We have developed a full quantum microscopic theory to analyze the time evolution of transversal and longitudinal components of an exciton-single photon system coupled to bulk acoustic phonons. These components are subjected to two decay processes. One is radiative relaxation and the other is pure-dephasing due to exciton-phonon interaction. The former results in a decay with an exponent linear to time, while the latter causes a faster initial decay than the radiative decay. We analyzed the dependence of the components on the duration of the input one-photon pulse, temperature, and radiative relaxation rates. Such a quantitative analysis is important for the developments of atom-photon interfaces which enable coherent transfer of quantum information between photons and atomic systems. We found that, for a GaAs spherical quantum dot in which the exciton interacts with bulk phonons, the maximal probability of the excited state can be increased up to 75 %. This probability can be considered as the efficiency for quantum information transfer from photon to exciton.
In coupled quantum systems pure dephasing mechanisms acting on one constituent of the hybrid system break symmetry and enable optical transitions which are forbidden in the non-coupled system, i.e., the pure dephasing bath opens a cascaded dissipation pathway. Here we show that this mechanism enables single-photon induced parametric down-conversion in an ultrastrongly coupled plasmon-exciton system. Fast pure dephasing of the exciton is shown to support photon pair generation as the dominant energy relaxation pathway.
Suppression of exciton dephasing in quantum dots through ultrafast multipulse control
我们研究了Viola和Lloyd [Phys. Rev.

We theoretically propose a biphoton entanglement-enhanced multidimensional spectroscopic technique as a probe for the dissipative polariton dynamics in the ultrafast regime. It is applied to the cavity-confined monomeric photosynthetic complex that represents a prototypical multi-site excitonic quantum aggregate. The proposed technique is shown to be particularly sensitive to inter-manifold polariton coherence between the two and one-excitation subspaces. It is demonstrated to be able to monitor the dynamical role of cavity-mediated excitonic correlations, and dephasing in the presence of phon…
Transport of excitons through transfer networks is a unique example where the interplay between quantum coherence and environment-induced dephasing leads to non-trivial effects. One exciting example is the "environment-assisted quantum transport", (ENAQT), where, counter intuitively, the environment interrupts quantum transport in a way that enhances the transfer efficiency. Here we show that the interplay between dephasing and quantum coherence can lead to an additional function in exciton transport - photo-protection, that is the reduction of current upon increased excitation. We start by de…
Photosynthesis is a highly efficient process, nearly 100 percent of the red photons falling on the surface of leaves reach the reaction center and get transformed into energy. Most theoretical studies on photosynthetic complexes focus mainly on the Fenna-Matthews-Olson complex obtained from green-sulfur bacteria. Quantum coherence was speculated to play a significant role in this very efficient transport process. However, recent reports indicate quantum coherence via exciton transport may not be as relevant as coherence originating via vibronic processes to Photosynthesis. Regardless of the or…
We examine the limits of applicability of a simple non-Hermitian model for exciton/plasmon interactions in the presence of dissipation and dephasing. The model can be used as an alternative to the more complete Lindblad density matrix approach and is computationally and conceptually simpler. We find that optical spectra in the linear regime can be adequately described by this approach. The model can fail, however, under continuous optical driving in some circumstances. In the case of two quantum dots or excitons interacting with a plasmon, the model can also describe coherences and entanglemen…
Dephased quantum transport of excitations occurs when energetic fluctuations in a system are sufficient to suppress the built-up of coherent amplitudes. While this has been extensively studied in many different systems, a unified and comprehensive understanding of quantum assisted transport via on-site and coupling-induced dephasing processes is lacking. The aim of the present work is to present a simple and unified understanding of the role of these two key dephasing processes in dephasing assisted transport. Our work explicitly links continuous dephasing to classical and quantum transitions.…
We propose a scheme for the detection of qubit-environment entanglement at time $τ$ which requires only operations and measurements on the qubit, all within reach of current experimental state-of-the-art. The scheme works for any type of interaction which leads to pure dephasing of the qubit as long as the initial qubit state is pure. It becomes particularly simple when one of the qubit states is neutral with respect to the environment, such as in case of the most common choice of the NV center spin qubit or for excitonic charge qubits, when the environment is initially at thermal equilibrium.

Entangled photon generation from semiconductor quantum dots via the biexciton-exciton cascade underlies various decoherence mechanisms related to the solid-state nature of the quantum emitters. So far, this has prevented the demonstration of nearly-maximally entangled photons without the aid of inefficient and complex post-selection techniques that are hardly suitable for quantum communication technologies. Here, we tackle this challenge using strain-tunable GaAs quantum dots driven under two-photon resonant excitation and with strictly-degenerate exciton states. We demonstrate experimentally …
The act of measurement on a quantum state is supposed to "collapse" the state into one of several eigenstates of the operator corresponding to the observable being measured. This measurement process is sometimes described as outside standard quantum-mechanical evolution and not calculable from Schrödinger's equation. There are two general approaches to the study of wave-function collapse: one called the "consistent" or "decoherent" histories approach and the other, the "environmental decoherence" approach, which studies the effect of the environment upon the quantum system, to explain wave-fun…
Environment-assisted quantum transport (ENAQT) is the possibility of an external environment to enhance transport efficiency of quantum particles. This idea has generated much excitement over recent years, especially due to the experimentally-motivated possibility of ENAQT in photo-synthetic exciton transfer complexes. Many theoretical calculations have shown ENAQT, but the explanations for its origin differ, and a universal explanation has been elusive. Here we demonstrate a universal origin for ENAQT in quantum networks with a dephasing environment, based on a relation between exciton curren…

We study the generation of quantum correlations between two excitonic quantum dot qubits due to their interaction with the same phonon environment. Such generation results from the fact that during the pure dephasing process at finite temperatures, each exciton becomes entangled with the phonon environment. We find that for a wide range of temperatures quantum correlations are created due to the interaction. The temperature-dependence of the amount of correlations created displays a trade-off type behaviour; for small temperatures the phonon-induced distrubance of the qubit states is too small…
We theoretically demonstrate the enhanced and dephasing immune squeezing in the resonance fluorescence of a single quantum dot (QD) confined to a pillar-microcavity and driven by a continuous wave laser. We employ a formalism based on Polaron master equation theory for incorporating the influence of exciton-phonon coupling quite accurately in the dot-cavity system. We show a significant enhancement of squeezing due to cavity coupling of the QD as compared to that of an ideal single two-level system in free space. Particularly, we show a four-fold enhancement in squeezing as compared to that of…

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are regarded as a possible materials platform for quantum information science and related device applications. In TMD monolayers, the dephasing time and inhomogeneity are crucial parameters for any quantum information application. In TMD heterostructures, coupling strength and interlayer exciton lifetimes are also parameters of interest. However, many demonstrations in TMDs can only be realized at specific spots on the sample, presenting a challenge to the scalability of these applications. Here, using multi-dimensional coherent imaging spectroscopy (MDC…

While typical theories of atom-light interactions treat the atomic medium as being smooth, it is well-known that microscopic optical effects driven by atomic granularity, dipole-dipole interactions, and multiple scattering can lead to important effects. Recently, for example, it was experimentally observed that these ingredients can lead to a fundamental, density-dependent dephasing of optical spin waves in a disordered atomic medium. Here, we go beyond the short-time and dilute limits considered previously, to develop a comprehensive theory of dephasing dynamics for arbitrary times and atomic…
