In this paper we show a new way to generate entanglement via two identical three-level atoms splitting in the magnetic field interacting with the cavity field. By the system we investigate, We can acquire the EPR state, multi-dimensional entangled states etc. which are more stable than usual realization by high-energy-level Rydberg atoms and we can realize the local exchange operator too. We also achieve the goal of maintaining long- time entanglement between atoms. At last, by using the procedure of local exchange, we put forward an experimental scheme for quantum feedback.
We study the Zeeman effect on entanglement of non-equilibrium finite-spin systems with external fields using a method based on thermofield dynamics (TFD). For this purpose, the extended density matrices and extended entanglement entropies of two systems with either non-competing or competing external fields are calculated according to the dissipative von Neumann equation, and the numerical results are compared. Consequently, through the "twin-peaks" oscillations of the quantum entanglement, we have illustrated the Zeeman effect on the entanglement of non-equilibrium finite-spin systems with co…
We show Zeeman-like splitting in the energy of spinors propagating in a background gravitational field, analogous to the spinors in an electromagnetic field, otherwise termed the Gravitational Zeeman Effect. These spinors are also found to acquire a geometric phase, in a similar way as they do in the presence of magnetic fields. However, in a gravitational background, the Aharonov-Bohm type effect, in addition to Berry-like phase, arises. Based on this result, we investigate geometric phases acquired by neutrinos propagating in a strong gravitational field. We also explore entanglement of neut…
Entanglement of dipole-dipole interacting spins 1/2 is usually investigated when the energy of interaction with an external magnetic field (the Zeeman energy) is greater than the energy of dipole interactions by three orders. Under this condition only a non-equilibrium state of the spin system, realized by pulse radiofrequence irradiations, results in entanglement. The present paper deals with the opposite case: the dipolar interaction energy is the order of magnitude or even larger than the Zeeman one. It was shown that entanglement appears under the thermodynamic equilibrium conditions and t…
We demonstrate sensing of inhomogeneous dc magnetic fields by employing entangled trapped ions, which are shuttled in a segmented Paul trap. As \textit{sensor states}, we use Bell states of the type $\left|\uparrow\downarrow\right>+\text{e}^{\text{i}φ}\left|\downarrow\uparrow\right>$ encoded in two $^{40}$Ca$^+$ ions stored at different locations. Due to the linear Zeeman effect, the relative phase $φ$ serves to measure the magnetic field difference between the constituent locations, while common-mode fluctuations are rejected. Consecutive measurements on sensor states encoded in the $\text{S}…
Some of the most promising proposals for scalable solid-state quantum computing, e.g., those using electron spins in quantum dots or donor electron or nuclear spins in Si, rely on a two-qubit quantum gate that is ideally generated by an isotropic exchange interaction. However, an anisotropic perturbation arising from spin-orbit coupling is inevitably present. Previous studies focused on removing the anisotropy. Here we introduce a new universal set of quantum logic gates that takes advantage of the anisotropic perturbation. The price is a constant but modest factor in additional pulses. The ga…
Evaluation of the systematic error induced by quadratic Zeeman effect using hyperfine ground state exchange method in a long-baseline dual-species atom interferometer
We investigate multipartite entanglement in relation to the theoretical process of quantum state exchange. In particular, we consider such entanglement for a certain pure state involving two groups of N trapped atoms. The state, which can be produced via quantum state exchange, is analogous to the steady-state intracavity state of the subthreshold optical nondegenerate parametric amplifier. We show that, first, it possesses some 2N-way entanglement. Second, we place a lower bound on the amount of such entanglement in the state using a novel measure called the entanglement of minimum bipartite …
This paper analyses the phenomenon of entanglement exchange in Bohm's pilot wave interpretation of quantum mechanics. The interesting feature of the phenomenon is that systems become entangled without causal interaction; hence it is a useful situation for investigating the unique nature of interaction in Bohmian mechanics. The first two sections introduce, respectively, entanglement exchange in the standard interpretation of quantum mechanics, and the basic principles of Bohmian mechanics. The next section shows that the Bohmian interpretation makes the same experimental predictions about enta…
We propose a method to generate massive entanglement in a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate from an initial product state through adiabatic sweep of magnetic field across a quantum phase transition induced by competition between the spin-dependent collision interaction and the quadratic Zeeman effect. The generated many-body entanglement is characterized by the experimentally measurable entanglement depth in the proximity of the Dicke state. We show that the scheme is robust to practical noise and experimental imperfection and under realistic conditions it is possible to generate genuine entangl…
We present a finite-size scaling analysis of the entanglement in a two-dimensional arrays of quantum dots modeled by the Hubbard Hamiltonian on a triangular lattice. Using multistage block renormalization group approach, we have found that there is an abrupt jump of the entanglement when a first-order quantum phase transition occurs. At the critical point, the entanglement is constant, independent of the block size.
A key ingredient of quantum repeaters is entanglement distillation, i.e., the generation of high-fidelity entangled qubits from a larger set of pairs with lower fidelity. Here, we present entanglement distillation protocols based on qubit couplings that originate from exchange interaction. First, we make use of asymmetric bilateral two-qubit operations generated from anisotropic exchange interaction and show how to distill entanglement using two input pairs. We furthermore consider the case of three input pairs coupled through isotropic exchange. Here, we characterize a set of protocols which …
Ichikawa et al. [Phys. Rev. A 78, 052105 (2008)] showed that exchange symmetry gives rise to simple characterization of whether multipartite pure quantum states being either globally entangled or fully separable. In this Brief Report, we provide a simple alternative approach and some extension to their conclusions.
We analyze the entanglement dynamics of a system composed by a pair of neutral two-level atoms that are initially entangled, and the electromagnetic field, initially in the vacuum state, within the formalism of perturbative quantum field theory up to the second order. We show that entanglement sudden death and revival can occur while the atoms remain spacelike-separated and therefore cannot be related with photon exchange between the atoms. We interpret these phenomena as the consequence of a transfer of atom-atom entanglement to atom-field entanglement and viceversa. We also consider the diff…
When a quantum particle traverses a rectangular potential created by a quantum field both photon exchange and entanglement between particle and field take place. We present analytic results for the transition amplitudes of any possible photon exchange processes for an incoming plane wave and initial Fock, thermal and coherent field states. We show that for coherent field states the entanglement correlates the particle's position to the photon number in the field instead of the particle's energy as usual. Besides entanglement formation, remarkable differences to the classical field treatment al…
We examine transfer of particle entanglement and spin squeezing between atomic and photonic subsystems in optical cavities coupled by two-photon exchange. Each cavity contains a single atom, interacting with cavity photons with a two-photon cascade transition. Particle entanglement is characterized by evaluating optimal spin squeezing inequalities, for the cases of initially separable and entangled two-photon states. It is found that particle entanglement is first generated among the photons in separate cavities and then transferred to the atoms. The underlying mechanism is recognized as an in…
In this paper we study the concurrence and the block-block entanglement in the $S=1/2$ spin ladder with four-spin ring exchange by the exact diagonalization method of finite cluster of spins. The relationship between the global phase diagram and the ground-state entanglement is investigated. It is shown that the block-block entanglement of different block size and geometry manifests richer information of the system. We find that the extremal point of the two-site block-block entanglement on the rung locates a transition point exactly due to SU(4) symmetry at this point. The scaling behavior of…
Using two different criteria for continuous variable systems we demonstrated that pump and probe beams became quantum correlated in a situation of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in a sample of Rb atoms. Our result combines two important features for practical implementations in the field of quantum information processing. Namely, we proved the existence of entanglement between two macroscopic light beams, and this entanglement is intrinsically associated to a strong coherence in an atomic medium.
Spin squeezing inequalities (SSI) represent a major tool to probe quantum entanglement among a collection of few-level atoms, and are based on collective spin measurements and their fluctuations. Yet, for atomic ensembles of spin-$j$ atoms and ultracold spinor gases, many experiments can image the populations in all Zeeman sublevels $s=-j, -j+1, \dots, j$, potentially revealing finer features of quantum entanglement not captured by SSI. Here we present a systematic approach which exploits Zeeman-sublevel population measurements in order to construct novel entanglement criteria, and illustrate …
In the present paper we study two qubit entanglement in the most general $XYZ$ Heisenberg magnetic chain with (non)homogeneous magnetic fields and the DM anisotropic antisymmetric exchange interaction, arising from the spin-orbit coupling . The model includes all known results as particular cases, for both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic $XX, XY, XXX, XXZ, XYZ$ chains. The concurrence of two qubit thermal entanglement and its dependence on anisotropic parameters, external magnetic field and temperature are studied in details. We found that in all cases, inclusion of the DM interaction, whi…
We present a convenient and efficient way to exchange and distribute multipartite entangled state via atomic coherence induced by electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in an atomic ensemble. By using the EIT-based nondegenerate four-wave mixing processes, the generation, exchange, and distribution of light-light, atom-light, and atom-atom multipartite entanglement can be achieved in a deterministic way with only coherent light fields. This EIT-induced atomic coherence acts as a quantum information processor and has the function of quantum beam splitter, quantum frequency converter, qu…
We propose a scheme by which two parties can secretely and simultaneously exchange messages. The scheme requires the two parties to share entanglement and both to perform Bell-state measurements. Only two out of the four Bell states are required to be distinguished in the Bell-state measurements, and thus the scheme is experimentally feasible using only linear optical means. Generalizations of the scheme to high-dimensional systems and to multipartite entanglement are considered. We show also that the proposed scheme works even if the two parties do not possess shared reference frames.
Two-photon processes that involve different sub-levels of the ground state of an atom, are highly sensitive to depopulation and decoherence within the ground state. For example, the spectral width of electromagnetically induced transparency resonances in $Λ-$type system, are strongly affected by the ground state depopulation and decoherence rates. We present a direct measurement of decay rates between hyperfine and Zeeman sub-levels in the ground state of $^{87}$Rb vapor. Similar to the relaxation-in-the-dark technique, pumping lasers are used to pre-align the atomic vapor in a well defined qu…
Entanglement of multipartite systems is studied based on exchange symmetry under the permutation group S_N. With the observation that symmetric property under the exchange of two constituent states and their separability are intimately linked, we show that anti-symmetric (fermionic) states are necessarily globally entangled, while symmetric (bosonic) states are either globally entangled or fully separable and possess essentially identical states in all the constituent systems. It is also shown that there cannot exist a fully separable state which is orthogonal to all symmetric states, and that…
The quantum state exchange is a quantum communication task in which two users exchange their respective quantum information in the asymptotic setting. In this work, we consider a one-shot version of the quantum state exchange task, in which the users hold a single copy of the initial state, and they exchange their parts of the initial state by means of entanglement-assisted local operations and classical communication. We first derive lower bounds on the least amount of entanglement required for carrying out this task, and provide conditions on the initial state such that the protocol succeeds…
The transfer or exchange of multipartite quantum states is critical to the realization of large-scale quantum information processing and quantum communication. A challenging question in this context is: What is the minimum resource required and how to simultaneously transfer or exchange multipartite quantum entanglement between two sets of qubits. Finding the answer to these questions is of great importance to quantum information science. In this work, we demonstrate that by using a single quantum two-level system - the simplest quantum object - as a coupler arbitrary multipartite quantum stat…
We discuss the role of nonclassicality of quantum states as a necessary resource in deterministic generation of multipartite entangled states. In particular for three bilinearly coupled modes of the electromagnetic field, tuning of the coupling constants between the parties allows the total system to evolve into both Bell and GHZ states only when one of the parties is initially prepared in a nonclassical state. A superposition resource is then converted into an entanglement resource.
Promising access to high-speed quantum networks relies on the creation of high-dimensional entangled memories that provide quantum communication with higher capacity of noisy quantum channels, thereby reducing the transmission time of information. Yet, the distribution of multidimensional entanglement between remote memory nodes is still faintly investigated. We propose an experimentally feasible protocol of deterministic generation of high-dimensional entanglement between distant multi-level atoms confined in high-finesse optical cavities and driven by laser pulses. Three-dimensional entangle…
In the present paper an influence of the anisotropic antisymmetric exchange interaction, the Dzialoshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction, on entanglement of two qubits in various magnetic spin models, including the pure DM model and the most general XYZ model are studied. We find that the time evolution generated by DM interaction can implement the SWAP gate and discuss realistic quasi-one-dimensional magnets where it can be realized. It is shown that inclusion of the DM interaction to any Heisenberg model creates, when it does not exist, or strengthens, when it exists, the entanglement. We give ph…
We consider a quantum communication task between two users Alice and Bob, in which Alice and Bob exchange their respective quantum information by means of local operations and classical communication assisted by shared entanglement. Here, we assume that Alice and Bob may have quantum side information, not transferred, and classical communication is free. In this work, we derive general upper and lower bounds for the least amount of entanglement which is necessary to perfectly perform this task, called the state exchange with quantum side information. Moreover, we show that the optimal entangle…
We consider theoretically the interplay between Zeeman coupling and exchange-induced swap action in spin-based quantum dot quantum computer models in the presence of inhomogeneous magnetic fields, which are invariably present in real systems. We estimate quantitatively swap errors caused by the inhomogeneous field, establishing that error correction would, in principle, be possible in the presence of non-uniform magnetic fields in realistic structures.
We propose a protocol that allows both the creation and distribution of entanglement, resulting in two distant parties (Alice and Bob) conclusively sharing a bipartite Bell State. The system considered is a graph of three-level objects ("qutrits") coupled by SU(3) exchange operators. The protocol begins with a third party (Charlie) encoding two lattice sites in unentangled states, and allowing unitary evolution under time. Alice and Bob perform a projective measurement on their respective qutrits at a given time, and obtain a maximally-entangled Bell state with a certain probablility. We also …
We prove that sufficiently many copies of a bipartite entangled pure state can always be transformed into some copies of another one with certainty by local quantum operations and classical communication. The efficiency of such a transformation is characterized by deterministic entanglement exchange rate, and it is proved to be always positive and bounded from top by the infimum of the ratios of Renyi's entropies of source state and target state. A careful analysis shows that the deterministic entanglement exchange rate cannot be increased even in the presence of catalysts. As an application, …
The Jaynes-Cummings model is the simplest fully quantum model that describes the interaction between light and matter. We extend a previous analysis by Phoenix and Knight (S. J. D. Phoenix, P. L. Knight, Annals of Physics 186, 381). of the JCM by considering mixed states of both the light and matter. We present examples of qualitatively different entropic correlations. In particular, we explore the regime of entropy exchange between light and matter, i.e. where the rate of change of the two are anti-correlated. This behavior contrasts with the case of pure light-matter states in which the rate…
The recently proposed idea to generate entanglement between photon states via exchange interactions in an ensemble of atoms (J.D. Franson and T.B. Pitman, Phys. Rev. A 60, 917 (1999) and J.D. Franson et al., (quant-ph/9912121)) is discussed using an S-matix approach. It is shown that if the nonlinear response of the atoms is negligible and no additional atom-atom interactions are present, exchange interactions cannot produce entanglement between photons states in a process that returns the atoms to their initial state. Entanglement generation requires the presence of a nonlinear atomic respons…
We analyze conditions leading to enhancement of thermal entanglement in two-qubit XY models. The effect of including cross-product terms, besides the standard XY exchange interactions, in the presence of an external magnetic field, is investigated. We show that entanglement can be yield at elevated temperatures by tuning the orientation of the external magnetic field. The details of the intrinsic exchange interactions determine the optimal orientation.
We investigate multipartite entanglement in rings of arbitrary spins with antiferromagnetic interactions between nearest neighbors. In particular, we show that the non-degenerate ground state of rings formed by an even number ($N$) of spins is $N$-partite entangled, and exchange energy can thus be used as a multipartite-entanglement witness. We develop a general approach to compute the energy minima corresponding to biseparable states, and provide numerical results for a representative set of systems. Despite its global character, exchange energy also allows a spin-selective characterization o…
Conditions to achieve an unusually strong Rydberg spin-exchange interaction are investigated and proposed as a means to generate pairwise entanglement and realize a SWAP-like quantum gate for neutral atoms. Ground-state entanglement is created by mapping entangled Rydberg states to ground states using optical techniques. A protocol involving SWAP gate and pairwise entanglement operations is predicted to create global entanglement of a chain of $N$ atoms in a time that is independent of $N$.
Spin-exchange collisions in alkali or alkali/noble gas vapors are at the basis of quantum sensing, nucleon structure studies, tests of fundamental symmetries, and medical imaging. We here show that spin-exchange collisions in hot alkali vapors naturally produce strong bipartite entanglement, which we explicitly quantify using the tools of quantum information science. This entanglement is shown to have a lifetime at least as long as the spin-exchange relaxation time, and to directly affect measurable spin noise observables. This is a formal theoretical demonstration that a hot and dense atomic …
We propose a scheme that utilizes the collective enhancement of a photonic mode inside an atomic ensemble together with a proper Zeeman manifold in order to achieve a heralded polarization entangled Bell state. The entanglement is between two photons that are separated in time and can be used as a post selected deterministic source for applications such as quantum repeaters where a subsequent entanglement swapping measurement is employed. We present a detailed analysis of the practical limitation of the scheme.
We theoretically investigate the hyperfine-induced decoherence in a pair of spin-cluster qubits, consisting of two exchange-coupled heterometallic wheels. We identify two distinct regimes in the decoherence of intermolecular entanglement and show that this can be substantially recovered through dynamical decoupling. Different chemical elements and physical processes are responsible for the decoherence of the singlet-triplet superposition, resulting in a wider tunability of its decoherence time.
We show that any number of parties can coherently exchange any one pure quantum state for another, without communication, given prior shared entanglement. Two applications of this fact to the study of multi-prover quantum interactive proof systems are given. First, we prove that there exists a one-round two-prover quantum interactive proof system for which no finite amount of shared entanglement allows the provers to implement an optimal strategy. More specifically, for every fixed input string, there exists a sequence of strategies for the provers, with each strategy requiring more entangleme…
We introduce methods for clock synchronization that make use of the adiabatic exchange of nondegenerate two-level quantum systems: ticking qubits. Schemes involving the exchange of N independent qubits with frequency $ω$ give a synchronization accuracy that scales as $(ω\sqrt{N})^{-1}$, i.e., as the standard quantum limit. We introduce a protocol that makes use of N coherent exchanges of a single qubit at frequency $ω$, leading to an accuracy that scales as $(ωN)^{-1}\log N$. This protocol beats the standard quantum limit without the use of entanglement, and we argue that this scaling is the f…
Quantum state exchange is a quantum communication task for two users in which the users faithfully exchange their respective parts of an initial state under the asymptotic scenario. In this work, we generalize the quantum state exchange task to a quantum communication task for $M$ users in which the users circularly transfer their respective parts of an initial state. We assume that every pair of users may share entanglement resources, and they use local operations and classical communication in order to perform the task. We call this generalized task the (asymptotic) quantum state rotation. F…
We study the effect of long range particle exchange in bosonic arrangements. We show that by combining the solution of the Heisenberg equations of motion with matrix product state representation it is possible to investigate the dynamics as well as the ground state while including particle exchange beyond next-neighbours sites. These ideas are then applied to study the emergence of entanglement as a result of scattering in boson chains. We propose a scheme to generate highly entangled multi-particle states that exploits collision as a powerful entangling mechanism.
The entanglement in one-dimensional random XY spin systems where the impurities of exchange couplings and the external magnetic fields are considered as random variables is investigated by solving the different spin-spin correlation functions and the average magnetization per spin. The entanglement dynamics near particular locations of the system is also studied when the exchange couplings (or the external magnetic fields) satisfy three different distributions(the Gaussian distribution, double-Gaussian distribution, and bimodal distribution). We find that the entanglement can be controlled by …
Unitary gates are an interesting resource for quantum communication in part because they are always invertible and are intrinsically bidirectional. This paper explores these two symmetries: time-reversal and exchange of Alice and Bob. We will present examples of unitary gates that exhibit dramatic separations between forward and backward capacities (even when the back communication is assisted by free entanglement) and between entanglement-assisted and unassisted capacities, among many others. Along the way, we will give a general time-reversal rule for relating the capacities of a unitary gat…
When two identical fermions exchange their positions, their wave function gains phase factor $-1$. We show that this distance-independent effect can induce nonlocal entanglement in one-dimensional (1D) electron systems having Majorana fermions at the ends. It occurs in the system bulk and has nontrivial temperature dependence. In a system having a single Majorana at each end, the nonlocal entanglement has a Bell-state form at zero temperature and decays as temperature increases, vanishing suddenly at certain finite temperature. In a system having two Majoranas at each end, it is in a cluster-s…
The impurities of exchange couplings, external magnetic fields and Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya (DM) interaction considered as Gaussian distribution, the entanglement in one-dimensional random $XY$ spin systems is investigated by the method of solving the different spin-spin correlation functions and the average magnetization per spin. The entanglement dynamics at central locations of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic chains have been studied by varying the three impurities and the strength of DM interaction. (i) For ferromagnetic spin chain, the weak DM interaction can improve the amount of entan…
The coherence of the electron spin in a semiconductor quantum dot is strongly enhanced by mode locking through nuclear focusing, where the synchronization of the electron spin to periodic pulsing is slowly transferred to the nuclear spins of the semiconductor material, mediated by the hyperfine interaction between these. The external magnetic field that drives the Larmor oscillations of the electron spin also subjects the nuclear spins to a Zeeman-like coupling, albeit a much weaker one. For typical magnetic fields used in experiments, the energy scale of the nuclear Zeeman effect is comparabl…
The present work theoretically investigates the probability of generation of entangled electron-photon pair in high-energy Compton scattering of unpolarized electrons and photons due to scattering-channel-exchange mechanism. The study suggests that the scattering of unpolarized electrons and photons with nearly equal energy of the order of MeV at cross-channel can create entangled pair of up-spin electron and RCP photon or down-spin electron and LCP photon. The entanglement is quite strong exhibiting jump-concurrence for particular directions of scattering however not limited by the Kapitza-Di…
Control of quantum entanglement has been considered as elemental physical resource for quantum applications in Quantum Information and Quantum Computation. Control of entangled states on a couple of atoms, ions or quantum dots are milestones in almost all quantum applications towards a scalable spin-based quantum computers or quantum devices. For magnetic systems, Ising model is an interaction which generates and modifies entanglement properties of quantum systems based on matter. In addition, when this interaction includes driven magnetic fields, it can be controlled to sustain, characterize …
We present a quantum key distribution (QKD) system based on polarisation entanglement for use in telecom fibers. A QKD exchange up to 50km was demonstrated in the laboratory with a secure key rate of 550 bit/s. The system is compact, portable with a fully automated start-up and stabilisation modules for polarisation, synchronisation and photon coupling allow a hands-off operation. Stable and reliable key exchange in a deployed optical fiber of 16km length was demonstrated. In this fiber network we achieved over two weeks an automatic key generation with an average key rate of 2000 bit/s withou…
Entanglement purification allows the creation of qubit pairs of arbitrarily high fidelity with respect to a maximally entangled state, starting from a larger number of low-fidelity pairs. Purification requires quantum memory, a role for which electron spins are well suited. However, using existing recurrence protocols involving symmetric local two-qubit operations for spin qubits turns out to be rather unpractical. We present an efficient purification protocol requiring only a single pulsed Heisenberg- or XY-type exchange interaction between two qubit pairs. In contrast to known protocols, we …
