We use the numerical renormalization group method (NRG) to investigate a single-impurity Anderson model with a coupling of the impurity to a superconducting host. Analysis of the energy flow shows, in contrast to previous belief, that NRG iterations can be performed up to a large number of sites, corresponding to energy differences far below the superconducting gap. This allows us to calculate the impurity spectral function very accurately for frequencies near the gap edge, and to resolve, in a certain parameter regime, sharp peaks in the spectral function close to the gap edge.
A theory is developed to study shot noise in superconducting (SAS) and hybrid (SAN) junctions with singly occupied Anderson impurity (A) as a weak link. The zero-frequency DC component of the shot noise spectral density is calculated at zero temperature as a function of the bias at different Coulomb repulsion strengths U, and show a remarkable structure resulting from combination of electron-electron interaction and Andreev reflections.
Employing a quantum Monte Carlo simulation we find a pairing instability in the normal state of the infinite dimensional periodic Anderson model. Superconductivity arises from a normal state in which the screening is protracted and which is clearly not a Fermi liquid. The phase diagram is reentrant reflecting competition between superconductivity and Fermi liquid formation. The estimated superconducting order parameter is even, but has nodes as a function of frequency. This opens the possibility of a temporal node and an effective order parameter composed of charge pairs and spin excitations.
We study the non-local superconducting pairing of two interacting Anderson impurities, which has an instability near the quantum critical point from the competition between the Kondo effect and an antiferromagnetic inter-impurity spin exchange interaction. As revealed by the dynamics over the whole energy range, the superconducting pairing fluctuations acquire considerable strength from an energy scale much higher than the characteristic spin fluctuation scale while the low energy behaviors follow those of the staggered spin susceptibility. We argue that the glue to the superconducting pairing…
The aspect of the quasiparticle interaction of a local Fermi liquid, the impurity version of f$^2$-based heavy fermions, is studied by the Wilson numerical renormalization group method. In particular, the case of the f$^2$-singlet crystalline-electric-field ground state is investigated assuming the case of UPt$_3$ with the hexagonal symmetry. It is found that the interorbital interaction becomes larger than the intraorbital one in contrast to the case of the bare Coulomb interaction for the parameters relevant to UPt$_3$. This result offers us a basis to construct a microscopic theory of the s…
We present an alternative functional renormalization group (fRG) approach to the single-impurity Anderson model at finite temperatures. Starting with the exact self-energy and interaction vertex of a small system ('core') containing a correlated site, we switch on the hybridization with a non-interacting bath in the fRG-flow and calculate spectra of the correlated site. Different truncations of the RG-flow-equations and choices of the core are compared and discussed. Furthermore we calculate the linear conductance and the magnetic susceptibility as functions of temperature and interaction stre…
We present a comprehensive study of the spectral and transport properties in the Anderson--Holstein model both in and out of equilibrium using the functional renormalization group (FRG). We show how the previously established machinery of Matsubara and Keldysh FRG can be extended to include the local phonon mode. Based on the analysis of spectral properties in equilibrium we identify different regimes depending on the strength of the electron--phonon interaction and the frequency of the phonon mode. We supplement these considerations with analytical results from the Kondo model. We also calcul…
We show that the functional renormalization group is a numerically cheap method to obtain the low-energy behavior of the Anderson impurity model describing a localized interacting electron coupled to a bath of conduction electrons. Our approach uses an external magnetic field as flow parameter, partial bosonization of the transverse spin fluctuations, and frequency-independent interaction vertices which are fixed by Ward identities. We calculate the quasi-particle residue and the spin susceptibility in the particle-hole symmetric case and obtain excellent agreement with the Bethe ansatz result…
We apply the unbiased weak-coupling continuous time quantum Monte Carlo (CTQMC) method to review the physics of a single magnetic impurity coupled to s-wave superconducting leads described by the BCS reduced Hamiltonian. As a function of the superconducting gap $Δ$, we study the signature of the first order transition between the singlet and doublet (local moment) states on various quantities. In particular we concentrate on the Josephson current with 0 to $π$ phase shift, the crossing of the Andreev bound states in the single particle spectral function, as well as the local dynamical spin str…
We present numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations for a single-impurity Anderson model with a linear coupling to a local phonon mode. We calculate dynamical response functions, spectral densities, dynamic charge and spin susceptibilities. Being non-perturbative, the NRG is applicable for all parameter regimes. Our calculations cover both weak and strong electron-phonon coupling for zero and finite electron-electron interaction. We interpret the high- and low-energy features and compare our results to atomic limit calculations and perturbation theory. In certain restricted parameter…
We use the numerical renormalization group method to study the O(3)-symmetric version of the impurity Anderson model of Coleman and Schofield. This model is of general interest because it displays both Fermi liquid and non-Fermi liquid behaviour, and in the large $U$ limit can be related to the compactified two channel Kondo model of Coleman, Ioffe and Tsvelik. We calculate the thermodynamics for a parameter range which covers the full range of behaviour of the model. We find a non-Fermi liquid fixed point in the isotropic case which is unstable with respect to channel anisotropy.
We present a new method to calculate directly the one-particle self-energy of an impurity Anderson model with Wilson's numerical Renormalization Group method by writing this quantity as the ratio of two correlation functions. This way of calculating Sigma(z) turns out to be considerably more reliable and accurate than via the impurity Green's function alone. We show results for the self-energy for the case of a constant coupling between impurity and conduction band (ImDelta = const) and the effective Delta(z) arising in the Dynamical Mean Field Theory of the Hubbard model. Implications to the …
In this paper we have explored the role of valence fluctuations in an extended Anderson impurity model (e-SIAM) in which there is an additional Hubbard repulsion between conduction and impurity electrons, employing perturbative renormalization methods. We have calculated the scaling equations for the model parameters and solved them both analytically and numerically to find how valence fluctuations renormalize these parameters. Analytical solutions of the scaling equations yielded scaling invariants of the model which we find to be different than the Anderson impurity model signifying differen…
Using functional methods and the exact renormalization group we derive Ward identities for the Anderson impurity model. In particular, we present a non-perturbative proof of the Yamada-Yosida identities relating certain coefficients in the low-energy expansion of the self-energy to thermodynamic particle number and spin susceptibilities of the impurity. Our proof underlines the relation of the Yamada-Yosida identities to the U(1) x U(1) symmetry associated with particle number and spin conservation in a magnetic field.
We show how the density-matrix numerical renormalization group (DM-NRG) method can be used in combination with non-Abelian symmetries such as SU(N), where the decomposition of the direct product of two irreducible representations requires the use of a so-called outer multiplicity label. We apply this scheme to the SU(3) symmetrical Anderson model, for which we analyze the finite size spectrum, determine local fermionic, spin, superconducting, and trion spectral functions, and also compute the temperature dependence of the conductance. Our calculations reveal a rich Fermi liquid structure.
It has been recently suggested that when an Anderson impurity is immersed in the bulk of a topological insulator, a Kondo resonant peak will appear simultaneously with an in-gap bound-state when the band-dispersion has an "inverted-Mexican-hat" form. The mid-gap bound-state generates another spin state and the Kondo effect is thereby screened. In this paper we study this problem within a weak-coupling RG scheme where we show that the system exhibits complex crossover behavior between different symmetry configurations and may evolve into a self-screened-Kondo or SO(3) low energy fix point. Expe…
Single-particle dynamics of the Anderson impurity model are studied using both the numerical renormalization group (NRG) method and the local moment approach (LMA). It is shown that a 'two-self-energy' description of dynamics inherent to the LMA, as well as a conventional 'single-self-energy' description, arise within NRG; each yielding correctly the same local single-particle spectrum. Explicit NRG results are obtained for the broken symmetry spectral constituents arising in a two-self-energy description, and the total spectrum. These are also compared to analytical results obtained from the …
We employ the periodic Anderson model with superconducting correlations in the conduction band at half filling to study the behavior of the in-gap bands in a heterostructure consisting of a molecular layer deposited on the surface of a conventional superconductor. We use the dynamical mean-field theory to map the lattice model on the superconducting single impurity model with self-consistently determined bath and use the continuous-time hybridization expansion (CT-HYB) quantum Monte Carlo and the iterative perturbation theory (IPT) as solvers for the impurity problem. We present phase diagrams…
We study the magnetic and superconducting instabilities of the periodic Anderson model with infinite Coulomb repulsion U in the random phase approximation. The Neel temperature and the superconducting critical temperature are obtained as functions of electronic density (chemical pressure) and hybridization V (pressure). It is found that close to the region where the system exhibits magnetic order the critical temperature T_c is much smaller than the Neel temperature, in qualitative agreement with some T_N/T_c ratios found for some heavy-fermion materials. In our study, all the magnetic and sup…
The impurity Green function and dynamical susceptibilties for the two-channel Anderson impurity model are calculated. An exact expression for the self-energy of the impurity Green function is derived. The imaginary part of the self-energy scales as $\sqrt{|\w/T_K|}$ for $T\to 0$ serving as a hallmark for non-Fermi behavior. The many-body resonance is pinned to a universal value $1/(2πΔ)$ at $\w=0$. Its shape becomes increasingly more symmetric for the Kondo-regimes of the model. The dynamical susceptibilities are governed by two energy scales $T_K$ and $T_h$ and approach a constant value for $…
A magnetic moment in a metal or in a quantum dot is, at low temperatures, screened by the conduction electrons through the mechanism of the Kondo effect. This gives rise to spin-spin correlations between the magnetic moment and the conduction electrons, which can have a substantial spatial extension. We study this phenomenon, the so-called Kondo cloud, by means of the density matrix renormalization group method for the case of the single-impurity Anderson model. We focus on the question whether the Kondo screening length, typically assumed to be proportional to the inverse Kondo temperature, c…
How small superconductors can be? For isolated nanoparticles subject to quantum size effects, P.W. Anderson conjectured in 1959 that superconductivity could only exist when the electronic level spacing $δ$ is smaller than the superconducting gap energy $Δ$. Here, we report a scanning tunneling spectroscopy study of superconducting lead (Pb) nanocrystals grown on the (110) surface of InAs. We find that for nanocrystals of lateral size smaller than the Fermi wavelength of the 2D electron gas at the surface of InAs, the electronic transmission of the interface is weak; this leads to Coulomb block…
We show that information on the probability density of local fluctuations can be obtained from a numerical renormalisation group calculation of a reduced density matrix. We apply this approach to the Anderson-Holstein impurity model to calculate the ground state probability density $ρ(x)$ for the displacement $x$ of the local oscillator. From this density we can deduce an effective local potential for the oscillator and compare its form with that obtained from a semiclassical approximation as a function of the coupling strength. The method is extended to infinite dimensional Holstein-Hubbard m…
We develop a functional renormalization group approach which describes the low-energy single-particle properties of the Anderson impurity model up to intermediate on-site interactions $U \lesssim 15 Δ$, where $Δ$ is the hybridization in the wide-band limit. Our method is based on a generalization of a method proposed by Schütz, Bartosch and Kopietz [Phys. Rev. B 72, 035107 (2005)], using two independent Hubbard-Stratonovich fields associated with transverse and longitudinal spin fluctuations. Although we do not reproduce the exponentially small Kondo scale in the limit $U \to \infty$, the spin…
We study the renormalization group flow of the Luttinger-Ward functional and of its two-particle irreducible vertex functions, given a cut-off in the two-particle interaction. We derive a conserving approximation to the flow and relate it to the fluctuation exchange approximation as well as to non-conserving approximations introduced in an earlier publication ctuation exchange approximation as well as to nonconserving approximations introducen [J. F. Rentrop, S. G. Jakobs, and V. Meden, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 48, 145002 (2015)]. We apply the different approximate flow equations to the single…
In this paper a recently developed projector-based renormalization method (PRM) for many-particle Hamiltonians is applied to the periodic Anderson model (PAM) with the aim to describe heavy Fermion behavior. In this method high-energetic excitation operators instead of high energetic states are eliminated. We arrive at an effective Hamiltonian for a quasi-free system which consists of two non-interacting heavy-quasiparticle bands. The resulting renormalization equations for the parameters of the Hamiltonian are valid for large as well as small degeneracy $ν_f$ of the angular momentum. An expan…
Recent developments in the numerical renormalization group (NRG) allow the construction of the full density matrix (FDM) of quantum impurity models (see A. Weichselbaum and J. von Delft) by using the completeness of the eliminated states introduced by F. B. Anders and A. Schiller (2005). While these developments prove particularly useful in the calculation of transient response and finite temperature Green's functions of quantum impurity models, they may also be used to calculate thermodynamic properties. In this paper, we assess the FDM approach to thermodynamic properties by applying it to t…
We study the symmetric Anderson-Holstein (AH) model at zero temperature with Wilson's numerical renormalization group (NRG) technique to study the interplay between the electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions. An improved method for calculating the phonon propagator using the NRG technique is presented, which turns out to be more accurate and reliable than the previous works in that it calculates the phonon renormalization explicitly and satisfies the boson sum rule better. The method is applied to calculate the renormalized phonon propagators along with the electron propagators as …
The density matrix renormalization group method is applied to obtain the ground state phase diagram of the single impurity Anderson model on the honeycomb lattice at half filling. The calculation of local static quantities shows that the phase diagram contains two distinct phases, the local moment (LM) phase and the asymmetric strong coupling (ASC) phase. These results are supported by the local spin and charge excitation spectra, which exhibit qualitatively different behavior in these two phases and also reveal the existence of the valence fluctuating point at the phase boundary. For comparis…
We formulate a general approach for studying the low-frequency response of an interacting quantum dot connected to leads in the presence of oscillating gate voltages. The energy dissipated is characterized by the charge relaxation resistance, which under the loose assumption of Fermi liquid behavior at low energy, is shown to depend only on static charge susceptibilities. The predictions of the scattering theory are recovered in the noninteracting limit while the effect of interactions is simply to replace densities of states by charge susceptibilities in formulas. In order to substantiate the…
We investigate the Josephson current J(ϕ) through a quantum dot embedded between two superconductors showing a phase difference ϕ. The system is modeled as a single Anderson impurity coupled to BCS leads, and the functional and the numerical renormalization group frameworks are employed to treat the local Coulomb interaction U. We reestablish the picture of a quantum phase transition occurring if the ratio between the Kondo temperature T_K and the superconducting energy gap Δor, at appropriate T_K/Δ, the phase difference ϕor the impurity energy is varied. We present accurate zero- as well as f…
We investigate the effect of the Coulomb interaction, $U_{cf}$, between the conduction and f electrons in the periodic Anderson model using the density-matrix renormalization-group algorithm. We calculate the excitation spectrum of the half-filled symmetric model with an emphasis on the spin and charge excitations. In the one-dimensional version of the model it is found that the spin gap is smaller than the charge gap below a certain value of $U_{cf}$ and the reversed inequality is valid for stronger $U_{cf}$. This behavior is also verified by the behavior of the spin and density correlation f…
We implement an efficient strong-disorder renormalization-group (SDRG) procedure to study disordered tight-binding models in any dimension and on the Erdos-Renyi random graphs, which represent an appropriate infinite dimensional limit. Our SDRG algorithm is based on a judicious elimination of most (irrelevant) new bonds generated under RG. It yields excellent agreement with exact numerical results for universal properties at the critical point without significant increase of computer time, and confirm that, for Anderson localization, the upper critical dimension duc = infinite. We find excelle…
Anderson Orthogonality (AO) refers to the fact that the ground states of two Fermi seas that experience different local scattering potentials, say |G_I> and |G_F>, become orthogonal in the thermodynamic limit of large particle number N, in that |<G_I|G_F>| ~ N^(- Delta_AO^2 /2) for N->infinity. We show that the numerical renormalization group (NRG) offers a simple and precise way to calculate the exponent Delta_AO: the overlap, calculated as function of Wilson chain length k, decays exponentially, ~ exp(-k alpha), and Delta_AO can be extracted directly from the exponent alpha. The results for …
We derive and apply a general scheme for mapping a setup consisting of a half-filled single level quantum dot coupled to one normal metallic and two superconducting phase-biased leads onto an ordinary half-filled single impurity Anderson model with single modified tunneling density of states. The theory allows for the otherwise unfeasible application of the standard numerical renormalization group and enables to obtain phase-dependent local spectral properties as well as phase-dependent induced pairing and Josephson current. The resulting transport properties match well with the numerically ex…
We apply a functional implementation of the field-theoretical renormalization group (RG) method up to two loops to the single-impurity Anderson model. To achieve this, we follow a RG strategy similar to that proposed by Vojta \emph{et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{85}, 4940 (2000)], which consists of defining a soft ultraviolet regulator in the space of Matsubara frequencies for the renormalized Green's function. Then we proceed to derive analytically and solve numerically integro-differential flow equations for the effective couplings and the quasiparticle weight of the present model, which …
We have measured the superconducting penetration depth~$Λ(T)$ in the heavy-fermion/intermediate-valent superconducting alloy series~Ce$_{1-x}$Yb$_x$CoIn$_5$ using transverse-field muon spin relaxation, to study the effect of intermediate-valent Yb doping on Fermi-liquid renormalization. From $Λ(T)$ we determine the superfluid density $ρ_s(T)$, and find that it decreases continuously with increasing nominal Yb concentration~$x$, i.e., with increasing intermediate valence. The temperature-dependent renormalization of the "normal" fluid density~$ρ_N(T) = ρ_s(0) - ρ_s(T)$ in both the heavy-fermion…
We present the results of a Wilson Renormalization Group study of the single-impurity Kondo and Anderson models in a system with a gap in the conduction electron spectrum. The behavior of the impurity susceptibility and the zero-frequency response function, $T<<S_z; S_z>>$ are discussed in the cases with and without particle-hole symmetry. In addition, for the asymmetric Anderson model the correlation functions, $<\vec S \cdot\vec σ(0)>$,$<n_d>$, and $<n_d(2-n_d)>$ are computed.
Phase diagrams of the two-dimensional one-band t-t' Hubbard model are obtained within the two-patch and the temperature-cutoff many-patch renormalization group approach. At small t' and at van Hove band fillings antiferromagnetism dominates, while with increasing t' or changing filling antiferromagnetism is replaced by d-wave superconductivity. Near t'=t/2 and close to van Hove band fillings the system is unstable towards ferromagnetism. Away from van Hove band fillings this ferromagnetic instability is replaced by a region with dominating triplet p-wave superconducting correlations. The resul…
We study the interplay of disorder and interaction effects including bosonic degrees of freedom in the framework of a generic one-dimensional transport model, the Anderson-Edwards model. Using the density-matrix renormalization group technique, we extract the localization length and the renormalization of the Tomonaga Luttinger liquid parameter from the charge-structure factor by a elaborate sample-average finite-size scaling procedure. The properties of the Anderson localized state can be described in terms of scaling relations of the metallic phase without disorder. We analyze how disorder c…
The symmetric Anderson impurity model, with a soft-gap hybridization vanishing at the Fermi level with power law r > 0, is studied via the numerical renormalization group (NRG). Detailed comparison is made with predictions arising from the local moment approach (LMA), a recently developed many-body theory which is found to provide a remarkably successful description of the problem. Results for the `normal' (r = 0) impurity model are obtained as a specific case. Particular emphasis is given both to single-particle excitation dynamics, and to the transition between the strong coupling (SC) and l…
We study the interplay between the Kondo and Andreev-Josephson effects in a quantum dot coupled to one normal and two superconducting (SC) leads. In the large gap limit, the low-energy states of this system can be described exactly by a local Fermi liquid for the interacting Bogoliubov particles. The phase shift and the renormalized parameters for the Bogoliubov particles vary depending on the Josephson phase between the two SC leads. We explore the precise features of a crossover that occurs between the Kondo singlet and local Cooper-pairing states as the Josephson phase varies, using the num…
The self-energy method for quantum impurity models expresses the correlation part of the self-energy in terms of the ratio of two Green's functions and allows for a more accurate calculation of equilibrium spectral functions than is possible directly from the one-particle Green's function [Bulla et al., J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 10, 8365 (1998)], for example, within the numerical renormalization group method. In addition, the self-energy itself is a central quantity required in the dynamical mean field theory of strongly correlated lattice models. Here, we show how to generalize the self-energ…

Using the functional renormalization group (FRG) and the numerical renormalization group (NRG), we calculate the spectral function of the Anderson impurity model at zero and finite temperatures. In our FRG scheme spin fluctuations are treated non-perturbatively via a suitable Hubbard-Stratonovich field, but vertex corrections are neglected. A comparison with our highly accurate NRG results shows that this FRG scheme gives a quantitatively good description of the spectral line-shape at zero and finite temperatures both in the weak and strong coupling regimes, although at zero temperature the FR…
KeldyshQFT: A C++ codebase for real-frequency multiloop functional renormalization group and parquet computations of the single-impurity Anderson model
We present the full Gutzwiller-wave-function solution of the Anderson lattice model in two dimensions that leads to the correlation-driven multigap superconducting (SC) ground state with the dominant $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave symmetry. The results are consistent with the principal properties of the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn$_5$. We regard the pairing mechanism as universal and thus applicable to other Ce-based heavy-fermion compounds. Additionally, a gain in kinetic energy in the SC state takes place, as is also the case for high-temperature superconductors.
We introduce a block Lanczos (BL) recursive technique to construct quasi-one-dimensional models, suitable for density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations, from single- as well as multiple-impurity Anderson models in any spatial dimensions. This new scheme, named BL-DMRG method, allows us to calculate not only local but also spatially dependent static and dynamical quantities of the ground state for general Anderson impurity models without losing elaborate geometrical information of the lattice. We show that the BL-DMRG method can be easily extended to treat a multi-orbital Anderso…
Thermodynamic properties are presented for four magnetic impurity models describing delocalized fermions scattering from a localized orbital at an energy-dependent rate $Γ(ε)$ which vanishes precisely at the Fermi level, $ε= 0$. Specifically, it is assumed that for small $|ε|$, $Γ(ε)\propto|ε|^r$ with $r>0$. The cases $r=1$ and $r=2$ describe dilute magnetic impurities in unconventional superconductors, ``flux phases'' of the two-dimensional electron gas, and zero-gap semiconductors. For the nondegenerate Anderson model, the depression of the low-energy scattering rate suppresses mixed valence…
The pseudogap Kondo problem, describing quantum impurities coupled to fermionic quasiparticles with a pseudogap density of states, rho(omega) ~ |omega|^r, shows a rich zero-temperature phase diagram, with different screened and free moment phases and associated transitions. We analyze both the particle-hole symmetric and asymmetric cases using renormalization group techniques. In the vicinity of r=0, which plays the role of a lower-critical dimension, an expansion in the Kondo coupling is appropriate. In contrast, r=1 is the upper-critical dimension in the absence of particle-hole symmetry, an…
Using numerical renormalization group method the temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibility $χ(T)$ and specific heat $C(T)$ are obtained in the single-impurity Anderson model with inclusion of the $d-f$ Coulomb interaction. It is shown that the exciton effects owing to this interaction can change considerably the dependence $C(T)$ in comparison with the standard Anderson model at not too low temperatures, whereas the dependence $χ(T)$ remains universal. The renormalization of the effective hybridization parameter and $f$-level position, which is connected with the $d-f$ interaction…
We report inelastic x-ray scattering experiments on the lattice dynamics in SmFeAsO and superconducting SmFeAsO$_{0.6}$F$_{0.35}$ single crystals. Particular attention was paid to the dispersions along the [100] direction of three optical modes close to 23 meV, polarized out of the FeAs planes. Remarkably, two of these modes are strongly renormalized upon fluorine doping. These results provide significant insight into the energy and momentum dependence of the coupling of the lattice to the electron system and underline the importance of spin-phonon coupling in the superconducting iron-pnictide…
The applicability of bosonization and the Anderson-Yuval (AY) approach at strong coupling is investigated by considering two generic impurity models: the multichannel interacting resonant-level and the anisotropic Kondo models. The two methods differ in the renormalization of the conduction-electron density of states (DoS) near the impurity site. Reduction of the DoS, absent in bosonization but accounted for in the AY approach, is shown to be vital in some models yet redundant in others. The criterion being the stability of the strong-coupling fixed point. Renormalization of the DoS is essenti…
A well-known result in unconventional superconductivity is the fragility of nodal superconductors against nonmagnetic impurities. Despite this common wisdom, Bi$_2$Se$_3$-based topological superconductors have recently displayed unusual robustness against disorder. Here we provide a theoretical framework which naturally explains what protects Cooper pairs from strong scattering in complex superconductors. Our analysis is based on the concept of superconducting fitness and generalizes the famous Anderson's theorem into superconductors having multiple internal degrees of freedom. For concretenes…
We analyze the ground-state energy, magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, and Kondo screening cloud of the symmetric single-impurity Anderson model (SIAM) that is characterized by the band width $W$, the impurity interaction strength $U$, and the local hybridization $V$. We compare Gutzwiller variational and magnetic Hartree-Fock results in the thermodynamic limit with numerically exact data from the Density-Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) method on large rings. To improve the DMRG performance, we use a canonical transformation to map the SIAM onto a chain with half the system size and o…
The quantitative control of the dynamic correlations of single impurity Anderson models is essential in several very active fields. We analyze the one-particle Green function with a constant energy resolution by dynamic density-matrix renormalization. In contrast to other approaches, sharp dominant resonances at high energies are found. Their origin and importance are discussed.
We study the transport through a strongly interacting Anderson quantum dot at zero-temperature using the real-time renormalization group (RT-RG) in the framework of a kinetic equation for the reduced density operator. We further develop the general finite temperature real-time transport formalism by introducing field superoperators that obey fermionic statistics. This direct second quantization in Liouville-Fock space strongly simplifies the construction of operators and superoperators which transform irreducibly under the Anderson-model symmetry transformations. The fermionic field superopera…
Self-consistent perturbation expansion up to the second order in the interaction strength is used to study a single-level quantum dot with local Coulomb repulsion attached asymmetrically to two generally different superconducting leads. At zero temperature and wide range of other parameters the spin-symmetric version of the expansion yields excellent results for the position of the $0-π$ impurity quantum phase transition boundary and Josephson current together with the energy of Andreev bound states in the $0$-phase as confirmed by numerical calculations using the Numerical Renormalisation Gro…
