Both direct and indirect weak nonresonant interactions are shown to produce entanglement between two initially disentangled systems prepared as a tensor product of thermal states, provided the initial temperature is sufficiently low. Entanglement is determined by the Peres-Horodeckii criterion, which establishes that a composite state is entangled if its partial transpose is not positive. If the initial temperature of the thermal states is higher than an upper critical value $T_{uc}$ the minimal eigenvalue of the partially transposed density matrix of the composite state remains positive in the course of the evolution. If the initial temperature of the thermal states is lower than a lower critical value $T_{lc}\leq T_{uc}$ the minimal eigenvalue of the partially transposed density matrix of the composite state becomes negative which means that entanglement develops. We calculate the lower bound $T_{lb}$ for $T_{lc}$ and show that the negativity of the composite state is negligibly small in the interval $T_{lb}<T<T_{uc}$. Therefore the lower bound temperature $T_{lb}$ can be considered as \textit{the} critical temperature for the generation of entanglement.
The entanglement between two identical two-level atoms interacting with two mode thermal field through a nondegenerate two-photon process has been suggested. It has been shown that for some atomic initial state the entanglement induced by nondegenerate two-photon interaction is larger than that induced by one-photon and degenerate two-photon processes.
We study the evolution of quantum entanglement in double cavity systems. The entanglement of cavity atoms induced by entangled pair of photons is investigated. Both entanglement sudden death and entanglement sudden birth phenomena are shown to be existed and analyzed in detail. We also propose a strategy to enhance the entanglement between the atom in one cavity and the photon in another cavity by using quantum Zeno effect.
We investigate the possibility of chaining qubits by letting pairs of nearest neighbours qubits dissipating into common environments. We then study entanglement dynamics within the chain and show that steady state entanglement can be achieved.
The three-tangle-dependence of $S_{max} = \max <S>$, where $S$ is Svetlichny operator, are explicitly derived when one party moves with an uniform acceleration with respect to other parties in the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and maximally slice states. The $π$-tangle-dependence of $S_{max}$ are also derived implicitly. From the dependence we conjecture that the multipartite entanglement is not the only physical resource for quantum mechanical multipartite non-locality.
We follow the emergence of quantum entanglement in a scattering event between two initially uncorrelated distinguishable quantum particles interacting via a delta potential. We calculate the time dependence of the Neumann entropy of the one-particle reduced density matrix. By using the exact propagator for the delta potential, we derive an approximate analytic formula for the asymptotic form of the two-particle wave function which is sufficiently accurate to account for the entanglement features of the system.
Correlation beyond entanglement is a subject of interest in quantum information. Here we have shown the existence of quantum correlation without entanglement in Heisenberg $XYZ$ spin model with external magnetic field, using different versions of measurement-induced nonlocality. However maximally entangled states are shown to possess maximum correlation.
The concept of relative state is used to introduce geometric phases that originate from correlations in states of composite quantum systems. In particular, we identify an entanglement-induced geometric phase in terms of a weighted average of geometric phase factors associated with a decomposition that define the entanglement of formation. An explicit procedure to calculate the entanglement-induced geometric phase for qubit pairs is put forward. We illustrate it for maximally entangled mixed states (MEMS) of two qubits.
We consider a pair of three - level atoms interacting with a common vacuum and analyze the process of entanglement production due to spontaneous emission. We show that in the case of closely separated atoms, collective damping can generate robust entanglement of the asymptotic states.
We propose an experiment in which an entangled pair of optical pulses are propagated through non-uniform gravitational fields. A field operator calculation of this situation predicts decoherence of the optical entanglement under experimentally realistic conditions.
In this letter we discuss a new entanglement measure. It is based on the Hilbert-Schmidt norm of operators. We give an explicit formula for calculating the entanglement of a large set of states on C^2 \times C^2. Furthermore we find some relations between the entanglement of relative entropy and the Hilbert-Schmidt entanglement. A rigorous definition of partial transposition is given in the appendix.
Quantum correlation in two-qubit spin models is investigated by use of measurement-induced disturbance [S. Luo, Phys. Rev. A, 77(2008) 022301]. Its dependences on external magnetic field, spin-spin coupling, and Dzyaloshinski-Moriya (DM) interactions are presented in detail. We also compare measurement-induced disturbance and thermal entanglement in spin models and illustrate their different characteristics.
We demonstrate the difference between local, single-particle dynamics and global dynamics of entangled quantum systems coupled to independent environments. Using an all-optical experimental setup, we show that, while the environment-induced decay of each system is asymptotic, quantum entanglement may suddenly disappear. This "sudden death" constitutes yet another distinct and counter-intuitive trait of entanglement.
We show that two, non interacting 2-level systems, immersed in a common bath, can become mutually entangled when evolving according to a Markovian, completely positive reduced dynamics.
We analyze a system consisting of two spatially separated quantum objects, here modeled as two pseudo-spins, coupled with a mesoscopic environment modeled as a bosonic bath. We show that by engineering either the dispersion of the spin boson coupling or the environment dimensionality or both one can in principle tailor the spatial dependence of the induced entanglement on the spatial separation between the two spins. In particular we consider one, two and three dimensional reservoirs and we find that while for a two or three dimensional reservoir the induced entanglement shows an inverse power…
We investigate entanglement properties of mixtures of short-range spin-s dimer coverings in lattices of arbitrary topology and dimension. We show that in one spacial dimension nearest neighbour entanglement exists for any spin $s$. Surprisingly, in higher spatial dimensions there is a threshold value of spin $s$ below which the nearest neighbour entanglement disappears. The traditional "classical" limit of large spin value corresponds to the highest nearest neighbour entanglement that we quantify using the negativity.
The disentangling effect of repeated applications of the bit flip channel (I\otimesσ_x) on bipartite qubit systems is analyzed. It is found that the rate of loss of entanglement is not uniform over all states. The distillable entanglement of maximally entangled states decreases faster than that of less entangled states. The analysis is also generalized to noise channels of the form n.sigma.
We provide an analytical expression for the entanglement decay of initially maximally entangled orbital angular momentum bi-photon states, when scattered off an obstruction. We show that the decay is controlled by the diffraction-induced mutual overlap between the diffracted field modes, and quantify its dependence on the size and position of the obstruction.
We study Wigner function of a system describing entanglement of two cat-states. Quantum interferece arising due to entanglement is shown to produce sub-Planck structures in the phase-space plots of the Wigner function. Origin of these structures in our case depends on entanglement unlike those in Zurek \cite{Zurek}. It is argued that the entangled cat-states are better suited for carrying out precision measurements.
We study the entanglement capability of the evolution of a pair of qubits evolving under unitary dynamics, when the local dynamical parameters cannot be modified during the time-evolution. Unlike the fast local control regime, we find that local and non-local contributions to the dynamics are strictly interconnected. Moreover, it is possible to strongly increase the entanglement capability by suitably initializing the characteristic energies of the two parties.
We study the diffraction of two maximally entangled qubits encoded into spatial modes of light with orbital angular momenta $\pm \hbar l_0$, on angular apertures. Exploiting the uncertainty relation between angular position and momentum, we quantify the diffraction-induced entanglement loss, for different $l_0$, as a function of the angular uncertainty $Δϕ$ induced by the apertures. We demonstrate that the degradation of entanglement follows a universal law parametrised by the product $l_0Δϕ$ alone.} {We study the diffraction of two photonic qubits, which are initially maximally entangled in t…
We study the decoherence of polarization-entangled photon pairs subject to the effects of polarization mode dispersion, the chief polarization decoherence mechanism in optical fibers. We show that fiber propagation reveals an intriguing interplay between the concepts of entanglement sudden death, decoherence-free sub-spaces and non-locality. We define the boundaries in which entanglement-based quantum communications protocols relying on fiber propagation can be applied.
We present a novel quantum phenomenon named electromagnetically induced entanglement in the conventional Lambda-type three-level atomic system driven by a strong pump field and a relatively weak probe field. Nearly perfect entanglement between the pump and probe fields can be achieved with a low coherence decay rate between the two lower levels, high pump-field intensity, and large optical depth of the atomic ensemble. The physical origin is quantum coherence between the lower doublet produced by the pump and probe fields, similar to the well-known electromagnetically induced transparency. Thi…
A relation between entanglement and criticality of spin chains is established. The entanglement we exploit is shared between auxiliary particles, which are isolated from each other, but are coupled to the same critical spin-1/2 chain. We analytically evaluate the reduced density matrix, and numerically show the entanglement of the auxiliary particles in the proximity of the critical points of the spin chain. We find that the entanglement induced by the spin-chain may reach one, and it can signal very well the critical points of the chain. A physical understanding and experimental realization w…
We revisit the problem of absorption by identical atoms with entanglement and symmetrization acting at once. We introduce the recoil of the atoms in the calculations and compare the results with those of distinguishable systems instead of mixtures. These absorption rates have been proposed to test entanglement-induced exclusion. The manifestation of exclusion in this framework is a sharp increase of the absorption rates in its proximity. The control of the superposition coefficients used in this representation is simpler than that of the overlapping degree considered in the initial proposal. A…
Using recent results in the field of quantum chaos we derive explicit expressions for the time scale of decoherence induced by the system-environment entanglement. For a generic system-environment interaction and for a generic quantum chaotic system as environment, conditions are derived for energy eigenstates to be preferred states in the weak coupling regime. A simple model is introduced to numerically confirm our predictions. The results presented here may also help understanding the dynamics of quantum entanglement generation in chaotic quantum systems.
We discuss both theoretically and experimentally elementary two-photon polarization entanglement localization after break of entanglement caused by linear coupling of environmental photon with one of the system photons. The localization of entanglement is based on simple polarization measurement of the surrounding photon after the coupling. We demonstrate that non-zero entanglement can be localized back irrespectively to the distinguishability of coupled photons. Further, it can be increased by local single-copy polarization filters up to an amount violating Bell inequalities. The present tech…
Under amplitude damping channel, the dependence of the entanglement on the initial states $|Θ>_{1}$ and $|Θ>_{2}$, which reduce to four orthogonal Bell states if we take the parameter of states $α=\pm 1/\sqrt{2}$ are investigated. We find that the entanglements for different initial states will decay along different curves even with the same acceleration and parameter of the states. We note that, in an inertial frame, the sudden death of the entanglement for $|Θ>_{1}$ will occur if $α>1/\sqrt{2}$, while it will not take place for $|Θ>_{2}$ for any $α$. We also show that the possible range of t…
We investigate entanglement between electronic and nuclear degrees of freedom for a model nonadiabatic system. We find that entanglement (measured by the von Neumann entropy of the subsystem for the eigenstates) is large in a statistical sense when the system shows ``nonadiabatic chaos'' behavior which was found in our previous work [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 63}, 066221 (2001)]. We also discuss non-statistical behavior of the eigenstates for the regular cases.
We propose an all-optical setup, which couples different degrees of freedom of a single photon, to investigate entanglement generation by a common environment. The two qubits are represented by the photon polarization and Hermite-Gauss transverse modes, while the environment corresponds to the photon path. For an initially two-qubit separable state, the increase of entanglement is analyzed, as the probability of an environment-induced transition ranges from zero to one. An entanglement witness that is invariant throughout the evolution of the system yields a direct measurement of the concurren…
We consider the entanglement dynamics between two Unruh-DeWitt detectors at rest separated at a distance $d$. This simple model when analyzed properly in quantum field theory shows many interesting facets and helps to dispel some misunderstandings of entanglement dynamics. We find that there is spatial dependence of quantum entanglement in the stable regime due to the phase difference of vacuum fluctuations the two detectors experience, together with the interference of the mutual influences from the backreaction of one detector on the other. When two initially entangled detectors are still ou…
We propose a feasible scheme of quantum state storage and manipulation via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in flexibly $united$ multi-ensembles of three-level atoms. For different atomic array configurations, one can properly steer the signal and the control lights to generate different forms of atomic entanglement within the framework of linear optics. These results shed new light on designing the versatile quantum memory devices by using, e.g., an atomic grid.
We investigate realistic experimental conditions under which the collective Dicke model can be implemented in ion-cavity QED context. We show how ideal subradiance and superradiance can be observed and we propose an experiment to generate entanglement exploiting the existence of the subradiant state. We explore the conditions to achieve optimal entanglement generation and we show that they are reachable with current experimental technology.
We show how entanglement between two conduction electrons is generated in the presence of a localized magnetic impurity embedded in an otherwise ballistic conductor of special geometry. This process is a generalization of beam-splitter mediated entanglement generation schemes with a localized spin placed at the site of the beam splitter. Our entangling scheme is unconditional and robust to randomness of the initial state of the impurity. The entangled state generated manifests itself in noise reduction of spin-dependent currents.
The dynamic behavior of the entanglement for two two-level atoms coupled to a common lossy cavity is studied. We find that the speed of disentanglement is a decreasing (increasing) function of the damping rate of the cavity for on/near (far-off) resonant couplings. The quantitative explanations for these phenomena are given, and further, it is shown that they are related to the quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effect induced by the non-Markovian environment.
Entanglement sudden death (ESD), the complete loss of entanglement in finite time, is demonstrated to occur in a class of bipartite states of qu-d-it pairs of any finite dimension d > 2, when prepared in so-called `isotropic states' and subject to multi-local dephasing noise alone. This extends previous results for qubit pairs [T. Yu, J. H. Eberly, Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 140403 (2006)] to all qu-d-it pairs with d > 2.
A system of two two-level atoms interacting with a squeezed vacuum field can exhibit stationary entanglement associated with nonclassical two-photon correlations characteristic of the squeezed vacuum field. The amount of entanglement present in the system is quantified by the well known measure of entanglement called concurrence. We find analytical formulas describing the concurrence for two identical and nonidentical atoms and show that it is possible to obtain a large degree of steady-state entanglement in the system. Necessary conditions for the entanglement are nonclassical two-photon corr…
We have investigated the polarization entanglement between photon pairs generated from a biexciton in a CuCl single crystal via resonant hyper parametric scattering. The pulses of a high repetition pump are seen to provide improved statistical accuracy and the ability to test Bell's inequality. Our results clearly violate the inequality and thus manifest the quantum entanglement and nonlocality of the photon pairs. We also analyzed the quantum state of our photon pairs using quantum state tomography.
Recently, a sufficient condition on the structure of the Kossakowski-Lindblad master equation has been given such that the generated reduced dynamics of two qubits results entangling for at least one among their initial separable pure states. In this paper we study to which extent this condition is also necessary. Further, we find sufficient conditions for bath-mediated entanglement generation in higher dimensional bipartite open quantum systems.
We propose a scheme for generating remote continuous steady-state entanglement of output light leaked from optomechanical system, in which two mechanical oscillators are coupled through long-range Coulomb interaction. we show that the entanglement of output light is affected by the detuning and the strength of the Coulomb interaction. We also demonstrate that two movable mirrors and two light beams can be entangled in the steady state. We suggest an experimental readout scheme to fully verify the characteristic of entangled state.
We analyze how entanglement between two components of a bipartite system behaves under the action of local channels of the form $\cE\otimes\cI$. We show that a set of maximally entangled states is by the action of $\cE\otimes\cI$ transformed into the set of states that exhibit the same degree of entanglement. Moreover, this degree represents an upper bound on entanglement that is available at the output of the channel irrespective what is the input state of the composite system. We show that within this bound the the entanglement-induced state ordering is ``relative'' and can be changed by the…
We propose a scheme via three-level cascade atoms to entangle two optomechanical oscillators as well as two-mode fields. We show that two movable mirrors and two-mode fields can be entangled even for bad cavity limit. We also study entanglement of the output two-mode fields in frequency domain. The results show that the frequency of the mirror oscillation and the injected atomic coherence affect the output entanglement of the two-mode fields.
We investigate the generation and the evolution of two-mode continuous-variable (CV) entanglement from system of a microwave-driven V-type atom in a quantum beat laser. By taking into account the effects of spontaneously generated quantum interference between two atomic decay channels, we show that the CV entanglement with large mean number of photons can be generated in our scheme, and the property of the filed entanglement can be adjusted by properly modulating the frequency detuning of the fields. More interesting, it is found that the entanglement can be significantly enhanced by the spont…
We study optomechanical entanglement between an optical cavity field and a movable mirror coupled to a non-Markovian environment. The non-Markovian quantum state diffusion (NMQSD) approach and the non-Markovian master equation are shown to be useful in investigating the entanglement generation between the cavity field and the movable mirror. The simple model presented in this paper demonstrates several interesting properties of optomechanical entanglement that are associated with environment memory effects. It is evident that the effective environment central frequency can be used to modulate …
The generation of entanglement produced by a local potential interaction in a bipartite system is investigated. The degree of entanglement is contrasted with the underlying classical dynamics for a Rydberg molecule (a charged particle colliding on a kicked top). Entanglement is seen to depend on the structure of classical phase-space rather than on the global dynamical regime. As a consequence regular classical dynamics can in certain circumstances be associated with higher entanglement generation than chaotic dynamics. In addition quantum effects also come into play: for example partial reviv…
We investigate a hybrid optomechanical system comprised of a mechanical oscillator and an atomic 3-level ensemble within an optical cavity. We show that a suitably tailored cavity field response via Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) in the atomic medium allows for strong coupling of the mechanical mirror oscillations to the collective atomic ground-state spin. This facilitates ground-state cooling of the mirror motion, quantum state mapping and robust atom-mirror entanglement even for cavity widths larger than the mechanical oscillator frequency.
We discuss an alternative formulation of the problem of quantum optical fields in a curved space-time using localized operators. We contrast the new formulation with the standard approach and find observable differences for entangled states. We propose an experiment in which an entangled pair of optical pulses are propagated through non-uniform gravitational fields and find that the new formulation predicts de-correlation of the optical entanglement under experimentally realistic conditions.
Analysis of the spontaneously induced correlation on atom-radiation entanglement in an ensemble of two-level atoms initially prepared in the upper level and placed in a cavity containing a squeezed radiation employing the method of evaluating the coherent-state propagator is presented. It is found that the cavity radiation exhibits squeezing which is directly attributed to the squeezed radiation in the cavity. The intensity of the cavity radiation increases with the squeeze parameter and interaction time. It is also shown that substantial degree of entanglement between the atomic states and ra…
We study the dynamics of a pair of molecular ensembles trapped inside a superconducting resonator through which they are strongly coupled via a microwave field mode. We find that entanglement can be generated via "vacuum fluctuations" even when the molecules and cavity field are initially prepared in their ground state. This entanglement is created in a relatively short time and without the need for further manipulation of the system. It does, therefore, provide a convenient scheme to entangle two mesoscopic systems, and may well be useful quantum information processing.
We study entanglement generated between a charge qubit and a bosonic bath due to their joint evolution which leads to pure dephasing of the qubit. We tune the parameters of the interaction, so that the decoherence is quantitatively independent of the number of bosonic modes taken into account and investigate, how the entanglement generated depends on the size of the environment. A second parameter of interest is the mixedness of the initial state of the environment which is controlled by temperature. We show analytically that for a pure initial state of the environment, entanglement does not d…
We investigate theoretically the optical properties of an atomic gas which has been cooled by the laser cooling method velocity-selective coherent population trapping. We demonstrate that the application of a weak laser pulse gives rise to a backscattered pulse, which is a direct signal for the entanglement in the atomic system, and which leads to single-particle entanglement on the few-photon level. If the pulse is applied together with the pump lasers, it also displays the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency. We suggest that the effect should be observable in a gas of Rubi…
We present a proposal to produce bipartite and tripartite entanglement in a hybrid magnon-cavity QED system. Two macroscopic yttrium iron garnet (YIG) spheres are coupled to a single-mode microwave cavity via magnetic dipole interaction, while the cavity photons are generated via the two photon process induced by a pump field. Using the mean field theory, we show that the second order nonlinearity can result in strong bipartite entanglement between cavity photons and magnonic modes under two conditions, i.e., $δ_c δ_{m}=2g^2$ and $δ_c=-δ_{m}$. For the later one, we also show the possibility fo…
We propose a method to prepare entangled states and implement quantum computation with atoms in optical cavities. The internal state of the atoms are entangled by a measurement of the phase of light transmitted through the cavity. By repeated measurements an entangled state is created with certainty, and this entanglement can be used to implement gates on qubits which are stored in different internal degrees of freedom of the atoms. This method, based on measurement induced dynamics, has a higher fidelity than schemes making use of controlled unitary dynamics.
We propose a system composed of a qubit interacting with a quartic (undriven) nonlinear oscillator (NLO) through a conditional displacement Hamiltonian. We show that even a modest nonlinear perturbation in the NLO potential can enhance and stabilize the quantum entanglement dynamically generated between the qubit and the NLO. In absence of the nonlinearity the entanglement between the qubit and the oscillator is known to periodically oscillate between 0 and 1, whereas the nonlinearity suppresses the dynamical decay of entanglement once it is generated. While the generation of entanglement is d…
We study a system of two qubits interacting with a common environment, described by a two-spin boson model. We demonstrate two competing roles of the environment: inducing entanglement between the two qubits and making them decoherent. For the environment of a single harmonic oscillator, if its frequency is commensurate with the induced two-qubit coupling strength, the two qubits could be maximally entangled and the environment could be separable. In the case of the environment of a bosonic bath, the gap of its spectral density function is essential to generate entanglement between two qubits …
We show that two, non interacting, infinitely long spin chains can become globally entangled at the mesoscopic level of their fluctuation operators through a purely noisy microscopic mechanism induced by the presence of a common heat bath. By focusing on a suitable class of mesoscopic observables, the behaviour of the dissipatively generated quantum correlations between the two chains is studied as a function of the dissipation strength and bath temperature.
