We reinvestigate the 2D problem of the inhomogeneous incipient infinite cluster where, in an independent percolation model, the density decays to p_c with an inverse power, λ, of the distance to the origin. Assuming the existence of critical exponents (as is known in the case of the triangular site lattice) if the power is less than 1/ν, with νthe correlation length exponent, we demonstrate an infinite cluster with scale dimension given by D_H=2-βλ. Further, we investigate the critical case λ_c=1/νand show that iterated logarithmic corrections will tip the balance between the possibility and impossibility of an infinite cluster.
In this paper, we study some properties of optimal paths in the first passage percolation on $\Z^d$ and show the followings: (1) the number of optimal paths has an exponential growth if the distribution has an atom; (2) the means of intersection and union of optimal paths are linear in the distance. For the proofs, we use the configuration--flipping argument introduced in [J. van den Berg and H. Kesten. Inequalities for the time constant in first-passage percolation. Ann. Appl. Probab. 56-80, 1993] with suitable adaptions.
We consider the Boolean model on $\R^d$. We prove some equivalences between subcritical percolation properties. Let us introduce some notations to state one of these equivalences. Let $C$ denote the connected component of the origin in the Boolean model. Let $|C|$ denotes its volume. Let $\ell$ denote the maximal length of a chain of random balls from the origin. Under optimal integrability conditions on the radii, we prove that $E(|C|)$ is finite if and only if there exists $A,B >0$ such that $¶(\ell \ge n) \le Ae^{-Bn}$ for all $n \ge 1$.
We give the first properties of independent Bernoulli percolation, for oriented graphs on the set of vertices $\Z^d$ that are translation-invariant and may contain loops. We exhibit some examples showing that the critical probability for the existence of an infinite cluster may be direction-dependent. Then, we prove that the phase transition in a given direction is sharp, and study the links between percolation and first-passage percolation on these oriented graphs.
In this note we study some properties of infinite percolation clusters on non-amenable graphs. In particular, we study the percolative properties of the complement of infinite percolation clusters. An approach based on mass-transport is adapted to show that for a large class of non-amenable graphs, the graph obtained by removing each site contained in an infinite percolation cluster has critical percolation threshold which can be arbitrarily close to the critical threshold for the original graph, almost surely, as p approaches p_c. Closely related is the self-destructive percolation process, i…
Percolation properties of the dead leaves model, also known as confetti percolation, are considered. More precisely, we prove that the critical probability for confetti percolation with square-shaped leaves is 1/2. This result is related to a question of Benjamini and Schramm concerning disk-shaped leaves and can be seen as a variant of the Harris-Kesten theorem for bond percolation. The proof is based on techniques developed by Bollobás and Riordan to determine the critical probability for Voronoi and Johnson-Mehl percolation.
We study a general class of percolation models in Euclidean space including long-range percolation, scale-free percolation, the weight-dependent random connection model and several other previously investigated models. Our focus is on the weak decay regime, in which inter-cluster long-range connection probabilities fall off polynomially with small exponent, and for which we establish several structural properties. Chief among them are the continuity of the bond percolation function and the transience of infinite clusters.
In 2017, Duminil-Copin et al. introduced the OSSS method to study properties of diverse percolation models. This document aims to introduce the reader to this new method. It contains a introduction to percolation theory, then concentrates on the case of Poisson-Boolean percolation. The majority of this document is dedicated to an detailed analysis of [DRT18]. This work is the result of an internship in Summer 2019 with Jean-Baptiste Gouéré at the University of Tours.
Partially motivated by the desire to better understand the connectivity phase transition in fractal percolation, we introduce and study a class of continuum fractal percolation models in dimension d greater than or equal to 2. These include a scale invariant version of the classical (Poisson) Boolean model of stochastic geometry and (for d=2) the Brownian loop soup introduced by Lawler and Werner. The models lead to random fractal sets whose connectivity properties depend on a parameter lambda. In this paper we mainly study the transition between a phase where the random fractal sets are total…
We consider percolation properties of the Boolean model generated by a Gibbs point process and balls with deterministic radius. We show that for a large class of Gibbs point processes there exists a critical activity, such that percolation occurs a.s. above criticality. For locally stable Gibbs point processes we show a converse result, i.e. they do not percolate a.s. at low activity.
We consider the percolation problem in the high-temperature Ising model on the two-dimensional square lattice at or near critical external fields. The incipient infinite cluster (IIC) measure in the sense of Kesten is constructed. As a consequence, we can obtain some geometric properties of IIC. The result holds also for the triangular lattice.
We consider an i.i.d. supercritical bond percolation on Z^d , every edge is open with a probability p > p\_c (d), where p\_c (d) denotes the critical parameter for this percolation. We know that there exists almost surely a unique infinite open cluster C\_p [11]. We are interested in the regularity properties of the chemical distance for supercritical Bernoulli percolation. The chemical distance between two points x, y $\in$ C\_p corresponds to the length of the shortest path in C\_p joining the two points. The chemical distance between 0 and nx grows asymptotically like n$μ$\_p (x). We aim to…
For the Gaussian free field on a $(d + 1)$-regular tree with $d \geq 2$, we study the percolative properties of its level sets in the critical and the near-critical regime. In particular, we show the continuity of the percolation probability, derive an exact symptotic tail estimate for the cardinality of the connected component of the critical level set, and describe the asymptotic behaviour of the percolation probability in the near-critical regime.
We study the porosity properties of fractal percolation sets $E\subset\mathbb{R}^d$. Among other things, for all $0<\varepsilon<\tfrac12$, we obtain dimension bounds for the set of exceptional points where the upper porosity of $E$ is less than $\tfrac12-\varepsilon$, or the lower porosity is larger than $\varepsilon$. Our method works also for inhomogeneous fractal percolation and more general random sets whose offspring distribution gives rise to a Galton-Watson process.
Random graphs have played an instrumental role in modelling real-world networks arising from the internet topology, social networks, or even protein-interaction networks within cells. Percolation, on the other hand, has been the fundamental model for understanding robustness and spread of epidemics on these networks. From a mathematical perspective, percolation is one of the simplest models that exhibits phase transition, and fascinating features are observed around the critical point. In this thesis, we prove limit theorems about structural properties of the connected components obtained from…
We study percolation properties of the upper invariant measure of the contact process on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. Our main result is a sharp percolation phase transition with exponentially small clusters throughout the subcritical regime and a mean-field lower bound for the infinite cluster density in the supercritical regime. This generalizes and simplifies an earlier result of Van den Berg [Ann. App. Prob., 2011], who proved a sharp percolation phase transition on $\mathbb{Z}^2$. Our proof relies on the OSSS inequality for Boolean functions and is inspired by a series of papers by Duminil-Copin, Raou…
We consider generic finite range percolation models on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ under a high temperature assumption (exponential decay of connection probabilities and exponential ratio weak mixing). We prove that the rate of decay of point-to-point connections exists in every directions and show that it naturally extends to a norm on $\mathbb{R}^d$. This result is the base input to obtain fine understanding of the high temperature phase and is usually proven using correlation inequalities (such as FKG). The present work makes no use of such model specific properties.
In this short note we consider mixed short-long range independent bond percolation models on $\Z^{k+d}$. Let $p_{uv}$ be the probability that the edge $(u,v)$ will be open. Allowing a $x,y$-dependent length scale and using a multi-scale analysis due to Aizenman and Newman, we show that the long distance behavior of the connectivity $τ_{xy}$ is governed by the probability $p_{xy}$. The result holds up to the critical point.
Parafermionic observables were introduced by Smirnov for planar FK percolation in order to study the critical phase $(p,q)=(p_c(q),q)$. This article gathers several known properties of these observables. Some of these properties are used to prove the divergence of the correlation length when approaching the critical point for FK percolation when $1\le q\le 4$. A crucial step is to consider FK percolation on the universal cover of the punctured plane. We also mention several conjectures on FK percolation with arbitrary cluster-weight $q>0$.
We define a modification of the Erdos-Renyi random graph process which can be regarded as the mean field frozen percolation process. We describe the behavior of the process using differential equations and investigate their solutions in order to show the self-organized critical and extremum properties of the critical frozen percolation model. We prove two limit theorems about the distribution of the size of the component of a typical frozen vertex.
We reconsider the problem of percolation on an equilibrium random network with degree-degree correlations between nearest-neighboring vertices focusing on critical singularities at a percolation threshold. We obtain criteria for degree-degree correlations to be irrelevant for critical singularities. We present examples of networks in which assortative and disassortative mixing leads to unusual percolation properties and new critical exponents.
Bond-percolation graphs are random subgraphs of the d-dimensional integer lattice generated by a standard bond-percolation process. The associated graph Laplacians, subject to Dirichlet or Neumann conditions at cluster boundaries, represent bounded, self-adjoint, ergodic random operators with off-diagonal disorder. They possess almost surely the non-random spectrum [0,4d] and a self-averaging integrated density of states. The integrated density of states is shown to exhibit Lifshits tails at both spectral edges in the non-percolating phase. While the characteristic exponent of the Lifshits tai…
We study dimensional properties of visible parts of fractal percolation in the plane. Provided that the dimension of the fractal percolation is at least 1, we show that, conditioned on non-extinction, almost surely all visible parts from lines are 1-dimensional. Furthermore, almost all of them have positive and finite Hausdorff measure. We also verify analogous results for visible parts from points. These results are motivated by an open problem on the dimensions of visible parts.
We continue the study of infinite geodesics in planar first-passage percolation, pioneered by Newman in the mid 1990s. Building on more recent work of Hoffman, and Damron and Hanson, we develop an ergodic theory for infinite geodesics via the study of what we shall call `random coalescing geodesics'. Random coalescing geodesics have a range of nice asymptotic properties, such as asymptotic directions and linear Busemann functions. We show that random coalescing geodesics are (in some sense) dense in the space of geodesics. This allows us to extrapolate properties from random coalescing geodesi…
We study the spectral properties of matrices of long-range percolation model. These are N\times N random real symmetric matrices H=\{H(i,j)\}_{i,j} whose elements are independent random variables taking zero value with probability 1-ψ((i-j)/b), b\in \mathbb{R}^{+}, where $ψ$ is an even positive function with ψ(t)\le{1} and vanishing at infinity. We study the resolvent G(z)=(H-z)^{-1}, Imz\neq{0} in the limit N,b\to\infty, b=O(N^α), 1/3<α<1 and obtain the explicit expression T(z_{1},z_{2}) for the leading term of the correlation function of the normalized trace of resolvent g_{N,b}(z)=N^{-1}Tr …
We use SLE(6) paths to construct a process of continuum nonsimple loops in the plane and prove that this process coincides with the full continuum scaling limit of 2D critical site percolation on the triangular lattice -- that is, the scaling limit of the set of all interfaces between different clusters. Some properties of the loop process, including conformal invariance, are also proved.
We derive three critical exponents for Bernoulli site percolation on the on the Uniform Infinite Planar Triangulation (UIPT). First we compute explicitly the probability that the root cluster is infinite. As a consequence, we show that the off-critical exponent for site percolation on the UIPT is $β= 1/2$. Then we establish an integral formula for the generating function of the number of vertices in the root cluster. We use this formula to prove that, at criticality, the probability that the root cluster has at least $n$ vertices decays like $n^{-1/7}$. Finally, we also derive an expression fo…
