In this paper we investigate the problem of minimization the Heisenberg's uncertainty relation by the trajectory-coherent states. The conditions of minimization for Hamiltonian and trajectory are obtained. We show that the trajectory-coherent states minimize the Heisenberg's uncertainty relation for special Cauchy problem for the Schrödinger equation only.
We argue that the statistical features of generalized coherent states for power-law potentials based on Heisenberg algebra, presented in a recent paper by Berrada et al (Phys. Lett. A, 375, 298 (2011)) are incorrect.
New quantal states which interpolate between the coherent states of the Heisenberg_Weyl and SU(1,1) algebras are introduced. The interpolating states are obtained as the coherent states of a closed and symmetric algebra which interpolates between the two algebras. The overcompleteness of the interpolating coherent states is established. Differential operator representations in suitable spaces of entire functions are given for the generators of the algebra. A nonsymmetric set of operators to realize the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra is provided and the relevant coherent states are studied.
After reviewing parity measurement based interferometry with twin-Fock states, which allows for super-sensitivity (Heisenberg-limited) and super-resolution, we consider interferometry with two different superpositions of twin-Fock states, namely two-mode squeezed vacuum states and pair coherent states. This study is motivated by the experimental challenge of producing twin-Fock states on opposite sides of a beam splitter. We find that input two-mode squeezed states, while allowing for Heisenberg-limited sensitivity, do not yield super-resolutions, whereas we that find both are possible with in…
We propose a hybrid quantum-classical atomic clock protocol where the interrogation of an ensemble of uncorrelated atoms in a spin-coherent state is used to feedback one (or more) spin-squeezed atomic ensembles toward their optimal phase sensitivity point. This protocol overcomes the stability of a single Ramsey clock and it reaches a Heisenberg-limited stability while avoiding non-destructive measurements. Analytical predictions are compared with numerical simulations of clocks operations including correlated 1/f local oscillator noise.
A central feature of quantum metrology is the possibility of Heisenberg scaling, a quadratic improvement over the limits of classical statistics. This scaling, however, is notoriously fragile to noise. While for some noise types it can be restored through error correction, for other important types, such as dephasing, the Heisenberg scaling appears to be irremediably lost. Here we show that this limitation can sometimes be lifted if the experimenter has the ability to probe physical processes in a coherent superposition of alternative configurations. As a concrete example, we consider the prob…
It is the aim of this paper to show how to construct Perelomov and Barut-Girardello coherent states for a polynomial Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. This algebra depends on r parameters. For some special values of the parameter corresponding to r = 1, the algebra covers the cases of the su(1,1) algebra, the su(2) algebra and the ordinary Weyl-Heisenberg or oscillator algebra. For r arbitrary, the generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra admits finite or infinite-dimensional representations depending on the values of the parameters. Coherent states of the Perelomov type are derived in finite and infinite d…
The interference between coherent and squeezed vacuum light can produce path entangled states with very high fidelities. We show that the phase sensitivity of the above interferometric scheme with parity detection saturates the quantum Cramer-Rao bound, which reaches the Heisenberg-limit when the coherent and squeezed vacuum light are mixed in roughly equal proportions. For the same interferometric scheme, we draw a detailed comparison between parity detection and a symmetric-logarithmic-derivative-based detection scheme suggested by Ono and Hofmann.
High approximations of semiclassical trajectory-coherent states (TCS) and of semiclassical Green function (in the class of semiclassically concentrated states) for the Dirac operator with anomalous Pauli interaction are obtained. For Schrodinger and Dirac operators trajectory-coherent representations are constructed up to any precision with respect to h, h-->0.
In two-dimensional space a subtle point that for the case of both space-space and momentum-momentum noncommuting, different from the case of only space-space noncommuting, the deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebra in noncommutative space is not completely equivalent to the undeformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebra in commutative space is clarified. It follows that there is no well defined procedure to construct the deformed position-position coherent state or the deformed momentum-momentum coherent state from the undeformed position-momentum coherent state. Identifications of the deformed position-positio…
Two path interferometry with coherent states and squeezed vacuum can achieve phase sensitivities close to the Heisenberg limit when the average photon number of the squeezed vacuum is close to the average photon number of the coherent light. Here, we investigate the phase sensitivity of such states in the presence of photon losses. It is shown that the Cramer-Rao bound of phase sensitivity can be achieved experimentally by using a weak local oscillator and photon counting in the output. The phase sensitivity is then given by the Fisher information F of the state. In the limit of high squeezing…
The article explores a new formalism for describing motion in quantum mechanics. The construction is based on generalized coherent states with evolving fiducial vector. Weyl-Heisenberg coherent states are utilised to split quantum systems into `classical' and `quantum' degrees of freedom. The decomposition is found to be equivalent to quantum mechanics perceived from a semi-classical frame. The split allows for introduction of a new definition of classical state and is a convenient starting point for approximate analysis of quantum dynamics. An example of a meta-stable state is given as a prac…
The Schwinger oscillator operator representation of SU(3), studied in a previous paper from the representation theory point of view, is analysed to discuss the intimate relationships between standard oscillator coherent state systems and systems of SU(3) coherent states. Both SU(3) standard coherent states, based on choice of highest weight vector as fiducial vector, and certain other specific systems of generalised coherent states, are found to be relevant. A complete analysis is presented, covering all the oscillator coherent states without exception, and amounting to SU(3) harmonic analysis…
In this paper we will realize the polynomial Heisenberg algebras through the harmonic oscillator. We are going to construct then the Barut-Girardello coherent states, which coincide with the so-called multiphoton coherent states, and we will analyze the corresponding Heisenberg uncertainty relation and Wigner distribution function for some particular cases. We will show that these states are intrinsically quantum and cyclic, with a period being a fraction of the oscillator period. The associated geometric phases will be as well evaluated.
We show that the phase sensitivity $Δθ$ of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer fed by a coherent state in one input port and squeezed-vacuum in the other one is i) independent from the true value of the phase shift and ii) can reach the Heisenberg limit $Δθ\sim 1/N_T$, where $N_T$ is the average number of particles of the input states. We also show that the Cramer-Rao lower bound, $Δθ\propto 1/ \sqrt{|α|^2 e^{2r} + \sinh^2r}$, can be saturated for arbitrary values of the squeezing parameter $r$ and the amplitude of the coherent mode $|α|$ by a Bayesian phase inference protocol.
The dynamical algebra associated to a family of isospectral oscillator Hamiltonians is studied through the analysis of its representation in the basis of energy eigenstates. It is shown that this representation becomes similar to that of the standard Heisenberg algebra, and it is dependent of a parameter $w\geq 0$. We name it {\it distorted Heisenberg algebra}, where $w$ is the distortion parameter. The corresponding coherent states for an arbitrary $w$ are derived, and some particular examples are discussed in full detail. A prescription to produce the squeezing, by adequately selecting the i…
Classical imaging works by scattering photons from an object to be imaged, and achieves resolution scaling as $1/\sqrt{t}$, with $t$ the imaging time. By contrast, the laws of quantum mechanics allow one to utilize quantum coherence to obtain imaging resolution that can scale as quickly as $1/t$ -- the so-called "Heisenberg limit." However, ambiguities in the obtained signal often preclude taking full advantage of this quantum enhancement, while imaging techniques designed to be unambiguous often lose this optimal Heisenberg scaling. Here, we demonstrate an imaging technique which combines una…
We use spin-coherent states as a time-dependent variational ansatz for a semiclassical description of a large family of Heisenberg models. In addition to common approaches we also evaluate the square variance of the Hamiltonian in terms of coherent states. This quantity turns out to have a natural interpretation with respect to time-dependent solutions of the equations of motion and allows for an estimate of quantum fluctuations in a semiclassical regime. The general results are applied to solitons, instantons and vortices in several one- and two-dimensional models.
Coherent-state superpositions are of great importance for many quantum subjects, ranging from foundational to technological, e.g., from tests of collapse models to quantum metrology. Here we explore various aspects of these states, related to the connection between sub-Planck structures present in their Wigner function and their sensitivity to displacements (ultimately determining their metrological potential). We review this for the usual Heisenberg-Weyl algebra associated to a harmonic oscillator, and extend it to find analogous results for the $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ algebra, typically associate…
This paper is concerned with the construction of phase operators, phase states, vector phase states, and coherent states for a generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. This polynomial algebra (that depends on real parameters) is briefly described. The various states are defined on a finite- or infinite-dimensional space depending on the parameters. This report constitutes an introduction to three papers published by the authors in J. Phys. A [43 (2010) 115303 and 45 (2012) 244036] and J. Math. Phys. [52 (2011) 082101]. See these three papers for the relevant references.
We explore the sensitivity of an interferometer based on a quantum circuit for coherent states. We show that its sensitivity is at the Heisenberg limit. Moreover we show that this arrangement can measure very small length intervals.
We present a brief review of the impact of the Heisenberg uncertainty relations on quantum optics. In particular we demonstrate how almost all coherent and nonclassical states of quantum optics can be derived from uncertainty relations.
The well known Poisson Summation Formula is analysed from the perspective of the coherent state systems associated with the Heisenberg--Weyl group. In particular, it is shown that the Poisson summation formula may be viewed abstractly as a relation between two sets of bases (Zak bases) arising as simultaneous eigenvectors of two commuting unitary operators in which geometric phase plays a key role. The Zak bases are shown to be interpretable as generalised coherent state systems of the Heisenberg--Weyl group and this, in turn, prompts analysis of the sampling theorem (an important and useful c…
Various examples of exactly solvable `discrete' quantum mechanics are explored explicitly with emphasis on shape invariance, Heisenberg operator solutions, annihilation-creation operators, the dynamical symmetry algebras and coherent states. The eigenfunctions are the (q-)Askey-scheme of hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials satisfying difference equation versions of the Schrödinger equation. Various reductions (restrictions) of the symmetry algebra of the Askey-Wilson system are explored in detail.
We describe an efficient approach to modelling cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) with a time-delayed coherent feedback using quantum trajectory simulations. An analytical set of equations is derived to exploit the advantages of trajectories in the presence of the non-Markovian dynamics, where adjustments to the standard stochastic dynamics are discussed. In the weak excitation regime, we first verify that our approach recovers known results obtained with other simulation methods and demonstrate how a coherent feedback loop can increase the photon lifetime in typical cavity-QED systems. We t…
A careful study of the physical properties of a family of coherent states on the circle, introduced some years ago by de Bièvre and González in [DG 92], is carried out. They were obtained from the Weyl-Heisenberg coherent states in $L^2(\R)$ by means of the Weil-Brezin-Zak transformation, they are labeled by the points of the cylinder $S^1 \times \R$, and they provide a realization of $L^2(S^1)$ by entire functions (similar to the well-known Fock-Bargmann construction). In particular, we compute the expectation values of the position and momentum operators on the circle and we discuss the Heis…
This paper uses deformed coherent states, based on a deformed Weyl-Heisenberg algebra that unifies the well-known SU(2), Weyl-Heisenberg, and SU(1,1) groups, through a common parameter. We show that deformed coherent states provide the theoretical foundation of a meta-kernel function, that is a kernel which in turn defines kernel functions. Kernel functions drive developments in the field of machine learning and the meta-kernel function presented in this paper opens new theoretical avenues for the definition and exploration of kernel functions. The meta-kernel function applies associated revol…
Second degree polynomial Heisenberg algebras are realized through the harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian, together with two deformed ladder operators chosen as the third powers of the standard annihilation and creation operators. The corresponding solutions to the Painleve IV equation are easily found. Moreover, three different sets of eigenstates of the deformed annihilation operator are constructed, called the good, the bad and the ugly coherent states. Some physical properties of such states will be as well studied.
A $q$-deformed Weyl-Heisenberg algebra is used to define a deformed displacement operator giving rise to a naturally normalized nonlinear coherent states type. Robust maximally entangled deformed coherent states are studied and the effect of such a deformation on the amount of the entanglement is discussed. The analogy between environment decoherence and algebra deformation is made through the deformation parameter.
We study the consequences of the generalized Heisenberg uncertainty relation which admits a minimal uncertainty in length such as the case in a theory of quantum gravity. In particular, the theory of quantum harmonic oscillators arising from such a generalized uncertainty relation is examined. We demonstrate that all the standard properties of the quantum harmonic oscillators prevail when we employ a generalized momentum. We also show that quantum electrodynamics and coherent photon states can be described in the familiar standard manner despite the generalized uncertainty principle.
The aim of this article is to construct à la Perelomov and à la Barut-Girardello coherent states for a polynomial Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. This generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra, noted A(x), depends on r real parameters and is an extension of the one-parameter algebra introduced in Daoud M and Kibler MR 2010 J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 43 115303 which covers the cases of the su(1,1) algebra (for x > 0), the su(2) algebra (for x < 0) and the h(4) ordinary Weyl-Heisenberg algebra (for x = 0). For finite-dimensional representations of A(x) and A(x,s), where A(x,s) is a truncation of order s of A(x…
A new proof for the completeness of the coherent states $D(α)\mid f>$ for the Heisenberg Weyl group and the groups $SU(2)$ and $SU(1,1)$ is presented. Generalizations of these results and their consequences are disussed.
We theoretically investigate the phase sensitivity with parity detection on an SU(1,1) interferometer with a coherent state combined with a squeezed vacuum state. This interferometer is formed with two parametric amplifiers for beam splitting and recombination instead of beam splitters. We show that the sensitivity of estimation phase approaches Heisenberg limit and give the corresponding optimal condition. Moreover, we derive the quantum Cramér-Rao bound of the SU(1,1) interferometer.
We investigate the utility of non classical states of simple harmonic oscillators, particularly a superposition of coherent states, for sensitive force detection. We find that like squeezed states a superposition of coherent states allows displacement measurements at the Heisenberg limit. Entangling many superpositions of coherent states offers a significant advantage over a single mode superposition states with the same mean photon number.
Aiming towards a geometric description of quantum theory, we study the coherent states-induced metric on the phase space, which provides a geometric formulation of the Heisenberg uncertainty relations (both the position-momentum and the time-energy ones). The metric also distinguishes the original uncertainty relations of Heisenberg from the ones that are obtained from non-commutativity of operators. Conversely, the uncertainty relations can be written in terms of this metric only, hence they can be formulated for any physical system, including ones with non-trivial phase space. Moreover, the …
A relation is established in the present paper between Dicke states in a d-dimensional space and vectors in the representation space of a generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra of finite dimension d. This provides a natural way to deal with the separable and entangled states of a system of N = d-1 symmetric qubit states. Using the decomposition property of Dicke states, it is shown that the separable states coincide with the Perelomov coherent states associated with the generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra considered in this paper. In the so-called Majorana scheme, the qudit (d-level) states are r…
A generalized version of the coupled coherent states method for coherent states of arbitrary Lie groups is developed. In contrast to the original formulation, which is restricted to frozen-Gaussian basis sets, the extended method is suitable for propagating quantum states of systems featuring diversified physical properties, such as spin degrees of freedom or particle indistinguishability. The approach is illustrated with simple models for interacting bosons trapped in double- and triple-well potentials, most adequately described in terms of SU(2) and SU(3) bosonic coherent states, respectivel…
The wave function of a moderately cold atom in a stationary near-resonant standing light wave delocalizes very fast due to wave packet splitting. However, we show that frequency modulation of the field may suppress packet splitting for some atoms having specific velocities in a narrow range. These atoms remain localized in a small space for a long time. We demonstrate and explain this effect numerically and analytically. Also we demonstrate that modulated field can not only trap, but also cool the atoms. We perform a numerical experiment with a large atomic ensebmble having wide initial veloci…
We consider the time-dependent bi-coherent states that are essentially the Gazeau-Klauder coherent states for the two dimensional noncommutative harmonic oscillator. Starting from some q-deformations of the oscillator algebra for which the entire deformed Fock space can be constructed explicitly, we define the q-deformed bi-coherent states. We verify the generalized Heisenberg's uncertainty relations projected onto these states. For the initial value in time, the states are shown to satisfy a generalized version of Heisenberg's uncertainty relations. For the initial value in time and for the p…
We propose a scheme to implement the quantum walk for SU(1,1) in the phase space, which generalizes those associated with the Heisenberg-Weyl group. The movement of the walker described by the SU(1,1) coherent states can be visualized on the hyperboloid or the Poincaré disk. In both one-mode and two-mode realizations, we introduce the corresponding coin-flip and conditional-shift operators for the SU(1,1) group, whose relations with those for Heisenberg-Weyl group are analyzed. The probability distribution, standard deviation and the von Neumann entropy are employed to describe the walking pro…

Gaussian Klauder coherent states are discussed in the context of the infinite well quantum model, otherwise known as the particle in a box. A supersymmetric partner system is also presented, as well as a construction of coherent states in this new system. We show that these states can be chosen, in both systems to have many properties usually expected for coherent states. In particular, they yield highly localised wave packets for a short period of time, which evolve in a quasi-classical manner and which saturate approximately Heisenberg uncertainty relation. These studies are elaborated in on…
We show the relation between the Heisenberg averaging of regularized 2-point out-of-time ordered correlation function and the 2-point spectral form factor in bosonic quantum mechanics. The generalization to all even-point is also discussed. We also do the direct extension from the bosonic quantum mechanics to the non-interacting scalar field theory. Finally, we find that the coherent state and large-$N$ approaches are useful in the late-time study. We find that the computation of the coherent state can be simplified by the Heisenberg averaging. Therefore, this provides a simplified way to prob…
