The measurement of heavy quark cross-sections provides important tests of the QCD theory. This paper reviews recent measurements of single b-quark and correlated b-quark cross-sections at CDF. Two new measurements of the single b-quark production at CDF agree with the first result from CDF Run II. This clarifies the experimental situation and confirms the recent agreement of theoretical prediction with data. A new measurement of the correlated $b\bar{b}$ cross-section with dimuon events at CDF is presented. It agrees with theory and it does not confirm the anomalously large $b\bar{b}$ cross-section seen in Run I by CDF and D${\not {\rm O}}$ in dimuon events.
The CDF detector at Fermilab has accumulated more that 3/fb of data which enables unprecedented studies of heavy flavor hadron properties. We present recent CDF measurements of mass and lifetime of the Bc meson as well as lifetime, mixing and CP violation properties of Bs mesons.
We present recent CDF measurements of mass, lifetime and CP violation properties of B hadrons. The analyzes presented in this paper use up to 2.8/fb of data. CDF has already accumulated close to 5/fb of data which promises significant improvements of these analyzes in the near future.
Results on physics of heavy flavour at CDF are reported. Selected measurements of Branching Ratios and CP asymmetry in $B^0$ and $B_s^0$, lifetime difference of $B^0_s$ CP eigenstates and a precise measurement of the $B_c$ mass are presented.
Results on inclusive jet production in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s) =1.96 TeV based on 1 fb-1 of CDF Run II data are presented. Measurements are preformed using the k_T algorithm in a wide range of jet transverse momentum and jet rapidity. The measured cross sections are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.
Preliminary results of ttbar cross section measurements and single top exclusion limits of the Tevatron experiments CDF and D0 are presented. The different measurements are based on a dataset between 140 and 200 inverse pb corresponding to a data taking period from spring 2002 to September 2003. The ttbar cross section measurements are consistent with each other and the Standard Model prediction. Data and Monte-Carlo prediction are in good agreement in the search for single top quark. Its observation is anticipated with roughly 2 inverse fb integrated luminosity.
We report a combination of the CDF and D0 measurements of the inclusive single top quark production cross section in the s- and t-channels in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96TeV. The total integrated luminosity included in CDF's analysis is 3.2 fb^-1 and D0's analysis has 2.3 fb^-1. A Bayesian analysis is used to extract the cross section from the distributions of multivariate discriminants provided by the collaborations. Using data collected during the 1992-93 collider run at Fermilab, CDF has made measurements of correlated $b$ quark cross section where one $b$ is detected via a muon from semileptonic decay and the second $b$ is detected with secondary vertex techniques. We present a measurement of the isolated direct photon cross section in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV and |eta| < 0.9 using data collected between 1994 and 1995 by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The measurement is based on events where the photon converts into an electron-positron pair in the material of the inner detector, resulting in a two-track event signature. Recent measurements of jet and multijet production cross sections from ppbar collisions recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) are summarized. First Run II results of the inclusive one jet cross section at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV as well as prospects for future extensions of this measurement are presented. We also studied the properties of three-jet events in Run Ib data at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. All results are compared to predictions of Quantum Chromodynamics at next-to-leading order perturbation theory.
With growing datasets collected by the CDF II experiment, studies of the spectroscopy of mesons containing heavy quarks become more exciting. The CDF experiment has good capabilities in both charm and bottom sector. This capability allowed also to contribute to the study of the zoo of states called X,Y,Z. Measurements of the ttbar production cross-section at \sqrt{s} = 1.96TeV in proton-antiproton collisions were performed by the CDF and Dzero collaborations using ttbar final states where both W's decay hadronically. Each experiment uses luminosity of about 160pb^-1 of data collected during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Beside kinematical observables both experiments take advantage of identifying b-jets based on lifetime tagging. We present the first exclusive observation of the ttbar to hadronic tau + jets decay channel. Using these events from 1.96 TeV ppbar collisions at CDF, we measure the ttbar cross section as well as the top quark mass. Events require a single hadronic tau, large missing transverse energy, and exactly 4 jets of which at least one must be tagged as a b jet. The cross section measurement is extracted from a Poisson likelihood function based on the observed number of events and the predicted number of signal and background events for a given ttbar cross section. We present recent top physics results in the CDF including updates of top mass, \ttbar cross section, single top search, forward-backward asymmetry, and the differential cross section of \ttbar. Most of measurements utilize close to the integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$.
Hadron colliders can be an abundant source of heavy flavor quarks, but pose a challenge to isolate the physics signals from the high backgrounds. The upgraded CDF II detector, with its precise tracking capabilities and powerful trigger system, is well equipped for this task. The detector is described with an emphasis on actual performance and on techniques to maximize the heavy flavor yield. Some first heavy flavor results are summarized.
Recent jet results in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=1.96 TeV from the CDF experiment at the Tevatron are presented. The jet inclusive cross section is compared to next-to-leading order QCD prediction in different rapidity regions. The $b$-jet inclusive cross section is measured exploiting the long lifetime and large mass of $B$-hadrons. Jet shapes, W+jets and W/Z+photon cross sections are also measured and compared to expectations from QCD production.
We report two complementary measurements of the WW+WZ cross section in the final state consisting of an electron or muon, missing transverse energy, and jets, performed using p\bar{p} collision data at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector. The first method uses the dijet invariant mass distribution while the second more sensitive method uses matrix-element calculations. The result from the second method has a signal significance of 5.4 sigma and is the first observation of WW+WZ production using this signature. For data collected with the CDF Run II detector, measurements of the charm and bottom production cross-sections are presented. The results are based both on large samples of fully reconstructed hadron decay products of charm and bottom made available by the tracking triggers and on a calorimeter jet triggered sample tagged by the presence of a secondary vertex. The experimental data are compared with theoretical predictions from recent next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD calculations.
We report on measurements of the Upsilon(1S), Upsilon(2S) and Upsilon(3S) differential and integrated cross sections in pp(bar) collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV. The three resonances were reconstructed through the decay Upsilon-->mu(+)mu(-). The cross section measurements are compared to theoretical models of direct bottomonium production.

A measurement of the cross section for the inclusive production of isolated photons by the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider is presented. The measurement covers the pseudorapidity region |eta^gamma|<1.0 and the transverse energy range E_T^gamma>30 GeV and is based on 2.5/fb of integrated luminosity. We report on measurements of the inclusive jet production cross section as a function of the jet transverse momentum in pp-bar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV}, using the k_T algorithm and a data sample corresponding to 1.0 fb^-1 collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab in Run II. The measurements are carried out in five different jet rapidity regions with |yjet| < 2.1 and transverse momentum in the range 54 < \ptjet < 700 GeV/c. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions are in good agreement with the measured cross sections.

We present a search for anomalous semileptonic decays of heavy flavor hadrons produced in association with a $W$ boson, in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. We use 162 pb-1 of data collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with one W boson and at least one jet with an identified secondary vertex. In the jets with a secondary vertex we look for a semileptonic decay to a muon. From a study of the X(3872) mass and width based on the world's largest sample of $X(3872)\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ decays, we find that our X(3872) signal is consistent with a single state, and leads to the most precise measurement of the X(3872) mass. We also report the recent evidence for a new narrow structure, Y(4140), decaying to the $J/ψϕ$ final state, in exclusive $B^+\to J/ψϕK^+$ decays in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.7 \ifb collected at the CDF II detector. We present preliminary results on inclusive direct photon production in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=1.96 TeV, using data collected with the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab in Run II, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 451 pb$^{-1}$. Measurements are performed as a function of the photon transverse momentum for photons with $p_{T}>$30 GeV and $|η|<$1.0. Photons are required to be isolated in the calorimeter. The measurement is corrected to the hadron level and compared to NLO pQCD predictions.

We report a measurement of the single top quark production cross section in 2.2 ~fb-1 of p-pbar collision data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. Using data from proton - antiproton collisions at Ecms = 1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II and D0 detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron, we present the recent results on charm and bottom hadrons. We report the most recent CDF results on properties of the four bottom baryon resonant states Sigma_b(*)-, Sigma_b(*)+. The new results on exotic Y(4140) state observed by CDF are reported. A precise measurement of production rates of the basic lowest lying bottom baryon Lambda_b produced in the DZero detector is presented.
We combine results from CDF and D0's direct searches for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson (H) produced in ppbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV, focusing on the decay H\rightarrowγγ. We compute upper limits on the Higgs boson production cross section times the decay branching fraction in the range 100<m_H<150 GeV/c^2, and we interpret the results in the context of the standard model. This contribution describes a search for the associated production of Standard Model vector bosons WZ where the W boson decays leptonically (W->l nu) and the Z boson decays to a heavy flavor quark pair (Z->b b-bar,c c-bar). We present recent results from CDF on top-quark physics based on 100-200/pb of p-pbar collision data. Recently, the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron has used complementary methods to make multiple measurements of the singly produced top quark cross section. All analyses use the same dataset with more than 2 fb^-1 of CDF data and event selection based on W+2 or W+3 jet events with at least one b-tagged jet. However, due to differences in analysis techniques these results are not fully correlated and a combination provides improved experimental precision. The top quark, discovered in 1995 by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron proton antiproton collider at Fermilab, has undergone intense studies in the last 20 years. We present a search for a Higgs boson decaying to two W bosons in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb-1 collected with the CDF II detector. We find no evidence for production of a Higgs boson with mass between 110 and 200 GeV/c^2, and determine upper limits on the production cross section. For the mass of 160 GeV/c^2, where the analysis is most sensitive, the observed (expected) limit is 0.7 pb (0.9 pb) at 95% Bayesian credibility level which is 1.7 (2.2) times the standard model cross section.
In their 1997 paper, CDF measured sigma_effective, the normalization factor that relates the cross section for double parton scattering to the product of the inclusive cross sections of the two individual scatters, in a model in which they are assumed to be independent. The measurements of the \Bs mixing parameter which describes the difference in width (the inverse of the lifetime) between the \Bs heavy and light states are described. These measurements include direct measurement of $ΔΓ_s$ and $Γ_s$ by resolving CP eigenstates by angular analysis and measurements in which the proportion of CP even and odd is known.
Using data collected with the CDF Run II detector, new measurements on bottom production cross-sections are presented. The latest achievements in bottom hadron spectroscopy are discussed. The results are based on a large sample of semileptonic and hadronic decays of bottom states made available by triggers based on the precise CDF tracking system.
It has recently been pointed out that CDF data for the cross section of high-p_t charged particles show an excess of up to three orders of magnitude over QCD predictions, a feature tentatively ascribed to possible violations of factorisation. We observe that for p_t > 80 GeV the measured charged-particle cross sections become of the same order as jet cross sections. We report on the first measurement of the rapidity distribution dsigma/dy over nearly the entire kinematic region of rapidity for e^+e^- pairs in the Z-boson region of 66<M_{ee}<116 GeV/c^2 and at higher mass M_{ee}>116 GeV/c^2. The data sample consists of 108 pb^{-1} of ppbar collisions at \sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV taken by the Collider Detector at Fermilab during 1992--1995. The total cross section in the $Z$-boson region is measured to be 252 +- 11 pb. The measured total cross section and dσ/dy are compared with quantum chromodynamics calculations in leading and higher orders.
We present a new measurement of the $B^+$ meson differential cross section $dσ/d p_T$ at $\sqrt{s}=1960$ GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 739pb$^{-1}$ collected with the upgraded CDF detector (CDF II) at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. $B^+$ candidates are reconstructed through the decay $B^+ \to J/ψK^+$, with $J/ψ\to μ^+ μ^-$. We report on a search for the production of the Higgs boson decaying to two bottom quarks accompanied by two additional quarks. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 4\,\invfb\, of \ppbar\, collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$\,TeV recorded by the CDF II experiment. We present recent results on top quark pair production cross section and forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron. Three new cross section measurements from CDF and one new measurement from DO are presented that utilize the full dataset available. The CDF Collaboration has analyzed 955/pb of CDF II data to search for electroweak single top quark production at the Tevatron. We employ three different analysis techniques to search for a single top signal: multivariate likelihood functions; neural networks; the matrix element analysis technique. The sensitivities to a single top signal at the rate predicted by the Standard Model are 2.1 - 2.6 sigma. We report on the first measurement of the rapidity distribution dsigma/dy over nearly the entire kinematic region of rapidity for e+e- pairs in the Z-boson region of 66<M_ee<116 GeV/c2 and at higher mass M_ee>116 GeV/c2. The data sample consists of 108 pb-1 of pbar-p collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV taken by the Collider Detector at Fermilab during 1992--1995. The total cross section in the Z-boson region is measured to be 252 +- 11 pb. The measured total cross section and dsigma/dy are compared with quantum chromodynamics calculations in leading and higher orders.
I summarize recent top quark physics results from the Fermilab Tevatron experiments. Since the observation of the top quark by CDF and D0 in 1995, the experimental focus has shifted to a detailed study of the top quark's properties. This article describes recent measurements of the top quark production cross section, mass, kinematic properties, branching ratios, $V_{tb}$, and the W polarization in top decays.
We present a search for chargino-neutralino associated production using like electric charge dilepton events collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV. One lepton is identified as the hadronic decay of a tau lepton, while the other is an electron or muon. In data corresponding to 6.0 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, we obtain good agreement with standard model predictions, and set limits on the chargino-neutralino production cross section for simplified gravity- and gauge-mediated models. We combine results from CDF and D0 on direct searches for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson H in ppbar collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. Compared to the previous Tevatron Higgs search combination more data have been added, additional new channels have been incorporated, and some previously used channels have been reanalyzed to gain sensitivity. We use the latest parton distribution functions and gg to H theoretical cross sections when comparing our limits to the SM predictions.
