We consider a generalization of the Ruelle theorem for the case of continuous time problems. We present a result which we believe is important for future use in problems in Mathematical Physics related to $C^*$-Algebras We consider a finite state set $S$ and a stationary continuous time Markov Chain $X_t$, $t\geq 0$, taking values on S. We denote by $Ω$ the set of paths $w$ taking values on S (the elements $w$ are locally constant with left and right limits and are also right continuous on $t$). We consider an infinitesimal generator $L$ and a stationary vector $p_0$. We denote by $P$ the associated probability on ($Ω, {\cal B}$). This is the a priori probability. All functions $f$ we consider bellow are in the set ${\cal L}^\infty (P)$. From the probability $P$ we define a Ruelle operator ${\cal L}^t, t\geq 0$, acting on functions $f:Ω\to \mathbb{R}$ of ${\cal L}^\infty (P)$. Given $V:Ω\to \mathbb{R}$, such that is constant in sets of the form $\{X_0=c\}$, we define a modified Ruelle operator $\tilde{\cal L}_V^t, t\geq 0$. We are able to show the existence of an eigenfunction $u$ and an eigen-probability $ν_V$ on $Ω$ associated to $\tilde{\cal L}^t_V, t\geq 0$. We also show the following property for the probability $ν_V$: for any integrable $g\in {\cal L}^\infty (P)$ and any real and positive $t$ $$ \int e^{-\int_0^t (V \circ Θ_s)(.) ds} [ (\tilde{\cal L}^t_V (g)) \circ θ_t ] d ν_V = \int g d ν_V$$ This equation generalize, for the continuous time Markov Chain, a similar one for discrete time systems (and which is quite important for understanding the KMS states of certain $C^*$-algebras).
We study discrete flow equivalence of two-sided topological Markov shifts by using extended Ruelle algebras. We characterize flow equivalence of two-sided topological Markov shifts in terms of conjugacy of certain actions weighted by ceiling functions of two-dimensional torus on the stabilized extended Ruelle algebras for the Markov shifts.
We prove a complex Ruelle-Perron-Frobenius theorem for Markov shifts over an infinite alphabet, whence extending results by M. Pollicott from the finite to the infinite alphabet setting. As an application we obtain an extension of renewal theory in symbolic dynamics, as developed by S. P. Lalley and in the sequel generalised by the second author, now covering the infinite alphabet case.
We will characterize topologically conjugate two-sided topological Markov shifts $(\bar{X}_A,\barσ_A)$ in terms of the associated asymptotic Ruelle $C^*$-algebras ${\mathcal{R}}_A$ with its commutative $C^*$-subalgebras $C(\bar{X}_A)$ and the canonical circle actions. We will also show that extended Ruelle algebras ${\widetilde{\mathcal{R}}}_A$, which are purely infinite version of the asymptotic Ruelle algebras, with its commutative $C^*$-subalgebras $C(\bar{X}_A)$ and the canonical torus actions $γ^A$ are complete invariants for topological conjugacy of two-sided topological Markov shifts. We study the spectrum of transfer operators associated to various dynamical systems. Our aim is to obtain precise information on the discrete spectrum. To this end we propose a unitary approach. We consider various settings where new information can be obtained following different branches along the proposed path. These settings include affine expanding Markov maps, uniformly expanding Markov maps, non-uniformly expanding or simply monotone maps, hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. We believe this approach could be greatly generalized.
Consider a compact metric space $(M, d_M)$ and $X = M^{\mathbb{N}}$. We prove a Ruelle's Perron Frobenius Theorem for a class of compact subshifts with Markovian structure introduced in [Bull. Braz. Math. Soc. 45 (2014), pp. 53-72] which are defined from a continuous function $A : M \times M \to \mathbb{R}$ that determines the set of admissible sequences. In particular, this class of subshifts includes the finite Markov shifts and models where the alphabet is given by the unit circle $S^1$. Using the involution Kernel, we characterize the normalized eigenfunction of the Ruelle operator associa…
Transfer operators and Ruelle zeta functions for super-continuous functions on one-sided topological Markov shifts are considered. For every super-continuous function, we construct a Banach space on which the associated transfer operator is compact. Using this Banach space, we establish the trace formula and spectral representation of Ruelle zeta functions for a certain class of super-continuous functions. Our results include, as a special case, the classical trace formula and spectral representation for the class of locally constant functions.
We introduce a relative notion of the 'big images and preimages'-property for random topological Markov chains. This then implies that a relative version of the Ruelle-Perron-Frobenius theorem holds with respect to summable and locally Hoelder continuous potentials.
Given a zero-one matrix A we consider certain one-parameter groups of automorphisms of the Cuntz-Krieger algebra O_A, generalizing the usual gauge group, and depending on a positive continuous function H defined on the Markov space Σ_A. The main result consists of an application of Ruelle's Perron-Frobenius Theorem to show that these automorphism groups admit a single KMS state.
Through this paper we analyze the ergodic properties of continuous time Markov chains with values on the one-dimensional spin lattice 1,...,d}^N (also known as the Bernoulli space). Initially, we consider as the infinitesimal generator the operator $L={\mc L}_A -I$, where \mc L_A is a discrete time Ruelle operator (transfer operator), and A:{1,...,d}^N \to R is a given fixed Lipschitz function. The associated continuous time stationary Markov chain will define the\emph{a priori}probability. Given a Lipschitz interaction V:\{1,...,d\}^{\bb N}\to \mathbb{R}, we are interested in Gibbs (equilibri…

We introduce an harmonic analysis for iterated function systems (IFS) (X, mu) which is based on a Markov process on certain paths. The probabilities are determined by a weight function W on X. From W we define a transition operator R_W acting on functions on X, and a corresponding class of R_W-harmonic functions. The properties of these functions determine the spectral theory of L^2(mu). For affine IFSs we establish orthogonal bases in L^2(mu). These bases are generated by paths with infinite repetition of finite words. We use this in the last section to analyze tiles in R^d.
We consider processes which are functions of finite-state Markov chains. It is well known that such processes are rarely Markov. However, such processes are often regular in the following sense: the distant past values of the process have diminishing influence on the distribution of the present value. In the present paper, we present novel sufficient conditions for regularity of functions of Markov chains.
It is shown that irreducible two-state continuous-time Markov chains interacting on a network in a bilinear fashion have a unique stable steady state. The proof is elementary and uses the relative entropy function.
We find that Markov chains with finite state space are Poincare chaotic. Moreover, finite realizations of the chains are arcs of each unpredictable orbit for sure. An illustrating example with a proper numerical simulation is provided.
We consider the natural definition of DLR measure in the setting of $σ$-finite measures on countable Markov shifts. We prove that the set of DLR measures contains the set of conformal measures associated with Walters potentials. In the BIP case, or when the potential normalizes the Ruelle's operator, we prove that the notions of DLR and conformal coincide. On the standard renewal shift, we study the problem of describing the cases when the set of the eigenmeasures jumps from finite to infinite measures when we consider high and low temperatures, respectively. For this particular shift, we prov…
We employ techniques from optimal transport in order to prove decay of transfer operators associated to iterated functions systems and expanding maps, giving rise to a new proof without requiring a Doeblin-Fortet (or Lasota-Yorke) inequality. Our main result is the following. Suppose $T$ is an expanding transformation acting on a compact metric space $M$ and $A: M \to \mathbb{R}$ a given fixed H{ö}lder function, and denote by $L$ the Ruelle operator associated to $A$. We show that if $L$ is normalized (i.e. if $L(1)=1$), then the dual transfer operator $L^*$ is an exponential contraction on th…
We consider topological Markov chains (also called Markov shifts) on countable graphs. We show that a transient graph can be extended to a recurrent graph of equal entropy which is either positive recurrent of null recurrent, and we give an example of each type. We extend the notion of local entropy to topological Markov chains and prove that a transitive Markov chain admits a measure of maximal entropy (or maximal measure) whenever its local entropy is less than its (global) entropy.
This project is going to work with one example of stochastic matrix to understand how Markov chains evolve and how to use them to make faster and better decisions only looking to the present state of the system.
We apply coupling techniques in order to prove that the transfer operators associated with random topological Markov chains and non-stationary shift spaces with the big images and preimages-property have a spectral gap.
