, namely, we study reductions of certain crystalline representations, as well as crystalline lifts of these reductions.
We consider the reduction of an elliptic curve defined over the rational numbers modulo primes in a given arithmetic progression and investigate how often the subgroup of rational points of this reduced curve is cyclic as a special case of Serre's Cyclicity Conjecture.
We provide a simple approach for the crystalline comparison of Ainf-cohomology, and reprove the comparison between crystalline and p-adic etale cohomology for formal schemes in the case of good reduction.
We construct explicitly some analytic families of etale (phi,Gamma)-modules, which give rise to analytic families of 2-dimensional crystalline representations. As an application of our constructions, we verify some conjectures of Breuil on the reduction modulo p of those representations, and extend some results (of Deligne, Edixhoven, Fontaine and Serre) on the representations arising from modular forms.
A conjecture of Breuil, Buzzard, and Emerton says that the slopes of certain reducible $p$-adic Galois representations must be integers. In previous work we showed this conjecture for representations that lie over certain non-subtle components of weight space. This article is a continuation of that work in which we also show the conjecture for the subtle components for slopes less than $\frac{p-1}{2}$.
Let F be a non-Archimedean local field of residue characteristic p. In this paper, we first compute the reduction modulo p of irreducible smooth representations of a quaternion division algebra over F and of two-dimensional irreducible smooth representations of the Weil group of F. It turns out that a natural correspondence of mod p representations of the two groups and the composite of the local Langlands and Jacquet-Langlands correspondence are not compatible with the reduction, except in the cases considered by Vigneras.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over ${\mathbb Q}$. For a prime $p$ of good reduction for $E$, denote by $e_p$ the exponent of the reduction of $E$ modulo $p$. Under GRH, we prove that there is a constant $C_E\in (0, 1)$ such that $$ \frac{1}{π(x)} \sum_{p\le x} e_p = 1/2 C_E x + O_E\big(x^{5/6} (\log x)^{4/3}\big) $$ for all $x\ge 2$, where the implied constant depends on $E$ at most. When $E$ has complex multiplication, the same asymptotic formula with a weaker error term $O_E(1/(\log x)^{1/14})$ is established unconditionally. These improve some recent results of Freiberg and Kurlberg.
We consider $\ell$-adic trace functions over finite fields taking values in cyclotomic integers, such as characters and exponential sums. Through ideas of Deligne and Katz, we explore probabilistic properties of the reductions modulo a prime ideal, exploiting especially the determination of their integral monodromy groups. In particular, this gives a generalization of a result of Lamzouri-Zaharescu on the distribution of short sums of the Legendre symbol reduced modulo an integer to all multiplicative characters and to hyper-Kloosterman sums.
In this paper we will give an account of Dan's reduction method for reducing the weight $ n $ multiple logarithm $ I_{1,1,\ldots,1}(x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_n) $ to an explicit sum of lower depth multiple polylogarithms in $ \leq n - 2 $ variables. We provide a detailed explanation of the method Dan outlines, and we fill in the missing proofs for Dan's claims. This establishes the validity of the method itself, and allows us to produce a corrected version of Dan's reduction of $ I_{1,1,1,1} $ to $ I_{3,1} $'s and $ I_4 $'s. We then use the symbol of multiple polylogarithms to answer Dan's question …
Let $π_1,π_2$ be a pair of cuspidal complex, or $\ell$-adic, representations of the general linear group of rank $n$ over a non-archimedean local field $F$ of residual characteristic $p$, different to $\ell$. Whenever the local Rankin-Selberg $L$-factor $L(X,π_1,π_2)$ is nontrivial, we exhibit explicit test vectors in the Whittaker models of $π_1$ and $π_2$ such that the local Rankin-Selberg integral associated to these vectors and to the characteristic function of $\mathfrak{o}_F^n$ is equal to $L(X,π_1,π_2)$. We give an initial application of the test vectors to reduction modulo $\ell$ of $\…

We give bounds for the number and the size of the primes $p$ such that a reduction modulo $p$ of a system of multivariate polynomials over the integers with a finite number $T$ of complex zeros, does not have exactly $T$ zeros over the algebraic closure of the field with $p$ elements. We apply these bounds to study the periodic points and the intersection of orbits of algebraic dynamical systems over finite fields. In particular, we establish some links between these problems and the uniform dynamical Mordell-Lang conjecture.
Let $ψ$ be a generic Drinfeld module of rank $r \geq 2$. We study the first elementary divisor $d_{1, \wp}(ψ)$ of the reduction of $ψ$ modulo a prime $\wp$, as $\wp$ varies. In particular, we prove the existence of the density of the primes $\wp$ for which $d_{1, \wp} (ψ)$ is fixed. For $r = 2$, we also study the second elementary divisor (the exponent) of the reduction of $ψ$ modulo $\wp$ and prove that, on average, it has a large norm. Our work is motivated by the study of J.-P. Serre of an elliptic curve analogue of Artin's Primitive Root Conjecture, and, moreover, by refinements to Serre's…
Let $K$ be a field of characteristic zero complete for a discrete valuation, with perfect residue field of characteristic $p>0$, and let $K^+$ be the valuation ring of $K$. We relate the log-crystalline cohomology of the special fibre of certain affine $K^+$-schemes $X=\text{Spec}(R)$ with semi-stable reduction to the Galois cohomology of the fundamental group of the geometric generic fibre $π_1(X_{\bar{K}})$ with coefficients in a Fontaine ring constructed from $R$. This is based on Faltings' theory of almost étale extensions.
After extending the theory of Rankin-Selberg local factors to pairs of $\ell$-modular representations of Whittaker type, of general linear groups over a non-archimedean local field, we study the reduction modulo $\ell$ of $\ell$-adic local factors and their relation to these $\ell$-modular local factors. While the $\ell$-modular local $γ$-factor we associate to such a pair turns out to always coincide with the reduction modulo $\ell$ of the $\ell$-adic $γ$-factor of any Whittaker lifts of this pair, the local $L$-factor exhibits a more interesting behaviour; always dividing the reduction modul…
We study the reduction of Picard modular surfaces modulo an inert prime, mod p and p-adic modular forms. We construct a theta operator on such modular forms and study its poles and its effect on Fourier-Jacobi expansions.
We present lower bounds for the orbit length of reduction modulo primes of parametric polynomial dynamical systems defined over the integers, under a suitable hypothesis on its set of preperiodic points over $\mathbb C$. Applying recent results of Baker and DeMarco~(2011) and of Ghioca, Krieger, Nguyen and Ye~(2017), we obtain explicit families of parametric polynomials and initial points such that the reductions modulo primes have long orbits, for all but a finite number of values of the parameters. This generalizes a previous lower bound due to Chang~(2015). As a by-product, we also slighly …
Let F : V --> V be a self-morphism of a quasiprojective variety defined over a number field K and let P be a point in V(K) with infinite orbit under iteration of F. For each prime ideal p of good reduction, let m_p(F,P) be the size of the F-orbit of the reduction of P modulo p. Fix any e > 0. We show that for almost all primes p, in the sense of analytic density, the orbit size m_p(F,P) is larger than (log(N(p)))^(1-e), where N(p) is the norm of the ideal p.
We prove seven of the Rogers-Ramanujan type identities modulo $12$ that were conjectured by Kanade and Russell. Included among these seven are the two original modulo $12$ identities, in which the products have asymmetric congruence conditions, as well as the three symmetric identities related to the principally specialized characters of certain level $2$ modules of $A_9^{(2)}$. We also give reductions of four other conjectures in terms of single-sum basic hypergeometric series.
Let A be an abelian variety over a number field F with End(A/F) commutative. Let S be a subgroup of A(F) and let x be a point of A(F). Suppose that for almost all places v of F the reduction of x modulo v lies in the reduction of S modulo v. In this paper we prove that x must then lie in S + A(F)_tors. This provides a partial answer to a generalization (due to W. Gajda) of the support problem of Erdos.
Let $E_1$ and $E_2$ be elliptic curves in Legendre form with integer parameters. We show there exists a constant $C$ such that for almost all primes, for all but at most $C$ pairs of points on the reduction of $E_1 \times E_2$ modulo $p$ having equal $x$ coordinate, at least one among $P_1$ and $P_2$ has a large group order. We also show similar abundance over finite fields of elements whose images under the reduction modulo $p$ of a finite set of rational functions have large multiplicative orders
We compute the reduction modulo $p$ of 2-dimensional crystalline representations whose Hodge-Tate weights are 0 and $k-1$ with $k \in \{p+2,...,2p-1\}$.
We consider polynomial equations, or systems of polynomial equations, with integer coefficients, modulo prime numbers $p$. We offer an elementary approach based on a counting method. The outcome is a weak form of the Lang-Weil lower bound for the number of solutions modulo $p$, only differing from Lang-Weil by an asymptotic $p^ε$ multiplicative factor. Our second contribution is a reduction lemma to the case of a single equation which we use to extend our results to systems of equations. We show further how to use this reduction to prove the full Lang-Weil estimate for varieties, assuming it f…
Consider the Drinfeld modular curve $X_0(\mathfrak{p})$ for $\mathfrak{p}$ a prime ideal of $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$. It was previously known that if $j$ is the $j$-invariant of a Weierstrass point of $X_0(\mathfrak{p})$, then the reduction of $j$ modulo $\mathfrak{p}$ is a supersingular $j$-invariant. In this paper we show the converse: Every supersingular $j$-invariant is the reduction modulo $\mathfrak{p}$ of the $j$-invariant of a Weierstrass point of $X_0(\mathfrak{p})$.
Suppose F=W(k)[1/p] where W(k) is the ring of Witt vectors with coefficients in algebraically closed field k of characteristic p>2. We construct integral theory of p-adic semi-stable representations of the absolute Galois group of F with Hodge-Tate weights from [0,p). This modification of Breuil's theory results in the following application in the spirit of Shafarevich's Conjecture. If Y is a projective algebraic variety over the field of rational numbers with good reduction modulo all primes different from 3 and semi-stable reduction modulo 3 then for the Hodge numbers of the complexification…
