Positive frequency Wightman function, vacuum expectation values of the field square and the energy-momentum tensor induced by a Z_{2}-symmetric brane with finite thickness located on (D+1)- dimensional AdS background are evaluated for a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling parameter. For the general case of static plane symmetric interior structure the expectation values in the region outside the brane are presented as the sum of free AdS and brane induced parts. For a conformally coupled massless scalar the brane induced part in the vacuum energy-momentum tensor vanishes. In the limit of strong gravitational fields the brane induced parts are exponentially suppressed for points not too close to the brane boundary. As an application of general results a special model is considered in which the geometry inside the brane is a slice of the Minkowski spacetime orbifolded along the direction perpendicular to the brane. For this model the Wightman function, vacuum expectation values of the field square and the energy-momentum tensor inside the brane are evaluated as well and their behavior is discussed in various asymptotic regions of the parameters. It is shown that for both minimally and conformally coupled scalar fields the interior vacuum forces acting on the brane boundaries tend to decrease the brane thickness.
We study the time evolution of Wightman two-point functions of scalar fields in AdS$_3$-Vaidya, a spacetime undergoing gravitational collapse. In the boundary field theory, the collapse corresponds to a quench process where the dual 1+1 dimensional CFT is taken out of equilibrium and subsequently thermalizes. From the two-point function, we extract an effective occupation number in the boundary theory and study how it approaches the thermal Bose-Einstein distribution. We find that the Wightman functions, as well as the effective occupation numbers, thermalize with a rate set by the lowest quas…
The Schwinger-Dyson equations for Green functions and 3-vertexes in planar approximation used 50 years ago in the earlier theory of conformal bootstrap are written in frames of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The technique of "Wightman-Witten" diagrams is used in calculations of the bubble bulk diagrams that permitted to obtain the values of conformal dimensions of primary operators in two models of the interacting bulk scalar fields which conformal dimensions obey "extremal" relation. Simple expressions for the four-point tree "Wightman-Witten" correlators of these primary operators are obtained …
In the AdS/CFT correspondence eternal black holes can be viewed as a specific entanglement between two copies of the CFT: the thermofield double. The statistical CFT Wightman function can be computed from a geodesic between the two boundaries of the Kruskal extended black hole and therefore probes the geometry behind the horizon. We construct a kernel for the AdS3/CFT2 Wightman function that is independent of the entanglement. This kernel equals the average off-diagonal matrix element squared of a primary operator. This allows us to compute the Wightman function for an arbitrary entanglement b…
Positive frequency Wightman function and vacuum expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor are computed for a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling parameter subject to Robin boundary conditions on two parallel plates located on $D+1$ - dimensional AdS background. The general case of different Robin coefficients on separate plates is considered. The mode summation method is used with a combination of a variant of the generalized Abel-Plana formula for the series over zeros of combinations of cylinder functions. This allows us to extract manifestly the parts due to the AdS s…
Wightman function and vacuum expectation value of the field square are evaluated for a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling parameter subject to Robin boundary conditions on two codimension one parallel branes located on $(D+1)$-dimensional background spacetime $AdS_{D_1+1}\times Σ$ with a warped internal space $Σ$. The general case of different Robin coefficients on separate branes is considered. The application of the generalized Abel-Plana formula for the series over zeros of combinations of cylinder functions allows us to extract manifestly the part due to the bulk without …

For the general case of static plane symmetric interior structure the expectation values in the region outside the brane are presented as the sum of free AdS and brane induced parts. In this paper, we analyze the vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of the field squared and the energy-momentum tensor associated with a charged and massive scalar quantum field in a generalized $(D+1)$-dimensional anti-de Sitter space in the presence of a cosmic string, admitting a magnetic flux running along the string's core. In addition we admit that an extra coordinate is compactified to a circle and presents a magnetic flux running along its center. This compactification is implemented by imposing a quasiperiodic condition on the field with an arbitrary phase. The calculation of the VEVs of …
We consider the problem of defining spacelike-supported boundary-to-bulk propagators in AdS$_{d+1}$ down to the unitary bound $Δ=(d-2)/2$. That is to say, we construct the `smearing functions' $K$ of HKLL but with different boundary conditions where both dimensions $Δ_+$ and $Δ_-$ are taken into account. More precisely, we impose Robin boundary conditions, which interpolate between Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions and we give explicit expressions for the distributional kernel $K$ with spacelike support. This flow between boundary conditions is known to be captured in the boundary by a…
We provide a new general setting for scalar interacting fields on the covering of a d+1-dimensional AdS spacetime. The formalism is used at first to construct a one-paramater family of field theories, each living on a corresponding spacetime submanifold of AdS, which is a cylinder $R\times S_{d-1}$. We then introduce a limiting procedure which directly produces Luescher-Mack CFT's on the covering of the AdS asymptotic cone. Our AdS/CFT correspondence is generally valid for interacting fields, and is illustrated by a complete treatment of two-point functions, the case of Klein-Gordon fields app…
Motivated by structural issues in the AdS-CFT correspondence, the theory of generalized free fields is reconsidered. A stress-energy tensor for the generalized free field is constructed as a limit of Wightman fields. Although this limit is singular, it fulfils the requirements of a conserved local density for the Poincar'e generators. An explicit "holographic" formula relating the Klein-Gordon field on AdS to generalized free fields on Minkowski space-time is provided, and contrasted with the "algebraic" notion of holography. A simple relation between the singular stress-energy tensor and the …
In this paper we investigate the vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of the field squared and the energy-momentum tensor associated with a massive scalar quantum field induced by a generalized cosmic string in D-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. In order to develop this analysis we evaluate the corresponding Wightman function. As we shall observe, this function is expressed as the sum of two terms: the first one corresponds to the Wightman function in pure AdS bulk and the second one is induced by the presence of the string. The second contribution is finite at coincidence limit and is …
For a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling we evaluate the Wightman function in the geometry of two parallel branes perpendicular to the AdS boundary. On the separate branes, the field operator is constrained by Robin boundary conditions, in general, with different coefficients. In the region between the branes their contribution to the Wightman function is explicitly separated. By using this decomposition, the brane-induced effects on the vacuum expectation values (VEVs) for the field squared and energy-momentum tensor are investigated. The behavior of those expectation values…
Different from the Dirac spinor, the localization of a five-dimensional Elko spinor on a brane with codimension one is very difficult because of the special structure of the Elko spinor. By introducing the coupling between the Elko spinor and the scalar field generating the brane, we have two mechanisms for localization of the zero mode of a five-dimensional Elko spinor on a brane. One is the Yukawa-type coupling and the other is the non-minimal coupling. In this paper, we investigate the localization of the Elko zero mode on de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter thick branes with the two localization …
In this master thesis a configuration space method presented by C. Dullemond and E. van Beveren for computing all propagators of a scalar field (Wightman, Hadamard and Schwinger functions, retarded, advanced and Feynman propagator) is reviewed for four-dimensional Minkowski and Anti de Sitter spacetime AdS_4. This method is then applied for AdS_d as well as de Sitter spacetime dS_d of arbitrary dimension d, obtaining results in agreement with the literature. The advantages of the method are that it needs neither mode summation nor analytic continuation from euclidean time, while delivering the …
We investigate the Wightman function, the vacuum expectation values of the field squared and the energy-momentum tensor for a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling parameter subject to Robin boundary conditions on two codimension one parallel branes located on $(D+1)$-dimensional background spacetime $AdS_{D_{1}+1}\times Σ$ with a warped internal space $Σ$. The general case of different Robin coefficients on separate branes is considered. Unlike to the purely AdS bulk, the vacuum expectation values induced by a single brane, in addition to the distance from the brane, depends al…
We discuss thick domain walls interpolating between spaces with naked singularities and give arguments based on the $AdS$/CFT correspondence why such singularities may be physically meaningful. Our examples include thick domain walls with Minkowski, de Sitter, and anti-de Sitter geometries on the four-dimensional slice. For flat domain walls we can solve the equivalent quantum mechanics problem exactly, which provides the spectrum of graviton states. In one of the examples we discuss, the continuum states have a mass gap. We compare the graviton spectra with expectations from the $AdS$/CFT cor…
In this paper, we investigate localization of a free massless $q-$form bulk field on thin and thick $AdS_{p+1}$ branes with codimension one. It is found that the zero mode of the $q-$form field with $q>(p+2)/2$ can be localized on the thin negative tension brane, which is different from the flat brane case given in [JHEP 10 (2012) 060]. For the thick $AdS_{p+1}$ branes, the $q-$form field with $q>(p+2)/2$ also has a localized zero mode under some conditions. Furthermore, we find that there are massive bound KK modes of the $q-$form field, which are localized on this type $p-$branes.
Equations of motion for a real self-gravitating scalar field in the background of a black hole with negative cosmological constant were solved numerically. We obtain a sequence of static axisymmetric solutions representing thick domain wall cosmological black hole systems, depending on the mass of black hole, cosmological parameter and the parameter binding black hole mass with the width of the domain wall. For the case of extremal cosmological black hole the expulsion of scalar field from the black hole strongly depends on it.
We investigate the Wightman function, the mean field squared and the vacuum expectation values of energy-momentum tensor for a scalar field in AdS spacetime, in the presence of a brane perpendicular to the AdS boundary. On the brane the field operator obeys Robin boundary condition. The vacuum expectation values are decomposed into the boundary-free AdS and brane-induced contributions. In this way, for points away from the brane, the renormalization is reduced to the one in pure AdS spacetime. It is shown that at proper distances from the brane larger than the AdS curvature radius the brane-in…
We consider localization of gravity on thick branes with a non trivial structure. Double walls that generalize the thick Randall-Sundrum solution, and asymmetric walls that arise from a Z_2-symmetric scalar potential, are considered. We present a new asymmetric solution: a thick brane interpolating between two AdS_5 spacetimes with different cosmological constants, which can be derived from a ``fake supergravity'' superpotential, and show that it is possible to confine gravity on such branes.
We present novel methods to numerically address the problem of characterizing the response of particle detectors in curved spacetimes. These methods allow for the integration of the Wightman function, at least in principle, in rather general backgrounds. In particular we will use this tool to further understand the nature of conformal massless scalar Hawking radiation from a Schwarzschild black hole in anti-de Sitter space. We do that by studying an Unruh-DeWitt detector at rest above the horizon and in circular geodesic orbit. The method allows us to see that the response rate shows peaks at …
By presenting the mass-independent potentials of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in the corresponding Schrödinger equations, we investigate the localization and mass spectra of various bulk matter fields on an AdS thick brane. For a spin 0 scalar $Φ$ coupled with itself and the domain-wall-forming field $ϕ$ via a coupling potential $V=(λϕ^{2}-u^{2})Φ^{2}+τΦ^{4}$, the localization and spectrum are decided by a critical coupling constant $λ_{0}$. When $λ>λ_0$, the potential of the scalar KK modes in the corresponding Schrödinger equation tends to infinite when far away from the brane, which results …
We consider chiral fermion confinement in scalar thick branes, which are known to localize gravity, coupled through a Yukawa term. The conditions for the confinement and their behavior in the thin-wall limit are found for various different BPS branes, including double walls and branes interpolating between different AdS_5 spacetimes. We show that only one massless chiral mode is localized in all these walls, whenever the wall thickness is keep finite. We also show that, independently of wall's thickness, chiral fermionic modes cannot be localized in dS_4 walls embedded in a M_5 spacetime. Fina…
In this paper, we investigate the localization and the mass spectra of gravity and various bulk matter fields on a thick anti-de Sitter (AdS) brane, by presenting the mass-independent potentials of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in the corresponding Schrödinger equations. For gravity, the potential of the KK modes tends to infinity at the boundaries of the extra dimension, which leads to an infinite number of the bound KK modes. Although the gravity zero mode cannot be localized on the AdS brane, the massive modes are trapped on the brane. The scalar perturbations of the thick AdS brane have been…
We make an analysis about several aspects of localization of a scalar field and a Kalb-Ramond gauge field in a specific four dimensional AdS membrane embedded in a five dimensional space-time. The membrane is generated from a deformation of the $λϕ^4$ potential and belongs to a new class of defect solutions. The study of deformed defects is important because they contain internal structures and these may have implications to the way the background space-time is constructed and the way its curvature behaves. The main objective is to observe the contributions of the deformation procedure to the …
Three self-gravitating $SO(10)$ domain walls in five dimensions are obtained and their properties are analyzed. These non-abelian domain walls interpolate between AdS${}_5$ spacetimes with different embedding of $SU(5)$ in $SO(10)$ and they can be distinguished, among other features, by the unbroken group on each wall, being either $SO(10)$, $SO(6)\otimes SU(2)\otimes U(1)/Z_2$ or $SU(4)\otimes SO(2)\otimes U(1)/Z_4$. We show that, unlike Minkowskian versions, the curved scenarios are perturbatively stable due to the gravitational capture of scalar fluctuations associated to the residual ortho…
In this paper we analyze the local localization of gravity in $AdS_4$ thick brane embedded in $AdS_5$ space. The 3-brane is modelled by domain wall solution of a theory with a bulk scalar field coupled to five-dimensional gravity. In addition to small four-dimensional cosmological constant, the vacuum expectation value (vev) of the scalar field controls the emergence of a localized four-dimensional quasi-zero mode. We introduce high temperature effects, and we show that gravity localization on a thick 3-brane is favored below a critical temperature $T_c$. These investigations suggest the appea…
We present the generalized Friedmann equations describing the cosmological evolution of a finite thick brane immeresed in a five-dimensional Schwarzschild Anti-de Sitter spacetime. A linear term in the density in addition to a quatratic one arises in the Friedmann equation, leading to the standard cosmological evolution at late times without introducing an ad hoc tension term for the brane. The effective four-dimensional cosmological constant is then uplifted similar to the KKLT effect and vanishes for a brane thickness equal to the AdS curvature size, up to the third order of the thickness. T…
In this paper, we investigate a $6$-dimensional smooth thick braneworld model which contains a compact extra dimension and an infinite large one. The braneworld is generated by a real scalar field with a $ϕ^6$ potential and the bulk is asymptotically $\text{AdS}_6$ spacetime. The geometry achieves the localization of the free $U(1)$ gauge field, which is a problem in the $5$-dimensional Randall-Sundrum-like models. In addition, we analyze the stability of the braneworld system and the localization of gravitons.
Hints on the possible localization of fermions on double thick D-branes (Domain Walls) are found by analyzing the moduli space of parameters. Deeper analysis toward this direction might help to select phenomenologically plausible models. A new kind of condition for fermion localization is proposed. This might be useful in multi-brane-world scenarios, which are important when symmetry breaking is considered in the AdS/CFT formalism, as well as in curved brane-worlds.
A three-parameter (positive odd integer $s$, thickness factor $λ$, and asymmetry factor $a$) family of asymmetric thick brane solutions in five dimensions were constructed from a two-parameter ($s$ and $λ$) family of symmetric ones in [R. Guerrero, R.O. Rodriguez, and R. Torrealba, Phys. Rev. D \textbf{72}, 124012 (2005).]. The values $s=1$ and $s\geq3$ correspond to single branes and double branes, respectively. These branes have very rich inner structure. In this paper, by presenting the mass-independent potentials of Kaluza--Klein (KK) modes in the corresponding Schrödinger equations, we in…
The formation of a thick brane in five-dimen\-sional space-time is investigated when warp geometries of $AdS_5$ type are induced by scalar matter dynamics and triggered by a thin-brane defect. The scalar matter is taken to consist of two fields with $O(2)$ symmetric self interaction and with manifest $O(2)$ symmetry breaking by terms quadratic in fields. One of them serves as a thick brane formation mode around a kink background and another one is of a Higgs-field type which may develop a classical background as well. Scalar matter interacts with gravity in the minimal form and gravity effects…
We investigate the brane models in arbitrary dimensional critical gravity presented in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 181302 (2011)]. For the model of the thin branes with codimension one, the Gibbons-Hawking surface term and the junction conditions are derived, with which the analytical solutions for the flat, AdS, and dS branes are obtained at the critical point of the critical gravity. It is found that all these branes are embedded in an AdS$_{n}$ spacetime, but, in general, the effective cosmological constant $Λ$ of the AdS$_{n}$ spacetime is not equal to the naked one $Λ_0$ in the critical gravit…
We propose a codimension two warped braneworld model within the teleparallel $f(T)$ gravity. By assuming a global vortex as the source, we found a $l=0$ vortex solution that yields to a thick string-like brane. Asymptotically, the bulk geometry converges to an $AdS_6$ spacetime whose cosmological constant is produced by the torsion parameters. Furthermore, the torsion induces an $AdS-dS$ transition on the exterior region. Inside the brane core, the torsion produces an internal structure even for a single complex scalar field. As the torsion parameters vary, the brane undergoes a phase transiti…
Following Campos's work [Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 141602 (2002)], we investigate the effects of temperature on flat, de Sitter (dS), and anti-de Following Campos's work [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{88}, 141602 (2002)], we investigate the effects of temperature on flat, de Sitter (dS), and anti-de Sitter (AdS) thick branes in five-dimensional (5D) warped spacetime, and on the fermion (quasi-)localization. First, in the case of flat brane, when the critical temperature reaches, the solution of the background scalar field and the warp factor is not unique. So the thickness of the flat thick brane is unc…
Wightman function, the vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of the field squared and the energy-momentum tensor are investigated for a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling in a spherically symmetric static background geometry described by two distinct metric tensors inside and outside a spherical boundary. The exterior and interior geometries can correspond to different vacuum states of the same theory. In the region outside the sphere, the contributions in the VEVs, induced by the interior geometry, are explicitly separated. For the special case of the Minkowskian exterior geometr…
The model of a domain wall ("thick" brane) in noncompact five-dimensional space-time is considered with geometries of $AdS_5$ type generated by self-interacting scalar matter. The scalar matter is composed of two fields with O(2) symmetric self interaction. One of them is mixed with gravity scalar modes and plays role of the brane formation mode (due to a kink background) and another one is of a Higgs-field type. The interplay between soft breaking of O(2) symmetry and gravity influence is thoroughly investigated around the critical point of spontaneous $τ$ symmetry breaking when the v.e.v. of…
We make the observation that a brane universe accelerates through its bulk spacetime, and so may be interpreted as an Unruh observer. The bulk vacuum is perceived to be a thermal bath that heats matter fields on the brane. It is shown that, aside from being relevant in the early universe, an asymptotic temperature exists for the brane universe corresponding to late time thermal equilibrium with the bulk. In the simplest case two possible equilibrium points exist, one at the Gibbons-Hawking temperature for an asymptotic de Sitter universe embedded in an Anti-de Sitter bulk and another with a no…
In order to localize $U(1)$ gauge vector field on Randall-Sundrum-like braneworld model with infinite extra dimension, we propose a new kind of non-minimal coupling between the $U(1)$ gauge field and the gravity. We propose three kinds of coupling methods and they all support the localization of zero mode. In addition, one of them can support the localization of massive modes. Moreover, the massive tachyonic modes can be excluded. And our method can be used not only in the thin braneword models but also in the thick ones.
In this paper, we explore the five-dimensional f(T,B) teleparallel modified gravity with f_1(T,B)=T+k_1B^{n_1} and f_2(T,B)=B+k_2T^{n_2} in the brane scenario. Asymptotically, the bulk geometry converges to an AdS_5 spacetime whose cosmological constant is produced by parameters that control torsion and boundary term. The analysis of the energy density condition reveals a splitting brane process satisfying the weak and strong energy conditions for some values of the parameters n_{1,2} and k_{1,2}. In addition, we investigate the behavior of the gravitational perturbations in this scenario. In …
It is known that a five-dimensional free vector field $A_{M}$ cannot be localized on Randall-Sundrum (RS)-like thick branes, namely, the thick branes embedded in asymptotic Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. In order to localize a vector field on the RS-like thick brane, an extra coupling term should be introduced. In this paper, we generalize the geometrical coupling mechanism by adding two mass terms ($αRg^{MN}A_{M}A_{N}+βR^{MN}A_{M}A_{N}$) into the action. We decompose the fundamental vector field $A_{M}$ into three parts: transverse vector part $\hat{A}_μ$, scalar parts $ϕ$ and $A_{5}$. Then,…
In this work we investigate the entropic information on thick brane-worlds scenarios and its consequences. The brane-world entropic information is studied for the sine-Gordon model is and hence the brane-world entropic information measure is shown an accurate way for providing the most suitable values for the bulk AdS curvature. Besides, the brane-world configurational entropy is employed to demonstrate a high organisational degree in the structure of the system configuration, for large values of a parameter of the sine-Gordon model but the one related to the AdS curvature. The Gleiser and Sta…
