Reconstructing the density operator by using generalized field quadratures

The Wigner function for one and two-mode quantum systems is explicitely expressed in terms of the marginal distribution for the generic linearly transformed quadratures. Then, also the density operator of those systems is written in terms of the marginal distribution of these quadratures. Some examples to apply this formalism, and a reduction to the usual optical homodyne tomography are considered.

Symplectic tomography of nonlinear coherent states of a trapped ion

Squeezed and rotated quadrature of an ion in a Paul trap is discussed in connection with reconstructing its quantum state using symplectic-tomography method. Marginal distributions of the quadrature for squeezed and correlated states and for nonlinear coherent states of a trapped ion are obtained and the density matrices in the Fock basis are expressed explicitly in terms of these marginal distributions.

Generalized Ultrastrong Optomechanics

We propose a reliable scheme to realize a generalized ultrastrong optomechanical coupling in a two-mode cross-Kerr-type coupled system, where one of the bosonic modes is strongly driven. The effective optomechanical interaction takes the form of a product of the photon number operator of one mode and the quadrature operator of the other mode. Quantum circuits for amplification of Kerr nonlinearity via quadrature squeezing

Phase shifts induced by the Kerr effect are usually very small at the single-photon level. We propose two circuits for enhancing the cross-Kerr phase shift by applying one- and two-mode quadrature squeezing operators. Our results are based on the vector coherent state theory and can be implemented by physical operations satisfying the commutation relations for generators of the generalized special unitary group SU(1,1). Output Field-Quadrature Measurements and Squeezing in Ultrastrong Cavity-QED

We study the squeezing of output quadratures of an electro-magnetic field escaping from a resonator coupled to a general quantum system with arbitrary interaction strengths. The generalized theoretical analysis of output squeezing proposed here is valid for all the interaction regimes of cavity-quantum electrodynamics: from the weak to the strong, ultrastrong, and deep coupling regimes. Revival-collapse phenomenon in the fluctuations of quadrature field components of the multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings model

In this paper we consider a system consisting of a two-level atom, initially prepared in a coherent superposition of upper and lower levels, interacting with a radiation field prepared in generalized quantum states in the framework of multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings model. For this system we show that there is a class of states for which the fluctuation factors can exhibit revival-collapse phenomenon (RCP) similar to that exhibited in the corresponding atomic inversion. Quantum State Tomography of Complex Multimode Fields using Array Detectors

We demonstrate that it is possible to use the balanced homodyning with array detectors to measure the quantum state of correlated two-mode signal field. We show the applicability of the method to fields with complex mode functions, thus generalizing the work of Beck (Phys. Rev. Letts. 84, 5748 (2000)) in several important ways. Resonance Fluorescence Squeezing Spectra from Photonic Bandgap Crystals

The fluorescence intensity and quadrature spectra from a two-level atom embedded in a photonic bandgap crystal and resonantly driven by a classical pump light are calculated. The non-Markovian nature of the problem caused by the non-uniform distribution of the photonic density of states is handled by linearizing the generalized optical Bloch equations with the Liouville operator expansion. Unlike the case in free space, we find that the bandgap effects will not only modify the fluorescence spectral shape but also cause squeezing in the in-phase quadrature spectra.

A report on the nonlinear squeezed states and their non-classical properties of a generalized isotonic oscillator

We construct nonlinear squeezed states of a generalized isotonic oscillator potential. We demonstrate the non-existence of dual counterpart of nonlinear squeezed states in this system. We investigate statistical properties exhibited by the squeezed states, in particular Mandel's parameter, second-order correlation function, photon number distributions and parameter $A_3$ in detail. Generalized measurement of the non-normal two-boson operator $Z_γ= a_1 + γa_2^†$

We address the generalized measurement of the two-boson operator $Z_γ= a_1 + γa_2^†$ which, for $|γ|^2 \neq 1$, is not normal and cannot be detected by a joint measurement of quadratures on the two bosons. We explicitly construct the minimal Naimark extension, which involves a single additional bosonic system, and present its decomposition in terms of two-boson linear SU(2) interactions. The statistics of the measurement and the added noise are analyzed in details. Results are exploited to revisit the Caves-Shapiro concept of generalized phase observable based on heterodyne detection.

Generalized Modular Value with Nonclassical Pointer States

In this study, we investigate the advantages of non-classical pointer states in the generalized modular value scheme. We consider a typical von Neumann measurement with a discrete quantum pointer, where the pointer is a projection operator onto one of the states of the basis of the pointer Hilbert space. SU(1,1) and SU(2) Approaches to the Radial Oscillator: Generalized Coherent States and Squeezing of Variances

It is shown that each one of the Lie algebras su(1,1) and su(2) determine the spectrum of the radial oscillator. Two-mode back-action-evading measurements in cavity optomechanics

We study theoretically a three-mode optomechanical system where two mechanical oscillators are coupled to a single cavity mode. By using two-tone (i.e. amplitude-modulated) driving of the cavity, it is possible to couple the cavity to a single collective quadrature of the mechanical oscillators. Current definitions of both squeezing operator and squeezed vacuum state are critically examined on the grounds of consistency with the underlying su(1,1) algebraic structure.
