We show that the diffeomorphism anomaly together with the trace anomaly reveal a chiral Virasoro algebra near the event horizon of a black hole. This algebra is the same irrespective of whether the anomaly is covariant or consistent, thereby manifesting its universal character and the fact that only the outgoing modes are relevant near the horizon. Our analysis therefore clarifies the role of the trace anomaly in the diffeomorphism anomaly approach \cite{wilczek, isowilczek, shailesh, shailesh2, sunandan, sunandan10, rabin10} to the Hawking radiation.
Strominger has derived the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the BTZ black hole using asymptotic Virasoro algebra. We apply Strominger's method to a black hole solution found by Martinez and Zanelli (MZ). This is a solution of three-dimensional gravity with a conformal scalar field. The solution is not $AdS_3$, but it is asymptotically $AdS_3$; therefore, it has the asymptotic Virasoro algebra. We compute the central charge for the theory and compares Cardy's formula with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. It turns out that the functional form does agree, but the overall numerical coefficient does no…
A derivation of Noether current from the surface term of Einstein-Hilbert action is given. We show that the corresponding charge, calculated on the horizon, is related to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Also using the charge, the same entropy is found based on the Virasoro algebra and Cardy formula approach. In this approach, the relevant diffeomorphisms are found by imposing a very simple physical argument: diffeomorphisms keep the horizon structure invariant. This complements similar earlier results (arXiv:1204.1422) obtained from York-Gibbons-Hawking surface term. Finally we discuss the tec…
The Virasoro algebra determines all `graviton' matrix elements in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$. We study the explicit exchange of any number of Virasoro gravitons between heavy and light CFT$_2$ operators at large central charge. These graviton exchanges can be written in terms of new on-shell tree diagrams, organized in a perturbative expansion in $h_H/c$, the heavy operator dimension divided by the central charge. The Virasoro vacuum conformal block, which is the sum of all the tree diagrams, obeys a differential recursion relation generalizing that of the Catalan numbers. We use this recursion relation …
Probing the thermodynamic properties of the Hawking-Page phase transition of asymptotically-flat black holes in Rényi statistics. We reveal the evidence for the persisting of the dual universal formula associated with the Hawking-Page (HP) and minimum black hole thermodynamical transition points. Our study unveils the universal properties of the black holes in different statistics, in particular beyond the Gibbs-Boltzmann formalism, and motivates a further promising bridge between the nonextensivity Rényi parameter λ and the cosmological constant ? . Besides, we discover that universal ratios …
Recently, in the Einstein gravity, Majhi and Padmanabhan proposed a straightforward and transparent way in obtaining the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy by using the approach based on the Virasoro algebra and central charge. In this work, we generalize their approach to the modified gravity with higher curvature corrections and show that their approach can successfully lead to the corresponding Wald entropy in the higher curvature gravity. Our result shows that the approach is physically general.
We derive the anomalous transformation law of the quantum stress tensor for a 2D massless scalar field coupled to an external dilaton. This provides a generalization of the Virasoro anomaly which turns out to be consistent with the trace anomaly. We apply it together with the equivalence principle to compute the expectation values of the covariant quantum stress tensor on a curved background. Finally we briefly illustrate how to evaluate vacuum polarization and Hawking radiation effects from these results.
A physically consistent semi-classical treatment of black holes requires universality arguments to deal with the `trans-Planckian' problem where quantum spacetime effects appear to be amplified such that they undermine the entire semi-classical modelling framework. We evaluate three families of such arguments in comparison with Wilsonian renormalization group universality arguments found in the context of condensed matter physics. Our analysis is framed by the crucial distinction between robustness and universality. Particular emphasis is placed on the quality whereby the various arguments are…
We consider the static, spherically symmetric black hole solutions in bigravity theory for minimal model with a condition $f_{μν} = C^{2} g_{μν}$ and evaluate the entropy for black holes. In this condition, we show that there exists the Schwarzschild solution for $C^{2} = 1$, which is unique consistent solution. We examine how the massive spin-2 field contributes and affects to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy corresponding to Einstein gravity. In order to obtain the black hole entropy, we use a recently proposed approach which use Virasoro algebra and central charge corresponding to surface ter…
The universal behavior of Hawking radiation is originated in the conformal symmetries of matter fields near the black hole horizon. We explain the origin of this universality based on (1) the gravitational anomaly and its higher-spin generalizations and (2) conformal transformation properties of fluxes.
String theory usually represents quantum black holes as systems whose statistical mechanics reproduces Hawking's thermodynamics in a very satisfactory way. Complicated brane theoretical models are worked out, as quantum versions of Supergravity solutions. These models are then assumed to be in thermal equilibrium: this is a little cheating, because one is looking for an explanation of the seeming thermodynamical nature of black holes, so they cannot be {\it assumed} to be finite temperature systems! In the model presented here, the black body spectrum arises with no statistical hypothesis as a…
Locality plays a key role in the derivation of Hawking radiation. Could relaxing the locality criterion modify Hawking radiation? We consider Hawking radiation in a general class of non local quantum field theories. We prove that Hawking radiation is unmodified for these theories. Our result establishes the universality of Hawking radiation in a larger class of theories.
Generalising the method of Wilczek and collaborators we provide a derivation of Hawking radiation from charged black holes using only covariant gauge and gravitational anomalies. The reliability and universality of the anomaly cancellation approach to Hawking radiation is also discussed.
Several investigations show that in a very small length scale there exists corrections to the entropy of black hole horizon. Due to fluctuations of the background metric and the external fields the action incorporates corrections. In the low energy regime, the one loop effective action in four dimensions leads to trace anomaly. We start from the Noether current corresponding to the Einstein-Hilbert plus the one loop effective action to calculate the charge for the diffeomorphisms which preserve the Killing horizon structure. Then a bracket among the charges is calculated. We show that the Four…
We show that the gravitational phase space for the near-horizon region of a bifurcate, axisymmetric Killing horizon in any dimension admits a 2D conformal symmetry algebra with central charges proportional to the area. This extends the construction of [Haco et. al., JHEP 12, 098 (2018)] to generic Killing horizons appearing in solutions of Einstein's equations, and motivates a holographic description in terms of a 2D conformal field theory. The Cardy entropy in such a field theory agrees with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the horizon, suggesting a microscopic interpretation.
Using $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory we recover important aspects of the near-extremal thermodynamics of AdS$_5$ black holes including both the outer and the inner horizons with their corresponding entropy and energy. This $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory approach to black hole thermodynamics leads to an effective CFT$_2$ interpretation similar to the work by Callan and Maldacena. We corroborate this effective CFT$_2$ by implementing a particular near-horizon limit that geometrizes the Virasoro algebras as asymptotic symmetries. Using the effective CFT$_2$ pic…
The existence of black hole horizon is considered as a boundary condition to be imposed on the fluctuating metrics. The coordinate invariant form of the condition for class of spherically symmetric metrics is formulated. The diffeomorphisms preserving this condition act in (arbitrary small) vicinity of the horizon and form the group of conformal transformations of two-dimensional space ($r-t$ sector of the total space-time). The corresponding algebra recovered at the horizon is one copy of the Virasoro algebra. For general relativity in $d$ dimensions we find an effective two-dimensional theor…
In the context of the semiclassical treatment of Hawking radiation we prove the universality of the reduced canonical momentum for the system of a massive shell self gravitating in a spherical gravitational field within the Painlevé family of gauges. We show that one can construct modes which are regular on the horizon both by considering as hamiltonian the exterior boundary term and by using as hamiltonian the interior boundary term. The late time expansion is given in both approaches and their time Fourier expansion computed to reproduce the self reaction correction to the Hawking spectrum.
Hawking radiation is obtained from anomalies resulting from a breaking of diffeomorphism symmetry near the event horizon of a black hole. Such anomalies, manifested as a nonconservation of the energy momentum tensor, occur in two different forms -- covariant and consistent. The crucial role of covariant anomalies near the horizon is revealed since this is the {\it only} input required to obtain the Hawking flux, thereby highlighting the universality of this effect. A brief description to apply this method to obtain thermodynamic entities like entropy or temperature is provided.
Near-horizon conformal structure of a massive Schwarzschild black hole of mass M is analyzed using a scalar field as a simple probe of the background geometry. The near-horizon dynamics is governed by an operator which is related to the Virasoro algebra and admits a one-parameter family of self-adjoint extensions described by a real parameter z. When z satisfies a suitable contraint, the corresponding wavefunctions exhibit scaling behaviour in a band-like region near the horizon of the black hole. This formalism is consistent with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula and naturally produces t…
We study the thermodynamics of the near horizon of near extremal Kerr geometry (near-NHEK) within an AdS2/CFT1 correspondence. We do this by shifting the horizon by a general finite mass, which does not alter the geometry and the resulting solution is still diffeomorphic to NHEK, however it allows for a Robertson Wilczek two dimensional Kaluza-Klein reduction and the introduction of a finite regulator on the AdS2 boundary. The resulting asymptotic symmetry group of the two dimensional Kaluza-Klein reduction leads to a non-vanishing quantum conformal field theory on the respective AdS2 boundary…
We begin by explicating a recent proof of the cluster decomposition principle in AdS_{d+1} from the CFT_d bootstrap in d > 2. The CFT argument also computes the leading interactions between distant objects in AdS, and we confirm the universal agreement between the CFT bootstrap and AdS gravity in the semi-classical limit. We proceed to study the generalization to 2d CFTs, which requires knowledge of the Virasoro conformal blocks in a lightcone OPE limit. We compute these blocks in a semiclassical, large central charge approximation, and use them to prove a suitably modified theorem. In particu…
We present a generalization of the Hawking effect for dynamical trapping horizons by calculating the tunneling rate in the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. It turns out that all horizons classified by Hayward are subjected to thermal quantum effects. While the Hawking effect for future outer and past inner trapping horizons is given as a particle emission, we show that the Hawking effect for future inner and past outer trapping horizons translates to an absorption. The universality of the treatment allows a natural transfer to the static case.
We compute the asymptotic symmetry group of the four dimensional near-extremal Kerr-Sen black hole within an AdS2/CFT1 correspondence. We do this by performing a Robinson-Wilczek two dimensional reduction and construct a quantum theory of the remaining field content. The resulting energy momentum tensor generates an asymptotic Virasoro algebra, to s-wave, with a calculable central extension. This center in conjunction with the proper regularized lowest Virasoro eigen-mode yields the near-extremal Kerr-Sen entropy via the statistical Cardy formula. Finally we analyze quantum holomorphic fluxes …
We compute the full asymptotic symmetry group of black holes belonging to the same equivalence class of solutions within the Conformal Weyl Gravity formalism. We do this within an $AdS_2/CFT_1$ correspondence and by performing a Robinson-Wilczek two dimensional reduction, thus enabling the construction of an effective quantum theory of the remaining field content. The resulting energy momentum tensors generate asymptotic Virasoro algebras, to $s$-wave, with calculable central extensions. These centers in conjunction with their proper regularized lowest Virasoro eigen-modes yield the Bekenstein…
We complete the analysis carried out in previous papers by studying the Hawking radiation for a Kerr black-hole carried to infinity by fermionic currents of any spin. We find agreement with thermal spectrum of the Hawking radiation for fermionic degrees of freedom. We start by showing that the near-horizon physics for a Kerr black-hole is approximated by an effective two-dimensional field theory of fermionic fields. Then, starting from 2d currents of any spin that form a W(1+infinity) algebra, we construct an infinite set of covariant currents, each of which carry the corresponding moment of t…
We analyze the asymptotic symmetries of near extremal Kerr black holes in four dimensions using the AdS_2/CFT_1 correspondence. We find a Virasoro algebra with central charge c_R=12J that is independent from the Virasoro algebra (with the same central charge) that acts on the degenerate ground state. The energy of the excitations is computed as well, and we can use Cardy's formula to determine the near extremal entropy. Our result is consistent with the Bekenstein-Hawking area law for near extremal Kerr black holes.
Recently, exotic black holes whose masses and angular momenta are interchanged have been found, and it is known that their entropies depend only on the $inner$ horizon areas. But a basic problem of these entropies is that the second law of thermodynamics is not guaranteed, in contrast to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Here, I find that there is another entropy formula which recovers the usual Bekenstein-Hawking form, but the characteristic angular velocity and temperature are identified with those of the inner horizon, in order to satisfy the first law of black hole thermodynamics. The temper…
Motivated by the universality of Hawking radiation and that of the anomaly cancellation technique as well as that of the effective action method, we investigate the Hawking radiation of a Schwarzschild black hole in the isotropic coordinates via the cancellation of gravitational anomaly. After performing a dimensional reduction from the four-dimensional isotropic Schwarzschild metric, we show that this reduction procedure will, in general, result in two classes of two-dimensional effective metrics: the conformal equivalent and the inequivalent ones. For the physically equivalent class, the two…
We construct a 2-dimensional CFT, in the form of a Liouville theory, in the near horizon limit of 4- and 3-dimensional black holes. The near horizon CFT assumes 2-dimensional black hole solutions first introduced by Christensen and Fulling and expanded to a greater class of black holes via Robinson and Wilczek. The 2-dimensional black holes admit a Diff($S^1$) subalgebra, which upon quantization in the horizon limit becomes Virasoro with calculable central charge. This charge and lowest Virasoro eigen-mode reproduce the correct Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the 4- and 3-dimensional black holes…
Near an event horizon, the action of general relativity acquires a new asymptotic conformal symmetry. Using two-dimensional dilaton gravity as a test case, I show that this symmetry results in a chiral Virasoro algebra with a calculable classical central charge, and that Cardy's formula for the density of states reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. This result lends support to the notion that the universal nature of black hole entropy is controlled by conformal symmetry near the horizon.
Unitarization of black hole evaporation requires that quantum information escapes a black hole; an important question is to identify the mechanism or channel by which it does so. Accurate counting of black hole states via the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy would indicate this information should be encoded in radiation with average energy flux matching Hawking's. Information can be encoded with no change in net flux via fine-grained modulation of the Hawking radiation. In an approximate effective field theory description, couplings to the stress tensor of the black hole atmosphere that depend on th…
The Hawking radiation spectrum of Kerr-Sen axion-dilaton black holes is derived, in the context of dark spinors tunnelling across the horizon. Since a black hole has a well defined temperature, it should radiate in principle all the standard model particles, similar to a black body at that temperature. We investigate the tunnelling of mass dimension one spin-1/2 dark fermions, that are beyond the standard model and are prime candidates to the dark matter. Their interactions with the standard model matter and gauge fields are suppressed by at least one power of unification scale, being restrict…
We develop an efficient recursive method to evaluate the tachyon potential using the relevant universal subalgebra of the open string star algebra. This method, using off-shell versions of Virasoro Ward identities, avoids explicit computation of conformal transformations of operators and does not require a choice of background. We illustrate the procedure with a pedagogic computation of the level six tachyon potential in an arbitrary gauge, and the evaluation of a few simple star products. We give a background independent construction of the so-called identity of the star algebra, and show how…
We present a one-function family of solutions to 4D vacuum Einstein equations. While all diffeomorphic to the same extremal Kerr black hole, they are labeled by well-defined conserved charges and are hence distinct geometries. We show that this family of solutions forms a phase space the symplectic structure of which is invariant under a $U(1)$ Kac-Moody algebra generated by currents $\mathbb{J}_n$ and Virasoro generators $\mathbb{L}_n$ with central charge six times angular momentum of the black hole. This symmetry algebra is well-defined everywhere in the spacetime, near the horizon or in the…
The near extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes in arbitrary dimensions ca be modeled by the Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) theory. The asymptotic Virasoro symmetry of the corresponding JT model exactly reproduces, via Cardy's formula, the deviation of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the Reissner-Nordstrom black holes from extremality. We also comment how can we extend this approach to investigate the evaporation process.
From first principles, I present a concrete realization of Carlip's idea on the black hole entropy from the conformal field theory on the horizon in any dimension. New formulation is free of inconsistencies encountered in Carlip's. By considering a correct gravity action, whose variational principle is well defined at the horizon, I $derive$ a correct $classical$ Virasoro generator for the surface deformations at the horizon through the canonical method. The existence of the classical Virasoro algebra is crucial in obtaining an operator Virasoro algebra, through canonical quantization, which p…
In a recent paper (arXiv:1410.0694) Zilhão, Cardoso, Herdeiro, Lehner, and Sperhake have studied the nonlinear stability of Kerr-Newman black holes. We show that their numerical results for the time evolutions of the spacetime deformations of near-extremal Kerr-Newman black holes are described extremely well by a {\it universal} formula for the quasinormal resonances of the black holes. This formula is expressed in terms of the black-hole physical parameters: the horizon angular velocity $Ω_{\text{H}}$ and the Bekenstein-Hawking temperature $T_{\text{BH}}$.
We study the thermodynamics of near horizon near extremal Kerr (NHNEK) geometry within the framework of $AdS_2/CFT_1$ correspondence. We start by shifting the horizon of near horizon extremal Kerr (NHEK) geometry by a general finite mass. While this shift does not alter the geometry in that the resulting classical solution is still diffeomorphic to the NHEK solution, it does lead to a quantum theory different from that of NHEK. We obtain this quantum theory by means of a Robinson-Wilczek two-dimensional Kaluza-Klein reduction which enables us to introduce a finite regulator on the $AdS_2$ boun…
We extend the investigation of the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence to large classes of rotating black hole solutions in gauged and ungauged supergravities. The correspondence, proposed originally for four-dimensional Kerr black holes, asserts that the quantum states in the near-horizon region of an extremal rotating black hole are holographically dual to a two-dimensional chiral theory whose Virasoro algebra arises as an asymptotic symmetry of the near-horizon geometry. In fact in dimension D there are [(D-1)/2] commuting Virasoro algebras. We consider a general canonical class of ne…
In a recent work, Unruh showed that Hawking radiation is unaffected by a truncation of free field theory at the Planck scale. His analysis was performed numerically and based on a hydrodynamical model. In this work, by analytical methods, the mathematical and physical origin of Unruh's result is revealed. An alternative truncation scheme which may be more appropriate for black hole physics is proposed and analyzed. In both schemes the thermal Hawking radiation remains unaffected even though transplanckian energies no longer appear. The universality of this result is explained by working in mom…
The low-temperature thermodynamics of near-extremal rotating black holes has recently been revisited to incorporate one-loop contributions that are dominant in this regime. We discuss these quantum corrections to the gravitational path integral for asymptotically Anti de-Sitter black holes in four and five dimensions. In four dimensions we explicitly consider Kerr-AdS$_4$, Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ and the rotating black hole in ${\cal N}=4$ gauged supergravity with two scalars and two electric charges turned on. In five dimensions we explicitly address the asymptotically flat Myers-Perry black hole…
We use the conformal bootstrap equations to study the non-perturbative gravitational scattering between infalling and outgoing particles in the vicinity of a black hole horizon in AdS. We focus on irrational 2D CFTs with large $c$ and only Virasoro symmetry. The scattering process is described by the matrix element of two light operators (particles) between two heavy states (BTZ black holes). We find that the operator algebra in this regime is (i) universal and identical to that of Liouville CFT, and (ii) takes the form of an exchange algebra, specified by an R-matrix that exactly matches with…
We calculate the density of states of the 2+1 dimensional BTZ black hole in the micro- and grand-canonical ensembles. Our starting point is the relation between 2+1 dimensional quantum gravity and quantised Chern-Simons theory. In the micro-canonical ensemble, we find the Bekenstein--Hawking entropy by relating a Kac-Moody algebra of global gauge charges to a Virasoro algebra with a classical central charge via a twisted Sugawara construction. This construction is valid at all values of the black hole radius. At infinity it gives the asymptotic isometries of the black hole, and at the horizon …
We systematically calculate the quantum extremal surface (QES) associated with Hawking radiation for general $D$-dimensional ($D\geq2$) asymptotically flat (or AdS) eternal black holes using the island formula. We collect the Hawking radiation particles by a non-gravitational bath and find that a QES exists in the near-horizon region outside the black hole when $c\cdot G_{(D)}$ is smaller enough where $c$ is the central charge of the conformal matter and $G_{(D)}$ the $D$-dimensional Newton constant. The locations of the QES in these backgrounds are obtained and the late-time radiation entropy…
We study P-V criticality of black holes in Lovelock gravities in the context of horizon thermodynamics. The corresponding first law of horizon thermodynamics emerges as one of the Einstein-Lovelock equations and assumes the universal (independent of matter content) form dE=TdS-PdV, where P is identified with the total pressure of all matter in the spacetime (including a cosmological constant Lambda if present). We compare this approach to recent advances in extended phase space thermodynamics of asymptotically AdS black holes where the "standard" first law of black hole thermodynamics is exten…
It was proposed recently that the near-horizon states of an extremal four-dimensional Kerr black hole could be identified with a certain chiral conformal field theory whose Virasoro algebra arises as an asymptotic symmetry algebra of the near-horizon Kerr geometry. Supportive evidence for the proposed duality came from the equality of the microscopic entropy of the CFT, calculated by means of the Cardy formula, and the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the extremal Kerr black hole. In this paper we examine the proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence in a broader context. In particular, we show that the m…
Nontrivial diffeomorphisms act on the horizon of a generic 4D black holes and create distinguishing features referred to as soft hair. Amongst these are a left-right pair of Virasoro algebras with associated charges that reproduce the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for Kerr black holes. In this paper we show that if one adds a negative cosmological constant, there is a similar set of infinitesimal diffeomorphisms that act non-trivially on the horizon. The algebra of these diffeomorphisms gives rise to a central charge. Adding a boundary counterterm, justified to achieve integrability, leads to wel…
The asymptotic symmetries of the near-horizon geometry of a lifted (near-extremal) Reissner-Nordstrom black hole, obtained by inverting the Kaluza-Klein reduction, explain the deviation of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy from extremality. We point out the fact that the extra dimension allows us to justify the use of a Virasoro mode decomposition along the time-like boundary of the near-horizon geometry, AdS$_2\times$S$^n$, of the lower-dimensional (Reissner-Nordstrom) spacetime.
The dynamical scaling of quantum critical systems in thermal equilibrium may be inherited in the driven steady-state, leading to universal out-of-equilibrium behaviour. This attractive notion has been demonstrated in just a few cases. We demonstrate how holography - a mapping between the quantum critical system and a gravity dual - provides an illuminating perspective and new results. Non-trivial out-of-equilibrium universality is particularly apparent in current noise, which is dual to Hawking radiation in the gravitational system. We calculate this in a 2-dimensional system driven by a stron…
We show that the near horizon regime of a Kerr-Newman-$AdS$ (KN$AdS$) black hole, given by its two dimensional analogue $a la$ Robinson and Wilczek (2005 Phys. Rev. Lett. 95 011303), is asymptotically $AdS_2$ and dual to a one dimensional quantum conformal field theory (CFT). The s-wave contribution of the resulting CFT's energy-momentum-tensor together with the asymptotic symmetries, generate a centrally extended Virasoro algebra, whose central charge reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy via Cardy's Formula. Our derived central charge also agrees with the near extremal Kerr/CFT Correspon…
We consider non-equilibrium quantum steady states in conformal field theory (CFT) on star-graph configurations, with a particular, simple connection condition at the vertex of the graph. These steady states occur after a large time as a result of initially thermalizing the legs of the graph at different temperatures, and carry energy flows. Using purely Virasoro algebraic calculations we evaluate the exact long-time cumulant generating function for these flows. We show that this function satisfies a generalization of the usual non-equilibrium fluctuation relations. This extends the results by …
For many years researchers have tried to glean hints about quantum gravity from black hole thermodynamics. However, black hole thermodynamics suffers from the problem of Universality --- at leading order, several approaches with different microscopic degrees of freedom lead to Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. We attempt to bypass this issue by using a minimal statistical mechanical model for the horizon fluid based on Damour-Navier-Stokes (DNS) equation. For stationary asymptotically flat black hole spacetimes in General Relativity, we show explicitly that at equilibrium the entropy of the horizon …
The Kerr/CFT correspondence is a holographic duality between a two dimensional chiral conformal field theory (CFT) and the very near horizon limit of an extremal black hole, which includes an AdS2 structure. To understand the dual chiral CFT2, we apply the Kerr/CFT correspondence to a certain class of black holes embedded in string theory, which include the D1-D5-P and the BMPV black holes, and obtain the correct entropies for the black holes microscopically. These have an AdS3 structure in the near horizon geometry and an AdS2 structure in the very near horizon geometry. We identified one of …
