We present the results of the first hadron collider search for heavy, long-lived neutralinos that decay via lightest neutralino to gamma gravitino in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. Using an integrated luminosity of $570\pm34 pb^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV, we select $γ$+jet+missing transverse energy candidate events based on the arrival time of a high-energy photon at the electromagnetic calorimeter as measured with a timing system that was recently installed on the CDF II detector. We find 2 events, consistent with the background estimate of 1.3$\pm$0.7 events. While our search strategy does not rely on model-specific dynamics, we set cross section limits and place the world-best 95% C.L. lower limit on the neutralino mass of 101 GeV at lifetime = 5 ns.
We propose a like-sign dilepton search for chargino-neutralino production in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV, which complements the previously published trilepton search by the CDF detector using Fermilab Run I data. Monte Carlo predictions for the signal and background efficiencies indicate a significant increase in sensitivity to chargino-neutralino production compared to the traditional trilepton analysis alone.
We present the results of a search for associated production of the lightest chargino and next-to-lightest neutralino using 1 fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt s$ = 1.96 TeV p$\rm \bar p$ data collected with the CDF detector at the Tevatron. We combine the results of several multi-lepton final states to set upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio for chargino-neutralino production as a function of the chargino mass.
We present results of the search for the super-symmetric partner of the top quark, the stop quark, decaying to a b-quark and chargino with the subsequent chargino decay into a neutralino, lepton and neutrino. Using the data sample corresponding to 2.7 inv fb of integrated luminosity, collected with the CDF Detector of the Tevatron collider, we reconstruct the stop mass of candidate events and set 95% C. L. upper limits on masses of the stop quark, chargino and neutralino and the branching ratio of chargino to neutralino+lepton+neutrino.
We present a search for chargino-neutralino associated production using like electric charge dilepton events collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV. One lepton is identified as the hadronic decay of a tau lepton, while the other is an electron or muon. In data corresponding to 6.0 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, we obtain good agreement with standard model predictions, and set limits on the chargino-neutralino production cross section for simplified gravity- and gauge-mediated models. As an example, assuming that t…
A search for long-lived charged massive particles in CDF's Run1b data sample is presented. The search looks for highly ionizing tracks which would result from slowly moving massive particles. We search for strongly produced particles using a stable color triplet quark as a reference model, and a separate search was performed for weakly produced particles using long-lived sleptons in Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking as a reference model. No excess over background was observed, and we derive limits on the cross-sections for production of these particles. Prospects for RunII are also discuss…
Results are presented from a search for long-lived neutralinos decaying into a photon and an invisible particle, a signature associated with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking in supersymmetric models. The analysis is based on a 4.9 inverse femtobarn sample of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The missing transverse energy and the time of arrival of the photon at the electromagnetic calorimeter are used to search for an excess of events over the expected background. No significant excess is observed, and lower limits at the 95% confiden…
We present the first search for heavy, long-lived particles that decay to photons at a hadron collider. We use a sample of photon+jet+missing transverse energy events in p-pbar collisions at \sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV taken with the CDF II detector. Candidate events are selected based on the arrival time of the photon at the detector. Using an integrated luminosity of 570 pb-1 of collision data, we observe 2 events, consistent with the background estimate of 1.3+-0.7 events. While our search strategy does not rely on model-specific dynamics, we set cross section limits in a supersymmetric model with \t…
A search for long-lived particles decaying to photons and weakly interacting particles, using proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment in 2016-2017 is presented. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 77.4 fb$^{-1}$. Results are interpreted in the context of supersymmetry with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking, where the neutralino is long-lived and decays to a photon and a gravitino. Limits are presented as a function of the neutralino proper decay length and mass. For neutralino proper decay lengths of 0.1, 1, 10, and 100 m, mas…
I present a review of the searches for charginos and neutralinos using data from proton-antiproton collision at the centre of mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF and the D0 experiments at the Tevatron during run II.
Light neutralinos could be copiously produced from the decays of mesons generated in cosmic-ray air showers. These neutralinos can be long-lived particles in the context of R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetric models, implying that they could be capable of reaching the surface of the earth and decay within the instrumental volume of large neutrino detectors. In this letter, we use atmospheric neutrino data from the Super-Kamiokande experiment to derive novel constraints for the RPV couplings involved in the production of long-lived light neutralinos from the decays of charged $D$-mesons and…
We present a search for chargino and neutralino supersymmetric particles yielding same signed dilepton final states including one hadronically decaying tau lepton using 6.0 $fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the the CDF II detector. This signature is important in SUSY models where, at high $\tanβ$, the branching ratio of charginos and neutralinos to tau leptons becomes dominant. We study event acceptance, lepton identification cuts, and efficiencies. We set limits on the production cross section as a function of SUSY particle mass for certain generic models.
Supersymmetry, if realized in Nature, predicts the existence of new particles, as chargino and neutralino, which might manifest themselves with peculiar signatures. Three leptons and large missing transverse energy in the event could signal their associated production. We report the latest results of the search performed by the CDF Collaboration in proton-antiproton collisions at Tevatron Run II.
The production of chargino-neutralino pairs and their subsequent leptonic decays is one of the most promising supersymmetry (SUSY) signatures at the Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ collider. We present here the most recent results on the search for the three-lepton and missing-transverse-energy SUSY signature using data collected with the CDF II detector. The results are interpreted within the minimal supergravity (mSugra) scenario.
The differential cross section of the chargino-neutralino production, q qbar --> chi+- chi0, followed by their decays into scalar tau leptons, chi+- chi0 --> (stau+- nu)(stau-+ tau+-) --> (stau+- nu)(stau-+ l+- nu nubar), is calculated including the effect of spin correlations. In the case where stau is long-lived, this final state can be fully reconstructed in a hadron-collider experiment up to a discrete two-fold ambiguity. Distributions of various kinematic variables can thus be observable and tell us about masses and spins of superparticles and also parity/CP violation in interactions by c…
An updated search is performed for gluino, top squark, or bottom squark R-hadrons that have come to rest within the ATLAS calorimeter, and decay at some later time to hadronic jets and a neutralino, using 5.0 and 22.9 fb-1 of pp collisions at 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. Candidate decay events are triggered in selected empty bunch crossings of the LHC in order to remove pp collision backgrounds. Selections based on jet shape and muon-system activity are applied to discriminate signal events from cosmic ray and beam-halo muon backgrounds. In the absence of an excess of events, improved limits are…
The chargino-neutralino production with subsequent leptonic decays is one of the most promising supersymmetry (SUSY) signatures at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. We present the most recent results on the search for the three-lepton and missing-transverse-energy SUSY signature using 3.2 fb-1 of data collected with the CDF II detector. The results are interpreted within the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) scenario.
We investigate the collider signatures of heavy, long-lived, neutral particles that decay to charged particles plus missing energy. Specifically, we focus on the case of a neutralino NLSP decaying to Z and gravitino within the context of General Gauge Mediation. We show that a combination of searches using the inner detector and the muon spectrometer yields a wide range of potential early LHC discoveries for NLSP lifetimes ranging from 10^(-1)-10^5 mm. We further show that events from Z(l+l-) can be used for detailed kinematic reconstruction, leading to accurate determinations of the neutralin…
Promptly decaying lightest neutralinos and long-lived staus are searched for in the context of light gravitino scenarios. It is assumed that the stau is the next to lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) and that the lightest neutralino is the next to NLSP (NNLSP). Data collected with the Delphi detector at centre-of-mass energies from 161 to 183 \GeV are analysed. No evidence of the production of these particles is found. Hence, lower mass limits for both kinds of particles are set at 95% C.L.. The mass of gaugino-like neutralinos is found to be greater than 71.5 GeV/c^2. In the search for l…
We combine the results of the CDF and D0 searches for chargino and neutralino production in Gauge-Mediated SUSY using the two-photon and missing Et channel. The data are p-pbar collisions produced at the Tevatron with sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, with 202 pb^-1 collected at CDF and 263 pb^-1 collected at D0. The combined limit excludes a chargino mass less than 209 GeV/c^2. This result significantly extends the individual experimental limits.
We use the three lepton and missing energy "trilepton" signature to search for chargino-neutralino production with $2.0 fb^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ collider. We expect approximately 11 supersymmetric events for a specific choice of parameters of the mSUGRA model, but our observation of 7 events is consistent with the standard model expectation of 6.4 events. We constrain the mSUGRA model of supersymmetry and rule out chargino masses up to $145 GeV/c^2$ for a specific choice of parameters.
We consider light neutralinos of mass about 1 GeV, produced from $τ$ lepton rare decays at Belle II, in the context of R-parity-violating (RPV) supersymmetry. With large and clean samples of $τ$ leptons produced at the Belle II experiment, excellent sensitivity to such light neutralinos with the exotic signatures of displaced vertices is expected. We focus on two benchmark scenarios of single RPV operators, $λ'_{311} L_3 Q_1 \bar{D}_1$ and $λ'_{312} L_3 Q_1 \bar{D}_2$, which induce both the production and decay of the lightest neutralino. For the reconstruction of a displaced vertex, we requir…
We use the three lepton and missing energy "trilepton" signature to search for chargino-neutralino production with 2.0 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron ppbar collider. We expect an excess of approximately 11 supersymmetric events for a choice of parameters of the mSUGRA model, but our observation of 7 events is consistent with the standard model expectation of 6.4 events. We constrain the mSUGRA model of supersymmetry and rule out chargino masses up to 145 GeV/c^2 for a specific choice of parameters.
We present a search for the associated production of charginos and neutralinos in p-pbar collisions at 1.96 TeV. The data were collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II) and correspond to integrated luminosities between 0.7 and 1.0 fb-1. We look for final states with one high pT electron or muon, and two additional leptons. Our results are consistent with the standard model expectations, and we set limits on the cross section as a function of the chargino mass in three different supersymmetric scenarios. For a specific MSSM scenario with no slepton mixing we set a 95 % C.L. limit …
A search for long-lived particles decaying into an oppositely charged lepton pair, $μμ$, $ee$, or $eμ$, is presented using 32.8 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data collected at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Candidate leptons are required to form a vertex, within the inner tracking volume of ATLAS, displaced from the primary $pp$ interaction region. No lepton pairs with an invariant mass greater than 12 GeV are observed, consistent with the background expectations derived from data. The detection efficiencies for generic resonances with lifetimes ($cτ$) of 100-1000 mm decayin…
We present the results of a search for anomalous production of diphoton events with large missing transverse energy using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. In 202 $\invpb$ of $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV we observe no candidate events, with an expected standard model background of $0.27\pm0.07({\rm stat})\pm0.10({\rm syst})$ events. The results exclude a lightest chargino of mass less than 167 GeV/$c^2$, and lightest neutralino of mass less than 93 GeV/$c^2$ at 95% C.L. in a gauge--mediated supersymmetry-- breaking model with a light gravitino.
We present the results of a search for associated production of the chargino and neutralino supersymmetric particles using up to 1.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron ppbar collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The search is conducted by analyzing events with a large transverse momentum imbalance and either three charged leptons or two charged leptons of the same electric charge. The numbers of observed events are found to be consistent with standard model expectations. Upper limits on the production cross section are derived in differe…
If produced at the LHC, long-lived charged particles (LLCPs) would leave tracks in the muon detector. Time-of-Flight based methods for detecting these particles become less efficient if the LLCPs are fast, which would typically be the case if they are produced in the decays of some mother particle which is either heavy or very boosted. Thus for example, in supersymmetric models with long-lived sleptons, the long-lived sleptons produced in neutralino decays are often fast, with beta above 0.95 even at a 7 TeV LHC. We propose to use the (mis-measured) invariant mass distribution of "muon"-lepton…
Last year's X(3872) discovery was confirmed with the CDF II detector in pbarp collisions. We measure its mass to be $3871.3 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4 MeV/c2$. The source of X-mesons in the large CDF sample is resolved by studying their vertex displacement. We find $16.1 \pm 4.9 \pm 2.0$% of our X-sample comes from decays of b-hadrons, and the remainder from prompt sources: either direct production or by decay of (unknown) short-lived particles. The mix of production sources is similar to that observed for the psi(2S) charmonium state.
Many extensions of the Standard Model posit the existence of heavy particles with long lifetimes. In this Letter, results are presented of a search for such particles, which decay at a significant distance from their production point, using a final state containing charged hadrons and an associated muon. This analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)= 7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb-1 collected in 2011 by the ATLAS detector operating at the Large Hadron Collider. Results are interpreted in the context of R-parity violating supersymmetric scena…
CDF recently reported an excess of events in the mu-gamma-missing E_T channel that disagrees with the Standard Model prediction. No such excess was observed in the e-gamma-mett channel. We explain the excess via resonant smuon production with a single dominant R-parity violating coupling lambda'_{211}, in the context of models where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The slepton decays to the lightest neutralino and a muon followed by neutralino decaying to a gravitino and photon. We determine a viable region of parameter space that fits the kinematical distributions of the…
A search is performed for long-lived neutral particles decaying into a photon and invisible particles. An example of such a signature is the decay of the lightest neutralino with nonzero lifetime into a gravitino and a photon in gauge-mediated supersymmetry, with the neutralino as the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle and the gravitino as the lightest. The search uses events containing photons, missing transverse energy, and jets. The impact parameter of the photon relative to the beam-beam collision point can be reconstructed using converted photons. The method is sensitive to lifetime…
Results are reported from a search for long-lived particles in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV delivered by the CERN LHC and collected by the CMS experiment. The data sample, which was recorded during 2015 and 2016, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 38.5 fb$^{-1}$. This search uses benchmark signal models in which long-lived particles are pair-produced and each decays into two or more quarks, leading to a signal with multiple jets and two displaced vertices composed of many tracks. No events with two well-separated high-track-multiplicity vertices are observed. Upper l…
We investigate a class of models where the supergravity model with the standard model gauge group is extended by a hidden sector $U(1)_X$ gauge group and where the lightest supersymmetric particle is the neutralino in the hidden sector. We investigate this possibility in a class of models where the stau is the lightest supersymmetric particle in the MSSM sector and the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle of the $U(1)_X$-extended SUGRA model. In this case the stau will decay into the neutralino of the hidden sector. For the case when the mass gap between the stau and the hidden sector neut…
A search is performed for long-lived massive neutral particles decaying to quark-antiquark pairs. The experimental signature is a distinctive topology of a pair of jets, originating at a secondary vertex. Events were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data analyzed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 18.5 inverse femtobarns. No significant excess is observed above standard model expectations. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section of a heavy neutral scalar particle, H, …
We present the non-standard model Higgs boson searches at both DO and CDF experiments. We concentrate on three topics, reported by DO and CDF recently: the searches for the minimal supersymmetric Higgs boson using pp--> hbb --> bbbb and pp --> hX --> tau tau X, and for long-lived doubly charged Higgs boson.
Several searches for long-lived particles have been performed using data from p-pbar collisions from Run II at the Tevatron. In most cases, new analysis techniques have been developed to carry out each search and/or estimate the backgrounds. These searches expand the discovery potential of the CDF and D0 experiments to new physics that may have been missed by traditional search techniques. This review discusses searches for (1) neutral, long-lived particles decaying to muons, (2) massive, neutral, long-lived particles decaying to a photon and missing energy, (3) stopped gluinos, and (4) charge…
The missing transverse energy (MET) plus b-jets signature is very promising for searches for the Higgs boson or new physics. Indeed, MET naturally arises from unidentified particles such as neutrinos, neutralinos, gravitons, etc., and b-quarks are the main decay products of a low mass Higgs boson as well as of several exotic particles. The main challenge is to identify and reject the numerous standard model (SM) backgrounds that mimic this signature. This is especially so for QCD multi-jet production, a large background due to mis-measurement (rather than undetectable particles). We present st…
We present the results of a search for pair production of the supersymmetric partner of the top quark (the stop quark $\tilde{t}_{1}$) decaying to a $b$-quark and a chargino $\chargino$ with a subsequent $\chargino$ decay into a neutralino $\neutralino$, lepton $\ell$, and neutrino $ν$. Using a data sample corresponding to 2.7 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity of $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV collected by the CDF II detector, we reconstruct the mass of candidate stop events and fit the observed mass spectrum to a combination of standard model processes and stop quark signal. …
We have searched for direct pair production of scalar top and scalar bottom quarks in 88 pb$^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV with the CDF detector. We looked for events with a pair of heavy flavor jets and missing energy, consistent with scalar top quark decays to a charm quark and a neutralino, or scalar bottom quark decays to a bottom quark and a neutralino. The numbers of events that pass our selection for each process show no deviation from Standard Model expectations. We compare our results to next-to-leading order calculations for the scalar quark production cross se…
We report a search for production of long-lived charged massive particles in a data sample of 90 pb^{-1} of \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV p anti-p collisions recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The search uses the muon-like penetration and anomalously high ionization energy loss signature expected for such a particle to discriminate it from backgrounds. The data is found to agree with background expectations, and cross section limits of \cal{O} (1) pb are derived using two reference models, a stable quark and a stable scalar lepton.
We present a search for long-lived doubly-charged Higgs bosons (H^{\pm \pm}), with signatures of high ionization energy loss and muon-like penetration. We use 292/pb of data collected in p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Observing no evidence of long-lived doubly-charged particle production, we exclude H^{\pm \pm}_L and H^{\pm \pm}_R bosons with masses below 133 GeV/c^2 and 109 GeV/c^2, respectively. In the degenerate case we exclude H^{\pm \pm} mass below 146 GeV/c^2. All limits are quoted at the 95% confidence level.
We search for new long-lived particles which decay to Z bosons by looking for Z->e+e- decays with displaced vertices. We find no evidence for parent particles of the Z with long lifetimes in 90 pb-1 of data from the CDF experiment at Fermilab. We set a cross section limit as a function of the lifetime of the parent particle for both a generic Z parent and a fourth-generation, charge -1/3 quark that decays into Z+b.
Supersymmetric models with a small neutralino-chargino mass difference, and as a result metastable charginos, have been a popular topic of investigation in collider phenomenology, e.g. in anomaly-mediated models of supersymmetry breaking. Recently, the absence of any supersymmetric signal at the 8 TeV LHC data has led to significant interest in the so-called Natural SUSY models with light higgsinos. These models also have a naturally small neutralino-chargino mass difference. However, we show here that when relevant indirect constraints from results at the LHC and elsewhere are applied, this p…
The minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) standard model (MSSM) augmented by right chiral sneutrinos may lead to one such sneutrino serving as the lightest supersymmetric particle and a non-thermal dark matter candidate, especially if neutrinos have Dirac masses only. In such cases, if the lightest MSSM particle is a stau, the signal of SUSY at the LHC consists in stable charged tracks which are distinguishable from backgrounds through their time delay between the inner tracker and the muon chamber. We show how to determine in such scenarios the mass hierarchy between the lightest neutralino and right…
Numerous searches for evidence of supersymmetry at the Tevatron have been performed by the CDF and D0 collaborations. Recent results are presented here including squarks and gluinos in jets and missing transverse energy, stop in several different decay modes, charginos and neutralinos in trileptons, neutralinos in di-photons, R-parity violating sneutrinos in e+mu events, and long-lived particles. These explore many variations of SUSY such as MSSM, mSUGRA, and GMSB. While no evidence of SUSY production is observed, 95% CL limits on cross sections and SUSY parameter space are set. Most of these …
The presence of a hidden sector with very weak interactions with the standard model has significant implications on LHC signatures. In this work we discuss LHC phenomenology with the inclusion of a hidden sector by a $U(1)$ extension of MSSM/SUGRA. We consider both kinetic mixing and Stueckelberg mass mixing between the $U(1)$ gauge field of the hidden sector and $U(1)_Y$ of the visible sector. Such a model has an extended parameter space. We consider here two limited regions of this parameter space. In the first case we consider a $U(1)$ gauge field along with chiral fields needed for the Stu…
A search is performed for a long-lived particle decaying into a final state that includes a pair of muons of opposite-sign electric charge, using proton-proton collision data collected at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 32.9 fb$^{-1}$. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation is observed. Limits at 95% confidence level on the lifetime of the long-lived particle are presented in models of new phenomena including gauge-mediated supersymmetry or decay of the Higgs boson, $H$, to a pair of dark phot…
We consider SUSY extensions of the standard model where the gravitino is the dark-matter particle and the stau is long lived. If there is a significant mass gap with squarks and gluinos, the staus produced at hadron colliders tend to be fast (beta>0.8), and the searches based on their delay in the time of flight or their anomalous ionization become less effective. Such staus would be identified as regular muons with the same linear momentum and a slightly reduced energy. Compared to the usual SUSY models where a neutralino is the LSP, this scenario implies (i) more leptons (the two staus at th…
We have searched for evidence of physics beyond the standard model in events that include an energetic photon and an energetic b-quark jet, produced in 85pb of ppbar collisions at 1.8 TeV at the Tevatron Collider at Fermilab. This signature, containing at least one gauge boson and a third-generation quark, could arise in the production and decay of a pair of new particles, such as those predicted by Supersymmetry, leading to a production rate exceeding standard model predictions. We also search these events for anomalous production of missing transverse energy, additional jets and leptons (e, …
CDF and D0 collaborations analyzed up to 200 pb-1 of the delivered data in search for different supersymmetry signatures, so far with negative results. We present results on searches for chargino and neutralino associated production, squarks and gluinos, sbottom quarks, gauge mediated SUSY breaking and long lived heavy particles.
This paper reviews some of the most recent results from CDF and D0 experiments on searches for supersymmetry (SUSY) at the Tevatron. We focus on searches for chargino/neutralino, stop, sbottom, and long lived massive SUSY particles, on data samples up to ~1 fb-1. No signal was observed, and constraints are set on the SUSY parameter space.
We performed a signature-based search for long-lived charged massive particles (CHAMPs) produced in 1.0 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ of $\bar{p}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV, collected with the CDF II detector using a high transverse-momentum ($p_T$) muon trigger. The search used time-of-flight to isolate slowly moving, high-$p_T$ particles. One event passed our selection cuts with an expected background of $1.9 \pm 0.2$ events. We set an upper bound on the production cross section, and, interpreting this result within the context of a stable scalar top quark model, set a lower limit on the particle …
The results of the first search for long-lived gluinos produced in 7 TeV pp collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are presented. The search looks for evidence of long-lived particles that stop in the CMS detector and decay in the quiescent periods between beam crossings. In a dataset with a peak instantaneous luminosity of 10^{32} cm^{-2} s^{-1}, an integrated luminosity of 10 inverse picobarns, and a search interval corresponding to 62 hours of LHC operation, no significant excess above background was observed. Limits at the 95% confidence level on gluino pair production over 13 orders…
