In this paper, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for a column-weight-three LDPC code to correct three errors when decoded using Gallager A algorithm. We then provide a construction technique which results in a code satisfying the above conditions. We also provide numerical assessment of code performance via simulation results.

In this paper, we present a low-complexity joint detection-decoding algorithm for nonbinary LDPC codedmodulation systems. We introduce a novel algorithm for decoding binary linear codes by linear programming. We build on the LP decoding algorithm of Feldman et al. and introduce a post-processing step that solves a second linear program that reweights the objective function based on the outcome of the original LP decoder output. Our analysis shows that for some LDPC ensembles we can improve the provable threshold guarantees compared to standard LP decoding. We also show significant empirical performance gains for the reweighted LP decoding algorithm with very small additional computational complexity.

We consider the decoding of LDPC codes over GF(q) with the low-complexity majority algorithm from [1]. A modification of this algorithm with multiple thresholds is suggested. A lower estimate on the decoding radius realized by the new algorithm is derived. The estimate is shown to be better than the estimate for a single threshold majority decoder. A new approach for combining non-binary low-density parity-check (NB-LDPC) codes with higher-order modulation and probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) is presented. Instead of symbol-metric decoding (SMD), a bit-metric decoder (BMD) is used so that matching the field order of the non-binary code to the constellation size is not needed, which increases the flexibility of the coding scheme. In this paper, we propose an enhanced quasi-maximum likelihood (EQML) decoder for LDPC codes with short block lengths. After the failure of the conventional belief propagation (BP) decoding, the proposed EQML decoder selects unreliable variable nodes (VNs) and saturates their associated channel output values to generate a list of decoder input sequences. Each decoder input sequence in the list is then decoded by the conventional BP decoder to obtain the most likely codeword. We examine LDPC codes decoded using linear programming (LP). Four contributions to the LP framework are presented. First, a new method of tightening the LP relaxation, and thus improving the LP decoder, is proposed. Second, we present an algorithm which calculates a lower bound on the minimum distance of a specific code. This algorithm exhibits complexity which scales quadratically with the block length. In this paper, we first introduce the extended binary representation of non-binary codes, which corresponds to a covering graph of the bipartite graph associated with the non-binary code. Then we show that non-binary codewords correspond to binary codewords of the extended representation that further satisfy some simplex-constraint: that is, bits lying over the same symbol-node of the non-binary graph must form a codeword of a simplex code.
