We report remarkable multiferroic effects in polycrystalline Bi2Fe4O9. High-resolution X-ray diffraction shows that this compound has orthorhombic structure. Magnetic measurements confirm an antiferromagnetic transition around 260 K. A pronounced inverse S-shape anomaly in the loss tangent of dielectric measurement is observed near the Neel temperature. This feature shifts with the application of magnetic field. These anomalies are indicative of substantial coupling between the electric and magnetic orders in this compound.
We report room temperature giant baro-resistance ($\approx$128\%) in $Fe_{49}(Rh_{0.93}Pd_{0.07})_{51}$. With the application of external pressure and magnetic field the temperature range of giant baro-resistance ($\approx$600\% at 5K and 19.9 kbar and 8 Tesla) and magnetoresistance ($\approx$-85\% at 5K and 8 tesla) can be tuned from 5 K to well above room temperature. As the AFM state is stabilized at room temperature under external pressure, it shows giant room temperature magnetoresistance ($\approx$-55\%) with magnetic field. Due to coupled magnetic and latticel changes, the isothermal ch…
Magnetic phase transitions in multiferroic bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) induced by magnetic field, epitaxial strain, and composition modification are considered. These transitions from a spatially modulated spin spiral state to a homogenous antiferromagnetic one are accompanied by the release of latent magnetization and a linear magnetoelectric effect that makes BiFeO3-based materials efficient room-temperature single phase multiferroics.
Magnetic entropy and adiabatic temperature changes in and above the room-temperature region has been measured for La0.7Sr0.3Mn1-xM'xO3 (M' = Al, Ti) by means of magnetization and heat capacity measurements in magnetic fields up to 6 T. The magnetocaloric effect becomes largest at the ferromagnetic ordering temperature Tc that is tuned to ~300 K by the substitution of Al or Ti for Mn. While the substitution of Al for Mn drastically reduces the entropy change, it extends considerably the working temperature span and improves the relative cooling power. The magnetocaloric effect seems to be only …
In this paper we report an enhanced temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) close to room temperature in La0.7Ca0.3-xBaxMnO3 + Agy (x = 0.10, 0.15 and y = 0.0 to 0.40) (LCBMO+Ag) composite manganites. The observed enhancement of TCR is attributed to the grain growth and opening of new conducting channels in the composites. Ag addition has also been found to enhance intra-granular magneto-resistance. Inter-granular MR, however, is seen to decrease with Ag addition. The enhanced TCR and MR at / near room temperature open up the possibility of the use of such materials as infrared bolometric …
We report on the functionalization of multiferroic BiFeO3 epitaxial films for spintronics. A first example is provided by the use of ultrathin layers of BiFeO3 as tunnel barriers in magnetic tunnel junctions with La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 and Co electrodes. In such structures, a positive tunnel magnetoresistance up to 30% is obtained at low temperature. A second example is the exploitation of the antiferromagnetic spin structure of a BiFeO3 film to induce a sizeable (~60 Oe) exchange bias on a ferromagnetic film of CoFeB, at room temperature. Remarkably, the exchange bias effect is robust upon magnetic f…
Magneto-resistive and magneto-caloric properties of polycrystalline Pr2/3Sr1/3MnO3 have been studied as a function of sintering temperature (Ts) between 1260-1450°C. Reitveld refinement of their X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns confirms their single phase crystalline structure with orthorhombic Pbnm space group. The point of maximum value of temperature coefficient of resistance (TCRmax) and Curie temperature (Tc) decreased slightly with Ts. Magneto-resistance (MR) and magnetic entropy (ΔSM) increased markedly with sintering temperature. This could be attributed to the observed sharpness of bo…
We have investigated magnetization(M), magnetocaloric effect(MCE) and magnetothermopower(MTEP) in polycrystalline Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3, which shows a second-order paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition near room temperature (TC = 305 K). However, field-cooled M(T) within the long range ferromagnetic state shows an abrupt decrease at TS = 86 K for H < 3 T. The low temperature transition is first-order in nature as suggested by the hysteresis in M(T) and exothermic/endothermic peaks in differential thermal analysis for cooling and warming cycles. The anomaly at TS is attributed to a structural trans…
The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of Ga1-xCMn3+x have been investigated. Reversible magnetocaloric effect (MCE) occurs near the Curie temperature TC. The magnetic entropy change decreases with increasing x, though TC and magnetization increases. Meanwhile, the temperature span of vs. T plot becomes well broadened with x. Due to the competition between the broadening temperature span and decreasing, the relative cooling power (RCP) increases initially, and then decreases with increasing x. The largest RCP (2.1 J/cm3, under 45 kOe) observed when x=0.07 (TC = 296.5 K) is comparable to th…
Magnetoelectric compounds with the general formula, Bi0.9-xRxLa0.1FeO3 (R =Gd, Tb, Dy, etc.), have been synthesized. These show the coexistence of ferroelectricity and magnetism, possess high dielectric constant and exhibit magnetoelectric coupling at room temperature. Such materials may be of great significance in basic as well as applied research.
The polycrystalline samples of LaGa1-xMnxO3 (0<x<0.3) has been prepared by solid state reaction route. The phase purity of these samples has been confirmed by powder x-ray diffraction experiments carried out on BL-12 at Indus-2 synchrotron radiation source. The sample with x=0.2 shows significant change in the value of capacitance with the application of magnetic field. The observed results were understood by systematically analyzing magneto-capacitance (MC), magneto resistance (MR) and dielectric loss as a function of frequency. Our results and analysis suggests that the observed magneto diel…
Room temperature local magnetoresistance in two-terminal scheme is reported. By employing 1.6 nm-thick MgO tunnel barrier, spin injection efficiency is increased, resulting in large non-local magnetoresistance. The magnitude of the non-local magnetoresistance is estimated to be 0.0057 ohm at room temperature. As a result, a clear rectangle signal is observed in local magnetoresistance measurement even at room temperature. We also investigate the origin of local magnetoresistance by measuring the spin accumulation voltage of each contact separately.

Single-phase multiferroic materials are usually considered useless because of the weak magnetoelectric effects, low operating temperature, and small electric polarization induced by magnetic orders. As a result, current studies on applications of the magnetoelectric effects are mainly focusing on multiferroic heterostructures and composites. Here we report a room-temperature giant effect in response to external magnetic fields in single-phase multiferroics. A low magnetic field of 1000 Oe applied on the spin-driven multiferroic hexaferrites BaSrCo2Fe11AlO22 and Ba0.9Sr1.1Co2Fe11AlO22 is able t…
The coexistence of ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties at room temperature is very rarely observed. We have been successful in converting ferroelectric PbTiO3 into a magnetoelectric material by partly substituting Fe at the Ti site. The Pb(Fe1-xTix)O3 system exhibits ferroelectric and ferromagnetic ordering at room temperature. Even more remarkably, our results demonstrate a coupling between the two order parameters. Hence it could be a futuristic material to provide cost effective and simple path for designing novel electromagnetic devices.
We report an observation of room temperature magnetodielectric (RTMD) effect in Mn doped LaGaO3. Results of frequency dependent magnetoresistance (FDMR) measurements discards the possibility of any magnetoresistive contribution in the observed MD effect. The intrinsic nature of MD coupling has been validated/evidenced by means of magnetic field dependent Raman spectroscopy and explained in terms of modified volume strain governed by magnetic field induced rerotation of spin coupled Mn-orbitals. Ultimately, present RTMD effect is attributed to magneto-compression/magnetostriction associated wit…
We have studied the effect of magnetic field on a non-stoichiometric Heusler alloy Ni$_{50}$Mn$_{35}$In$_{15}$ that undergoes a martensitic as well as a magnetic transition near room temperature. Temperature dependent magnetization measurements demonstrate the influence of magnetic field on the structural phase transition temperature. From the study of magnetization as a function of applied field, we show the occurrence of inverse-magnetocaloric effect associated with this magneto-structural transition. The magnetic entropy change attains a value as high as 25 J/kg-K (at 5 T field) at room tem…
We investigate the magnetocaloric effect (MCE), relative cooling power (RCP) and crystalline structure in Sb substituted CrTe_{1-x}Sb_{x} (0 \leq x \leq 0.2) alloy. The Rietveld refinement of the XRD pattern of CrTe1-xSbx showed the emerging of pure hexagonal NiAs structure with P63/mmc (194) space group with increasing Sb substitution. We detect a slight increase in the basal plane a-lattice parameter, with a much larger reduction in the c-axis. Magnetic isotherms were measured in the temperature range of 50-400K. The results revealed an increase in the maximum entropy change |S_{M}(T,H)| wit…
A magnetoactive elastomer (MAE) consisting of single-domain La0.8Ag0.2Mn1.2O3 nanoparticles with a Curie temperature close to room temperature (TC = 308 K) in a silicone matrix has been prepared and comprehensively studied. It has been found that at room temperature and above, MAE particles are magnetized superparamagnetically with a low coercivity below 10 Oe, and the influence of magnetic anisotropy on the appearance of a torque is justified. A coupling between magnetization and magnetoelasticity has been also established. The mechanisms of the appearance of magnetoelasticity, including the …
We report a giant magnetocaloric effect near room temperature in an off-stoichiometric Mn-Co-Ge alloy, across the magnetostructural transition. The isothermal entropy change accompanying this transition has a peak value of nearly 40 J/kg-K near 297 K and a refrigerant capacity of 270 J/kg with the hot end at 302.5 K and cold end at 293.5 K. We also present an experimental protocol to avoid spurious peaks in the magnetocaloric effect across a sharp first order magnetostructural transition, not confined to Mn-Co-Ge alone, where metastability during the transition could influence the measured mag…
We report the observation of large magnetocaloric effect near room temperature in antipervoskite SnCMn3. The maximal magnetic entropy change at the first-order ferrimagnetic-paramagnetic transition temperature (TC 279 K) is about 80.69mJ/cm3 K and 133mJ/cm3 K under the magnetic field of 20 kOe and 48 kOe, respectively. These values are close to those of typical magnetocaloric materials. The large magnetocaloric effect is associated with the sharp change of lattice, resistivity and magnetization in the vicinity of TC. Through the measurements of Seebeck coefficient and normal Hall effect, the t…
We studied the magnetic properties of bulk LaCrO3; a GdFeO3-type distorted perovskite, with a predominant antiferromagnetic phase transition at ~ 290 K. The bulk LaCrO3 exhibits intrinsic weak ferromagnetism at room temperature, which may arise due to the tilting of CrO6 octahedra, resulting in a non-zero net magnetic moment, as confirmed from the magnetization measurements. A broad magnetically-induced entropy change (-ΔS) is observed with the maximum at 290 K, close to room temperature in LaCrO3 system.
The amazing possibility of magnetoelectric crystals to cross couple electric and magnetic properties without the need of time-dependent Maxwell's equations has attracted a lot of interest in material science. This enthusiasm has re-emerged during the last decade where magnetoelectric and multiferroic crystals have captivated a tremendous number of studies, mostly driven by the quest of low-power-consumption spintronic devices. While several new candidates have been discovered, the desirable magnetoelectric coupling at room temperature is still sparse and calls for new promising candidates. Her…
In the vicinity of their resonance frequency, piezoelectric resonators are highly sensitive to small perturbations. The present report is focussed on the magnetic field as a perturbation source. First, magneto-dielectric modulation of more than 10% is achieved at room temperature on both ferroelectric single crystals and quartz discs. Since such piezoelectric resonators are now available as membranes directly integrated on Silicon wafer, we have checked the magneto-dielectric modulation in such resonators. We show here for the first time that a moderate magnetic field of 2.104 Oersteds is able…
Experiments have been performed to measure magnetoelectric properties of room temperature spirally ordered Sr3Co2Fe24O41 hexaferrite slabs. The measured properties include the magnetic permeability, the magnetization and the strain all as a function of the electric field E and the magnetic intensity H. The material hexaferrite Sr3Co2Fe24O41 exhibits broken symmetries for both time reversal and parity. The product of the two symmetries remains unbroken. This is the central feature of these magnetoelectric materials. A simple physical model is proposed to explain the magnetoelectric effect in th…
We demonstrate room temperature ferroelectricity in the epitaxial thin films of magnetoelectric GaFeO3. Piezo-force measurements show a 180o phase shift of piezoresponse upon switching the electric field indicating nanoscale ferroelectricity in epitaxial thin films of gallium ferrite. Further, temperature dependent impedance analysis with and without the presence of an external magnetic field clearly reveals a pronounced magneto-dielectric effect across the magnetic transition temperature. In addition, our first principles calculations show that Fe ions are not only responsible for ferrimagnet…
Recently, van der Waals (vdW) magnetic heterostructures have received increasing research attention in spintronics. However, the lack of room-temperature magnetic order of vdW material has largely impedes its development in practical spintronics devices. Inspired by the recently discovered vdW ferromagnet Fe3GaTe2, which has been shown to have magnetic order above room temperature and sizable perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, we investigate the basic electronic structure and magnetic properties of Fe3GaTe2 as well as tunneling magnetoresistance effect in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) with …
Magnetotransport properties in a nanocrystalline La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$MnO$_{3}$/micron sized Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ granular composite with different concentrations of Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ have been studied. The resistivity curves in absence of magnetic field and the various transport mechanisms which might account for the upturn in resistivity at low temperature, has been discussed. Enhancement of low field magnetoresistance at room temperature with the introduction of Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ has been observed.
Discovering materials that display a linear magnetoelectric effect at room temperature is challenge. Such materials could facilitate novel devices based on the electric-field control of magnetism. Here we present simple, chemically intuitive design rules to identify a new class of bulk magnetoelectric materials based on the 'bicolor' layering of $Pnma$ ferrite perovskites, e.g., LaFeO$_3$/ LnFeO$_3$ superlattices for which Ln = lanthanide cation. We use first-principles density-functional theory calculations to confirm these ideas. Additionally, we elucidate the origin of this effect and show …
Bulk magnetodielectric composites with a 3/0 configuration comprising of ferroelectric/magnetostrictive phases have been synthesized using Sr0.5Ba0.5NbO6 / CoCr0.4Fe1.6O4 as the two constituents respectively. The ferroelectric phase made by a dual stage sintering process has a uniform grain size of 15 microns while the magnetostrictive phase has a grain size of 2 to 3 microns. Composites synthesized by conventional solid state processing using these two constituents exhibits large magnetodielectric coupling at room temperature which increases with increasing magnetic field. The composite with …
In this paper, magnetoelectric effects of Sr Z-type hexaferrite, Sr3Fe24Co2O41, at room temperature is measured. The change in remanence magnetization was measured by applying a DC voltage or electric field across a slab of hexaferrite. Changes of ~ 18% in remanence was observed in an electric field of 10,000V/cm implying a similar change in the microwave permeability at frequencies below 3GHz. In these types of measurements high resistivity is critical in order to reduce current flow in the hexaferrite. The resistivity of the hexaferrite was raised to 4.28x10^8 ohm?-cm by annealing under oxyg…
We demonstrate room-temperature ferromagnetism with in-plane magnetic anisotropy in thin flakes of the CrTe$_2$ van der Waals ferromagnet. Using quantitative magnetic imaging with a single spin magnetometer based on a nitrogen-vacancy defect in diamond, we infer a room-temperature in-plane magnetization in the range of $M\sim 27$ kA/m for flakes with thicknesses down to $20$ nm. In addition, our measurements indicate that the orientation of the magnetization is not determined solely by shape anisotropy in micron-sized CrTe$_2$ flakes, which suggest the existence of a non-negligible magnetocrys…
We report on the discovery of a large, room temperature magnetoresistance (MR) effect in polyfluorene sandwich devices in weak magnetic fields. We characterize this effect and discuss its dependence on voltage, temperature, film thickness, electrode materials, and (unintentional) impurity concentration. We usually observed negative MR, but positive MR can also be achieved under high applied electric fields. The MR effect reaches up to 10% at fields of 10mT at room temperature. The effect shows only a weak temperature dependence and is independent of the sign and direction of the magnetic field…
The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of polycrystalline La0.70(Ca0.30-xSrx)MnO3:Ag 10% manganite have been investigated. All the compositions are crystallized in single phase orthorhombic Pbnm space group. Both, the Insulator-Metal transition temperature (TIM) and Curie temperature (Tc) are observed at 298 K for x = 0.10 composition. Though both TIM and Tc are nearly unchanged with Ag addition, the MR is slightly improved. The MR at 300 K is found to be as large as 31% with magnetic field change of 1Tesla, whereas it reaches up to 49% at magnetic field of 3Tesla for La0.70Ca0.20Sr0.10MnO…
The magnetoresistance (MR) effect is widely employed in technologies that pervade our world from magnetic reading heads to sensors. Diverse contributions to MR, such as anisotropic, giant, tunnel, colossal, and spin-Hall, are revealed in materials depending on the specific system and measuring configuration. Half-metallic manganites hold promise for spintronic applications but the complexity of competing interactions has not permitted the understanding and control of their magnetotransport properties to enable the realization of their technological potential. Here we report on the ability to i…
The metal-insulator transition temperature in CMR manganites has been altered and brought close to the room temperature by preparing La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$MnO$_{3}$ (LSMO)/ Nd$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$MnO$_{3}$ (NSMO) multilayers with ultra thin individual layers of LSMO and NSMO. The LSMO/NSMO multilayers with ultra thin individual layers of thickness of about $10Å$ exhibits 150% magnetoresistance at 270 K whereas LSMO/NSMO multilayers with moderate individual layer thickness of about $40Å$ each exhibits a mere 15% magnetoresistance at the same temperature. We have shown that the reduction in thick…
We report magnetic, dielectric and magnetodielectric responses of pure monoclinic bulk phase of partially-disordered La2NiMnO6, exhibiting a spectrum of unusual properties and establish that this system intrinsically is a true multiglass with a large magnetodielectric coupling (8-20%) over a wide range of temperatures (150 - 300 K). Specifically, our results establish a unique way to obtain colossal magnetodielectricity, independent of any striction effects, by engineering the asymmetric hopping contribution to the dielectric constant via the tuning of the relative spin orientations between ne…
We report the successful fabrication of lateral organic spin valves with a channel length in the sub $100\,nm$ regime. The fabication process is based on in-situ shadow evaporation under UHV conditions and therefore yields clean and oxygen-free interfaces between the ferromagnetic metallic electrodes and the organic semiconductor. The spin valve devices consist of Nickel and Cobalt-iron electrodes and the high mobility \emph{n}-type organic semiconductor $N,N'$-bis(heptafluorobutyl)-$3,4:9,10$-perylene diimide. Our studies comprise fundamental investigations of the process' and materials' suit…
Magnetite (Fe3O4) based tunnel junctions with turret/mesa structure have been investigated for different barrier materials (SrTiO3, NdGaO3, MgO, SiO2, and Al2O(3-x)). Junctions with a Ni counter electrode and an aluminium oxide barrier showed reproducibly a tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) effect at room temperature of up to 5% with almost ideal switching behavior. This number only partially reflects the intrinsic high spin polarization of Fe3O4. It is considerably decreased due to an additional series resistance within the junction. Only SiO2 and Al2O(3-x) barriers provide magnetically decou…
Polycrystalline CrTe1-xSex samples were prepared using the conventional solid-state reaction technique and characterized by x-rad diffraction, temperature- and field- dependent magnetization for possible use in magnetocaloric cooling. Rietveld refinement revealed two phases in all prepared samples; a minor monoclinic phase that decreases with Se concentration until it vanishes near 10% of Se, and a major hexagonal one. At high temperature, CrTe1-xSex is paramagnetic, with ferromagnetic phase transition occurs at Tc ~332, 320, 318, 310, 299, and 295 K for x= 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, and 0.…
The sol-gel prepared (1-x) Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3- (x) CaMnO3 (x=0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.12) compositions show a Rhombohedral (R3c) phase for x=0.06 while a mixed Rhombohedral (R3c) and orthorhombic (Pnma) phases for the x=0.12. The lattice volume consistently decreased with an increase in the CaMnO3 content. The phase transition temperature (Tc) decreased with an increase in the CaMnO3 compositions. The room temperature dielectric constant increased, and loss decreased for the x=0.03 composition due to a decrease in the oxygen vacancy and Bi loss confirmed by the valence state study (XPS). All the compositi…
We present a thorough study on the magnetoanisotropic properties and magnetocaloric effect in the layered ferromagnetic Cr$_4$Te$_5$ single crystals by performing the critical behaviour analysis of magnetization isotherms. The critical exponents $β$=0.485(3), $γ$=1.202(5), and $δ$=3.52(3) with a Curie temperature of $T_C \approx 340.73(4)$ K are determined by the modified Arrott plots. We observe a large magnetocrystalline anisotropy K$_u$=330 kJ/$m^3$ at 3 K which gradually decreases with increasing temperature. Maximum entropy change -$ΔS_{M}^{max}$ and the relative cooling power (RCP) are f…
Caloric responses (temperature changes) can be induced in solid-state materials by applying external stimuli such as stress, pressure, and electric and magnetic fields. The magnetic-field-stimulated response is called the magnetocaloric effect, and materials that exhibit this property have long been sought for applications in room temperature magnetic cooling due to their potentially superior efficiency and low impact on the environment. Other solid-state caloric phenomena are less developed, but are likewise under intense investigation. Here we introduce a new material that not only displays …
Here we report the optimized magneto-transport properties of polycrystalline La0.70Ca0.3-xSrxMnO3 and their composites with Ag. The optimization was carried out by varying the Sr and Ag contents simultaneously to achieve large temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) as well as low field magneto-resistance (MR) at room temperature. Sharpest paramagnetic (PM)-ferromagnetic (FM) and insulator-metal (IM) transition is observed in the vicinity of the room temperature (TC=300 K=TIM) for the composition La0.70Ca0.20Sr00.10MnO3:Ag0.20. Partial substitution of larger Sr2+ ions at the Ca2+ ions site…
We report giant magnetoresistance up to 150 percent at low bias current and low temperature as well as room temperature magnetoresistance in polymeric spin-valves having the structure LSMO/conjugated polymer/Co. The conjugated polymers, regiorandom and regioregular P3HT were used as the spacer materials. We observed an asymmetric bias voltage dependence of different devices and additional, hitherto unseen, peaks in MR vs. magnetic field plot with low bias currents measurements that we attribute to local magnetic moments due to spin-trapping in the defects in the spacer material. Also, various …
The possibility to control the magnetic properties of a material with an electric field at room temperature is highly desirable for modern applications. Moreover, a coupling between magnetic and electric orders within a single material presenting a wide range of exceptional physical properties, such as bismuth iron garnet (BIG), may lead to great advances in the field of spintronic applications. In particular, the combination of the magnetoelectric (ME) coupling with the low damping of spin waves in BIG can allow the control and manipulation of spin waves by an electric field in magnonic devic…
Giant magnetocaloric effect is widely achieved in hexagonal MnMX-based (M = Co or Ni, X = Si or Ge) ferromagnets at their first-order magnetostructural transition. However, the thermal hysteresis and the low sensitivity of the magnetostructural transition to the magnetic field inevitably lead to a sizeable irreversibility of the low-field magnetocaloric effect. In this work, we show an alternative way to realize a reversible low-field magnetocaloric effect in MnMX-based alloys by taking advantage of the second-order phase transition. With introducing Cu into Co in MnCoGe alloy, the martensitic…
Spintronics exploits the magnetoresistance effects to store or sense the magnetic information. Since the magnetoresistance strictly depends on the magnetic anisotropy of the system, it is fundamental to set a defined anisotropy to the system. Here, we investigate by means of vectorial Magneto-Optical Kerr Magnetometry (v-MOKE), half-metallic La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) thin films that exhibit at room temperature pure biaxial magnetic anisotropy if grown onto MgO (001) substrate with a thin SrTiO3 (STO) buffer. In this way, we can avoid unwanted uniaxial magnetic anisotropy contributions that may b…
To augment the magnetoresistance (MR) ratio of n-type non-degenerate Si-based lateral spin valves (Si-LSVs), we modify the doping profile in the Si layer and introduce a larger local strain into the Si channel by changing a capping insulator. The highest MR ratio of 1.4% is achieved in the Si-LSVs through these improvements, with significant roles played by a reduction in the resistance-area product of the ferromagnetic contacts and an enhancement of the momentum relaxation time in the Si channel.
Voltage control of magnetism through electric field-induced oxygen motion (magneto-ionics) could represent a significant breakthrough in the pursuit for new strategies to enhance energy efficiency in a large variety of magnetic devices, such as magnetic micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), magnetic logics, spin electronics, or neuromorphic computing, i.e., envisaging ultra-low power emulation of the biological synapse. Boosting the induced changes in magnetization, magneto-ionic motion and cyclability (endurance) continue to be key challenges to turn magneto-ionic phenomena into real appli…
The giant transverse magnetoresistance is observed in the case of photoinduced nonequilibrium carriers in an asymmetric undoped system of three GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells at room temperature. In a magnetic field of 75 kOe, the resistance of nanostructure being studied increases by a factor of 1.85. The magnetoresistance depends quadratically on the magnetic field in low fields and tends to saturation in high fields. This phenomenon is attributed to the rearrangement of the electron wave function in magnetic field. Using the fact that the incoherent part of the scattering probability for electro…
The mixed spinel, MgFe2O4 has been synthesized by ball-milling assisted sintering method. X-ray diffraction study confirms formation of cubic MgFe2O4 and the lattice parameter values calculated are a = b = c = 8.369(3) Å. Vibrating sample magnetometer measurements at room temperature shows a soft ferrimagnetic nature. Magneto-Dielectric and Magneto-Restive plots confirm coupling at room temperature in the prepared MgFe2O4. The peak at 500 Oe in the MD plot is due to the canting of Fe3+ ions distributed in octahedral and tetrahedral sites.
We have observed the magnetoelectric response at room temperature and above in high-resistive ceramics made of multiferroic Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 (PFN) and PFN-based solid solution 0.91PFN-0.09PbTiO3 (PFN-PT). The value of the paramagnetoelectric (PME) coefficient shows a pronounced maximum near the ferroelectric-to-paraelectric phase transition temperature, T_C, and then decreases sharply to zero for T>T_C. The maximal PME coefficient in PFN is about 4x10(-18) s/A. The theoretical description of the PME effect, within the framework of a Landau theory of phase transitions allowing for realistic tem…
A ferromagnetic semiconductor, rutile (Ti,Co)O2, exhibits anomalous Hall effect at room temperature. Strong dependence of the anomalous Hall effect, as well as the magneto-optic response, on the carrier concentration suggests carrier induced ferromagnetism in this compound. Both ferromagnetic responses are caused by the charge carriers at the band edge of host semiconductor, indicating possibilities of spintronics devices operable at room temperature.
