We address the generalized measurement of the two-boson operator $Z_γ= a_1 + γa_2^†$ which, for $|γ|^2 \neq 1$, is not normal and cannot be detected by a joint measurement of quadratures on the two bosons. We explicitly construct the minimal Naimark extension, which involves a single additional bosonic system, and present its decomposition in terms of two-boson linear SU(2) interactions. The statistics of the measurement and the added noise are analyzed in details. Results are exploited to revisit the Caves-Shapiro concept of generalized phase observable based on heterodyne detection.
We introduce the notion of "generalized bosons" whose exchange statistics resemble those of bosons, but the local bosonic commutator $[a_i,a_i^\dagger]=1$ is replaced by an arbitrary single-mode operator that is diagonal in the generalized Fock basis. Examples of generalized bosons include boson pairs and spins. We consider the analogue of the boson sampling task for these particles and observe that its output probabilities are still given by permanents, so that the results regarding hardness of sampling directly carry over. Finally, we propose implementations of generalized boson sampling in …
We analyze the spectrum and normal mode representation of general quadratic bosonic forms $H$ not necessarily hermitian. It is shown that in the one-dimensional case such forms exhibit either an harmonic regime where both $H$ and $H^\dagger$ have a discrete spectrum with biorthogonal eigenstates, and a coherent-like regime where either $H$ or $H^\dagger$ have a continuous complex two-fold degenerate spectrum, while its adjoint has no convergent eigenstates. These regimes reflect the nature of the pertinent normal boson operators. Non-diagonalizable cases as well critical boundary sectors separ…
The single-mode spin-boson model (SMSBM) has extensive application in different subfields of physics. In the absence of rotating-wave approximation (RWA), we try to solve SMSBM analytically. We argue that the analytical expression obtained is the most exact approximation to the solution of the system under the assumption of Abel-Ruffini theorem, which works for a wide range of the parameters such as coupling strength and detuning and would be practical for currently available experiments.
The quantum regression formula for an open quantum system consists in an infinite hierarchy of conditions for its multi-time correlation functions, thus requiring full access to the total "system+environment" evolution, and providing a stronger requirement than CP-divisibility. Here, we analyze CP-divisibility and check the validity of quantum regression beyond the Born-Markov approximation (e.g. weak coupling limit) for a class of generalized spin-boson (GSB) models giving rise to a multi-level amplitude-damping evolution; in all cases, it is possible to engineer the system-bath coupling in s…
We discuss a generalization of the dephasing-type spin-boson model in which N qubits are connected to K bosonic modes in an arbitrary way. The model can be solved exactly for any initial state and coupling type. We found that this leads to two important effects, which are specific of the multipartite nature of the problem. First, the bosons can mediate an effective interaction among the spins, which corresponds to a type of time-dependent Lamb-shift. By tuning the types of couplings, this interaction can also be varied at will. Second, the dephasing rate of the qubits is found to depend on the…
Quantum multi--photon spin--boson model is considered. We solve an operator Riccati equation associated with that model and present a candidate for a generalized parity operator allowing to transform spin--boson Hamiltonian to a block diagonal form what indicates an existence of the related symmetry of the model.
The time-convolutionless (TCL) quantum master equation provides a powerful tool to simulate reduced dynamics of a quantum system coupled to a bath. The key quantity in the TCL master equation is the so-called kernel or generator, which describes effects of the bath degrees of freedom. Since the exact TCL generators are usually hard to calculate analytically, most applications of the TCL generalized master equation have relied on approximate generators using second and fourth order perturbative expansions. By using the hierarchical equation of motion (HEOM) and extended HEOM methods, we present…
We propose a deformed version of the generalized Heisenberg algebra by using techniques borrowed from the theory of pseudo-bosons. In particular, this analysis is relevant when non self-adjoint Hamiltonians are needed to describe a given physical system. We also discuss relations with nonlinear pseudo-bosons. Several examples are discussed.
Two bound, entangled fermions form a composite boson, which can be treated as an elementary boson as long as the Pauli principle does not affect the behavior of many such composite bosons. The departure of ideal bosonic behavior is quantified by the normalization ratio of multi-composite-boson states. We derive the two-fermion-states that extremize the normalization ratio for a fixed single-fermion purity P, and establish general tight bounds for this indicator. For very small purities, P<1/N^2, the upper and lower bounds converge, which allows to quantify accurately the departure from perfect…
We propose a generalized Jaynes-Cummings model that includes but is not limited to an extensive collection of experimental and theoretical proposals from the literature. It covers nonlinear boson terms, nonlinear dispersive and multi-boson exchange interaction. Our model features an underlying Lie graded algebra symmetry reminiscent to supersymmetric quantum mechanics. This allows us to propose a diagonalization scheme and calculate its analytic time evolution. In consequence, we are able to construct closed forms for relevant observables and explore the dynamics of particular realizations of …
The question whether two indistinguishable particles are bosons or fermions can be answered by observing the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect on a beam splitter. However, already for three particles one can consider symmetries that are neither bosonic nor fermionic. In this work, we describe a simple method of identifying them experimentally and propose a measure of a genuine multipartite indistinguishability.
It is found that identical bosons (fermions) show generalized bunching (antibunching) property in linear networks: The absolute maximum (minimum) of probability that all $N$ input particles are detected in a subset of $\mathcal{K}$ output modes of any nontrivial linear $M$-mode network is attained \textit{only} by completely indistinguishable bosons (fermions). For fermions $\mathcal{K}$ is arbitrary, for bosons it is either ($i$) arbitrary for only classically correlated bosons or ($ii$) satisfies $\mathcal{K}\ge N$ (or $\mathcal{K}=1$) for arbitrary input states of $N$ particles. The general…
We consider the special type of pseudo-bosonic systems that can be mapped to standard bosons by means of generalized Bogoliubov transformation and demonstrate that a pseudo-Hermitian systems can be obtained from them by means of a second subsequent Bogoliubov transformation. We employ these operators in a simple model and study three different types of scenarios for the constraints on the model parameters giving rise to a Hermitian system, a pseudo-Hermitian system in which the second the Bogoliubov transformations is equivalent to the associated Dyson map and one in which we obtain D-quasi ba…
Molecular vibroic spectroscopy, where the transitions involve non-trivial Bosonic correlation due to the Duschinsky Rotation, is strongly believed to be in a similar complexity class as Boson Sampling. At finite temperature, the problem is represented as a Boson Sampling experiment with correlated Gaussian input states. This molecular problem with temperature effect is intimately related to the various versions of Boson Sampling sharing the similar computational complexity. Here we provide a full description to this relation in the context of Gaussian Boson Sampling. We find a hierarchical str…
A fundamental question in linear optical quantum computing is to understand the origin of the quantum supremacy in the physical system. It is found that the multimode linear optical transition amplitudes are calculated through the permanents of transition operator matrices, which is a hard problem for classical simulations (boson sampling problem). We can understand this problem by considering a quantum measure that directly determines the runtime for computing the transition amplitudes. In this paper, we suggest a quantum measure named "Fock state concurrence sum" $C_S$, which is the summatio…
We describe coherent states and associated generalized Grassmann variables for a system of $m$ independent $q$-boson modes. A resolution of unity in terms of generalized Berezin integrals leads to generalized Grassmann symbolic calculus. Formulae for operator traces are given and the thermodynamic partition function for a system of $q$-boson oscillators is discussed.
Using tools from representation theory, we derive expressions for the coincidence rate of partially-distinguishable particles in an interferometry experiment. Our expressions are valid for either bosons or fermions, and for any number of particles. In an experiment with $n$ particles the expressions we derive contain a term for each partition of the integer $n$; Gamas's theorem is used to determine which of these terms are automatically zero based on the pairwise level of distinguishability between particles. Most sampling schemes (such as Boson Sampling) are limited to completely indistinguis…
We demonstrate that not all generalized Bogoliubov transformations lead to $\cal D$-pseudo-bosons and prove that a correspondence between the two can only be achieved with the imposition of specific constraints on the parameters defining the transformation. For certain values of the parameters we find that the norms of the vectors in sets of eigenvectors of two related apparently non self-adjoint number-like operators possess different types of asymptotic behavior. We use this result to deduce further that they constitute bases for a Hilbert space, albeit neither of them can form a Riesz base.…
Generalized spin-boson (GSB) models describe the interaction between a quantum mechanical system and a structured boson environment, mediated by a family of coupling functions known as form factors. We propose an extension of the class of GSB models which can accommodate non-normalizable form factors, provided that they satisfy a weaker growth constraint, thus accounting for a rigorous description of a wider range of physical scenarios; we also show that such "singular" GSB models can be rigorously approximated by GSB models with normalizable form factors. Furthermore, we discuss in greater de…
We derive a dynamical mean-field theory for mixtures of interacting bosons and fermions on a lattice (BF-DMFT). The BF-DMFT is a comprehensive, thermodynamically consistent framework for the theoretical investigation of Bose-Fermi mixtures and is applicable for arbitrary values of the coupling parameters and temperatures. It becomes exact in the limit of high spatial dimensions d or coordination number Z of the lattice. In particular, the BF-DMFT treats normal and condensed bosons on equal footing and thus includes the effects caused by their dynamic coupling. Using the BF-DMFT we investigate …

Noncrossing normal ordering for functions of boson operators
我们明确地给出了函数(a^{r}(a^<$)^{s})^{n})和(a^{r}+(a^<$)^{s})^{n}的非交叉正规序形式,以及各种特殊情况。我们能够建立这些功能,k元树和集的格路径之间的非交叉收缩的第一次双射。
We introduce a mathematically rigorous analysis of a generalized spin-boson system for the treatment of a donor-acceptor (reactant-product) quantum system coupled to a thermal quantum noise. The donor/acceptor probability dynamics describes transport reactions in chemical processes in presence of a noisy environment -- such as the electron transfer in a photosynthetic reaction center. Besides being rigorous, our analysis has the advantages over previous ones that (1) we include a general, non energy-conserving system-environment interaction, and that (2) we allow for the donor or acceptor to c…
The single-mode spin-boson model exhibits behavior not included in the rotating wave approximation (RWA) in the ultra and deep-strong coupling regimes, where counter-rotating contributions become important. We introduce a symmetric rotating wave approximation that treats rotating and counter-rotating terms equally, preserves the invariances of the Hamiltonian with respect to its parameters, and reproduces several qualitative features of the spin-boson spectrum not present in the original rotating wave approximation both off-resonance and at deep strong coupling. The symmetric rotating wave app…
A time evolution operator in the interaction picture is given by exponentiating an interaction Hamiltonian $H$. Important examples of Hamiltonians, often encountered in quantum optics, condensed matter and high energy physics, are of a general form $H=r(A^\dagger-A)$, where $A$ is a multimode boson operator and $r$ is the coupling constant. If no simple factorization formula for the evolution operator exists, the calculation of the evolution operator is a notoriously difficult problem. In this case the only available option may be to Taylor expand the operator in $r$ and act on a state of inte…
