The concept of black hole entropy is one of the most important enigmas of theoretical physics. It relates thermodynamics to gravity and allows substantial hints toward a quantum theory of gravitation. Although Bekenstein conjecture -assuming the black hole entropy to be a measure of the number of precollapse configurations- has proved to be extremely fruitful, a direct and conclusive proof is still missing. This article computes accurately the entropy evaporated by black holes in (4+n) dimensions taking into account the exact greybody factors. This is a key process to constrain and understand the entropy of black holes as the final state is unambiguously defined. Those results allow to generalize Zurek's important argument, in favor of the Bekenstein conjecture, to multi-dimensional scenarios.
We study the Hawking radiation of (4+n)-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole imbedded in the space-time with positive cosmological constant. The greybody and energy emission rates of scalars, fermions, bosons, and gravitons are calculated in the full range of energy. The valuable information on the dimensions and curvature of space-time is revealed. Furthermore, we investigate the entropy radiated and lost by black hole. We find their ratio near unit in favor of the Bekenstein's conjecture.
We study the holographic representation of the entanglement entropy, recently proposed by Ryu and Takayanagi, in a braneworld context. The holographic entanglement entropy of a de Sitter brane embedded in an anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime is evaluated using geometric quantities, and it is compared with two kinds of de Sitter entropy: a quarter of the area of the cosmological horizon on the brane and entropy calculated from the Euclidean path integral. We show that the three entropies coincide with each other in a certain limit. Remarkably, the entropy obtained from the Euclidean path integral …
We examine the deSitter entropy in the braneworld model with the Gauss-Bonnet/Lovelock terms. Then, we can see that the deSitter entropy computed through the Euclidean action exactly coincides with the holographic entanglement entropy.
The quantum creation probability and entropy of a 2-codimensional braneworld are calculated in the framework of no-boundary universe. The entropy can take an arbitrarily large value as the brane tensions increase, in violation of the conjectured "N-bound" in quantum gravity, even for a 4-dimensional ordinary universe.
We derive the Friedmann-like equations in braneworld cosmology by imposing the first law of thermodynamics and Bekenstein's area-entropy formula on the apparent horizon of a Friedmann-Roberston-Walker universe in both Randall-Sundrum II gravity and Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati gravity models. Israel's boundary condition plays an important role in our calculations in both cases, besides the first law of thermodynamics and Bekenstein's area-entropy formula. The results indicate that thermodynamics on the brane world knows the behaviors of gravity.
We investigate thermodynamic and dynamical stability of a family of six-dimensional braneworld solutions with de Sitter branes. First, we investigate thermodynamic stability in terms of de Sitter entropy. We see that the family of solutions is divided into two distinct branches: the high-entropy branch and the low-entropy branch. By analogy with ordinary thermodynamics, the high-entropy branch is expected to be stable and the low-entropy branch to be unstable. Next, we investigate dynamical stability by analyzing linear perturbations around the solutions. Perturbations are decomposed into scal…
By using the quantum tunneling approach over semiclassical approximations, we study the quantum corrections to the Hawking temperature, entropy and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy-area relation for a black hole lying on a brane.
We consider tachyonic braneworld with a bulk cosmological constant and investigate a configurational entropy of various magnitudes of scale factor. It is found that for a bulk negative/zero cosmological constant, the configurational entropy has a global minimum when the magnitude of scale factor reaches the critical value. This result seems to have intriguing implications such that an accelerated rate of the universe and cosmological inflation rate for radiation/matter domination are able to be determined by such critical value. We also find that the configurational entropy almost monotonicall…
The Bousso's D-bound entropy for the various possible black hole solutions on a 4-dimensional brane is checked. It is found that the D-bound entropy here is apparently different from that of obtained for the 4-dimensional black hole solutions. This difference is interpreted as the extra loss of information, associated to the extra dimension, when an extra-dimensional black hole is moved outward the observer's cosmological horizon. Also, it is discussed that N-bound entropy is hold for the possible solutions here. Finally, by adopting the recent Bohr-like approach to black hole quantum physics …
We investigate the validity the generalized second law of thermodynamics in a general braneworld model with curvature correction terms on the brane and in the bulk, respectively. Employing the derived entropy expression associated with the apparent horizon, we examine the time evolution of the total entropy, including the derived entropy of the apparent horizon and the entropy of the matter fields inside the apparent horizon. We show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics is fulfilled on the 3-brane embedded in the 5D spacetime with curvature corrections.
We obtain the reflected entropy for bipartite mixed state configurations of two adjacent and disjoint intervals at a finite temperature in $BCFT_2$s with two distinct boundaries through a replica technique in the large central charge limit. Subsequently these field theory results are reproduced from bulk computations involving the entanglement wedge cross section in the dual BTZ black hole geometry truncated by two Karch-Randall branes. Our result confirms the holographic duality between the reflected entropy and the bulk entanglement wedge cross section in the context of the $AdS_3/BCFT_2$ sc…
Configurational entropy has been revealed as a reliable method for constraining some parameters of a given model [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{92} (2015) 126005, Eur. Phys. J. C \textbf{76} (2016) 100]. In this letter we calculate the configurational entropy in Gauss-Bonnet braneworld models. Our results restrict the range of acceptability of the Gauss-Bonnet scalar values. In this way, the information theoretical measure in Gauss-Bonnet scenarios opens a new window to probe situations where the additional parameters, responsible for the Gauss-Bonnet sector, are arbitrary. We also show that such an ap…
We study the time evolution of entanglement entropy in expanding universes with various matters. To describe expanding universes holographically, we take into account a braneworld moving in an asymptotic AdS space involving a uniform $p$-brane gas. In the braneworld model, an observer living in the braneworld detects the bulk motion of the braneworld as an expanding universe. We show that the entanglement entropy of expanding universes increases by the volume law in the early time and by the area law in the late time. We further consider the cosmological horizon, which is the border of the vis…
A very interesting new proposal on the origin of the cosmic expansion was recently suggested by Padmanabhan [arXiv:1206.4916]. He argued that the difference between the surface degrees of freedom and the bulk degrees of freedom in a region of space drives the accelerated expansion of the universe, as well as the standard Friedmann equation through relation $% \triangle V=\triangle t(N_{\mathrm{sur}}-N_{\mathrm{bulk}})$. In this paper, we first present the general expression for the number of degrees of freedom on the holographic surface, $N_{\mathrm{sur}}$, using the general entropy corrected …
The thick brane scenario built on the f(T,B) teleparallel gravity theory was considered for the study of phase transitions, internal structures, and new classes of solutions in a model. In this theory, T denotes the torsion scalar, and B is a boundary term. An interesting result was observed when brane splitting occurs, i. e., internal structures in the model arise as a consequence of the appearance of new domain walls in the theory. In fact, this preliminary result influences the profile of the matter field (from kink to multi-kink) so that for appropriate values of the parameters $k_{1,2}$ m…
In this work, we evaluate the Shannon-like entropic measure of spatially-localized functions for a five-dimensional braneworld generated by a double sine-Gordon (DSG) potential. The differential configurational entropy (DCE) has been shown in several recent works to be a configurational informational measure (CIM) that selects critical points and brings out phase transitions in confined energy models with arbitrary parameters. We select the DSG scenario because it presents an energy-degenerate spatially localized profile where the solutions to the scalar field demonstrate critical behavior tha…
We consider a spherical region with a heavy quark in the middle. We compute the extra entanglement entropy due to the presence of a heavy quark both in ${\cal N}=4 $ Super Yang Mills and in the ${\cal N}=6$ Chern-Simons matter theory (ABJM). This is done by relating the computation to the expectation value of a circular Wilson loop and a stress tensor insertion. We also give an exact expression for the Bremsstrahlung function that determines the energy radiated by a quark in the ABJM theory.
In this paper we first obtain Friedmann equations for the $(n-1)$-dimensional brane embedded in the $(n+1)$-dimensional bulk, with intrinsic curvature term of the brane included in the action (DGP model). Then, we show that one can always rewrite the Friedmann equations in the form of the first law of thermodynamics, $dE=TdS+WdV$, at apparent horizon on the brane, regardless of whether there is the intrinsic curvature term on the brane or a cosmological constant in the bulk. Using the first law, we extract the entropy expression of the apparent horizon on the brane. We also show that in the ca…
We obtain the reflected entropy for bipartite mixed state configurations of two adjacent and disjoint subsystems at a finite temperature in finite-sized non-gravitating reservoirs described by $CFT_2$s each coupled to two quantum dots at their boundaries in the large central charge limit through a replica technique. These field theory results are substantiated through a holographic computation involving the entanglement wedge cross section in the dual bulk BTZ black hole geometry truncated by two Planck branes. The two Planck branes are the holographic duals of the quantum dots described by $A…
Entropy bounds applied to a system of N species of light quantum fields in thermal equilibrium at temperature T are saturated in four dimensions at a maximal temperature T_max=M_Planck/N^1/2. We show that the correct setup for understanding the reason for the saturation is a cosmological setup, and that a possible explanation is the copious production of black holes at this maximal temperature. The proposed explanation implies, if correct, that N light fields cannot be in thermal equilibrium at temperatures T above T_max. However, we have been unable to identify a concrete mechanism that is ef…
To understand the time-dependent quantum correlation in expanding universes, we study the time-dependent entanglement entropy in the braneworld model. If we take into account a generalized string cloud geometry caused by uniformly distributed open strings, cosmologies on the braneworld result in the standard Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker cosmologies with various matter contents. On the dual field theory side, open strings are reinterpreted as a fundamental matter, while the black hole mass corresponds to the excitation energy of massless gauge bosons. In this work, we show how the string…
We investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics on the $(n-1)$-dimensional brane embedded in the $(n+1)$-dimensional bulk. We examine the evolution of the apparent horizon entropy extracted through relation between gravitational equation and the first law of thermodynamics together with the matter field entropy inside the apparent horizon. We find that the apparent horizon entropy extracted through connection between gravity and the first law of thermodynamics satisfies the generalized second law of thermodynamics. This result holds regardless of whether there is th…
We analise braneworld scenarios via a configurational entropy (CE) formalism. Braneworld scenarios have drawn attention mainly due to the fact that they can explain the hierarchy problem and unify the fundamental forces through a symmetry breaking procedure. Those scenarios localize matter in a $(3+1)$ hypersurface, the brane, which is inserted in a higher dimensional space, the bulk. Novel analytical braneworld models, {in which the warp factor depends} on a free parameter $n$, were recently released in the literature. In this article we will provide a way to constrain this parameter through …
We study a class of topological black hole solutions in RSII braneworld scenario in the presence of a localized Maxwell field on the brane. Such a black hole can carry two types of charge, one arising from the extra dimension, the tidal charge, and the other one from a localized gauge field confined to the brane. We find that the localized charge on the brane modifies the bulk geometry and in particular the bulk Weyl tensor. The bulk geometry does not depend on different topologies of the horizons. We present the temperature and entropy expressions associated with the event horizon of the bran…
In three-dimensional de Sitter space classical black holes do not exist, and the Schwarzschild-de Sitter solution instead describes a conical defect with a single cosmological horizon. We argue that the quantum backreaction of conformal fields can generate a black hole horizon, leading to a three-dimensional quantum de Sitter black hole. Its size can be as large as the cosmological horizon in a Nariai-type limit. We show explicitly how these solutions arise using braneworld holography, but also compare to a non-holographic, perturbative analysis of backreaction due to conformally coupled scala…
Gravity is wonderful. The main goal of this thesis is to explore and discuss two aspects of gravity -- two wonders, which illustrate the richness of the theoretical gravitational landscape: braneworlds and holography. Each one of these topics is the core idea of the two parts of which the thesis consists. We begin by presenting gravity as a geometrical theory, then discuss extra dimensions and braneworld scenarios, to motivate the following derivation of the effective Einstein Field Equations on the brane. Afterward, we introduce the Randall--Sundrum model and derive the Minimal Geometric Defo…
While the linear behavior of gravity in braneworld models is well understood, much less is known about full non-linear gravitational effects. Even when they agree at the linear level, these could be expected to distinguish braneworlds from a lower-dimensional theory with no brane. Black holes are a good testing ground for such studies, as they are nonlinear solutions that would be expected to reflect the background geometry. In particular, we assess the role of black hole quasinormal modes in gravitational experiments devised to be sensitive to the existence of the brane, in a lower-dimensiona…
Hawking radiation is viewed as a tunnelling process. In this way the effect of self-gravitation gives rise to semiclassical corrections to the entropy of the (2+1) BTZ black hole. The modified entropy, due to specific modelling of the self-gravitation effect, of the (2+1) BTZ black hole is evaluated. To first order in $ω$ which is a shell of energy radiated outwards the event horizon of the BTZ black hole, modified entropy is proportional to the horizon. In this semiclassical analysis, corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking formula $S_{BH}=\mathcal{A}_{H} / 4l_{P}^{2}$ are found to be negative …
In this paper we study braneworld cosmology when the bulk space is a charged black hole in de Sitter space (Topological Reissner-Nordström de Sitter Space) in general dimension, then we compute leading order correction to the Friedmann equation that arise from logarithmic corrections to the entropy in the holographic-branworld cosmological framwork. Finally we consider the holographic entropy bounds in this senario, we show the entropy bounds are also modified by logarithmic term.
Thermodynamics of 5d SdS black hole is considered. Thermal fluctuations define the (sub-dominant) logarithmic corrections to black hole entropy and then to Cardy-Verlinde formula and to FRW brane cosmology. We demonstrate that logarithmic terms (which play the role of effective cosmological constant) change the behavior of 4d spherical brane in dS, SdS or Nariai bulk. In particularly, bounce Universe occurs or 4d dS brane expands to its maximum and then shrinks. The entropy bounds are also modified by next-to-leading terms. Out of braneworld context the logarithmic terms may suggest slight mod…

We study two-dimensional eternal black holes with non-zero mass, where each asymptotic boundary is in contact with a CFT on a circle, following the doubly holographic braneworld models constructed in [arXiv:2006.04851, arXiv:2010.00018, arXiv:2010.16398]. We compute the Page curve of the black hole (or the bath CFTs), which amounts to finding different geodesics in the bulk BTZ geometry with a Randall-Sundrum brane falling into the black hole. We also explore the possibility of including an intrinsic JT gravity action on the brane. As expected, the generalized entropy rises linearly at early t…
Large black holes in anti-de Sitter space have positive specific heat and do not evaporate. In order to mimic the behavior of evaporating black holes, one may couple the system to an external bath. In this paper we explore a rich family of such models, namely ones obtained by coupling two holographic CFTs along a shared interface (ICFTs). We focus on the limit where the bulk solution is characterized by a thin brane separating the two individual duals. These systems may be interpreted in a double holographic way, where one integrates out the bath and ends up with a lower-dimensional gravitatio…
Exact conditions on the clock parameters corresponding to the minimal uncertainty in distance measurement are derived in uniform manner for any number of space time dimensions. The result espouses the holography principle no matter what the number of space time dimensions is. In this context the ADD braneworld model is considered. Some remarks are made on deviation of holography as well as of special relativity at the scales provided by the cosmological constant. We also comment on the potential influence of the background radiation on the uncertainty in length measurement. The presence of una…
We consider the issue of information recovery for an object carrying energy and entropy into a black hole using the generalized entropy formalism, in the context of JT gravity where the backreaction problem can be solved exactly. We verify the main aspects of the Hayden-Preskill scenario but with some refinements. We show that the information is encoded in the Hawking radiation in a redundant way, as expected for a quantum error correcting code. We show how quantum extremal surfaces associated to information recovery have the form of a python's lunch and thereby show that the complexity of dec…
To test the strong-gravity regime in Randall-Sundrum braneworlds, we consider black holes bound to a brane. In a previous paper, we studied numerical solutions of localized black holes whose horizon radii are smaller than the AdS curvature radius. In this paper, we improve the numerical method and discuss properties of the six dimensional (6D) localized black holes whose horizon radii are larger than the AdS curvature radius. At a horizon temperature $\mathcal{T} \approx 1/2π\ell$, the thermodynamics of the localized black hole undergo a transition with its character changing from a 6D Schwarz…
Non-thermal correction to the emission probability of particles from black holes can be obtained if the backreaction or self-gravitational effects of the emitted particles on the black hole spacetime are taken into consideration. These non-thermally emitted particles conserve the entropy of the black hole, i.e, the entropy of the system of radiated particles after complete evaporation of the black hole matches the initial entropy of the black hole. Using the non-thermal emission probability, we have determined the probability for a black hole of mass $M$ to be completely evaporated by a given …
Since Hawking's 1974 discovery, we expect that a black hole formed by collapse will emit radiation and eventually disappear. Closely related to the information loss puzzle is the challenge to define an objective notion of physical entropy which increases throughout this process in a way consistent with unitarity. In recent years, this has been addressed with certain notions of coarse grained entropy. We have suggested instead that physical entropy should be identified with matter-gravity entanglement entropy and that this may offer an explanation of entropy increase both for the black hole col…
Using a novel numerical spectral method, we have constructed an AdS_5-CFT_4 solution to the Einstein equation with a negative cosmological constant Lambda that is asymptotically conformal to the Schwarzschild metric. This method is independent of the Ricci-DeTurck-flow method used by Figueras, Lucietti, and Wiseman. We have perturbed the solution to get large static black hole solutions to the Randall-Sundrum II (RSII) braneworld model. Our solution agrees closely with that of Figueras et al. and also allows us to deduce the new results that to first order in 1/(-Lambda M^2), the Hawking tempe…
We investigate the nonequilibrium back reaction on the Schwarzschild black hole from the radiation field. The back reactions are characterized by the membrane close to the black hole. When the membrane is thin, we found that larger temperature difference can lead to more significant negative surface tension, larger thermodynamic dissipation cost and back reaction in energy and entropy as well as larger black hole area. This may be relevant to the primordial black holes in early universe. Moreover, our nonequilibrium model can resolve the inconsistency issue of the black hole back reaction unde…
We study a holographic construction of quantum rotating BTZ black holes that incorporates the exact backreaction from strongly coupled quantum conformal fields. It is based on an exact four-dimensional solution for a black hole localized on a brane in AdS$_4$, first discussed some years ago but never fully investigated in this manner. Besides quantum CFT effects and their backreaction, we also investigate the role of higher-curvature corrections in the effective three-dimensional theory. We obtain the quantum-corrected geometry and the renormalized stress tensor. We show that the quantum black…
We study the entanglement islands and subsystem volume complexity corresponding to the left/ right entanglement of a conformal defect in $d$-dimensions in Randall-Sundrum (RS) braneworld model with subcritical tension brane. The left and right modes of the defect mimic the eternal black hole and radiation system respectively. Hence the entanglement entropy between the two follows an eternal black hole Page curve which is unitarity compatible. We compute the volumes corresponding to the left and right branes with preferred Ryu-Takanayagi (RT) surfaces at different times, which provide a probe o…
We study the AdS/BCFT duality between two-dimensional conformal field theories with two boundaries and three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space with two Karch-Randall branes. We compute the entanglement entropy of a bipartition of the BCFT, on both the gravity side and the field theory side. At finite temperature this entanglement entropy characterizes the communication between two braneworld black holes, coupled to each other through a common bath. We find a Page curve consistent with unitarity. The gravitational result, computed using double-holographically realized quantum extremal surfaces, …
We suggest a group-theoretic approach to black holes, which is remotely analogous to the eightfold-way for mesons. As the black hole symmetry group we single out the group SO(2N+1) with N the black hole entropy. The Hilbert space is identified with the spinor irrep of SO(2N+1). Evaporation processes of m-quanta are associated to the breaking SO(2N+1) to SO(2(N-m)+1) X SO(2m). Under these assumptions we get a group-theoretic understanding of the evaporation process and of some typical time scales of black holes, such as Page's and scrambling times. We also discuss from the group theory point of…
We study information retrieval from evaporating black holes, assuming that the internal dynamics of a black hole is unitary and rapidly mixing, and assuming that the retriever has unlimited control over the emitted Hawking radiation. If the evaporation of the black hole has already proceeded past the "half-way" point, where half of the initial entropy has been radiated away, then additional quantum information deposited in the black hole is revealed in the Hawking radiation very rapidly. Information deposited prior to the half-way point remains concealed until the half-way point, and then emer…
For Hawking radiation, treated as a tunneling process, the no-hair theorem of black hole together with the law of energy conservation is utilized to postulate that the tunneling rate only depends on the external qualities (e.g., the mass for the Schwarzschild black hole) and the energy of the radiated particle. This postulate is justified by the WKB approximation for calculating the tunneling probability. Based on this postulate, a general formula for the tunneling probability is derived without referring to the concrete form of black hole metric. This formula implies an intrinsic correlation …
Almheiri, Marolf, Polchinski, and Sully, recently claimed that once a black hole has radiated more than half its initial entropy (the Page time), the horizon is replaced by a "firewall" at which infalling observers burn up, in apparent violation of the equivalence principle and the postulates of black hole complementarity. In this paper I review the arguments for firewalls, and give a slightly different interpretation of them. According to this interpretation the horizon has standard properties, but the singularity is non-standard. The growing entanglement of the black hole with Hawking radiat…
We study analytically quantum tunneling of relativistic and non-relativistic particles at both Killing and universal horizons of Einstein-Maxwell-aether black holes, after high-order curvature corrections are taken into account, for which the dispersion relation of the particles becomes nonlinear. Our results at the Killing horizons confirm the previous ones, i.e., at high frequencies the corresponding radiation remains thermal and the nonlinearity of the dispersion does not alter the Hawking radiation significantly. In contrary, non-relativistic particles are created at universal horizons and…
