It has recently been pointed out that CDF data for the cross section of high-p_t charged particles show an excess of up to three orders of magnitude over QCD predictions, a feature tentatively ascribed to possible violations of factorisation. We observe that for p_t > 80 GeV the measured charged-particle cross sections become of the same order as jet cross sections. Combining this information with data on charged particle distributions within jets allows us to rule out the hypothesis that the CDF data could be interpreted in terms of QCD factorisation violation. We also comment on the difficulty of interpreting the excess in terms of new physics scenarios.
Under the assumption that the dijet excess seen by the CDF Collaboration near 150 Gev in Wjj production is due to the lightest technipion of the low-scale technicolor process $ρ_T \rightarrow W π_T$, we study its observability in LHC detectors with 1-5 fb^{-1} of data. We find that cuts similar to those employed by CDF are unlikely to confirm its signal. We propose cuts tailored to the LSTC hypothesis and its backgrounds at the LHC that can reveal $π_T \rightarrow jj$. We also stress the importance at the LHC of the isospin-related channel $ρ^{\pm}_T \rightarrow Zπ^{\pm}_T \rightarrow \ell\ell…
We demonstrate the recent observation of a peak in the dijet invariant mass of the Wjj signal observed by the CDF Collaboration can be explained as the same upward fluctuation observed by CDF in single-top-quark production. In general, both t-channel and s-channel single-top-quark production produce kinematically induced peaks in the dijet spectrum. Since CDF used a Monte Carlo simulation to subtract the single-top backgrounds instead of data, a peak in the dijet spectrum is expected. The D0 Collaboration has a small upward fluctuation in their published t-channel data; and hence we predict th…
Recently CDF has reported a 4.1 sigma excess in the distribution of the dijet invariant mass between 120-160 GeV in Wjj event sample in 7.3 fb^{-1} of data, which has generated considerable interest. We offer a possible explanation of this observation in the general framework of MSSM with R-parity violation through resonance production of tau sneutrino decaying into the LSP stau_1 and W boson. We also give the predictions of this scenario for the LHC operating at 7 TeV center of mass energy.
Recently the CDF collaboration has reported the excess in the dijet invariant-mass distribution of the Wjj events, corresponding to a significance of 3.2 standard deviations. Considering the lack of similar excesses in the $γjj$ and $Z jj$ events yet, we propose a new Z' model: Z' couples only to the second generation quarks. Single production of $\zsc$ as well as associated production with $W,γ, Z$ are mainly from the sea quarks. Only $W Z'$ production has additional contribution from one valence quark and one sea quark, which is allowed by CKM mixing. We found that if the new gauge coupling …
The new physics required to explain the anomalies recently reported by the D0 and CDF collaborations, namely the top forward-backward asymmetry (FBA), the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in semileptonic b decay, and the CDF dijet excess, has to feature an amount of flavor symmetry in order to satisfy the severe constrains arising from flavor violation. In this paper we show that, once baryon number conservation is imposed, color & weak triplet scalars with hypercharge $Y=1/3$ can feature the required flavor structure as a consequence of standard model gauge invariance. The color & weak tripl…
The recent excess observed by CDF in $B^0_s \to μ^{+} μ^{-}$ is interpreted in terms of a possible supersymmetric origin. An analysis is given of the parameter space of mSUGRA and non-universal SUGRA models under the combined constraints from LHC-7 with 165 pb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, under the new XENON-100 limits on the neutralino-proton spin independent cross section and under the CDF $B^0_s \to μ^{+} μ^{-}$ 90% C.L. limit reported to arise from an excess number of dimuon events. It is found that the predicted value of the branching ratio $B^0_s \to μ^{+} μ^{-}$ consistent with all …
Motivated by recent anomalous CDF data on $Wjj$ events, we study a possible explanation within the framework of the two-Higgs doublet model. We find that a charged Higgs boson of mass $\sim$ 140 GeV with appropriate couplings can account for the observed excess. In addition, we consider the flavor-changing neutral current effects induced at loop level by the charged Higgs boson on the $B$ meson system to further constrain the model. Our study shows that the like-sign charge asymmetry $A_{s\ell}^b$ can be of ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$ in this scenario.
We show that the scalar sector needed for fermion mass generation when the flavor symmetry of the standard model is maximally gauged can consistently explain two anomalies reported recently by the CDF collaboration - the forward-backward asymmetry in t-tbar pair production, and the dijet invariant mass in the Wjj channel. A pair of nearly degenerate scalar doublets with masses in the range 150-200 GeV explain these anomalies, with additional scalars predicted in the mass range 100-400 GeV. Consistency of such low scale flavor physics with flavor changing processes is shown, and expectations fo…
We construct anomaly-free leptophobic U(1)' flavor models with light Z'(~ 145 GeV). In order to allow renormalizable Yukawa interactions for the standard model chiral fermions, new Higgs doublets with nonzero U(1)' charges are introduced. Then the neutral (pseudo)scalar Higgs bosons as well as Z' contribute to the t\bar{t} and the same sign top pair productions [σ(t\bar{t}]) and σ(tt)], and one can evade the strong constraint from σ(tt). The top forward-backward asymmetry (A_{FB}) and Wjj excess at CDF could be accommodated by A_{FB}^{New} = 0.084 ~ 0.12 and σ(W j j) \lesssim O(10) pb \times \…
The CDF collaboration reported an excess in the production of two jets in association with a $W$. We discuss constraints on possible new particle state interpretations of this excess. The fact of no statistically significant deviation from the SM expectation for {$Z$+dijet} events in CDF data disfavors the new particle explanation. We show that the nucleon intrinsic strange quarks provide an important contribution to the $W$ boson production in association with a single top quark production. Such {$W$+t} single top quark production can contribute to the CDF {$W$+dijet} excess, thus the nucleon…
We present a simple, perturbative, and renormalizable model with a flavor symmetry which can explain both the t-tbar forward-backward asymmetry and the bump feature present in the dijet mass distribution of the W+jj sample in the range 120-160 GeV that was recently reported by the CDF collaboration. The flavor symmetry not only ensures the flavor/CP safety of the model, but also relates the two anomalies unambiguously. It predicts a comparable forward-backward asymmetry in c-cbar. The forward-backward asymmetry in b-bar is, however, small. A bump in the dijet mass distribution in Z+jj sample i…
Under the assumption that the dijet excess seen by the CDF Collaboration near 150 Gev in Wjj production is due to the lightest technipion of the low-scale technicolor process $ρ_T \rightarrow W π_T$, we study its observability in LHC detectors with 1--20 inverse femtobarns of data. We describe interesting new kinematic tests that can provide independent confirmation of this LSTC hypothesis. We find that cuts similar to those employed by CDF, and recently by ATLAS, cannot confirm the dijet signal. We propose cuts tailored to the LSTC hypothesis and its backgrounds at the LHC that may reveal $ρ_…
The latest CDF anomaly, the excess of dijet events in the invariant-mass window 120-160 GeV in associated production with a $W$ boson, can be explained by a baryonic $Z'$ model in which the $Z'$ boson has negligible couplings to leptons. Although this $Z'$ model is hardly subject to the Drell-Yan constraint from Tevatron, it is constrained by the dijet data from UA2 ($\sqrt{s} = 630$ GeV), and the precision measurements at LEP through the mixing with the SM $Z$ boson. We show that under these constraints this model can still explain the excess in the M_{jj} \sim 120 - 160 GeV window, as well a…
CDF recently reported an excess of events in the mu-gamma-missing E_T channel that disagrees with the Standard Model prediction. No such excess was observed in the e-gamma-mett channel. We explain the excess via resonant smuon production with a single dominant R-parity violating coupling lambda'_{211}, in the context of models where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The slepton decays to the lightest neutralino and a muon followed by neutralino decaying to a gravitino and photon. We determine a viable region of parameter space that fits the kinematical distributions of the…
In this letter we discuss a certain class of Hidden Valley models where the dynamics in the hidden sector are close to a strongly coupled conformal fixed point. We show that these models can explain the excess in cosmic ray muon events with high muon multiplicities that has been reported from cosmic ray studies with the ALEPH and DELPHI detectors. We further point out that these models can also at least partially account for the excess in multi-muon events that was found by the CDF experiment. Finally we discuss possible signatures of these models at the LHC.
Under the assumption that the dijet excess seen by the CDF Collaboration near 150 Gev in Wjj production is due to the lightest technipion of the low-scale technicolor process $ρ_T \rightarrow W π_T$, we study its observability in LHC detectors for 8 TeV collisions and 20 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity. We describe interesting new kinematic tests that can provide independent confirmation of this LSTC hypothesis. We show that cuts similar to those employed by CDF, and recently by ATLAS, cannot confirm the dijet signal. We propose cuts tailored to the LSTC hypothesis and its backgrou…
The recent data on $W+$dijet excess reported by CDF may be interpreted as the associated production of a $W$ and a new particle of mass about 150 GeV which subsequently decays into two hadron jets. We study the possibility of explaining the $W+$dijet excess by colored scalar bosons. There are several colored scalars which can have tree level renormalizable Yukawa couplings with two quarks, $({\bf 8}, {\bf 2},1/2)$, $(\bar{\bf 6}({\bf 3}), {\bf 3}({\bf 1}), -1/3)$, $(\bar {\bf 6}({\bf 3}), {\bf 1}, -4/3(2/3))$. If one of these scalars has a mass about 150 GeV, being colored it can naturally exp…
The top quark data in the lepton plus $τ$ channel offers a viable probe for the charged Higgs boson signal. We have analysed the recent Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) data in this channel to obtain a significant limit on the $H^\pm$ mass in the large $\tanβ$ region.
A search has been performed for B_s --> mu+mu- and B_d --> mu+mu- decays using 7/fb of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The observed number of B_d candidates is consistent with background-only expectations and yields an upper limit on the branching fraction of BF(B_d-->mu+mu-) < 6.0E-9 at 95% confidence level. We observe an excess of B_s candidates. The probability that the background processes alone could produce such an excess or larger is 0.27%. The probability that the combination of background and the expected standard model rate of…
The CDF collaboration recently presented evidence for an excess in the dijet invariant mass distribution coming from events in a W+2j exclusive sample. Here we show that this excess can be explained by the s-channel production of a weakly coupled Higgsophilic Z' near M_Z' ~ 270 GeV which decays into a W^\pm and a charged Higgs at M_{H^\pm} ~ 150 GeV. While the simplest implementations of a general leptophobic Z' model quickly run into tensions with electroweak observables, a more specific Higgsophilic model evades these constraints without resorting to any fine-tuning. We discuss the distincti…
We extend the standard model to include a weak-triplet and color-octet scalar. This `octo-triplet' field consists of three particles, two charged and one neutral, whose masses and renormalizable interactions depend only on two new parameters. The charged octo-triplet decay into a W boson and a gluon is suppressed by a loop factor and an accidental cancellation. Thus, the main decays of the charged octo-triplet may occur through higher-dimensional operators, mediated by a heavy vectorlike fermion, into quark pairs. For an octo-triplet mass below the t\bar{b} threshold, the decay into Wb\bar{b} …
These proceedings describe Sleuth, a quasi-model-independent search strategy targeting new electroweak scale physics, and its application to 927 pb^-1 of CDF II data. Exclusive final states are analyzed for an excess of data beyond the Standard Model prediction at large summed scalar transverse momentum. This analysis of high-pT data represents one of the most encompassing searches so far conducted for new physics at the energy frontier.
We demonstrate that there is no evidence of any Wjj excess or deficit within CDF data if a data-derived background estimation that includes single-top-quark production is used instead of a Monte Carlo estimate. Instead, when coupled with the CDF measurement of single-top-quark production, a more interesting anomaly exists within CDF data: namely, there are too many W+0 b-tag and W+2 b-tag events, and too few W+1 b-tag events. As we previously predicted, there is no significant evidence of any of these anomalies in the D0 data set.
The CDF collaboration has reported a 4.1σ excess in their lepton, missing energy, and dijets channel. This excess, which takes the form of an approximately Gaussian peak centered at a dijet invariant mass of 147 GeV, has provoked a great deal of experimental and theoretical interest. Although the DØ collaboration has reported that they do not observe a signal consistent with CDF, there is currently no widely accepted explanation for the discrepancy between these two experiments. A resolution of this issue is of great importance---not least because it may teach us lessons relevant for future se…
Motivated by the excellent agreement between next-to-leading-order pQCD calculations and the inclusive jet spectra measured by CDF, we cross-check PYTHIA fragmentation functions. The convolution of the measured jet spectra with unmodified PYTHIA fragmentation functions results in reasonable agreement with the PYTHIA charged particle spectrum over the entire p_T range of interest, while there is a sizable disagreement with the measured charged particle spectrum above p_T=30 GeV/c. In an attempt to understand the source of this discrepancy, we introduce a number of increasingly different toy-mod…
Recently Nelson et al. proposed an interesting flavor symmetric model to account for the top quark forward-backward asymmetry and the dijet anomaly at CDF simultaneously with just three parameters: a coupling constant of order one, and two scalar masses of 160 GeV and 220 GeV. However these fiducial values of the parameters lead to the branching ratio of a almost pure penguin B -> pi K decay about one hundred times larger than the experimental results. Consider also the precision electroweak constraints, the scalar masses should be at least around 500 GeV. Actually with the coupling constant l…
We consider an explanation of CDF II W bosom mass anomaly by $Z-Z'$ mixing with $U(1)_R$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed fermions are charged. It is found that $U(1)_R$ is preferred to be leptophobic to accommodate the anomaly while avoiding other experimental constraints. In such a case we require extra charged leptons to cancel quantum anomalies and the SM charged leptons get masses via interactions with the extra ones. These interactions also induce muon $g-2$ and lepton flavor violations. We discuss muon $g-2$, possible flavor constraints, neutrino mass generation via inverse seesa…
We discuss the recent excess seen by the CDF Collaboration in the dijet invariant mass distribution produced in association with a $W$ boson. We analyze the possibility of such a signal within the context of a $U(1)_X$ Stueckelberg extension of the Standard Model where the new gauge boson couples only to quarks. In addition to the analysis of the $Wjj$ anomaly we also discuss the production of $Zjj$ and $γjj$ at the Tevatron. The analysis is then extended to the Large Hadron Collider with $\sqrt{s}=7 {\rm TeV}$ and predictions for the dijet signals are made.
The recent excess over the Standard Model prediction in the μγmissing-E_T channel reported by CDF can be well-explained by resonant smuon production with a single dominant R-parity violating coupling λ'_{211}, in the context of models where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The slepton decays to the lightest neutralino and a muon followed by neutralino decaying to a gravitino and photon. The kinematical distributions are fitted well by our hypothesis and we use them to constrain the available parameter space. The model also provides an explanation for the eeγγmissing-E_T e…
Resonant production of a light, narrow techni-rho, followed by the decay $ρ_T \rightarrow W+π_T(jj)$ has been proposed as an explanation of the Wjj excess observed by CDF. If the $π_T$ decays to $τ+ν/τ^+ τ^-$ rather than to jets, subsequent leptonic $τ$ decay leads to $\ell^+\ell^- νν\barν\barν$, a final state that will be picked up by standard model $WW^{(*)} \rightarrow \ell^+\ell^-$ + MET Higgs searches. We point out that, for the same range of technicolor parameters required to fit the CDF Wjj excess, the correlated $\ell^+\ell^-$ + MET technicolor signal can have strength comparable to th…
The CDF experiment reported a lepton photon missing transverse energy (E_T) signal 3 sigma in excess of the Standard Model prediction in Tevatron Run I data. The excess can be explained by the resonant production of a smuon, which subsequently decays to a muon, a photon and a gravitino. Here, we perform combined fits of this model to the CDF gamma lepton missing E_T excess, the D0 measurement of the same channel and the CDF photon missing E_T channel. Although the rates of the latter two analyses are in agreement with the Standard Model prediction, our model is in good agreement with these dat…
The recent measurement by the CDF Collaboration of the $W$ boson mass is in significant tension with the Standard Model expectation, showing a discrepancy of seven standard deviations. A larger value of $m_W$ affects the global electroweak fit, particularly the best-fit values of the Peskin-Takeuchi parameters $S$, $T$ (and perhaps $U$) that measure oblique corrections from new physics. To meet this challenge, we propose some simple models capable of generating non-negative $S$ and $T$, the latter of which faces the greatest upward pressure from the CDF measurement in scenarios with $U=0$. Our…
The CDF collaboration recently reported an upper limit on boosted top pair production and noted a significant excess above the estimated background of events with two ultra-massive boosted jets. We discuss the interpretation of the measurement and its fundamental implications. In case new physics is involved, the most naive contribution is from a new particle produced with a cross section that is a few times higher than that of the top quark and a sizable hadronic branching ratio. We quantify the resulting tension of a possible larger top pair cross section with the absence of excess found in …
We demonstrate that the significant discrepancy between the previous predictions of the conventional QCD and the CDF inclusive jet production data could be an indication that the behaviour of the Callan-Symanzik βfunction in QCD corresponds to it having an ultraviolet finite fixed point.
We study the phenomenology of color-octet scalars in the (8, 2)1/2 representation in the context of the 3.2σexcess, in the dijet invariant mass spectrum of the W+jj final state, recently observed by the CDF collaboration. We consider the region of parameter space with a sizable mass splitting between the charged and neutral color-octet scalars and consistent with electroweak precision data. We implement the principle of Minimal Flavor Violation (MFV) in order to suppress FCNC currents and reduce the number of free parameters. The excess in the W+jj channel corresponds to the charged current de…
We study the behavior of the charged particle and energy components of the "underlying event" in hard scattering proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96TeV. The goal is to produce data on the "underlying event" that is corrected to the particle level so that it can be used to tune the QCD Monte-Carlo models without requiring CDF detector simulation. Unlike the previous CDF Run 2 "underlying event" analysis which used JetClu to define "jets" and compared uncorrected data with the QCD Monte-Carlo models after detector simulation (i.e., CDFSIM), this analysis uses the MidPoint jet algorithm and corr…
We point out that production of new bosons by charged meson decays can greatly enhance the sensitivity of beam-focused accelerator-based experiments to new physics signals. This enhancement arises since the charged mesons are focused and their three-body decays do not suffer from helicity suppression in the same way as their usual two-body decays. As a realistic application, we attempt to explain the MiniBooNE low energy excess utilizing this overlooked mechanism, uniquely realizing dark-sector interpretations as plausible solutions to the excess. As proof of the principle, we consider two wel…
We outline several improvements to the experimental analyses carried out at Tevatron (Run 2) or simulated in view of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) that could increase the scope of CDF/D0 and ATLAS/CMS in detecting charged Higgs bosons
In light of the recent CDF report on the excess in the Wjj channel, we analyze (non)supersymmetric U(1)_B x U(1)_L model, interpreting the dijet peak as a leptophobic U(1)_B gauge boson. If this excess is confirmed, it has an interesting implication for the baryonic cold dark matter (CDM) in the model: there should be light CDM with a few GeV mass, and direct detection cross section at the level of a few x 10^{-2} pb.
We show that the 750 GeV diphoton excess can be explained by introducing vector-like quarks and hidden fermions charged under a hidden U(1) gauge symmetry, which has a relatively large coupling constant as well as a significant kinetic mixing with U(1)$_Y$. With the large kinetic mixing, the standard model gauge couplings unify around $10^{17}$ GeV, suggesting the grand unified theory without too rapid proton decay. Our scenario predicts events with a photon and missing transverse momentum, and its cross section is related to that for the diphoton excess through the kinetic mixing. We also dis…
We consider a charged scalar particle $χ$ of mass around 375 GeV charged under both $SU(3)_c$ and a new confining non-abelian gauge interaction. After pair production, these interactions confine the exotic scalar into non-relativistic bound states whose decays into photons can explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess observed at the LHC. Taking the new confining group to be $\mathrm{SU}(2)$, we find $χ$ must carry an electric charge of $Q \sim [\frac{1}{2}, 1]$ to fit the data. Interestingly, we find that pair production of the scalars and the subsequent formation of the bound state dominates over …
The hadronic $\kt$-spectrum inside a high energy jet is determined including corrections of relative magnitude $\cO{\sqrt{α_s}}$ with respect to the Modified Leading Logarithmic Approximation (MLLA), in the limiting spectrum approximation (assuming an infrared cut-off $Q_0 =\lqcd$) and beyond ($Q_0\ne\lqcd$). The results in the limiting spectrum approximation are found to be, after normalization, in impressive agreement with measurements by the CDF collaboration. A new integral representation for the "hump-backed" plateau is also reported.
Spectra for the emission of charged leptons from evaporating hot-spots of preconfining phase in SU(2) Yang-Mills thermodynamics are computed. Specifically, we consider charged single and dileptons with their spectra being functions of energy and invariant mass, respectively. In the former case, our results relate to narrow and correlated electron and positron peaks measured in supercritical heavy-ion collisions performed at GSI in the 1980ies. In the latter case, we point out how strongly the spectra depend on typical kinematic cuts (CDF analysis of Tevatron Run II data). We also propose a sce…
Searches for a charged Higgs boson ($H^\pm$) decaying to a charm quark and a bottom quark ($H^\pm \to cb$) have been carried out at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the decay of top quarks ($t\to H^\pm b$). In a recent search by the ATLAS collaboration (with all Run II data, 139 fb$^{-1}$) a local excess of around $3σ$ has been observed, which is best fitted by a charged Higgs boson with a mass ($m_{H^\pm}$) of around 130 GeV and a product of branching ratios (BRs) given by BR$(t\to H^\pm b)\times{\rm BR}(H^\pm\to cb)=0.16\%\pm 0.06\%$. In the context of Two-Higgs-Doublet Models (2HDM) with …
We investigate a production process $e^+p \to \st X \to \sb W^+ X$ at HERA, where we consider a decay mode $\sb \to \barν_e d$ of the sbottom in the framework of an R-parity breaking supersymmetric standard model. Both processes of the stop production $e^+ d \to \st$ and the sbottom decay $\sb \to \barν_e d$ are originated from an R-parity breaking superpotential $λ'_{131} \hat{L}_1 \hat{Q}_3 \hat{D^c}_1$. One of signatures of the process should be a large missing transverse momentum plus multijet events corresponding to hadronic decays of the $W$. It is shown that the signal could appear as a…
We discuss the impact of additional two-body decays of the right-handed neutrino into a light charged Higgs state on the dilepton plus dijet cross sections from resonant $W'$ production. We consider in particular a supersymmetric left-right symmetric model which predicts such a light charged Higgs boson. We demonstrate that the $eejj$ excess as measured by CMS can be explained best if the $W'$ also has decay modes into Higgsino-like charginos and neutralinos with masses of a few hundred GeV. Provided that this excess is confirmed, the model predicts also one right-handed neutrino with a mass b…
The CDF collaboration's recent observation of an excess of events in the Wjj channel may be attributed to a new Abelian vector boson with suppressed couplings to leptons. While D0 finds no evidence of an excess, the CDF data provide an opportunity to revisit an old result on leptophobic Z' in heterotic-string derived models. We re-examine the conditions for the existence of a leptophobic U(1) symmetry, which arises from a combination of the U(1)_{B-L} symmetry and the horizontal flavour symmetries, to form a universal U(1) symmetry. While the conditions for the existence of a leptophobic combi…
The single inclusive spectrum of charged particles with transverse momenta pT=3-150 GeV/c measured at midrapidity by the CDF experiment in proton-antiproton (p-pbar) collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV is compared to next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations using the most recent parametrizations of the parton distributions and parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions. Above pT~20 GeV/c, there is a very sizeable disagreement of the Tevatron data compared to the NLO predictions and to xT-scaling expectations, suggesting a problem in the experimental data. We also present the predicti…
The excess of the 511 keV line from the Milky Way galactic bulge, confirmed by the INTEGRAL detector, is a longstanding mystery. The morphology of the line appears to be proportional to the square of the dark matter density, hinting towards a dark matter origin. On the other hand, in 2020, XENON1T has reported an excess of electrons with a recoil energy of $2-4$ keV. We present a model based on a dark matter of a few MeV mass that decays into a pair of pico-charged particles with a lifetime much larger than the age of the Universe. The magnetic field of the galaxy accumulates these relativisti…
The recently reported diphoton excess at the LHC may imply the existence of a new resonance with a mass of about 750 GeV which couples to photons via loops of new charged particles. In this letter, we study the possibility to test such models at the ILC, paying attention to the new charged particles responsible for the diphoton decay of the resonance. We show that they affect the scattering processes $e^+e^- \to f\bar{f}$ (with $f$ denoting Standard Model fermions) at the ILC, which makes it possible to indirectly probe the new charged particles even if they are out of the kinematical reach. W…
We propose a particularly simple explanation of the W+dijet excess reported by the CDF collaboration. No symmetries beyond those of the standard model are necessary, and the only new particles involved are a spin-zero weak SU(2) doublet with no vacuum expectation value. Possible tests of the model and comparisons to other proposals are discussed.
Generalization of z-scaling observed in the inclusive high-pT charged hadron and jet production is proposed. The scaling function psi(z) describing both charged hadrons and jets produced in proton-(anti)proton collisions for various multiplicity densities and collision energies is constructed. Anomalous fractal dimensions and parameters characterizing associated medium for both classes of events are established. The basic features of the scaling established in minimum bias events are shown to be preserved up to the highest multiplicity densities measured in experiments UA1, E735, CDF and STAR.…
In a Dark left-right gauge model, the neutral component of right-handed lepton doublet is odd under generalized R-parity and thus the lightest one serves as the dark matter (DM) candidate. The coannihilation of the dark matter with the singly charged Higgs triplet produces the correct relic abundance. We explain AMS-02 positron excess by the annihilation of 800 GeV dark matter into $μ^+μ^-γ$, through a t-channel exchange of the additional charged triplet Higgs boson. The DM is leptophilic which is useful for explaining the non-observation of any antiproton excess which would generically be exp…
Recent measurements of the single inclusive jet cross section at the Tevatron by the CDF Collaboration maybe suggest a modified picture of QCD in the large $E_T$ range. One possible explanation of the measured jet excess is the introduction of a neutral heavy vector boson $Z'$. A parameter fit of this new model to the CDF data, in leading order perturbation theory, is performed, and the question of how the corresponding single inclusive jet cross sections and the dijet angular distributions at the LHC are affected by this additional $Z'$ is discussed. We conclude that the $Z'$ will play a pivo…
We propose to identify the excess of events with four charged leptons at $E\sim 325\GeV$ seen by the CDF and CMS Collaborations with a new `sterile' scalar particle characterized by a very narrow resonance of the same height and branching ratios as the Standard Model Higgs boson, as predicted in the framework of the so-called Conformal Standard Model
Jet production in high energy hadron-hadron collisions can serve as a probe for new physics. I review recent data from CDF and D0 on the high E_T jet cross section. Reporting on recent work of the CTEQ collaboration, I argue that the apparent excess seen in the CDF data may be due to the gluon distribution function used in the theoretical calculation being too small at large x. I discuss data on the dijet angular distribution, which shows no sign of a new physics signal.
