We establish estimates for the local and uniform moduli of continuity of the local time of multifractional Brownian motion, $B^H=(B^{H(t)}(t),t\in\mathbb{R}^+)$. An analogue of Chung's law of the iterated logarithm is studied for $B^H$ and used to obtain the pointwise Hölder exponent of the local time. A kind of local asymptotic self-similarity is proved to be satisfied by the local time of $B^H$.
In this paper, we first introduce multifrational Riemann-Liouville Brownian sheets. Then, we show a result of approximation in law of the multifractional Riemann-Liouville Brownian sheet. The construction of these approximations is based on a sequence of I.I.D random variables.
Let $B_{H}(t), t\geq [0,T], T\in(0,\infty)$ be the standard Multifractional Brownian Motion(mBm), in this contribution we are concerned with the exact asymptotics of \begin{eqnarray*} \mathbb{P}\left\{\sup_{t\in[0,T]}B_{H}(t)>u\right\} \end{eqnarray*} as $u\rightarrow\infty$. Mainly depended on the structures of $H(t)$, the results under several important cases are investigated.
We study the pointwise regularity of the Multifractional Brownian Motion and in particular, we get the existence of slow points. It shows that a non self-similar process can still enjoy this property. We also consider various extensions of our results in the aim of requesting a weaker regularity assumption for the Hurst function without altering the regularity of the process.
In this paper, firstly, we generalize the definition of the bifractional Brownian motion $B^{H,K}:=\Big(B^{H,K}\;;\;t\geq 0\Big)$, with parameters $H\in(0,1)$ and $K\in(0,1]$, to the case where $H$ is no longer a constant, but a function $H(.)$ of the time index $t$ of the process. We denote this new process by $B^{H(.),K}$. Secondly, we study its time regularities, the local asymptotic self-similarity and the long-range dependence properties. {\bf Key words:} {Gaussian process; Self similar process; Fractional Brownian motion; Bifractional Brownian motion; Multifractional Brownian motion; Loc…
We present the expansion of the multifractional Brownian (mBm) local time in higher dimensions, in terms of Wick powers of white noises (or multiple Wiener integrals). If a suitable number of kernels is subtracted, they exist in the sense of generalized white noise functionals. Moreover we show the convergence of the regularized truncated local times for mBm in the sense of Hida distributions.
Multifractional Brownian motion is an extension of the well-known fractional Brownian motion where the Holder regularity is allowed to vary along the paths. In this paper, two kind of multi-parameter extensions of mBm are studied: one is isotropic while the other is not. For each of these processes, a moving average representation, a harmonizable representation, and the covariance structure are given. The Holder regularity is then studied. In particular, the case of an irregular exponent function H is investigated. In this situation, the almost sure pointwise and local Holder exponents of the …
We construct the least-square estimator for the unknown drift parameter in the multifractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck model and establish its strong consistency in the non-ergodic case. The proofs are based on the asymptotic bounds with probability 1 for the rate of the growth of the trajectories of multifractional Brownian motion (mBm) and of some other functionals of mBm, including increments and fractional derivatives. As the auxiliary results having independent interest, we produce the asymptotic bounds with probability 1 for the rate of the growth of the trajectories of the general Gaussian p…
Stochastic integration w.r.t. fractional Brownian motion (fBm) has raised strong interest in recent years, motivated in particular by applications in finance and Internet traffic modelling. Since fBm is not a semi-martingale, stochastic integration requires specific developments. Multifractional Brownian motion (mBm) is a Gaussian process that generalizes fBm by letting the local Hölder exponent vary in time. This is useful in various areas, including financial modelling and biomedicine. In this work we start from the fact, established in \cite[Thm 2.1.(i)]{fBm_to_mBm_HerbinLebovitsVehel}, tha…
Stochastic calculus with respect to fractional Brownian motion (fBm) has attracted a lot of interest in recent years, motivated in particular by applications in finance and Internet traffic modeling. Multifractional Brownian motion (mBm) is a Gaussian extension of fBm that allows to control the pointwise regularity of the paths of the process and to decouple it from its long range dependence properties. This generalization is obtained by replacing the constant Hurst parameter H of fBm by a function h(t). Multifractional Brownian motion has proved useful in many applications, including the ones…
The geometry of the multifractional Brownian motion (mBm) is known to present a complex and surprising form when the Hurst function is greatly irregular. Nevertheless, most of the literature devoted to the subject considers sufficiently smooth cases which lead to sample paths locally similar to a fractional Brownian motion (fBm). The main goal of this paper is therefore to extend these results to a more general frame and consider any type of continuous Hurst function. More specifically, we mainly focus on obtaining a complete characterization of the pointwise Hölder regularity of the sample pa…
This paper presents a new estimator of the global regularity index of a multifractional Brownian motion. Our estimation method is based upon a ratio statistic, which compares the realized global quadratic variation of a multifractional Brownian motion at two different frequencies. We show that a logarithmic transformation of this statistic converges in probability to the minimum of the Hurst function, which is, under weak assumptions, identical to the global regularity index of the path.
Generalizations of tempered fractional Brownian from single index to two indices and variable index or tempered multifractional Brownian motion are studied. Tempered fractional Brownian motion and tempered multifractional Brownian motion with variable tempering parameter are considered.
We introduce the notion of linear multifractional stable sheets in the broad sense (LMSS) with $α\in(0,2]$, to include both linear multifractional Brownian sheets ($α=2$) and linear multifractional stable sheets ($α<2$). The purpose of the present paper is to study the existence and joint continuity of the local times of LMSS, and also the local Hölder condition of the local times in the set variable. Among the main results of this paper, Theorem 2.4 provides a sufficient and necessary condition for the existence of local times of LMSS; Theorem 3.1 shows a sufficient condition for the joint co…
We present a general method for constructing stochastic processes with prescribed local form. Such processes include variable amplitude multifractional Brownian motion, multifractional $α$-stable processes, and multistable processes, that is processes that are locally $α(t)$-stable but where the stability index $α(t)$ varies with $t$. In particular we construct multifractional multistable processes where both the local self-similarity and stability indices vary.
We propose a wavelet-based approach to construct consistent estimators of the pointwise Hölder exponent of a multifractional Brownian motion, in the case where this underlying process is not directly observed. The relative merits of our estimator are discussed, and we introduce an application to the problem of estimating the functional parameter of a nonlinear model.
We investigate here the Central Limit Theorem of the Increment Ratio Statistic of a multifractional Brownian motion, leading to a CLT for the time varying Hurst index. The proofs are quite simple relying on Breuer-Major theorems and an original freezing of time strategy. A simulation study shows the goodness of fit of this estimator.
In this article we will present a new perspective on the variable order fractional calculus, which allows for differentiation and integration to a variable order, i.e. one differentiates (or integrates) a function along the path of a regularity function. The concept of multifractional calculus has been a scarcely studied topic within the field of functional analysis in the last 20 years. We develop a multifractional derivative operator which acts as the inverse of the multifractional integral operator. This is done by solving the Abel integral equation generalized to a multifractional order. W…
Denote by $H(t)=(H_1(t),...,H_N(t))$ a function in $t\in{\mathbb{R}}_+^N$ with values in $(0,1)^N$. Let $\{B^{H(t)}(t)\}=\{B^{H(t)}(t),t\in{\mathbb{R}}^N_+\}$ be an $(N,d)$-multifractional Brownian sheet (mfBs) with Hurst functional $H(t)$. Under some regularity conditions on the function $H(t)$, we prove the existence, joint continuity and the Hölder regularity of the local times of $\{B^{H(t)}(t)\}$. We also determine the Hausdorff dimensions of the level sets of $\{B^{H(t)}(t)\}$. Our results extend the corresponding results for fractional Brownian sheets and multifractional Brownian motion…
We define multifractional Hermite processes which generalize and extend both multifractional Brownian motion and Hermite processes. It is done by substituting the Hurst parameter in the definition of Hermite processes as a multiple Wiener-Itô integral by a Hurst function. Then, we study the pointwise regularity of these processes, their local asymptotic self-similarity and some fractal dimensions of their graph. Our results show that the fundamental properties of multifractional Hermite processes are, as desired, governed by the Hurst function. Complements are given in the second order Wiener …
This paper is devoted to establish an invariance principle where the limit process is a multifractional Gaussian process with a multifractional function which takes its values in $(1/2,1)$. Some properties, such as regularity and local self-similarity of this process are studied. Moreover the limit process is compared to the multifractional Brownian motion.
This contribution derives the exact asymptotic behaviour of the supremum of alpha(t)-locally stationary Gaussian random fields over a finite hypercube. We present two applications of our result; the first one deals with extremes of ggregate multifractional Brownian motions, whereas the second application establishes the exact asymptotics of the supremum of chi-processes generated by multifractional Brownian motions.
The study of path behaviour of stochastic processes is a classical topic in probability theory and related areas. In this frame, a natural question one can address is: whether or not sample paths belong to a critical Hölder space? The answer to this question is negative in the case of Brownian motion and many other stochastic processes: it is well-known that despite the fact that Brownian paths satisfy, on each compact interval $I$, a Hölder condition of any order strictly less than $1/2$, they fail to belong to the critical Hölder space $\mathcal{C}^{1/2}(I)$. In this article, we show that a …
In Ayache and Taqqu (2005), the multifractional Brownian (mBm) motion is obtained by replacing the constant parameter $H$ of the fractional Brownian motion (fBm) by a smooth enough functional parameter $H(.)$ depending on the time $t$. Here, we consider the process $Z$ obtained by replacing in the wavelet expansion of the fBm the index $H$ by a function $H(.)$ depending on the dyadic point $k/2^j$. This process was introduced in Benassi et al (2000) to model fBm with piece-wise constant Hurst index and continuous paths. In this work, we investigate the case where the functional parameter satis…
We study the small ball asymptotics problem in $L_2$ for two generalizations of the fractional Brownian motion with variable Hurst parameter. To this end, we perform careful analysis of the singular values asymptotics for associated integral operators.
In this paper the whole family of fractional Brownian motions is constructed as a single Gaussian field indexed by time and the Hurst index simultaneously. The field has a simple covariance structure and it is related to two generalizations of fractional Brownian motion known as multifractional Brownian motions. A mistake common to the existing literature regarding multifractional Brownian motions is pointed out and corrected. The Gaussian field, due to inherited ``duality'', reveals a new way of constructing martingales associated with the odd and even part of a fractional Brownian motion and…
The study of non-stationary processes whose local form has controlled properties is a fruitful and important area of research, both in theory and applications. We present here a construction of multifractional multistable processes, based on the Ferguson-Klass-LePage series representation of stable processes. We consider various particular cases of interest, including multistable Lévy motion, multistable reverse Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, log-fractional multistable motion and linear multistable multifractional motion. We also compute the finite dimensional distributions of those processes. Fi…
Multistable processes, that is, processes which are, at each "time", tangent to a stable process, but where the index of stability varies along the path, have been recently introduced as models for phenomena where the intensity of jumps is non constant. In this work, we give further results on (multifractional) multistable processes related to their local structure. We show that, under certain conditions, the incremental moments display a scaling behaviour, and that the pointwise exponent is, as expected, lower than the localisability index.
This work defines two classes of processes, that we term {\it tempered fractional multistable motion} and {\it tempered multifractional stable motion}. They are extensions of fractional multistable motion and multifractional stable motion, respectively, obtained by adding an exponential tempering to the integrands. We investigate certain basic features of these processes, including scaling property, tail probabilities, absolute moment, sample path properties, pointwise Hölder exponent, Hölder continuity of quasi norm, (strong) localisability and semi-long-range dependence structure. These proc…
Linear Multifractional Stable Motion (LMSM), denoted by $\{Y(t):t\in\R\}$, has been introduced by Stoev and Taqqu in 2004-2005, by substituting to the constant Hurst parameter of a classical Linear Fractional Stable Motion (LFSM), a deterministic function $H(\cdot)$ depending on the time variable $t$; we always suppose $H(\cdot)$ to be continuous and with values in $(1/\al,1)$, also, in general we restrict its range to a compact interval. The main goal of our article is to make a comprehensive study of the local and asymptotic behavior of $\{Y(t):t\in\R\}$; to this end, one needs to derive fin…
Stochastic integration \textit{wrt} Gaussian processes has raised strong interest in recent years, motivated in particular by its applications in Internet traffic modeling, biomedicine and finance. The aim of this work is to define and develop a White Noise Theory-based anticipative stochastic calculus with respect to all Gaussian processes that have an integral representation over a real (maybe infinite) interval. Very rich, this class of Gaussian processes contains, among many others, Volterra processes (and thus fractional Brownian motion) as well as processes the regularity of which varies…
We introduce a general class of stochastic processes driven by a multifractional Brownian motion (mBm) and study the estimation problems of their pointwise Hölder exponents (PHE) based on a new localized generalized quadratic variation approach (LGQV). By comparing our suggested approach with the other two existing benchmark estimation approaches (classic GQV and oscillation approach) through a simulation study, we show that our estimator has better performance in the case where the observed process is some unknown bivariate function of time and mBm. Such multifractional processes, whose PHEs …
Tempered fractional Brownian motion is revisited from the viewpoint of reduced fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. Many of the basic properties of the tempered fractional Brownian motion can be shown to be direct consequences or modifications of the properties of fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. Mixed tempered fractional Brownian motion is introduced and its properties are considered. Tempered fractional Brownian motion is generalised from single index to two indices. Finally, tempered multifractional Brownian motion and its properties are studied.
It is well known that, under suitable regularity conditions, the normalized fractional process with fractional parameter $d$ converges weakly to fractional Brownian motion for $d>1/2$. We show that, for any non-negative integer $M$, derivatives of order $m=0,1,\dots,M$ of the normalized fractional process with respect to the fractional parameter $d$, jointly converge weakly to the corresponding derivatives of fractional Brownian motion. As an illustration we apply the results to the asymptotic distribution of the score vectors in the multifractional vector autoregressive model.
Since the middle of the 90's, multifractional processes have been introduced for overcoming some limitations of the classical Fractional Brownian Motion model. In their context, the Hurst parameter becomes a Holder continuous function H(?) of the time variable t. Linear Multifractional Stable Motion (LMSM) is the most known one of them with heavy-tailed distributions. Generally speaking, global and local sample path roughness of a multifractional process are determined by values of its parameter $H(\cdot)$; therefore, since about two decades, several authors have been interested in their stat…
The aim of this work is to define and perform a study of local times of all Gaussian processes that have an integral representation over a real interval (that maybe infinite). Very rich, this class of Gaussian processes, contains Volterra processes (and thus fractional Brownian motion), multifractional Brownian motions as well as processes, the regularity of which varies along the time. Using the White Noise-based anticipative stochastic calculus with respect to Gaussian processes developed in [Leb17], we first establish a Tanaka formula. This allows us to define both weighted and non-weighted…
The signature of Brownian motion in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ over a running time interval $[0,T]$ is the collection of all iterated Stratonovich path integrals along the Brownian motion. We show that, in dimension $d\geq 2$, almost all Brownian motion sample paths (running up to time $T$) are determined by its signature over $[0,T]$
We present some results about connections between Littelmann paths and Brownian paths in the framework of affine Lie algebras. We expect that they will be the first steps on a way which could hopefully lead to a Pitman type theorem for a Brownian motion in an alcove associated to an affine Weyl group.
In this paper, we study rough path properties of stochastic integrals of Itô's type and Stratonovich's type with respect to $G$-Brownian motion. The roughness of $G$-Brownian Motion is estimated and then the pathwise Norris lemma in $G$-framework is obtained.
We introduce the (path-valued) Brownian frame process whose evaluation at time t is the sample path of the underlying Brownian motion run from time t-1 to t. Due to its connections with Gaussian Volterra processes and SDDEs this is an interesting object to study. The first part deals with path-wise properties of the Brownian frame process in the p-variation norm. The second part shows the non-existence of a Levy area random variable in a particular norm, revealing the difficulty in establishing a Rough Path integration theory for the Brownian Frame process.
We give a simple proof that in a Lipschitz domain in two dimensions with Lipschitz constant one, there is pathwise uniqueness for the Skorokhod equation governing reflecting Brownian motion.
The present paper is devoted to the study of sample paths of G-Brownian motion and stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by G-Brownian motion from the view of rough path theory. As the starting point, we show that quasi-surely, sample paths of G-Brownian motion can be enhanced to the second level in a canonical way so that they become geometric rough paths of roughness 2 < p < 3. This result enables us to introduce the notion of rough differential equations (RDEs) driven by G-Brownian motion in the pathwise sense under the general framework of rough paths. Next we establish the funda…
We consider the stochastic continuity equation perturbed by a fractional Brownian motion and the drift is allowed to be discontinuous. We show that for almost all paths of the fractional Brownian motion there exists a solution to the equation.
We prove that a set-indexed process is a set-indexed fractional Brownian motion if and only if its projections on all the increasing paths are one-parameter time changed fractional Brownian motions. As an application, we present an integral representation for such processes.
Starting from the construction of a geometric rough path associated with a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in]{1/4}, {1/2}[$ given by Coutin and Qian (2002), we prove a large deviation principle in the space of geometric rough paths, extending classical results on Gaussian processes. As a by-product, geometric rough paths associated to elements of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space of the fractional Brownian motion are obtained and an explicit integral representation is given.
We consider pairs of 3-dimensional Brownian paths, started at the origin and conditioned to have no intersections after time zero. We show that there exists a unique measure on pairs of paths that is invariant under this conditioning, while improving the previously known rate of convergence to stationarity.
In this paper, we shall study the basic absolute properties of $G$-Brownian motion, i.e., those properties which hold for q.s. $ω$. These include the characterization of the zero set and the local maxima of the $G$-Brownian motion paths. We also show that the indicator function of $G$-Brownian motion is in $\mathbb{L}_G^1(Ω)$, which is an useful tool for the study of $G$-expectation theory.
The generalized fractional Brownian motion is a Gaussian self-similar process whose increments are not necessarily stationary. It appears in applications as the scaling limit of a shot noise process with a power law shape function and non-stationary noises with a power-law variance function. In this paper we study sample path properties of the generalized fractional Brownian motion, including Holder continuity, path differentiability/non-differentiability, and functional and local Law of the Iterated Logarithms.
We consider super-Brownian motion whose historical paths reflect from each other, unlike those of the usual historical super-Brownian motion. We prove tightness for the family of distributions corresponding to a sequence of discrete approximations but we leave the problem of uniqueness of the limit open. We prove a few results about path behavior for processes under any limit distribution. In particular, we show that for any $γ>0$, a "typical" increment of a reflecting historical path over a small time interval $Δt$ is not greater than $(Δt)^{3/4 - γ}$.
We construct in this article a rough path over fractional Brownian motion with arbitrary Hurst index by (i) using the Fourier normal ordering algorithm introduced in \cite{Unt-Holder} to reduce the problem to that of regularizing tree iterated integrals and (ii) applying the Bogolioubov-Parasiuk-Hepp-Zimmermann (BPHZ) renormalization algorithm to Feynman diagrams representing tree iterated integrals.
The Levy transform of a Brownian motion B is the Brownian motion B't, the integral over (O,t) of sign of Bs with respect to dBs. Call T the corresponding transformation on the Wiener space W. We establish that a.s. the orbit of w in W under T is dense in W for the compact uniform convergence topology.
We consider a geometric rough path associated with a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in]{1/4}, {1/2}[$. We give an approximation result in a modulus type distance, up to the second order, by means of a sequence of rough paths lying above elements of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space.
We give a proof of a result on the growth of the number of particles along chosen paths in a branching Brownian motion. The work follows the approach of classical large deviations results, in which paths in $C[0,1]$ are rescaled onto $C[0,T]$ for large $T$. The methods used are probabilistic and take advantage of modern spine techniques.
