We summarize the theoretical approach to the solution of the NNLO DGLAP equations using methods based on the logarithmic expansions in x-space and their implementation into the C program Candia 1.0. We present the various options implemented in the program and discuss the different solutions. The user can choose the order of the evolution, the type of the solution, which can be either exact or truncated, and the evolution either with a fixed or a varying flavor number, implemented in the varying-flavour-number scheme (VFNS). The renormalization and factorization scale dependences are treated separately. In the non-singlet sector the program implements an exact NNLO solution.
We present a set of formulas to extract two second-order independent differential equations for the gluon and singlet distribution functions. Our results extend from the LO up to NNLO DGLAP evolution equations with respect to the hard-Pomeron behavior at low-x. In this approach, both singlet quarks and gluons have the same high-energy behavior at low-x. We solve the independent DGLAP evolution equations for the functions $F^{s}_{2}(x,Q^{2})$ and $G(x,Q^{2})$ as a function of their initial parameterization at the starting scale $Q^{2}_{0}$ . The results not only give striking support to the har…
A NNLO analysis of certain logarithmic expansions, developed for precision studies of the evolution of the QCD parton distributions (pdf) at the Large Hadron Collider, is presented. We elaborate on their relations to all the solutions of the DGLAP equations that have been hitherto obtained from Mellin space, to which are equivalent. Exact expansions, equivalent to exact solutions of the equations, are constructed in the non-singlet sector. The algorithmic features of our approach are also emphasized, since this method allows to obtain numerical solutions of the evolution equations with the sam…
We present particular and unique solutions of singlet and non-singlet Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov- Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations in next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) at low-x. We obtain t-evolutions of deuteron, proton, neutron and difference and ratio of proton and neutron structure functions at low-x from DGLAP evolution equations. The results of t-evolutions are compared with HERA and NMC lox-x and low-Q2 data. We also compare our result of t-evolution of proton structure function with a recent global parameterization.
We present a comparative study of the invariant mass and rapidity distributions in Drell-Yan lepton pair production, with particular emphasis on the role played by the QCD evolution. We focus our study around the Z resonance ($50 <Q < 200$ GeV) and perform a general analysis of the factorization/renormalization scale dependence of the cross sections, with the two scales included both in the evolution and in the hard scatterings. We also present the variations of the cross sections due to the errors on the parton distributions (pdf's) and an analysis of the corresponding $K$-factors. Prediction…
We consider the effect of exact gluon kinematics in the virtual photon-gluon impact factor at small x. By comparing with fixed order DIS scheme splitting and coefficient functions, we show that the exact kinematics results match the fixed order results well at each order, which suggests that they allow for an accurate NLL analysis of proton structure functions. We also present, available for the first time, x-space parameterisations of the NNLO DGLAP splitting functions in the DIS scheme, and also the longitudinal coefficients for neutral current scattering.
A semi-numerical solution to Dokshitzer- Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations at leading order (LO), next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in the small-x limit is presented. Here we have used Taylor series expansion method to solve the evolution equations and, t- and x-evolutions of the singlet structure functions have been obtained with such solution. We have also calculated t- and x-evolutions of deuteron structure functions F_2^d, and the results are compared with the E665 data and NMC data. The results are also compared to those obtaine…
This contribution describes the HOPPET Fortran~95 package for carrying out DGLAP evolution and other common manipulations of PDFs. The PDFs are represented on a grid in $x$-space so as to avoid limitations on the functional form of input distributions. Good speed and accuracy are obtained through the representation of splitting functions in terms of their convolution with a set of piecewise polynomial basis functions. We briefly describe the structure of the code and discuss its quantitative performance. Finally we comment of future directions for the program's development.
The combined HERA data for the inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) cross sections for the momentum transfer $Q^2 > 1$ GeV$^2$ are fitted within the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) framework at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) accuracy, complemented by a QCD-inspired parameterisation of twist 4 corrections. A modified form of the input parton density functions is also included, motivated by parton saturation mechanism at small Bjorken $x$ and at a low scale. These modifications lead to a significant improvement of the data description…
We present an efficient numerical solution of the DGLAP equations for single and double parton distribution functions (PDFs and DPDs), based on the Chebyshev interpolation of these functions. For PDF evolution, our method allows for a higher numerical accuracy using a considerably smaller number of grid points compared to other methods. The DPD evolution is realized using an affordable number of grid points, and allows for two independent renormalization scales for the two partons. Both methods include NNLO DGLAP kernels and flavor matching.
New methods of solutions of the DGLAP equation and their implementation through NNLO in QCD are briefly reviewed. We organize the perturbative expansion that describes in $x$-space the evolved parton distributions in terms of scale invariant functions, which are determined recursively, and logarithms of the ratio of the running couplings at the initial and final evolution scales. Resummed solutions are constructed within the same approach and involve logarithms of more complex functions, which are given in the non-singlet case. Differences in the evolution schemes are shown to be numerically s…
In this work we have suggested a solution of the Gribov-Levin-Ryskin-Mueller-Qiu (GLR-MQ) nonlinear evolution equation at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). The range of $Q^2$ in which we have solved the GLR-MQ equation is Regge region of the range $5 GeV^2 \leq Q^2 \leq 25 GeV^2$ and so we have incorporated the Regge like behavior to obtain $Q^2$ evolution of gluon distribution function $G(x, Q^2)$. We have also checked the sensitivity of our results for different values of correlation radius (R) between two interacting gluons, viz. $R=2 GeV^{-1}$ and $R= 5 GeV^{-1}$ as well as for differe…
Presently available perturbative QCD calculations combining hard process matrix element with the Parton Shower Monte Carlo programs feature hard process matrix element calculated often beyond the leading order (LO), that is including complete next-to-leading-order (NLO), or even next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) corrections, while Parton Shower is only at the leading order (LO). We report here on a work in progress which demonstrate feasibility of constructing Parton Shower Monte Carlo (PSMC) featuring complete NLO corrections to QCD evolution with respect to the logarithm of the factorizat…
The very precise combined HERA data provides a testing ground in which the relevance of novel QCD regimes, other than the successful linear DGLAP evolution, in small-x inclusive DIS data can be ascertained. We present a study of the dependence of the AAMQS fits, based on the running coupling BK non-linear evolution equations (rcBK), on the fitted dataset. This allows for the identification of the kinematical region where rcBK accurately describes the data, and thus for the determination of its applicability boundary. We compare the rcBK results with NNLO DGLAP fits, obtained with the NNPDF met…
The forthcoming p+Pb run at the LHC will provide crucial in formation on the initial state effects of heavy ion collisions and on the gluon saturation phenomena. In turn, most of the saturation inspired phenomenology in heavy ion collisions borrows substantial empiric information from the analysis of e+p data, where abundant high quality data on the small-x kinematic region is available. Indeed, the very precise combined HERA data provides a testing ground in which the relevance of novel QCD regimes, other than the successful linear DGLAP evolution, in small-x inclusive DIS data can be ascerta…
We propose a matrix evolution equation in (x,kt)-space for flavour singlet, unintegrated quark and gluon densities, which generalizes DGLAP and BFKL equations in the relevant limits. The matrix evolution kernel is constructed so as to satisfy renormalization group constraints in both the ordered and antiordered regions of exchanged momenta kt, and incorporates the known NLO anomalous dimensions in the MSbar scheme as well as the NLx BFKL kernel. We provide a hard Pomeron exponent and effective eigenvalue functions that include the n_f-dependence, and give also the matrix of resummed DGLAP spli…
We present a phenomenological study of the small-x behaviour of gluon distribution function $G(x,Q^2)$ at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order(NNLO) in light of the nonlinear Gribov-Ryskin-Levin-Mueller-Qiu (GLR-MQ)evolution equation by keeping the transverse size of the gluons ($\sim 1/Q$) fixed. We consider the NLO and NNLO corrections, of the gluon-gluon spitting function $P_{gg} (z)$ and strong coupling constant $α_s (Q^2)$. We have suggested semi-analytical solutions based on Regge like ansatz of gluon density $G(x,Q^2)$, which are supposed to be valid in the mode…
Renormalization group evolution equations describing the scale dependence of quantities in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) play a central role in the interpretation of experimental data. Arguably the most important evolution equations for collider physics applications are the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) equations, which describe the evolution of a quark or gluon fragmenting into hadrons, with only a single hadron identified at a time. In recent years, the study of the correlations of energy flow within jets has come to play a central role at collider experiments, necessitat…
We present a detailed study of the total $p p$ cross section for scalar Higgs production to next-to-next-to leading order in $α_s$ at LHC energies, and of the $p\bar p$ cross section at the Tevatron, combining an implementation of the solutions of the parton evolution equations at the 3-loop order with the corresponding hard scatterings, evaluated at the same perturbative order. Our solutions of the DGLAP equations are implemented directly in $x$-space and allow the study of the dependence of the results on the factorization ($μ_F$) and renormalization scales $(μ_R)$ typical of a given process…
