Quantum information theory is used to analize various non-linear operations on quantum states. The universal disentanglement machine is shown to be impossible, and partial (negative) results are obtained in the state-dependent case. The efficiency of the transformation of non-orthogonal states into orthogonal ones is discussed.
We present a new approach to simulating Hamiltonian dynamics based on implementing linear combinations of unitary operations rather than products of unitary operations. The resulting algorithm has superior performance to existing simulation algorithms based on product formulas and, most notably, scales better with the simulation error than any known Hamiltonian simulation technique. Our main tool is a general method to nearly deterministically implement linear combinations of nearby unitary operations, which we show is optimal among a large class of methods.
We investigate how originally localized two pieces of quantum information represented by a tensor product of two unknown qudit states are delocalized by performing two-qudit global unitary operations. To characterize the delocalization power of global unitary operations on quantum information, we analyze the necessary and sufficient condition to deterministically relocalize one of the two pieces of quantum information to its original Hilbert space by using only LOCC. We prove that this LOCC one-piece relocalization is possible if and only if the global unitary operation is local unitary equiva…
We found that the Wigner-Yanase skew information, which has been recently proposed as a measure of coherence in [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{113}, 170401(2014)], can increase under a class of operations which may be interpreted as incoherent following the framework of Baumgratz et al., while being phase sensitive.
In this paper, a kind of quantum dialogue (QD) protocols without information leakage assisted by quantum operation is proposed. The participant in charge of preparation can automatically know the collapsed states after quantum operation performed on the prepared quantum states. The other participant is able to know the collapsed states derived from the prepared quantum states through quantum measurement. The information leakage problem is avoided by means of imposing auxiliary quantum operation on the prepared quantum states.
Quantum memory effects can be qualitatively understood as a consequence of an environment-to-system backflow of information. Here, we analyze and compare how this concept is interpreted and implemented in different approaches to quantum non-Markovianity. We study a non-operational approach, defined by the istinguishability between two system states characterized by different initial conditions, and an operational approach, which is defined by the correlation between different outcomes associated to successive measurement processes performed over the system of interest. The differences, limitat…
The original dense coding protocol is achieved via quantum channel generated between a single Cooper pair and a cavity. The dynamics of the coded and decoded information are investigated for different values of the channel's parameters. The efficiency of this channel for coding and decoding information depends on the initial state settings of the Cooper pair. It is shown that, these information increase as the detuning parameter increases or the number of photons inside the cavity decreases. The coded and decoded information increase as the ratio of the capacities between the box and gate decr…
This paper considers the communication over a quantum multiple-unicast network where r sender-receiver pairs communicate independent quantum states. We concretely construct a quantum network code for the quantum multiple-unicast network as a generalization of the code [Song and Hayashi, arxiv:1801.03306, 2018] for the quantum unicast network. When the given node operations are restricted to invertible linear operations between bit basis states and the rates of transmissions and interferences are restricted, our code certainly transmits a quantum state for each sender-receiver pair by n-use of …
We report on transport operations with linear crystals of 40Ca+ ions by applying complex electric time-dependent potentials. For their control we use the information obtained from the ions' fluorescence. We demonstrate that by means of this feedback technique, we can transport a predefined number of ions and also split and unify ion crystals. The feedback control allows for a robust scheme, compensating for experimental errors as it does not rely on a precisely known electrical modeling of the electric potentials in the ion trap beforehand. Our method allows us to generate a self-learning volt…
In the first part of this Dissertation, I study the differences between LOCC (local operations and classical communication) and the more general class of separable operations. I show that the two classes coincide for the case of pure bipartite state input, and derive a set of important consequences. Using similar techniques I also generalize the no-cloning theorem when restricted to separable operations and show that cloning becomes much more restrictive, by providing necessary (and sometimes sufficient) conditions. In the second part I investigate graph states and graph codes with carrier qud…
A reasonable quantum information theory for fermions must respect the parity super-selection rule to comply with the special theory of relativity and the no-signaling principle. This rule restricts the possibility of any quantum state to have a superposition between even and odd parity fermionic states. It thereby characterizes the set of physically allowed fermionic quantum states. Here we introduce the physically allowed quantum operations, in congruence with the parity super-selection rule, that map the set of allowed fermionic states onto itself. We first introduce unitary and projective m…
Even the quantum simulation of simple molecules such as Fe$_2$S$_2$ requires more than 10$^6$ qubits. In order to assess such a multimillion scale of identical qubits and control lines, the silicon platform seems to be one of the most indicated routes as it provides the capability of nanometric, serial and industrial quality fabrication. The maximum amount of quantum information per unit surface and the consequent space constraints on qubit operations are key parameters towards fault-tolerant quantum information processing (QIP) with Si qubits. Such maximum density of quantum information is ex…
All correlation measures, classical and quantum, must be monotonic under local operations. In this paper, we characterize monotonic formulas that are linear combinations of the von Neumann entropies associated with the quantum state of a physical system that has n parts. We show that these formulas form a polyhedral convex cone, which we call the monotonicity cone, and enumerate its facets. We illustrate its structure and prove that it is equivalent to the cone of monotonic formulas implied by strong subadditivity. We explicitly compute its extremal rays for n up to 5. We also consider the sym…
Losses in quantum communication lines severely affect the rates of reliable information transmission and are usually considered to be state-independent. However, the loss probability does depend on the system state in general, with the polarization dependent losses being a prominent example. Here we analyze biased trace decreasing quantum operations that assign different loss probabilities to states and introduce the concept of a generalized erasure channel. We find lower and upper bounds for the classical and quantum capacities of the generalized erasure channel as well as characterize its de…
Large optical nonlinearities can have numerous applications, ranging from the generation of cat-states for optical quantum computation, through to quantum sensing where the sensitivity exceeds Heisenberg scaling in the resources. However, the generation of ultra-large optical nonlinearities has proved immensely challenging experimentally. We describe a novel protocol where one can effectively generate large optical nonlinearities via the conditional application of a linear operation on an optical mode by an ancilla mode, followed by a measurement of the ancilla and corrective operation on the …
We compare three different characterizations of the globalness of bipartite unitary operations, namely, delocalization power, entanglement cost, and entangling power, to investigate global properties of unitary operations. We show that the globalness of the same unitary operation depends on whether input states are given by unknown states representing pieces of quantum information, or a set of known states for the characterization. We extend our analysis on the delocalization power in two ways. First, we show that the delocalization power differs whether the global operation is applied on one …
This article highlights synergies between quantum information science (QIS) and operations research for QIS-curious operations researchers (and vice-versa).
Efficient operation sequences to couple and interchange quantum information between quantum dot spin qubits of different kinds are derived using exchange interactions. In the qubit encoding of a single-spin qubit, a singlet-triplet qubit, and an exchange-only (triple-dot) qubit, some of the single-qubit interactions remain on during the entangling operation; this greatly simplifies the operation sequences that construct entangling operations. In the ideal setup, the gate operations use the intra-qubit exchange interactions only once. The limitations of the entangling sequences are discussed, a…
Let $\cH_A\ot \cH_B$ be a bipartite system and $ρ_{AB}$ a quantum state on $\cH_A\ot \cH_B$, $ρ_A = \Ptr{B}{ρ_{AB}}$, $ρ_B = \Ptr{A}{ρ_{AB}}$. Then each quantum operation $Φ_B$ on the quantum system $\cH_B$ can induce a quantum ensemble $\set{(p_μ,ρ_{A,μ})}$ on quantum system $\cH_A$. In this paper, we show that the Holevo quantity $χ\set{(p_μ,ρ_{A,μ})}$ of the quantum ensemble $\set{(p_μ,ρ_{A,μ})}$ can be upper bounded by both subsystem entropies. By using the result, we answer partly a conjecture of Fannes, de Melo, Roga and Życzkowski.
Distinguishability is a fundamental and operational task generally connected to information applications. In quantum information theory, from the postulates of quantum mechanics it often has an intrinsic limitation, which then dictates and also characterises capabilities of related information tasks. In this work, we consider discrimination between bipartite two-qubit unitary transformations by local operations and classical communication (LOCC) and its relations to entangling capabilities of given unitaries. We show that a pair of entangling unitaries which do not contain local parts, if they…
Using the tool of unitary transformations of the extended receiver we perform simple operations with the non-diagonal elements of the initial sender's density matrix after their transferring to the receiver. These operations are following: turning some matrix elements to zero, rearranging the matrix elements and preparing their linear combinations with required coefficients. We also propose a protocol for solving a system of linear algebraic equations with a system of two equations as an example. Such operations are numerically simulated on the basis of 42-node spin-1/2 chain with the two-qubi…
In this contribution, we introduce a technique to freeze the parameters which describe the accelerated states between two users to be used in the context of quantum cryptography and quantum teleportation. It is assumed that, the two users share different dimension sizes of particles, where we consider a qubit-qutrit system. This technique depends on local operations, where it is allowed that each particle interacts locally with a noisy phase channel. We show that, the possibility of freezing the information of quantum channel between the users depends on the initial state setting parameters, t…

A simple and flexible scheme for high-dimensional linear quantum operations on optical transverse spatial modes is demonstrated. The quantum Fourier transformation (QFT) and quantum state tomography (QST) via symmetric informationally complete positive operator-valued measures (SIC POVMs) are implemented with dimensionality of 15. The matrix fidelity of QFT is 0.85, while the statistical fidelity of SIC POVMs and fidelity of QST are ~0.97 and up to 0.853, respectively. We believe that our device has the potential for further exploration of high-dimensional spatial entanglement provided by spon…
