We discuss a family of multi-term addition formulae for Weierstrass functions on specialized curves of genus one and two with many automorphisms. In the genus one case we find new addition formulae for the equianharmonic and lemniscate cases, and in genus two we find some new addition formulae for a number of curves, including the Burnside curve.
Rosenhain's famous formula expresses the periods of first kind integrals of genus two hyperelliptic curves in terms of $θ$-constants. In this paper we generalize the Rosenhain formula to higher genera hyperelliptic curves by means of the second Thomae formula for derivated non-singular $θ$-constants.
Determinantal formulae for Jacobian theta functions that go back to Klein are elaborated, via an idea due to Matone and Volpato. Also, the natural square roots of theta constants on the moduli space of curves whose existence was shown by Tsuyumine are proved to have a spinorial structure.
In this paper, we will give an algebraic proof for determining the sections for the universal pointed hyperelliptic curves, when $g\geq 3$ and the image of the $\ell$-adic cyclotomic character $G_k\to \Z^\times$ is infinite. Furthermore, we will study the nonabelian phenomena associated to the universal hyperelliptic curves. For example, we will show that the section conjecture holds for the universal hyperelliptic curve without marked points and the unipotent analogue of the conjecture holds for the pointed case. This work is an extension of Hain's original work to the hyperelliptic case.
For a hyperelliptic curve of genus $g$, it is well known that the symmetric products of $g$ points on the curve are expressed in terms of their Abel-Jacobi image by the hyperelliptic sigma function (Jacobi inversion formulae). Matsutani and Previato gave a natural generalization of the formulae to the more general algebraic curves defined by $y^r=f(x)$, which are special cases of $(n,s)$ curves, and derived new vanishing properties of the sigma function of the curves $y^r=f(x)$. In this paper we extend the formulae to the telescopic curves proposed by Miura and derive new vanishing properties …
We present an efficient endomorphism for the Jacobian of a curve $C$ of genus 2 (hyperelliptic) for divisors having a Non disjoint support. This extends the work of Costello and Lauter in [12] who calculated explicit formulae for divisor doubling and addition of divisors with disjoint support in $\mathbb{J}(C)$ using only base field operations. Explicit formulae is presented for this third case and a slightly different approach for divisor doubling.
A geometric algorithm is introduced for finding a symplectic basis of the first integral homology group of a compact Riemann surface, which is a $p$-cyclic covering of ${\mathbb C} P^1$ branched over 3 points. The algorithm yields a previously unknown symplectic basis of the hyperelliptic curve defined by the affine equation $w^2=z^{2g+1}-1$ for genus $g\geq 2$. We then explicitly obtain the period matrix of this curve, its entries being elements of the $(2g+1)$-st cyclotomic field. In the proof, the details of our algorithm play no significant role.
We investigate blowup formulae in Donaldson-Witten theory with gauge group SU(N), using the theory of hyperelliptic Kleinian functions. We find that the blowup function is a hyperelliptic sigma-function and we describe an explicit procedure to expand it in terms of the Casimirs of the gauge group up to arbitrary order. As a corollary, we obtain a new expression for the contact terms and we show that the correlation functions involving the exceptional divisor are governed by the KdV hierarchy. We also show that, for manifolds of simple type, the blowup function becomes a tau-function for a mult…
Given a principally polarized abelian variety $A$ of dimension $g$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p$, the $p$ torsion $A[p]$ is a finite flat $p$-torsion group scheme of rank $p^{2g}$. There are exactly $2^g$ possible group schemes that can occur as some such $A[p]$. In this paper, we study which group schemes can occur as $J[p]$, where $J$ is the Jacobian of a hyperelliptic curve defined over $\mathbb{F}_p$. We do this by computing explicit formulae for the action of Frobenius and its dual on the de Rham cohomology of a hyperelliptic curve with respect to a given ba…
Let $(G, ω)$ be a hyperelliptic vertex-weighted graph of genus $g \geq 2$. We give a characterization of $(G, ω)$ for which there exists a smooth projective curve $X$ of genus $g$ over a complete discrete valuation field with reduction graph $(G, ω)$ such that the ranks of any divisors are preserved under specialization. We explain, for a given vertex-weighted graph $(G, ω)$ in general, how the existence of such $X$ relates the Riemann--Roch formulae for $X$ and $(G, ω)$, and also how the existence of such $X$ is related to a conjecture of Caporaso.
We show that for each genus there are only finitely many algebraically primitive Teichmueller curves C, such that i) C lies in the hyperelliptic locus and ii) C is generated by an abelian differential with two zeros of order g-1. We prove moreover that for these Teichmueller curves the trace field of the affine group is not only totally real but cyclotomic.
A telescopic curve is a certain algebraic curve defined by $m-1$ equations in the affine space of dimension $m$, which can be a hyperelliptic curve and an $(n,s)$ curve as a special case. We extend the addition formulae for sigma functions of $(n,s)$ curves to those of telescopic curves. The expression of the prime form in terms of the derivative of the sigma function is also given.
M. Toda in 1967 (\textit{J. Phys. Soc. Japan}, \textbf{22} and \textbf{23}) considered a lattice model with exponential interaction and proved, as suggested by the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam experiments in the 1950s, that it has exact periodic and soliton solutions. The Toda lattice, as it came to be known, was then extensively studied as one of the completely integrable (differential-difference) non-linear equations which admit exact solutions in terms of theta functions of hyperelliptic curves. In this paper, we extend Toda's original approach to give hyperelliptic solutions of the Toda lattice in ter…
We consider multi-variable sigma function of a genus $g$ hyperelliptic curve as a function of two group of variables -jacobian variables and parameters of the curve. In the theta-functional representation of sigma-function, the second group arises as periods of first and second kind differentials of the curve. We develop representation of periods in terms of theta-constants. For the first kind periods, generalizations of Rosenhain type formulae are obtained, whilst for the second kind periods theta-constant expressions arepresented which are explicitly related to the fixed co-homology basis. We…
In this paper, the Euler characteristic formula for projective logarithmic minimal degenerations of surfaces with Kodaira dimension zero over a 1-dimensional complex disk is proved under a reasonable assumption and as its application, the singularity of logarithmic minimal degenerations are determined in the abelian or hyperelliptic case. By globalizing this local analysis of singular fibres via generalized canonical bundle formulae due to Fujino-Mori, we bound the number of singular fibres of abelian fibred Calabi-Yau threefolds from above, which was previously done by Oguiso in the potentiall…
For elliptic curves, expressions for the periods of elliptic integrals of the second kind in terms of theta-constants, have been known since the middle of the 19th century. In this paper we consider the problem of generalizing these results to curves of higher genera, in particular to a special class of algebraic curves, the so-called $(n,s)$-curves. It is shown that the representations required can be obtained by the comparison of two equivalent expressions for the projective connection, one due to Fay-Wirtinger and the other from Klein-Weierstrass. As a principle example, we consider the cas…
We develop the theory of Abelian functions associated with algebraic curves. The growth in computer power and an advancement of efficient symbolic computation techniques has allowed for recent progress in this area. In this paper we focus on the genus three cases, comparing the two canonical classes of hyperelliptic and trigonal curves. We present new addition formulae, derive bases for the spaces of Abelian functions and discuss the differential equations such functions satisfy.
We consider multiply periodic functions, sometimes called Abelian functions, defined with respect to the period matrices associated with classes of algebraic curves. We realise them as generalisations of the Weierstras P-function using two different approaches. These functions arise naturally as solutions to some of the important equations of mathematical physics and their differential equations, addition formulae, and applications have all been recent topics of study. The first approach discussed sees the functions defined as logarithmic derivatives of the sigma-function, a modified Riemann t…
We give explicitly in the closed formulae the genus zero primary potentials of the three 6-dimensional FJRW theories of the simple-elliptic singularity $\tilde E_7$ with the non-maximal symmetry groups. For each of these FJRW theories we establish the CY/LG correspondence to the Gromov-Witten theory of the orbifold $[\mathcal{E}/ (\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})]$ --- the orbifold quotient of the elliptic curve by the hyperelliptic involution. Namely, we give explicitly the Givental's group elements, whose actions on the partition function of the Gromov--Witten theory of $[\mathcal{E}/ (\mathbb{Z}/2\m…
