We propose a program for finding the cyclicity of period annuli of quadratic systems with centers of genus one. As a first step, we classify all such systems and determine the essential one-parameter quadratic perturbations which produce the maximal number of limit cycles. We compute the associated Poincare-Pontryagin-Melnikov functions whose zeros control the number of limit cycles. To illustrate our approach, we determine the cyclicity of the annuli of two particular reversible systems.

Quadratic differentials in low genus: exceptional and non-varying

We give an algebraic way of distinguishing the components of the exceptional strata of quadratic differentials in genus three and four. The complete list of these strata is (9, -1), (6,3,-1), (3,3,3, -1) in genus three and (12), (9,3), (6,6), (6,3,3) and (3,3,3,3) in genus four. This result is part of a more general investigation of disjointness of Teichmueller curves with divisors of Brill-Noether type on the moduli space of curves. Large Genus Asymptotics for Intersection Numbers and Principal Strata Volumes of Quadratic Differentials

In this paper we analyze the large genus asymptotics for intersection numbers between $ψ$-classes, also called correlators, on the moduli space of stable curves. Our proofs proceed through a combinatorial analysis of the recursive relations (Virasoro constraints) that uniquely determine these correlators, together with a comparison between the coefficients in these relations with the jump probabilities of a certain asymmetric simple random walk. Quadratic centers defining elliptic surfaces

Let $X$ be a quadratic vector field with a center whose generic orbits are algebraic curves of genus one. To each $X$ we associate an elliptic surface (a smooth complex compact surface which is a genus one fibration). Quadratic perturbations of quadratic codimension-four centers

We study the stratum in the set of all quadratic differential systems $\dot{x}=P_2(x,y), \dot{y}=Q_2(x,y)$ with a center, known as the codimension-four case $Q_4$. We construct an orientable holomorphic quadratic differential on a Riemann surface of genus 4 whose SL(2,R)-orbit is closed and has a highly degenerate Kontsevich - Zorich spectrum. This example is related to a previous similar construction in genus 3 by the first author.

On the number of limit cycles in quadratic perturbations of quadratic codimension four centers

This paper is concerned with the bifurcation of limit cycles in general quadratic perturbations of quadratic codimension-four centers $Q_4$. Gavrilov and Iliev set an upper bound of {\it eight} for the number of limit cycles produced from the period annulus around the center. Based on Gavrilov-Iliev's proof, we prove in this paper that the perturbed system has at most five limit cycles which emerge from the period annulus around the center. We also show that there exists a perturbed system with three limit cycles produced by the period annulus of $Q_4$.

Lower bounds for the cyclicity of centers of quadratic three-dimensional systems

We consider quadratic three-dimensional differential systems having a Hopf singular point. We study the cyclicity when the singular point is a center on the center manifold using higher order developments of the Lyapunov constants. As a result, we make a chart of the cyclicity by establishing the lower bounds for several known systems in the literature, among them the Rossler, Lorenz and Moon-Rand systems. Moreover, we obtain an example of a jerk system for which is possible to bifurcate 12 limit-cycles from the center, which is a new lower bound for three-dimensional quadratic systems.

We apply the averaging theory of high order for computing the limit cycles of discontinuous piecewise quadratic and cubic polynomial perturbations of a linear center. Perturbation theory of the quadratic Lotka-Volterra double center

We revisit the bifurcation theory of the Lotka-Volterra quadratic system \begin{eqnarray} X_0 :\left\{\begin{aligned} \dot{x}=& - y -x^2+y^2 ,\\ \dot{y}= &\;\;\;\;x - 2xy \end{aligned} \right. \end{eqnarray} with respect to arbitrary quadratic deformations. A new proof of the classification of Elliptic Foliations induced by real Quadratic Fields with center

In this work, we give a new proof of the classification of the Lotka-Volterra and Reversible foliations, originally given by Gautier.
