We consider the Hawking radiation from two regular black holes, the minimal model and the noncommutative black hole. The flux of Hawking radiation is derived by applying the anomaly cancellation method proposed by Robinson and Wilczek. Two regular black holes have the same radiation pattern except for the detailed expression for the Hawking temperature. The resulting flux of the energy-momentum tensor is shown to be precisely the same with the thermal flux from each regular black hole at the Hawking temperature.
Hawking radiation from Unruh's and Canonical acoustic black hole is considered from viewpoint of anomaly cancellation method developed by Robinson and Wilczek. Thus, the physics near the horizon can be described using an infinite collection of massless two-dimensional scalar fields in the background of a dilaton and the gravitational anomaly is canceled by the flux of a 1 + 1 dimensional blackbody at the Hawking temperature of the space-time. Consequently, by this method, we can get the Hawking's temperature for Canonical and Unruh's acoustic black hole.
We have used the results of renormalization of a two-dimensional quantum stress tensor to develop a conformally invariant dynamical model. The model requires the consideration of those conformal frames in which there exists a correspondence between the trace anomaly and a cosmological constant. We apply this model to a two dimensional-Schwarzschild (-de Sitter) spacetime to show that in these conformal frames one may achieve Hawking radiation without recourse to the trace anomaly .
Based on the idea of the work by Wilczek and his collaborators, we consider the gravitational anomaly near weekly isolated horizon. We find that there exists a universal choice of tortoise coordinate for any weakly isolated horizon. Under this coordinate, the leading behavior of a quite arbitrary scalar field near horizon is a 2-dimensional chiral scalar field. This means we can extend the idea of Wilczek and his collaborators to more general cases and show the relation between gravitational anomaly and Hawking radiation is a universal property of black hole horizon.
We discuss an ambiguity of the derivation of the Hawking radiation through the gravitational anomaly method and propose modifications of this method such that it reproduces the correct thermal fluxes. In this modified gravitational anomaly method, we employ the two-dimensional conformal field theory technique.
The role of chirality is discussed in unifying the anomaly and the tunneling formalisms for deriving the Hawking effect. Using the chirality condition and starting from the familiar form of the trace anomaly, the chiral (gravitational) anomaly, manifested as a nonconservation of the stress tensor, near the horizon of a black hole, is derived. Solution of this equation yields the stress tensor whose asymptotic infinity limit gives the Hawking flux. Finally, use of the same chirality condition in the tunneling formalism gives the Hawking temperature that is compatible with the flux obtained by a…
Recently, Banerjee and Kulkarni (R. Banerjee, S. Kulkarni, arXiv:0707.2449 [hep-th]) suggested that it is conceptually clean and economical to use only the covariant anomaly to derive Hawking radiation from a black hole. Based upon this simplified formalism, we apply the covariant anomaly cancellation method to investigate Hawking radiation from a modified Schwarzschild black hole in the theory of rainbow gravity. Hawking temperature of the gravity's rainbow black hole is derived from the energy-momentum flux by requiring it to cancel the covariant gravitational anomaly at the horizon. We stre…
In order to understand a boundary description of Hawking radiation in the AdS/CFT correspondence, we investigate the trace anomaly method in AdS$_2$ space. In this method, Hawking radiation is derived from the trace anomaly of the energy-momentum tensor in the bulk. We find a correspondence between the energy-momentum tensor and a composite operator in CFT$_1$ and understand the anomalous properties of the energy-momentum tensor in terms of this composite operator. By using this correspondence, we reproduce Hawking radiation from the boundary description. In addition, we find a correspondence …
The quantum stress tensor in the Unruh state for a conformal scalar propagating in a 4D Schwarzschild black hole spacetime is reconstructed in its leading behaviour at infinity and near the horizon by means of an effective action derived by functionally integrating the trace anomaly.
Black hole solutions in the context of a generic matter-coupled two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory are discussed both at the classical and semiclassical level. Starting from general assumptions, a criterion for the existence of black holes is given. The relationship between conformal anomaly and Hawking radiation is extended to a broad class of two-dimensional dilaton gravity models. A general and simple formula relating the magnitude of the Hawking effect to the dilaton potential evaluated on the horizon is derived.
Hawking flux from the Schwarzschild black hole with a global monopole is obtained by using Robinson and Wilczek's method. Adopting a dimension reduction technique, the effective quantum field in the (3+1)--dimensional global monopole background can be described by an infinite collection of the (1+1)--dimensional massless fields if neglecting the ingoing modes near the horizon, where the gravitational anomaly can be cancelled by the (1+1)--dimensional black body radiation at the Hawking temperature.
We investigate the classical and semiclassical features of generic 2D, matter-coupled, dilaton gravity theories. In particular, we show that the mass, the temperature and the flux of Hawking radiation associated with 2D black holes are invariant under dilaton-dependent Weyl rescalings of the metric. The relationship between quantum anomalies and Hawking radiation is discussed.
We show that the diffeomorphism anomaly together with the trace anomaly reveal a chiral Virasoro algebra near the event horizon of a black hole. This algebra is the same irrespective of whether the anomaly is covariant or consistent, thereby manifesting its universal character and the fact that only the outgoing modes are relevant near the horizon. Our analysis therefore clarifies the role of the trace anomaly in the diffeomorphism anomaly approach \cite{wilczek, isowilczek, shailesh, shailesh2, sunandan, sunandan10, rabin10} to the Hawking radiation.
The anomaly cancelation method proposed by Wilczek et al. is applied to the general charged rotating black holes in five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity. Thus Hawking temperature and fluxes are found. The Hawking temperature obtained agrees with the surface gravity formula. The black holes have charge and two unequal angular momenta and these give rise to appropriate terms in the effective U(1) gauge field of the reduced (1+1)-dimensional theory. In particular, it is found that the terms in this U(1) gauge field correspond exactly to the correct electrostatic potential and the two angu…
This paper has been withdrawn by the authors due to an incorrect statement on the viability of the Robinson-Wilczek method when applied to the case when the metric determinant vanishes at the horizon. This paper has been replaced by arXiv:0803.1338 [hep-th].
The $d$-dimensional scalar field action may be reduced, in the background geometry of a black hole, to a 2-dimensional effective action. In the near horizon region, it appears a gravitational anomaly: the energy-momentum tensor of the scalar field is not conserved anymore. This anomaly is removed by introducing a term related to the Hawking temperature of the black hole. Even if the temperature term introduced is not covariant, a gauge transformation may restore the covariance. We apply this method to compute the temperature of the black hole of the dilatonic non asymptotically flat black hole…
Using heat kernel techniques we show that the relation between Hawking temperature and radiation flux known from Einstein gravity in D dimensions can be reproduced from the spherically reduced action. A recent controversy regarding the D=2 anomaly for that case is discussed. The generalized effective Polyakov action in the presence of a dilaton field is presented.
The computation of the radiation flux related to the Hawking temperature of a Schwarzschild Black Hole or another geometric background is still well-known to be fraught with a number of delicate problems. In spherical reduction, as shown by one of the present authors (W. K.) with D.V. Vassilevich, the correct black body radiation follows when two ``basic components'' (conformal anomaly and a ``dilaton'' anomaly) are used as input in the integrated energy-momentum conservation equation. The main new element in the present work is the use of a quite different method, the covariant perturbation t…
We compute the corrections, using the tunneling formalisim based on a quantum WKB approach, to the Hawking temperature and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for the Schwarzschild black hole. The results are related to the trace anomaly and are shown to be equivalent to findings inferred from Hawking's original calculation based on path integrals using zeta function regularization. Finally, exploiting the corrected temperature and periodicity arguments we also find the modification to the original Schwarzschild metric which captures the effect of quantum corrections.
Based on the anomaly cancellation method we are going to compute the Hawking fluxes (the Hawking thermal flux and the total flux of energy-momentum tensor) from a four-dimensional rotating regular black hole with a time-delay. To this purpose, in the three metrics proposed in arXiv:1510.08828, we try to perform the dimensional reduction in which the anomaly cancellation method is feasible at the near-horizon region in a general scalar field theory. As a result we can demonstrate that the dimensional reduction is possible in two of those metrics. Hence we perform the anomaly cancellation method…
We give a higher-spin generalization of the anomaly method for the Hawking radiation from black holes. In the paper arXiv:0710.0453 higher-spin generalizations of the gauge (and gravitational) anomalies in d=2 were obtained. By applying these anomalies to black hole physics, we derive the higher moments of the Hawking fluxes. We also give a higher-spin generalization of the trace anomaly method by Christensen and Fulling.
Despite the finiteness of stress tensor for a scalar field on the four-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole in the Israel-Hartle-Hawking vacuum, the Tolman temperature in thermal equilibrium is certainly divergent on the horizon due to the infinite blueshift of the Hawking temperature. The origin of this conflict is due to the fact that the conventional Tolman temperature was based on the assumption of a traceless stress tensor, which is, however, incompatible with the presence of the trace anomaly responsible for the Hawking radiation. Here, we present an effective Tolman temperature which is…
In this paper, we show the flux of Hawking radiation in a Plebański-Demiański black hole from the point of view of gauge and gravitational anomalies. We will use the consistent anomaly method to guarantee that our results are valid in the de Sitter space. This is because we are including the cosmological constant into our parameters and the covariant anomaly method gives a wrong value for the Hawking temperature. We also show that these calculations are a general result. In order to verify the consistence of our results, we can reproduce earlier known results as certain limiting cases.
Viewing Hawking radiation as a 1D single quantum channel Landauer transport process, Nation et al calculated the energy flux and entropy flux from a Schwarzschild black hole without chemical potential. To generalize the method to the case with chemical potential, a rotating charged and non-charged BTZ black hole is investigated. Energy flux and entropy flux obtained are consistent with that from anomaly theory. The maximum energy flux and entropy flux are independent on the statistics of bosons or fermions.
Using quantum tunneling approach, we are able to derive the entropy with logarithmic term of the static spherically symmetric black hole in semi-classical Einstein equations with conformal anomaly. The results indicate that the logarithmic correction to Bekenstein-Hawking area entropy can be well explained by the self-gravitation.
Based on a regular exact black hole (BH) from nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) coupled to General Relativity, we investigate its stability of such BH through the Quasinormal Modes (QNMs) of electromagnetic (EM) field perturbation and its thermodynamics through Hawking radiation. In perturbation theory, we can deduce the effective potential from nonlinear EM field. The comparison of potential function between regular and RN BHs could predict their similar QNMs. The QNMs frequencies tell us the effect of magnetic charge $q$, overtone $n$, angular momentum number $l$ on the dynamic evolution of NL…
Generalising the method of Wilczek and collaborators we provide a derivation of Hawking radiation from charged black holes using only covariant gauge and gravitational anomalies. The reliability and universality of the anomaly cancellation approach to Hawking radiation is also discussed.
We present exact analytical black hole solutions with conformal anomaly in AdS space and discuss the thermodynamical properties of these black hole solutions. These black holes can have a positive, zero and negative constant curvature horizon, respectively. For the black hole with a positive constant curvature horizon, there exists a minimal horizon determined by the coefficient of the trace anomaly, the black hole with a smaller horizon is thermodynamically unstable, while it is stable for the case with a larger horizon. The Hawking-Page transition happens in this case. For the black hole wit…
We calculate the total flux of Hawking radiation from Kerr-(anti)de Sitter black holes by using gravitational anomaly method developed in gr-qc/0502074. We consider the general Kerr-(anti)de Sitter black holes in arbitrary $D$ dimensions with the maximal number [D/2] of independent rotating parameters. We find that the physics near the horizon can be described by an infinite collection of $(1+1)$-dimensional quantum fields coupled to a set of gauge fields with charges proportional to the azimuthal angular momentums $m_i$. With the requirement of anomaly cancellation and regularity at the horiz…
Motivated by the universality of Hawking radiation and that of the anomaly cancellation technique as well as that of the effective action method, we investigate the Hawking radiation of a Schwarzschild black hole in the isotropic coordinates via the cancellation of gravitational anomaly. After performing a dimensional reduction from the four-dimensional isotropic Schwarzschild metric, we show that this reduction procedure will, in general, result in two classes of two-dimensional effective metrics: the conformal equivalent and the inequivalent ones. For the physically equivalent class, the two…
Recently, the relation between Hawking radiation and gravitational anomalies has been used to estimate the flux of Hawking radiation for a large class of black objects. In this paper, we extend the formalism, originally proposed by Robinson and Wilczek, to the Hawking radiation of vector particles (photons). It is explicitly shown, with Hamiltonian formalism, that the theory of an electromagnetic field on d-dimensional spherical black holes reduces to one of an infinite number of massive complex scalar fields on 2-dimensional spacetime, for which the usual anomaly-cancellation method is availa…
In the presence of back reaction, we first produce the one-loop corrections for the event horizon and Hawking temperature of the Reissner-Nordström black hole. Then, based on the covariant anomaly cancelation method and the effective action technique, the modified expressions for the fluxes of gauge current and energy momentum tensor, due to the effect of back reaction, are obtained. The results are consistent with the Hawking fluxes of a (1+1)-dimensional blackbody at the temperature with quantum corrections, thus confirming the robustness of the covariant anomaly cancelation method and the e…
In this paper we combine the chirality of field theories in near horizon regions with the principle of effective theory of gravity to define a new energy-momentum tensor for the theory. This new energy-momentum tensor has the correct radiation flux to account for Hawking radiation for space-times with horizons. This method is connected to the chiral anomaly cancellation method, but it works for space-times for which the chiral anomaly cancellation method fails. In particular the method presented here works for the non-asymptotically flat de Sitter space-time and its associated Hawking-Gibbons …
The anomaly cancelation method proposed by Wilczek et al. is applied to the black holes of topologically massive gravity (TMG) and topologically massive gravito-electrodynamics (TMGE). Thus the Hawking temperature and fluxes of the ACL and ACGL black holes are found. The Hawking temperatures obtained agree with the surface gravity formula. Both black holes are rotating and this gives rise to appropriate terms in the effective U(1) gauge field of the reduced (1+1)-dimensional theory. It is found that the terms in this U(1) gauge field correspond exactly to the correct angular velocities on the …
Recently proposed 2D anomaly induced effective actions for the matter-gravity system are critically reviewed. Their failure to correctly reproduce Hawking's black hole radiation or the stability of Minkowski space-time led us to a modification of the relevant ``quantum'' matter stress energy tensor that allows physically meaningful results to be extracted.
A two-dimensional dilatonic black hole induced by a topological soliton is exactly solvable in the scalar field theory coupled to dilaton gravity. The Hawking radiation of the black hole is studied in the one-loop approximation with the help of the trace anomaly of energy-momentum tensors which is a geometrical invariant. The quantum theory can be also soluble in the RST scheme in order to consider the back reaction of the metric. The energy of the black hole system is calculated and the classical thunderpop energy corresponding to the soliton energy is needed to describe the final state of th…
The holographic principle relates (classical) gravitational waves in the bulk to quantum fluctuations and the Weyl anomaly of a conformal field theory on the boundary (the brane). One can thus argue that linear perturbations in the bulk of static black holes located on the brane be related to the Hawking flux and that (brane-world) black holes are therefore unstable. We try to gain some information on such instability from established knowledge of the Hawking radiation on the brane. In this context, the well-known trace anomaly is used as a measure of both the validity of the holographic pictu…
Recently, Hawking radiation from a Schwarzschild-type black hole via gravitational anomaly at the horizon has been derived by Robinson and Wilczek. Their result shows that, in order to demand general coordinate covariance at the quantum level to hold in the effective theory, the flux of the energy momentum tensor required to cancel gravitational anomaly at the horizon of the black hole, is exactly equal to that of (1+1)-dimensional blackbody radiation at the Hawking temperature. In this paper, we attempt to apply the analysis to derive Hawking radiation from the event horizons of static, spher…
Attempts to understand Hawking radiation as tunnelling across a black hole horizon require the consideration of singular integrals. Although Schwarzschild coordinates lead to the standard Hawking temperature, isotropic radial coordinates may appear to produce an incorrect value. It is demonstrated here how the proper regularization of singular integrals leads to the standard temperature for the isotropic radial coordinates as well as for other smooth transformations of the radial variable, which of course describe the same black hole.
We study the Hawking radiation from Rotating black holes from gravitational anomalies point of view. First, we show that the scalar field theory near the Kerr black hole horizon can be reduced to the 2-dimensional effective theory. Then, following Robinson and Wilczek, we derive the Hawking flux by requiring the cancellation of gravitational anomalies. We also apply this method to Hawking radiation from higher dimensional Myers-Perry black holes. In the Appendix, we present the trace anomaly derivation of Hawking radiation to argue the validity of the boundary condition at the horizon.
Motivated by the success of the recently proposed method of anomaly cancellation to derive Hawking fluxes from black hole horizons of spacetimes in various dimensions, we have further extended the covariant anomaly cancellation method shortly simplified by Banerjee and Kulkarni to explore the Hawking radiation of the (3+1)-dimensional charged rotating black strings and their higher dimensional extensions in anti-de Sitter spacetimes, whose horizons are not spherical but can be toroidal, cylindrical or planar, according to their global identifications. It should be emphasized that our analysis …
The trace anomaly for nonminimally coupled scalars in spherically reduced gravity obtained by Bousso and Hawking (hep-th/9705236) is incorrect. We explain the reasons for the deviations from our correct (published) result which is supported by several other recent papers.
We have studied the Hawking radiation corresponding to the NS5 and Little String Theory (LST) black hole models using two semi-classical methods: the complex path method and a gravitational anomaly. After summarizing some known concepts about the thermodynamics of these theories, we have computed the emission rates for the two black hole models. The temperature calculated from, e.g. the well-known surface gravity expression, is shown to be identical to that obtained from both the computation of the gravitational anomaly and the complex path method. Moreover, the two semi-classical methods show…
By studying the Hawking radiation of the most general static spherically symmetric black hole arising from scalar and Dirac particles tunnelling, we find the Hawking temperature is invariant in the general coordinate representation (\ref{arbitrary1}), which satisfies two conditions: a) its radial coordinate transformation is regular at the event horizon; and b) there is a time-like Killing vector.
In this work we construct several black hole metrics which are consistent with the generalized uncertainty principle logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula. After preserving the event horizon at the usual position, a singularity at the Planck scale is found. Finally, these geometries are shown to be realized by certain model of nonlinear electrodynamics, which resembles previously studied regular black hole solutions.
The conformal invariance of the Hawking temperature, conjectured for the asymptotically flat and stationary black holes by Jacobson and Kang, is semiclassically evaluated for a simple particular case of symmetrical spherically and non asymptotically flat black hole. By using the Bogoliubov coefficients, the metric euclideanization, the reflection coefficient and the gravitational anomaly, as methods of calculating the Hawking temperature, we find that it is invariant under a specific conformal transformation of the metric. We discuss briefly the results for each method.
We calculate the quantum radiation from the five dimensional charged rotating black rings by demanding the radiation to eliminate the possible anomalies on the horizons. It is shown that the temperature, energy flux and angular-momentum flux exactly coincide with those of the Hawking radiation. The black rings considered in this paper contain the Myers-Perry black hole as a limit and the quantum radiation for this black hole, obtained in the literature, is recovered in the limit. The results support the picture that the Hawking radiation can be regarded as the anomaly eliminator on horizons an…
We apply the technique of complex paths to obtain Hawking radiation in different coordinate representations of the Schwarzschild space-time. The coordinate representations we consider do not possess a singularity at the horizon unlike the standard Schwarzschild coordinate. However, the event horizon manifests itself as a singularity in the expression for the semiclassical action. This singularity is regularized by using the method of complex paths and we find that Hawking radiation is recovered in these coordinates indicating the covariance of Hawking radiation as far as these coordinates are …
In this paper, we study two different phenomena (the Newman-Janis algorithm and the semiclassical Hamilton-Jacobi method) to analyze the Hawking temperature ($T_H$) for massive $4$-dimensional regular Hayward BH with spin parameter. First of all, we compute the rotating regular Hayward black hole solution by taking the Newman-Janis algorithmic rule. We derive the $T_H$ for rotating regular Hayward BH with the help of surface gravity. We have also analyzed the effects of spin parameter $a$ and free parameter $l$ on $T_H$ with the help of graphs. Moreover, we investigate the quantum corrected Ha…
The characteristic features of $<T_{μν}>$ in the Boulware, Unruh and Hartle-Hawking states for a conformal massless scalar field propagating in the Schwarzschild space-time are obtained by means of effective actions deduced by the trace anomaly. The actions are made local by the introduction of auxiliary fields and boundary conditions are carefully imposed on them in order to select the different quantum states.
The notion of the black hole singularity and the proof of the singularity theorem were considered great successes in classical general relativity. Singularities had presented deep puzzles to physicists. Conceptual challenges were set up by the intractability of the singularity. The existence of black hole horizons which cover up the interior, including the singularity of the black hole from outside observers, builds an information curtain, further hindering physicists from understanding the nature of the singularity and the interior structure of black holes. The regular black hole is a concept…
