The geometry of four-qubit entanglement is investigated. We replace some of the polynomial invariants for four-qubits introduced recently by new ones of direct geometrical meaning. It is shown that these invariants describe four points, six lines and four planes in complex projective space ${\bf CP}^3$. For the generic entanglement class of stochastic local operations and classical communication they take a very simple form related to the elementary symmetric polynomials in four complex variables. Moreover, their magnitudes are entanglement monotones that fit nicely into the geometric set of $n$-qubit ones related to Grassmannians of $l$-planes found recently. We also show that in terms of these invariants the hyperdeterminant of order 24 in the four-qubit amplitudes takes a more instructive form than the previously published expressions available in the literature. Finally in order to understand two, three and four-qubit entanglement in geometric terms we propose a unified setting based on ${\bf CP}^3$ furnished with a fixed quadric.
We find the generating set of SL-invariant polynomials in four qubits that are also invariant under permutations of the qubits. The set consists of four polynomials of degrees 2,6,8, and 12, for which we find an elegant expression in the space of critical states. In addition, we show that the Hyperdeterminant in four qubits is the only SL-invariant polynomial (up to powers of itself) that is non-vanishing precisely on the set of generic states.
Using the information geometry approach, we determine the volume of the set of two-qubit states with maximally disordered subsystems. Particular attention is devoted to the behavior of the volume of sub-manifolds of separable and entangled states with fixed purity. We show that the usage of the classical Fisher metric on phase space probability representation of quantum states gives the same qualitative results with respect to different versions of the quantum Fisher metric.
Given L-qubit states with the fixed spectra of reduced one-qubit density matrices, we find a formula for the minimal number of invariant polynomials needed for solving local unitary (LU) equivalence problem, that is, problem of deciding if two states can be connected by local unitary operations. Interestingly, this number is not the same for every collection of the spectra. Some spectra require less polynomials to solve LU equivalence problem than others. The result is obtained using geometric methods, i.e. by calculating the dimensions of reduced spaces, stemming from the symplectic reduction…
We derive an explicit expressions for geometric description of state manifold obtained from evolution governed by a three parameter family of Hamiltonians covering most cases related to real interacting two-qubit systems. We discuss types of evolution in terms of the defining parameters and obtain relevant explicit description of the pure state spaces and their Remannian geometry with the Fubini-Study metric . In particular, there is given an analysis of the modification of known geometry of quantum state manifold by the linear noncommuting perturbation of the Hamiltonian. For families of stat…
The commutation relations of the generalized Pauli operators of a qubit-qutrit system are discussed in the newly established graph-theoretic and finite-geometrical settings. The dual of the Pauli graph of this system is found to be isomorphic to the projective line over the product ring Z2xZ3. A "peculiar" feature in comparison with two-qubits is that two distinct points/operators can be joined by more than one line. The multi-line property is shown to be also present in the graphs/geometries characterizing two-qutrit and three-qubit Pauli operators' space and surmised to be exhibited by any o…
Entangling properties of a mixed 2-qubit system can be described by the local homogeneous unitary invariant polynomials in elements of the density matrix. The structure of the corresponding invariant polynomial ring for the special subclass of states, the so-called mixed X-states, is established. It is shown that for the X-states there is an injective ring homomorphism of the quotient ring of SU(2)xSU(2) invariant polynomials modulo its syzygy ideal and the SO(2)xSO(2)-invariant ring freely generated by five homogeneous polynomials of degrees 1,1,1,2,2.
Four level quantum systems, known as quartits, and their relation to two- qubit systems are investigated group theoretically. Following the spirit of Klein's lectures on the icosahedron and their relation to Hopf sphere bra- tions, invariants of complex re ection groups occuring in the theory of qubits and quartits are displayed. Then, real gates over octits leading to the Weyl group of E8 and its invariants are derived. Even multilevel systems are of interest in the context of solid state nuclear magnetic resonance.
In this Brief Report we show the relation between three-qubit entanglement invariants and two-qubit concurrence with the help of projective measurements. How to use these invariants to represent the entanglement property of three-qubit pure states is also investigated.
We re-examine the symmetry structure of massive momentum bispinors in four dimensional Minkowski spacetime and apply the result to the geometry of a two-qubit entanglement system. The geometry of entanglement is recovered by restricting the momentum to unit-energy hyperplane inside the future light-cone. On a more formal side, to understand Czachor's alternative normalization of the bispinor and its projection property, we analyze the geometry of momentum twistor space. An interesting correpondence between a submanifold of the momentum twistor space and tachyonic particle is also investigated.
We show there are at least 28 distinct true SLOCC entanglement classes for four-qubits by means of SLOCC invariant and semi-invariants and derive the number of the degenerated SLOCC classes for n-qubits.
The entanglement characteristics of two qubits are encoded in the invariants of the adjoint action of SU(2) x SU(2) group on the space of density matrices defined as the space of positive semi-definite Hermitian matrices. The corresponding ring of polynomial invariants is studied. The special integrity basis for this ring is described and constraints on its elements due to the positive semi-definiteness of density matrices are given explicitly in the form of polynomial inequalities. The suggested basis is characterized by the property that only a minimal number of invariants, namely two primar…
In this paper, we study SLOCC determinant invariants of order 2^{n/2} for any even n qubits which satisfy the SLOCC determinant equations. The determinant invariants can be constructed by a simple method and the set of all these determinant invariants is complete with respect to permutations of qubits. SLOCC entanglement classification can be achieved via the vanishing or not of the determinant invariants. We exemplify the method for several even number of qubits, with an emphasis on six qubits.
A new form of local unitary (LU) transformation invariant is given for multi-qubit states . The general relation between tangle and the LU transformation invariant of pure three and four-qubit states is given. We find that the tangle actually is a special LU transformation invariant. Furthermore, the tangle is a important local unitary (LU) transformation invariant which is a nessesary condition for maximally multi-qubit entangled state.
Relying on the mathematical analogy of the pure states of a two-qubit system with four-component Dirac spinors, we provide an alternative consideration of quantum entanglement using the mathematical formulation of Cartan's pure spinors. A result of our analysis is that the Cartan equation of two qubits state is entanglement sensitive in a way that the Dirac equation for fermions is mass sensitive. The Cartan equation for unentangled qubits is reduced to a pair of Cartan equations for single qubits as the Dirac equation for massless fermions separates into two Weyl equations. Finally, we establ…
Recently, we introduced negativity fonts as the basic units of multipartite entanglement in pure states. We show that the relation between global negativity of partial transpose of N- qubit state and linear entropy of reduced single qubit state yields an expression for global negativity in terms of determinants of negativity fonts. Transformation equations for determinants of negativity fonts under local unitaries (LU's) are useful to construct LU invariants such as degree four and degree six invariants for four qubit states. The difference of squared negativity and N-tangle is an N qubit inva…
We construct entanglement monotones for multi-qubit states based on Plücker coordinate equations of Grassmann variety, which are central notion in geometric invariant theory. As an illustrative example, we in details investigate entanglement monotones of a three-qubit state.
A permutation-invariant code on m qubits is a subspace of the symmetric subspace of the m qubits. We derive permutation-invariant codes that can encode an increasing amount of quantum information while suppressing leading order spontaneous decay errors. To prove the result, we use elementary number theory with prior theory on permutation invariant codes and quantum error correction.
A scheme of universal quantum computation on a chain of qubits is described that does not require local control. All the required operations, an Ising-type interaction and spatially uniform simultaneous one-qubit gates, are translation-invariant.
We propose a new approach to the geometry of the four-qubit entanglement classes depending on parameters. More precisely, we use invariant theory and algebraic geometry to describe various stratifications of the Hilbert space by SLOCC invariant algebraic varieties. The normal forms of the four-qubit classification of Verstraete {\em et al.} are interpreted as dense subsets of components of the dual variety of the set of separable states and an algorithm based on the invariants/covariants of the four-qubit quantum states is proposed to identify a state with a SLOCC equivalent normal form (up to…
We compare the polynomial invariants for four qubits introduced by Luque and Thibon, PRA {\bf 67}, 042303 (2003), with optimized Bell inequalities and a combination of two qubit concurrences. It is shown for various parameter dependent states from different SLOCC classes that it is possible to measure a genuine 4-qubit entanglement with these polynomials.
Perfect tensors describe highly entangled quantum states that have attracted particular attention in the fields of quantum information theory and quantum gravity. In loop quantum gravity, the natural question arises whether SU(2) invariant tensors, which are fundamental ingredients of the basis states of spacetime, can also be perfect. In this work, we present a number of general constraints for the layout of such invariant perfect tensors (IPTs) and further describe a systematic and constructive approach to check the existence of an IPT of given valence. We apply our algorithm to show that no…
In this paper, we find the invariant for $n$-qubits and propose the residual entanglement for $n$-qubits by means of the invariant. Thus, we establish a relation between SLOCC entanglement and the residual entanglement. The invariant and the residual entanglement can be used for SLOCC entanglement classification for $n$-qubits.
We relate the U-duality invariants characterizing two-center extremal black hole solutions in the stu, st^2 and t^3 models of N=2, d=4 supergravity to the basic invariants used to characterize entanglement classes of four-qubit systems. For the elementary example of a D0D4-D2D6 composite in the t^3 model we illustrate how these entanglement invariants are related to some of the physical properties of the two-center solution. Next we show that it is possible to associate elliptic curves to charge configurations of two-center composites. The hyperdeterminant of the hypercube, a four-qubit polyno…
We describe a direct method to experimentally determine local two-qubit invariants by performing interferometric measurements on multiple copies of a given two-qubit state. We use this framework to analyze two different kinds of two-qubit invariants of Makhlin and Jing et. al. These invariants allow to fully reconstruct any two-qubit state up to local unitaries. We demonstrate that measuring 3 invariants is sufficient to find, e.g., the optimal Bell inequality violation. These invariants can be measured with local or nonlocal measurements. We show that the nonlocal strategy that follows from M…
We present a complete set of local unitary invariants for generic multi-qubit systems which gives necessary and sufficient conditions for two states being local unitary equivalent. These invariants are canonical polynomial functions in terms of the generalized Bloch representation of the quantum states. In particular, we prove that there are at most 12 polynomial local unitary invariants for two-qubit states and at most 90 polynomials for three-qubit states. Comparison with Makhlin's 18 local unitary invariants is given for two-quibit systems.
The physically allowed quantum evolutions on a single qubit can be described in terms of their geometry. From a simple parameterisation of unital single-qubit channels, the canonical form of all such channels can be given. The related geometry can be used to understand how to approximate positive maps by completely-positive maps, such as in the case of optimal eavesdropping strategies. These quantum channels can be generated by the appropriate network or through dynamical means. The Strømer-Woronowisc result can also be understood in terms of this geometry.
We give a fermionic Fock space description of embedded entangled qubits. Within this framework the problem of classification of pure state entanglement boils down to the problem of classifying spinors. The usual notion of separable states turns out to be just a special case of the one of pure spinors. By using the notion of single, double and mixed occupancy representation with intertwiners relating them a natural physical interpretation of embedded qubits is found. As an application of these ideas one can make a physically sound meaning of some of the direct sum structures showing up in the c…
We give an algorithm allowing to construct bases of local unitary invariants of pure k-qubit states from the knowledge of polynomial covariants of the group of invertible local filtering operations. The simplest invariants obtained in this way are explicited and compared to various known entanglement measures. Complete sets of generators are obtained for up to four qubits, and the structure of the invariant algebras is discussed in detail.
Milz and Strunz ({\it J. Phys. A}: {\bf{48}} [2015] 035306) recently studied the probabilities that two-qubit and qubit-qutrit states, randomly generated with respect to Hilbert-Schmidt (Euclidean/flat) measure, are separable. They concluded that in both cases, the separability probabilities (apparently exactly $\frac{8}{33}$ in the two-qubit scenario) hold {\it constant} over the Bloch radii ($r$) of the single-qubit subsystems, jumping to 1 at the pure state boundaries ($r=1$). Here, firstly, we present evidence that in the qubit-qutrit case, the separability probability is uniformly distrib…
Dynamical properties of a resonator can be analyzed using the Rayleigh-Lorentz invariant which is not an exact constant but varies more or less over time. We investigate the time behavior of this invariant for a flux qubit resonator in order for better understanding of qubit-information detection with the resonator. Flux qubit resonators can be utilized in implementing diverse next generation nano-optic and nano-electronic devices such as quantum computing systems. Through the analyses of the temporal evolution of the invariant, we derive a condition for optimal adiabatic qubit-information det…
We describe explicitly the algebra of polynomial functions on the Hilbert space of four qubit states which are invariant under the SLOCC group $SL(2,{\mathbb C})^{4}$. From this description, we obtain a closed formula for the hyperdeterminant in terms of low degree invariants.
For a generic $n$-qubit system, local invariants under the action of $SL(2,\mathbb{C})^{\otimes n}$ characterize non-local properties of entanglement. In general, such properties are not immediately apparent and hard to construct. Here we consider certain two-qubit Yang-Baxter operators, which we dub of the `X-type', and show that their eigenvalues completely determine the non-local properties of the system. Moreover, we apply the Turaev procedure to these operators and obtain their associated link/knot polynomials. We also compute their entangling power and compare it with that of a generic t…
Pairwise entanglement properties of a symmetric multi-qubit system are analyzed through a complete set of two-qubit local invariants. Collective features of entanglement, such as spin squeezing, are expressed in terms of invariants and a classifcation scheme for pairwise entanglement is proposed. The invariant criteria given here are shown to be related to the recently proposed (Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 120502 (2005)) generalized spin squeezing inequalities for pairwise entanglement in symmetric multi-qubit states.
Local unitary invariance and the notion of negativity fonts are used as the principle tools to construct four qubit invariants of degree 8, 12, and 24. A degree 8 polynomial invariant that is non-zero on pure four qubit states with four-body correlations and zero on all other states, is identified. Classification of four qubit states into seven major classes, using criterion based on the nature of correlations, is discussed.
For pure symmetric 3-qubit states there are only three algebraically independent entanglement measures; one choice is the pairwise concurrence $\mathcal C$, the 3-tangle $τ$, and the Kempe invariant $κ$. Using a canonical form for symmetric $N$-qubit states derived from their Majorana representation, we derive the explicit achievable region of triples $(\mathcal C,τ,κ)$.
We investigate the equivalence of quantum states under local unitary transformations. A complete set of invariants under local unitary transformations is presented for a class of non-generic three-qubit mixed states. It is shown that two such states in this class are locally equivalent if and only if all these invariants have equal values for them.
Identifying the Bolch sphere with the Riemann sphere(the extended complex plane), we obtain relations between single qubit unitary operations and Möbius transformations on the extended complex plane.
We show a simple relation connecting entangling power and local invariants of two-qubit gates. From the relation, a general condition under which gates have same entangling power is arrived. The relation also helps in finding the lower bound of entangling power for perfect entanglers, from which the classification of gates as perfect and nonperfect entanglers is obtained in terms of local invariants.
In the present paper few steps are undertaken towards the description of the qubit-qutrit pair - quantum bipartite system composed of two and three level subsystems. The computational difficulties with the construction of the local unitary polynomial invariants are discussed. Calculations of the Molien functions and Poincare series for the qubit-qubit and qubit-qutrit local unitary invariants are outlined and compared with the known results. The requirement of positive semi-definiteness of the density operator is formulated explicitly as a set of inequalities in five Casimir invariants of the …
This paper reviews recent attempts to describe the two- and three-qubit Hilbert space geometries with the help of Hopf fibrations. In both cases, it is shown that the associated Hopf map is strongly sensitive to states entanglement content. In the two-qubit case, a generalization of the one-qubit celebrated Bloch sphere representation is described.
In a recent paper [Phys. Rev. A 76, 032304(2007)], Li et al. proposed the definition of the residual entanglement for n qubits by means of the Stochastic local operations and classical communication. Here we argue that their definition is not suitable for the case of odd-n qubits.
We study the local unitary equivalence for two and three-qubit mixed states by investigating the invariants under local unitary transformations. For two-qubit system, we prove that the determination of the local unitary equivalence of 2-qubits states only needs 14 or less invariants for arbitrary two-qubit states. Using the same method, we construct invariants for three-qubit mixed states. We prove that these invariants are sufficient to guarantee the LU equivalence of certain kind of three-qubit states. Also, we make a comparison with earlier works.
We develop a simple method for constructing polynomial invariants of degree 4 for even-$n$ qubits and give explicit expressions for these polynomial invariants. We demonstrate the invariance of the polynomials under stochastic local operations and classical communication and exemplify the use of the invariance in classifying entangled states. The absolute values of these polynomial invariants are entanglement monotones, thereby allowing entanglement measures to be built. Finally, we discuss the properties of these entanglement measures.
It is a recent observation that entanglement classification for qubits is closely related to local $SL(2,\CC)$-invariants including the invariance under qubit permutations, which has been termed $SL^*$ invariance. In order to single out the $SL^*$ invariants, we analyze the $SL(2,\CC)$-invariants of four resp. five qubits and decompose them into irreducible modules for the symmetric group $S_4$ resp. $S_5$ of qubit permutations. A classifying set of measures of genuine multipartite entanglement is given by the ideal of the algebra of $SL^*$-invariants vanishing on arbitrary product states. We …
We investigate the dynamics of quantum discord and entanglement for a class of mixed qubit-qutrit states assuming that only the qutrit is under the action of a dephasing channel. We demonstrate that even though the entanglement in the qubit-qutrit state disappears in a finite time interval, partial coherence left in the system enables quantum discord to remain invariant throughout the whole time evolution.
We obtain local unitary invariant polynomials for N qubit quantum state from first principles. A basic unit of entanglement, referred to as negativity font, is defined as a two by two matrix of probability amplitudes that determines the negative eigen value of a four by four submatrix of partially transposed state operator. Transformation properties of determinants of negativity fonts under local unitary (LU) transformations are exploited to obtain multi qubit invariants written in terms of such determinants.
A "magic rectangle" of eleven observables of four qubits, employed by Harvey and Chryssanthacopoulos (2008) to prove the Bell-Kochen-Specker theorem in a 16-dimensional Hilbert space, is given a neat finite-geometrical reinterpretation in terms of the structure of the symplectic polar space $W(7, 2)$ of the real four-qubit Pauli group. Each of the four sets of observables of cardinality five represents an elliptic quadric in the three-dimensional projective space of order two (PG$(3, 2)$) it spans, whereas the remaining set of cardinality four corresponds to an affine plane of order two. The f…
We study invariants of three-qubit states under local unitary transformations, i.e. functions on the space of entanglement types, which is known to have dimension 6. We show that there is no set of six independent polynomial invariants of degree less than or equal to 6, and find such a set with maximum degree 8. We describe an intrinsic definition of a canonical state on each orbit, and discuss the (non-polynomial) invariants associated with it.
In this paper the geometry of two-qubit systems under local unitary group $SO(2)\otimes SU(2)$ is discussed. It is shown that the quaternionic conformal map intertwines between this local unitary subgroup of $Sp(2)$ and the quaternionic Möbius transformation which is rather a generalization of the results of Lee et al (2002 Quantum Inf. Process. 1 129).
We prove that the binegativity is always positive for any two-qubit state. As a result, as suggested by the previous works, the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement in two qubits does not exceed the Rains bound, and the PPT-entanglement cost for any two-qubit state is determined to be the logarithmic negativity of the state. Further, the proof reveals some geometrical characteristics of the entangled states, and shows that the partial transposition can give another separable approximation of the entangled state in two qubits.
The concept of a \emph{weak value} of a quantum observable was developed in the late 1980s by Aharonov and colleagues to characterize the value of an observable for a quantum system in the time interval between two projective measurements. Curiously, these values often lie outside the eigenspectrum of the observable, and can even be complex-valued. Nevertheless, the weak value of a quantum observable has been shown to be a valuable resource in quantum metrology, and has received recent attention in foundational aspects of quantum mechanics. This paper is driven by a desire to more fully unders…
