In this letter we discuss a certain class of Hidden Valley models where the dynamics in the hidden sector are close to a strongly coupled conformal fixed point. We show that these models can explain the excess in cosmic ray muon events with high muon multiplicities that has been reported from cosmic ray studies with the ALEPH and DELPHI detectors. We further point out that these models can also at least partially account for the excess in multi-muon events that was found by the CDF experiment. Finally we discuss possible signatures of these models at the LHC.
A recent paper by the CDF collaboration suggests (but does not claim) an anomalous event sample containing muons produced with large impact parameter, often with high multiplicity and at small angles from one another. This curious hint of a signal is potentially consistent with the hidden valley scenario, as well as with some other classes of models. Despite its tenuous nature, this hint highlights the experimental difficulties raised by such signals, and merits some consideration. Some of the simplest interpretations of the data, such as a light neutral particle decaying to muon and/or tau pa…
We study the CDF $W$-mass, muon $g-2$, and dark matter observables in a local $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model in which the new particles include three vector-like leptons ($E_1,~ E_2,~ N$), a new gauge boson $Z'$, a scalar $S$ (breaking $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$), a scalar dark matter $X_I$ and its partner $X_R$. We find that the CDF $W$-mass disfavors $m_{E_1}= m_{E_2}={m_N}$ or $s_L=s_R=0$ where $s_{L(R)}$ is mixing parameter of left (right)-handed fields of vector-like leptons. A large mass splitting between $E_1$ and $E_2$ is favored when the differences between $s_L$ and $s_R$ becomes small. The muon $g-2$…
We study the implications of the recent anomalies in the $W$-boson mass and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon on $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model. We show that the introduction of vector-like leptons which mix with muon can solve both anomalies. Contrary to the conventional wisdom the electroweak scale $Z'$-boson is allowed without conflict with the trident neutrino production experiments.
We discuss a generalization of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model in the form of three additional singlet superfields, which would explain the essential features of the CDF multi-muon events presented recently: a large production cross section of ~ 100 pb originates from the production of a CP-odd scalar A with a mass in the 70 - 80 GeV range and a large value of tan(beta) ~ 40. The CP-odd scalar A decays dominantly into CP-odd and CP-even scalars a_1 and h_1, which generate decay cascades h_1 -> 2 h_2 -> 4 a_2 -> 8 tau-leptons, and a_1 -> h_1 a_2 with h_1 decaying as a…
In 2008 the CDF Collaboration announced the discovery of an excess of events with two or more muons, dubbed "ghost" events for their unusual properties. In a recent update, CDF finds that the azimuthal angle distribution between the primary (trigger) muons is significantly more back-to-back than that of all known sources of di-muon backgrounds. Here we show that this angular distribution cannot be reproduced in models where the muons are produced in the decays of relatively light X-particles: all models of this kind also predict a much broader distribution than that found by CDF. We conclude t…
In 2008 the CDF collaboration discovered a large excess of events containing two or more muons, at least one of which seemed to have been produced outside the beam pipe. We investigate whether similar "ghost" events could (and should) have been seen in already completed experiments. The CDF di-muon data can be reproduced by a simple model where a relatively light X particle undergoes four-body decay. This model predicts a large number of ghost events in Fermilab fixed-target experiments E772, E789 and E866, applying the cuts optimized for analyses of Drell-Yan events. A correct description of …
The SUSY contributions $Δa_μ$ to muon $g-2$ anomaly can not even reach $3σ$ in ordinary gauge mediated SUSY breaking (GMSB) scenarios because of the strong correlations between the colored sparticle masses and the uncolored EW sparticle masses. An interesting extension to GMSB is the (Extra)Ordinary Gauge Mediation (EOGM), which can relax the correlations between squarks and sleptons with non-universal choices for $N_{eff,3}$ and $N_{eff,2}$. We find that EOGM scenarios with $N_{eff,3}\ll N_{eff,2}$ can explain the muon $g-2$ anomaly within $3σ$ range, however can not explain the new W-boson m…
We present a phenomenological conjecture of new physics that is suggested by the topology and kinematic properties of the multi-muon events recently reported by the CDF collaboration. We show that the salient features of the data can be accounted for by postulating the pair production of three new states h1, h2, and h3 with masses in the range of 15, 7.3 and 3.6 GeV/c^2, respectively. The heavier states cascade-decay into the lighter ones, whereas the lightest state decays into a tau pair with a lifetime of the order of 20 ps.
There are now two single measurements of precision observables that have major anomalies in the Standard Model: the recent CDF measurement of the $W$ mass shows a $7σ$ deviation and the Muon $g-2$ experiment at FNAL confirmed a long-standing anomaly, implying a $4.2 σ$ deviation. Doubts regarding new physics interpretations of these anomalies could stem from uncertainties in the common hadronic contributions. We demonstrate that these two anomalies pull the hadronic contributions in opposite directions by performing electroweak fits in which the hadronic contribution was allowed to float. The …
Recently CDF II Collaboration reported that they measured W boson mass precisely. The measurement is deviated from the Standard Model (SM) Prediction at 7$σ$. Also, the recent FNAL measurement of the muon magnetic moment shows a $4.2σ$ deviation. To resolve the W boson as well as the muon $(g-2)$ anomalies, we explore the type-X two Higgs doublet model (2HDM). We analyze the $(m_A, \tanβ)$ parameter space of the type-X 2HDM consistent with the muon $(g-2)$, lepton universality test and recent $W$ boson mass measurments from the CDF II collaboration. We find that the measurement of the $h\to AA…
We consider an explanation of CDF II W bosom mass anomaly by $Z-Z'$ mixing with $U(1)_R$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed fermions are charged. It is found that $U(1)_R$ is preferred to be leptophobic to accommodate the anomaly while avoiding other experimental constraints. In such a case we require extra charged leptons to cancel quantum anomalies and the SM charged leptons get masses via interactions with the extra ones. These interactions also induce muon $g-2$ and lepton flavor violations. We discuss muon $g-2$, possible flavor constraints, neutrino mass generation via inverse seesa…
Since both $W$-mass and muon $g-2$ can be affected by the mass splittings among extra Higgs bosons $(H,~A,~H^\pm)$ in a 2HDM, we take a model with $μ$-$τ$ LFV interactions to examine the two anomalies reported respectively by CDF II and FNAL. We obtain the following observations: (i) Combined with theoretical constraints, the CDF $W$-mass measurement disfavors $H$ or $A$ to degenerate in mass with $H^\pm$, but allows $H$ and $A$ to degenerate. The mass splitting between $H^\pm$ and $H/A$ is required to be larger than 10 GeV. The $m_{H^\pm}$ and $m_{A}$ are favored to be smaller than 650 GeV fo…
It has recently been pointed out that CDF data for the cross section of high-p_t charged particles show an excess of up to three orders of magnitude over QCD predictions, a feature tentatively ascribed to possible violations of factorisation. We observe that for p_t > 80 GeV the measured charged-particle cross sections become of the same order as jet cross sections. Combining this information with data on charged particle distributions within jets allows us to rule out the hypothesis that the CDF data could be interpreted in terms of QCD factorisation violation. We also comment on the difficul…
The CDF collaboration reported an excess in the production of two jets in association with a $W$. We discuss constraints on possible new particle state interpretations of this excess. The fact of no statistically significant deviation from the SM expectation for {$Z$+dijet} events in CDF data disfavors the new particle explanation. We show that the nucleon intrinsic strange quarks provide an important contribution to the $W$ boson production in association with a single top quark production. Such {$W$+t} single top quark production can contribute to the CDF {$W$+dijet} excess, thus the nucleon…
Two experiments from the Fermilab, E989 and CDF II, have reported two anomalies for muon $g-2$ and $W$-boson mass that may indicate the new physics at the low energy scale. Here we examine the possibility of a common origin of these two anomalies in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Considering various experimental and astrophysical constraints such as the Higgs mass, collider data, flavor physics, dark matter relic density, and direct detection experiments, we find that lighter electroweakinos and sleptons can generate sufficient contributions to muon $g-2$ and $m_W$. Moreove…
The recent measurement of the $W$ boson mass by the CDF collaboration adds an anomaly to the long-standing discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment, $Δa_μ$. Although type-X in the two-Higgs-doublet model provides an attractive solution to $Δa_μ$ through a light pseudoscalar $A$, the model confronts the exotic Higgs decays of $h\to AA$ and the lepton flavor universality data in the $τ$ and $Z$ decays. To save the model, we propose that the light pseudoscalar be Higgs-phobic. Through the random scanning over the entire parameter space, we perform a comparative study of the Higgs-phobic …
Under the assumption that the dijet excess seen by the CDF Collaboration near 150 Gev in Wjj production is due to the lightest technipion of the low-scale technicolor process $ρ_T \rightarrow W π_T$, we study its observability in LHC detectors with 1-5 fb^{-1} of data. We find that cuts similar to those employed by CDF are unlikely to confirm its signal. We propose cuts tailored to the LSTC hypothesis and its backgrounds at the LHC that can reveal $π_T \rightarrow jj$. We also stress the importance at the LHC of the isospin-related channel $ρ^{\pm}_T \rightarrow Zπ^{\pm}_T \rightarrow \ell\ell…
We demonstrate the recent observation of a peak in the dijet invariant mass of the Wjj signal observed by the CDF Collaboration can be explained as the same upward fluctuation observed by CDF in single-top-quark production. In general, both t-channel and s-channel single-top-quark production produce kinematically induced peaks in the dijet spectrum. Since CDF used a Monte Carlo simulation to subtract the single-top backgrounds instead of data, a peak in the dijet spectrum is expected. The D0 Collaboration has a small upward fluctuation in their published t-channel data; and hence we predict th…
Recently Nelson et al. proposed an interesting flavor symmetric model to account for the top quark forward-backward asymmetry and the dijet anomaly at CDF simultaneously with just three parameters: a coupling constant of order one, and two scalar masses of 160 GeV and 220 GeV. However these fiducial values of the parameters lead to the branching ratio of a almost pure penguin B -> pi K decay about one hundred times larger than the experimental results. Consider also the precision electroweak constraints, the scalar masses should be at least around 500 GeV. Actually with the coupling constant l…
Recently CDF has reported a 4.1 sigma excess in the distribution of the dijet invariant mass between 120-160 GeV in Wjj event sample in 7.3 fb^{-1} of data, which has generated considerable interest. We offer a possible explanation of this observation in the general framework of MSSM with R-parity violation through resonance production of tau sneutrino decaying into the LSP stau_1 and W boson. We also give the predictions of this scenario for the LHC operating at 7 TeV center of mass energy.
Recently the CDF collaboration has reported the excess in the dijet invariant-mass distribution of the Wjj events, corresponding to a significance of 3.2 standard deviations. Considering the lack of similar excesses in the $γjj$ and $Z jj$ events yet, we propose a new Z' model: Z' couples only to the second generation quarks. Single production of $\zsc$ as well as associated production with $W,γ, Z$ are mainly from the sea quarks. Only $W Z'$ production has additional contribution from one valence quark and one sea quark, which is allowed by CKM mixing. We found that if the new gauge coupling …
The new physics required to explain the anomalies recently reported by the D0 and CDF collaborations, namely the top forward-backward asymmetry (FBA), the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in semileptonic b decay, and the CDF dijet excess, has to feature an amount of flavor symmetry in order to satisfy the severe constrains arising from flavor violation. In this paper we show that, once baryon number conservation is imposed, color & weak triplet scalars with hypercharge $Y=1/3$ can feature the required flavor structure as a consequence of standard model gauge invariance. The color & weak tripl…
In recent times, several experiments have observed results that are in significant conflict with the predictions of the Standard Model (SM). Two neutrino experiments, LSND and MiniBooNE (MB) have reported electron-like signal excesses above backgrounds. Both the Brookhaven and the Fermilab muon $g-2$ collaborations have measured values of this parameter which, while consistent with each other, are in conflict with the SM. Recently, the CDF II collaboration has reported a precision measurement of the $W$-boson mass that is in strong conflict with the SM prediction. It is worthwhile to seek new …
The recent measurement of muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment (muon $g-2$) suggests that there might exist new physics that dominantly interacts with muons. The observed gamma-ray excess from Fermi-LAT indicates that dark matter annihilates into a specific charged fermions. We propose a successful model simultaneously to explain the Fermi-LAT GeV gamma-ray excess and sizable muon $g-2$ with a modular $A_4$ symmetry. Due to nature of this symmetry, our DM only interacts with pairs of muon and we explain sizable muon $g-2$ without suffering from constraints of any lepton flavor violations. We …
The recent excess observed by CDF in $B^0_s \to μ^{+} μ^{-}$ is interpreted in terms of a possible supersymmetric origin. An analysis is given of the parameter space of mSUGRA and non-universal SUGRA models under the combined constraints from LHC-7 with 165 pb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, under the new XENON-100 limits on the neutralino-proton spin independent cross section and under the CDF $B^0_s \to μ^{+} μ^{-}$ 90% C.L. limit reported to arise from an excess number of dimuon events. It is found that the predicted value of the branching ratio $B^0_s \to μ^{+} μ^{-}$ consistent with all …
A very economic scenario with just three extra scalar fields beyond the Standard Model is invoked to explain the muon anomalous magnetic moment, the requisite relic abundance of dark matter as well as the Xenon-1T excess through the inelastic down-scattering of the dark scalar.
We show that the scalar sector needed for fermion mass generation when the flavor symmetry of the standard model is maximally gauged can consistently explain two anomalies reported recently by the CDF collaboration - the forward-backward asymmetry in t-tbar pair production, and the dijet invariant mass in the Wjj channel. A pair of nearly degenerate scalar doublets with masses in the range 150-200 GeV explain these anomalies, with additional scalars predicted in the mass range 100-400 GeV. Consistency of such low scale flavor physics with flavor changing processes is shown, and expectations fo…
We construct anomaly-free leptophobic U(1)' flavor models with light Z'(~ 145 GeV). In order to allow renormalizable Yukawa interactions for the standard model chiral fermions, new Higgs doublets with nonzero U(1)' charges are introduced. Then the neutral (pseudo)scalar Higgs bosons as well as Z' contribute to the t\bar{t} and the same sign top pair productions [σ(t\bar{t}]) and σ(tt)], and one can evade the strong constraint from σ(tt). The top forward-backward asymmetry (A_{FB}) and Wjj excess at CDF could be accommodated by A_{FB}^{New} = 0.084 ~ 0.12 and σ(W j j) \lesssim O(10) pb \times \…
The recent excess over the Standard Model prediction in the μγmissing-E_T channel reported by CDF can be well-explained by resonant smuon production with a single dominant R-parity violating coupling λ'_{211}, in the context of models where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The slepton decays to the lightest neutralino and a muon followed by neutralino decaying to a gravitino and photon. The kinematical distributions are fitted well by our hypothesis and we use them to constrain the available parameter space. The model also provides an explanation for the eeγγmissing-E_T e…
We present a simple, perturbative, and renormalizable model with a flavor symmetry which can explain both the t-tbar forward-backward asymmetry and the bump feature present in the dijet mass distribution of the W+jj sample in the range 120-160 GeV that was recently reported by the CDF collaboration. The flavor symmetry not only ensures the flavor/CP safety of the model, but also relates the two anomalies unambiguously. It predicts a comparable forward-backward asymmetry in c-cbar. The forward-backward asymmetry in b-bar is, however, small. A bump in the dijet mass distribution in Z+jj sample i…
We consider a type I or type X two Higgs doublets model with a modified lepton sector. The generalized lepton sector is also flavor conserving but with the new Yukawa couplings completely decoupled from lepton mass proportionality. The model is one loop stable under renormalization group evolution and it allows to reproduce the $g-2$ muon anomaly together with the different scenarios one can consider for the electron $g-2$ anomaly, related to the Cesium and/or to the Rubidium recoil measurements of the fine structure constant. Thorough parameter space analyses are performed to constrain all th…
The Auger collaboration has observed the number of muons which is higher than its prediction by existing hadronic interaction models. We explain this excess of muons by using Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) in photon sector. As an outcome of Lorentz invariance violation, the dispersion relation of photon gets modified, which we use for the calculation of $π^0$ decay width. In the Auger data of primary energy $10^{9.8}<E(\mbox{GeV})<10^{10.2}$, we find that the neutral pion decay width is suppressed in comparison to its standard model (SM) counterpart. As a result, we get a large number of m…
We extended the standard model with a fourth generation of fermions to explain the discrepancy in the muon magnetic moment and to describe the positron excess observed by AMS-02 experiment. We introduce a gauged $SU(2)_{HV}$ horizontal symmetry between the muon and the 4th generation lepton families and identified the 4th generation right-handed neutrino as the dark matter with mass $\sim 700$ GeV. The dark matter annihilates through $SU(2)_{HV}$ gauge boson into final states $(μ^+ μ^-)$ and $(ν^c_μ~ν_μ)$. The $SU(2)_{HV}$ gauge boson with mass $\sim 1.4$ TeV gives the required contribution to…
Under the assumption that the dijet excess seen by the CDF Collaboration near 150 Gev in Wjj production is due to the lightest technipion of the low-scale technicolor process $ρ_T \rightarrow W π_T$, we study its observability in LHC detectors with 1--20 inverse femtobarns of data. We describe interesting new kinematic tests that can provide independent confirmation of this LSTC hypothesis. We find that cuts similar to those employed by CDF, and recently by ATLAS, cannot confirm the dijet signal. We propose cuts tailored to the LSTC hypothesis and its backgrounds at the LHC that may reveal $ρ_…
We studied an extension of the standard model with a fourth generation of fermions to explain the discrepancy in the muon $(g-2)$ and explain the positron excess seen in the AMS-02 experiment. We introduce a gauged $SU(2)_{HV}$ horizontal symmetry between the muon and the 4th generation lepton families. The 4th generation right-handed neutrino is identified as the dark matter with mass $\sim 700$ GeV. The dark matter annihilates only to $(μ^+ μ^-)$ and $(ν^c_μ~ν_μ)$ states via $SU(2)_{HV}$ gauge boson. The $SU(2)_{HV}$ gauge boson with mass $\sim 1.4$ TeV gives an adequate contribution to the …
The latest CDF anomaly, the excess of dijet events in the invariant-mass window 120-160 GeV in associated production with a $W$ boson, can be explained by a baryonic $Z'$ model in which the $Z'$ boson has negligible couplings to leptons. Although this $Z'$ model is hardly subject to the Drell-Yan constraint from Tevatron, it is constrained by the dijet data from UA2 ($\sqrt{s} = 630$ GeV), and the precision measurements at LEP through the mixing with the SM $Z$ boson. We show that under these constraints this model can still explain the excess in the M_{jj} \sim 120 - 160 GeV window, as well a…
The CDF experiment reported a lepton photon missing transverse energy (E_T) signal 3 sigma in excess of the Standard Model prediction in Tevatron Run I data. The excess can be explained by the resonant production of a smuon, which subsequently decays to a muon, a photon and a gravitino. Here, we perform combined fits of this model to the CDF gamma lepton missing E_T excess, the D0 measurement of the same channel and the CDF photon missing E_T channel. Although the rates of the latter two analyses are in agreement with the Standard Model prediction, our model is in good agreement with these dat…
CDF recently reported an excess of events in the mu-gamma-missing E_T channel that disagrees with the Standard Model prediction. No such excess was observed in the e-gamma-mett channel. We explain the excess via resonant smuon production with a single dominant R-parity violating coupling lambda'_{211}, in the context of models where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. The slepton decays to the lightest neutralino and a muon followed by neutralino decaying to a gravitino and photon. We determine a viable region of parameter space that fits the kinematical distributions of the…
We explore a simple and renormalizable model which incorporates a new stable fermion that accounts for the dark matter in the universe and which, at the same time, provides an interpretation of two recent measurements that deviate from the expectation in the Standard Model: the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the mass of the W-boson recently performed by the CDF collaboration. The model has a fermionic sector that involves a singlet and a doublet fields and in which the lightest state is the DM and interacts mainly through the Higgs portal. Two realizations of such a possibility are conside…
A new $U(1)_X$ gauge boson $X$ primarily interacting with a dark sector can have renormalizable kinetic mixing with the standard model (SM) $U(1)_Y$ gauge boson $Y$. This mixing besides introduces interactions of dark photon and dark sector with SM particles, it also modifies interactions among SM particles. The modified interactions can be casted into the oblique $S$, $T$ and $U$ parameters. We find that with the dark photon mass larger than the $Z$ boson mass, the kinetic mixing effects can reduce the tension of the W mass excess problem reported recently by CDF from $7σ$ deviation to within…
Under the assumption that the dijet excess seen by the CDF Collaboration near 150 Gev in Wjj production is due to the lightest technipion of the low-scale technicolor process $ρ_T \rightarrow W π_T$, we study its observability in LHC detectors for 8 TeV collisions and 20 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity. We describe interesting new kinematic tests that can provide independent confirmation of this LSTC hypothesis. We show that cuts similar to those employed by CDF, and recently by ATLAS, cannot confirm the dijet signal. We propose cuts tailored to the LSTC hypothesis and its backgrou…
The CDF collaboration recently reported an upper limit on boosted top pair production and noted a significant excess above the estimated background of events with two ultra-massive boosted jets. We discuss the interpretation of the measurement and its fundamental implications. In case new physics is involved, the most naive contribution is from a new particle produced with a cross section that is a few times higher than that of the top quark and a sizable hadronic branching ratio. We quantify the resulting tension of a possible larger top pair cross section with the absence of excess found in …
The recent data on $W+$dijet excess reported by CDF may be interpreted as the associated production of a $W$ and a new particle of mass about 150 GeV which subsequently decays into two hadron jets. We study the possibility of explaining the $W+$dijet excess by colored scalar bosons. There are several colored scalars which can have tree level renormalizable Yukawa couplings with two quarks, $({\bf 8}, {\bf 2},1/2)$, $(\bar{\bf 6}({\bf 3}), {\bf 3}({\bf 1}), -1/3)$, $(\bar {\bf 6}({\bf 3}), {\bf 1}, -4/3(2/3))$. If one of these scalars has a mass about 150 GeV, being colored it can naturally exp…
The MACRO underground detector at Gran Sasso Laboratory recorded 60 million secondary cosmic ray muons from February 1989 until December 2000. Different techniques were used to analyze this sample in search for density excesses from astrophysical point-like sources. No evidence for DC excesses for any source in an all-sky survey is reported. In addition, searches for muon excess correlated with the known binary periods of Cygnus X-3 and Hercules X-1, and searches for statistically significant bursting episodes from known gamma ray sources are also proved negative.
We demonstrate that the significant discrepancy between the previous predictions of the conventional QCD and the CDF inclusive jet production data could be an indication that the behaviour of the Callan-Symanzik βfunction in QCD corresponds to it having an ultraviolet finite fixed point.
We show an interesting correlation between the recent high precision measurement of the $W$-boson mass by the CDF collaboration and the muon $(g-2)$ anomaly in the context of the two Higgs doublet model. One-loop diagrams involving the exchange of neutral scalar bosons can explain the muon $(g-2)$, which however requires significant mass splittings among members of the second Higgs doublet. These splittings also generate a positive shift in the mass of the $W$-boson, consistent with the recent CDF measurement. The charged and neutral scalars of the model cannot be heavier than about 600 GeV fo…
A search has been performed for B_s --> mu+mu- and B_d --> mu+mu- decays using 7/fb of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The observed number of B_d candidates is consistent with background-only expectations and yields an upper limit on the branching fraction of BF(B_d-->mu+mu-) < 6.0E-9 at 95% confidence level. We observe an excess of B_s candidates. The probability that the background processes alone could produce such an excess or larger is 0.27%. The probability that the combination of background and the expected standard model rate of…
We consider implications of the diphoton excess recently observed at the LHC on the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of the muon $(g-2)_μ= 2 a_μ$, hypothesizing that the possible 750 GeV resonance is a (pseudo)scalar particle. The (pseudo)scalar-$γ$-$γ$ interaction implied by the diphoton events might generically contribute to $a_μ$ via 2-loop Barr-Zee type diagrams in a broad class of models. If the scalar is an $SU(2)_L$ singlet, the new contribution to $a_μ$ is much smaller than the current anomaly, $Δa_μ\equiv a_μ^{\rm exp}-a_μ^{\rm SM} \approx (30 \pm 10) \times 10^{-10}$, since the scala…
The CDF collaboration recently presented evidence for an excess in the dijet invariant mass distribution coming from events in a W+2j exclusive sample. Here we show that this excess can be explained by the s-channel production of a weakly coupled Higgsophilic Z' near M_Z' ~ 270 GeV which decays into a W^\pm and a charged Higgs at M_{H^\pm} ~ 150 GeV. While the simplest implementations of a general leptophobic Z' model quickly run into tensions with electroweak observables, a more specific Higgsophilic model evades these constraints without resorting to any fine-tuning. We discuss the distincti…
We extend the standard model to include a weak-triplet and color-octet scalar. This `octo-triplet' field consists of three particles, two charged and one neutral, whose masses and renormalizable interactions depend only on two new parameters. The charged octo-triplet decay into a W boson and a gluon is suppressed by a loop factor and an accidental cancellation. Thus, the main decays of the charged octo-triplet may occur through higher-dimensional operators, mediated by a heavy vectorlike fermion, into quark pairs. For an octo-triplet mass below the t\bar{b} threshold, the decay into Wb\bar{b} …
We discuss a possibility to explain the 750 GeV diphoton excess observed at the LHC in a three-loop neutrino mass model which has a similar structure to the model by Krauss, Nasri and Trodden. Tiny neutrino masses are naturally generated by the loop effect of new particles with their couplings and masses to be of order 0.1-1 and TeV, respectively. The lightest right-handed neutrino, which runs in the three-loop diagram, can be a dark matter candidate. In addition, the deviation in the measured value of the muon anomalous magnetic moment from its prediction in the standard model can be compensa…
Experimental observations of extensive air showers have revealed an excess of the muon content with respect to their theoretical simulations, which we refer to as the muon puzzle. This muon puzzle hampers a precise determination of the ultra-high-energy cosmic ray mass composition. We investigate the potential of producing states of dense quark-gluon matter (which we call fireballs) to resolve the muon puzzle as quantified with data from the Pierre Auger Observatory on the depth of the shower maximum and the number of muons at ground. Adopting a phenomenological fireball model, we find that th…
We study the phenomenology of color-octet scalars in the (8, 2)1/2 representation in the context of the 3.2σexcess, in the dijet invariant mass spectrum of the W+jj final state, recently observed by the CDF collaboration. We consider the region of parameter space with a sizable mass splitting between the charged and neutral color-octet scalars and consistent with electroweak precision data. We implement the principle of Minimal Flavor Violation (MFV) in order to suppress FCNC currents and reduce the number of free parameters. The excess in the W+jj channel corresponds to the charged current de…
The supersymmetric model is one of the most attractive extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics. In light of the most recently reported anomaly of the muon g-2 measurement by the FermiLab E989 experiment, and the excesses of gamma rays at the Galactic center observed by Fermi-LAT space telescope, as well as the antiproton excess observed by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, we propose to account for all these anomalies or excesses in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Considering various experimental constraints including the Higgs mass, B-physics, collider data, dar…
The CDF collaboration has reported a 4.1σ excess in their lepton, missing energy, and dijets channel. This excess, which takes the form of an approximately Gaussian peak centered at a dijet invariant mass of 147 GeV, has provoked a great deal of experimental and theoretical interest. Although the DØ collaboration has reported that they do not observe a signal consistent with CDF, there is currently no widely accepted explanation for the discrepancy between these two experiments. A resolution of this issue is of great importance---not least because it may teach us lessons relevant for future se…
In this talk three 2-sigma deviations from the Standard Model predictions in the top quark sector are briefly discussed. These are the excess of events in the tail of the H_T distribution in ttbar events, the top-quark charge asymmetry and the discrimination of s- and t-channel events in single top. The latter has only been observed by CDF, while the other two are found by both CDF and D0.
