We define a quantum-mechanical time operator that is selfadjoint and compatible with the energy operator having a spectrum bounded from below. On their common domain, the operators of time and energy satisfy the expected canonical commutation relation. Pauli's theorem is bypassed because the correspondence between time and energy is not given by the standard Fourier transformation, but by a variant thereof known as the holomorphic Fourier transformation.
We describe an explicitly non-contextual statistical model of hidden variables for the qutrit, which fully reproduces the predictions of quantum mechanics and, thus, bypasses the constraints imposed by the Kochen-Specker theorem and its subsequent reformulations. We notice that these renowned theorems crucially rely on the implicitly assumed existence of an absolute frame of reference with respect to which physically indistinguishable tests related by spurious gauge transformations can supposedly be assigned well-defined distinct identities. We observe that the existence of such an absolute fr…
We present a noise deconvolution technique for obtaining noiseless expectation values of noisy observables at the output of multiqubit quantum channels. For any number of qubits or in the presence of correlations, our protocol applies to any mathematically invertible noise model, even when its inverse map is not physically implementable, i.e. when it is neither completely-positive nor trace-preserving. For a generic observable affected by Pauli noise it provides a quadratic speedup, always producing a rescaling of its Pauli basis components. We show that it is still possible to achieve the dec…
The beat time τ_{fpt} associated with the energy transfer between two coupled oscillators is dictated by the bandwidth theorem which sets a lower bound τ_{fpt}\sim 1/δω. We show, both experimentally and theoretically, that two coupled active LRC electrical oscillators with parity-time (PT) symmetry, bypass the lower bound imposed by the bandwidth theorem, reducing the beat time to zero while retaining a real valued spectrum and fixed eigenfrequency difference δω. Our results foster new design strategies which lead to (stable) pseudo-unitary wave evolution, and may allow for ultrafast computati…

The theorem known from Pauli equation about operators that anticommute with Dirac's $K$-operator is generalized to the Dirac equation. By means of this theorem the operator is constructed which governs the hidden symmetry in relativistic Coulomb problem (Dirac equation). It is proved that this operator coincides with the familiar Johnson-Lippmann one and is intimately connected to the famous Laplace-Runge-Lenz (LRL) vector. Our derivation is very simple and informative. It does not require a longtime and tedious calculations, as is offten underlined in most papers.
Pauli's theorem asserts that the canonical commutation relation $[T,H]=iI$ only admits Hilbert space solutions that form a system of imprimitivities on the real line, so that only non-self-adjoint time operators exist in single Hilbert quantum mechanics. This, however, is contrary to the fact that there is a large class of solutions to $[T,H]=iI$, including self-adjoint time operator solutions for semibounded and discrete Hamiltonians. Consequently the theorem has brushed aside and downplayed the rest of the solution set of the time-energy canonical commutation relation.
Several types of nonclassical structures within the $N$-qubit Pauli group that can be seen as fundamental resources for quantum information processing are presented and discussed. Identity Products (IDs), structures fundamentally related to entanglement, are defined and explored. The Kochen-Specker theorem is proved by particular sets of IDs that we call KS sets. We also present a new theorem that we call the $N$-qubit Kochen-Specker theorem, which is proved by particular sets of IDs that we call NKS sets, and whose utility is that it leads to efficient constructions for KS sets. We define the…
We put forward several inherently quantum characteristics of the dwell time, and propose an operational method to detect them. The quantum dwell time is pointed out to be a conserved quantity, totally bypassing Pauli's theorem. Furthermore, the quantum dwell time in a region for one dimensional motion is doubly degenerate. In presence of a potential barrier, the dwell time becomes bounded, unlike the classical quantity. By using off-resonance coupling to a laser we propose an operational method to measure the absorption by a complex potential, and thereby the average time spent by an incoming …
We present a number of observables-based proofs of the Kochen-Specker (KS) theorem based on the N-qubit Pauli group for N >= 4, thus adding to the proofs that have been presented earlier for the two- and three-qubit groups. These proofs have the attractive feature that they can be presented in the form of diagrams from which they are obvious by inspection. They are also irreducible in the sense that they cannot be reduced to smaller proofs by ignoring some subset of qubits and/or observables in them. A simple algorithm is given for transforming any observables-based KS proof into a large numbe…
In this article, we begin with a review of Pauli's version of the spin-statistics theorem and then show, by re-defining the parameter associated with the Lie-Algebra structure of angular momentum, that another interpretation of the theorem may be given. It will be found that the vanishing commutator and anticommutator relationships can be associated with independent and dependent probability events respectively, and not spin value. Consequently, it gives a more intuitive understanding of quantum field theory and it also suggests that the distinction between timelike and spacelike events might …
In single Hilbert space, Pauli's well-known theorem implies that the existence of a self-adjoint time operator canonically conjugate to a given Hamiltonian signifies that the time operator and the Hamiltonian possess completely continuous spectra spanning the entire real line. Thus the conclusion that there exists no self-adjoint time operator conjugate to a semibounded or discrete Hamiltonian despite some well-known illustrative counterexamples. In this paper we evaluate Pauli's theorem against the single Hilbert space formulation of quantum mechanics, and consequently show the consistency of…
In this paper we study the quantum graphs of mixed-unitary channels generated by tensor products of Pauli operators, which we call Pauli channels. We show that most quantum graphs arising from Pauli channels have non-trivial quantum cliques or quantum anticliques which are stabilizer codes. However, a reformulation of Nik Weaver's quantum Ramsey theorem in terms of stabilizer codes and Pauli channels fails. Specifically, for every positive integer $n$, there exists an $n$-qubit Pauli channel for which any non-trivial quantum clique or quantum anticlique fails to be a stabilizer code.
Structures that demonstrate nonclassicality are of foundational interest in quantum mechanics, and can also be seen as resources for numerous applications in quantum information processing - particularly in the Hilbert space of $N$ qubits. The theory of entanglement, quantum contextuality, and quantum nonlocality within the $N$-qubit Pauli group is further developed in this thesis. The Strong Kochen-Specker theorem and the structures that prove it are introduced and explored in detail. The pattern of connections between structures that show entanglement, contextuality, and nonlocality is expla…
We provide a construction of sets of (d/2+1) mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) in dimensions d=4,8 using maximal commuting classes of Pauli operators. We show that these incomplete sets cannot be extended further using the operators of the Pauli group. However, specific examples of sets of MUBs obtained using our construction are shown to be strongly unextendible; that is, there does not exist another vector that is unbiased with respect to the elements in the set. We conjecture the existence of such unextendible sets in higher dimensions (d=2^{n}, n>3) as well. Furthermore, we note an interestin…

We investigate multiple qubit Pauli groups and the quantum states/rays arising from their maximal bases. Remarkably, the real rays are carried by a Barnes-Wall lattice $BW_n$ ($n=2^m$). We focus on the smallest subsets of rays allowing a state proof of the Bell-Kochen-Specker theorem (BKS). BKS theorem rules out realistic non-contextual theories by resorting to impossible assignments of rays among a selected set of maximal orthogonal bases. We investigate the geometrical structure of small BKS-proofs $v-l$ involving $v$ rays and $l$ $2n$-dimensional bases of $n$-qubits. Specifically, we look a…
This paper has been withdrawn because of an error in the proof of Lemma 1. Without Lemma 1, the result of the main theorem (with the same proof, but omitting the use of Lemma 1 to extend things to general attacks) only holds for attacks in which the attacker applies a tensor product of Pauli matrices (for qubits) or generalized Pauli matrices. The resulting theorem is still relevant for quantum message authentication, but the very strong result claimed in earlier versions of this paper does not hold. These matters will be addressed further in joint work with Claude Crepeau, Daniel Gottesman, A…
When applied to matter and antimatter states, the Pauli master equation (PME) may have two forms: time-symmetric, which is conventional, and time-antisymmetric, which is suggested in the present work. The symmetric and antisymmetric forms correspond to symmetric and antisymmetric extensions of thermodynamics from matter to antimatter --- this is demonstrated by proving the corresponding H-theorem. The two forms are based on the thermodynamic similarity of matter and antimatter and differ only in the directions of thermodynamic time for matter and antimatter (the same in the time-symmetric case…
In the VIP2 (VIolation of the Pauli Exlusion Principle) experiment at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory (LNGS) we are searching for possible violations of standard quantum mechanics predictions. With high precision we investigate the Pauli Exclusion Principle and the collapse of the wave function (collapse models). We will present our experimental method of searching for possible small violations of the Pauli Exclusion Principle for electrons, via the search for "anomalous" X-ray transitions in copper atoms, produced by "new" electrons (brought inside a copper bar by circulating current) w…
Quantum computations that involve only Clifford operations are classically simulable despite the fact that they generate highly entangled states; this is the content of the Gottesman-Knill theorem. Here we isolate the ingredients of the theorem and provide generalisations of some of them with the aim of identifying new classes of simulable quantum computations. In the usual construction, Clifford operations arise as projective normalisers of the first and second tensor powers of the Pauli group. We consider replacing the Pauli group by an arbitrary finite subgroup G of U(d). In particular we s…
We propose a link between logical independence and quantum physics. We demonstrate that quantum systems in the eigenstates of Pauli group operators are capable of encoding mathematical axioms and show that Pauli group quantum measurements are capable of revealing whether or not a given proposition is logically dependent on the axiomatic system. Whenever a mathematical proposition is logically independent of the axioms encoded in the measured state, the measurement associated with the proposition gives random outcomes. This allows for an experimental test of logical independence. Conversely, it…
According to the entropy accumulation theorem, proving the unconditional security of a device-independent quantum key distribution protocol reduces to deriving tradeoff functions, i.e., bounds on the single-round von Neumann entropy of the raw key as a function of Bell linear functionals, conditioned on an eavesdropper's quantum side information. In this work, we describe how the conditional entropy can be bounded in the 2-input/2-output setting, where the analysis can be reduced to qubit systems, by combining entropy bounds for variants of the well-known BB84 protocol with quantum constraints…
In this article the rotational invariance of entangled quantum states is investigated as a possible cause of the Pauli exclusion principle. First, it is shown that a certain class of rotationally invariant states can only occur in pairs. This is referred to as the coupling principle. This in turn suggests a natural classification of quantum systems into those containing coupled states and those that do not. Surprisingly, it would seem that Fermi-Dirac statistics follows as a consequence of this coupling while the Bose-Einstein follows by breaking it. In section 5, the above approach is related…
Time operator is studied on the basis of field quantization, where the difficulty stemming from Pauli's theorem is circumvented by borrowing ideas from the covariant quantization of the bosonic string, i.e., one can remove the negative energy states by imposing Virasoro constraints. Applying the index theorem, one can show that in a different subspace of a Fock space, there is a different self-adjoint time operator. However, the self-adjoint time operator in the maximal subspace of the Fock space can also represent the self-adjoint time operator in the other subspaces, such that it can be take…
The traditional Standard Quantum Mechanics is unable to solve the Spin-Statistics problem, i.e. to justify the utterly important Pauli Exclusion Principle. We show that this is due to the non completeness of the standard theory due to an arguable conception of the spin as a vector characterizing the rotational properties of the elementary particles. The present Article presents a complete and straightforward solution of the Spin-Statistics problem on the basis of the Conformal Quantum Geometrodynamics, a theory that has been proved to reproduce successfully all relevant processes of the Standa…
We have proved the quantum mechanical H-theorem for dilute Bose and Fermi gases by generalizing the quantum statistical Boltzmann equation for all possible many-body elastic collisions among the particles in the quantum gases within the Lippmann-Schwinger formalism. Previous study by Pauli did almost the same only for binary elastic collisions. We are considering all possible many-body elastic collisions for the current study. Our proof offers a better understanding to the foundation of the second law of thermodynamics for quantum gases.
We present a new derivation of the proof for the TCP/CPT Theorem using the Dynamical Principle and Variation of Action methods first defined by Schwinger in 1951. This new proof will significantly extend the TCP Theorem beyond the original proofs by Pauli-Luders and Jost, which were significantly constrained by limits of free quantum fields and the asymptotic condition. This paper gives a more fundamental proof based on invariance of the Variation of Action with interactions included and no free field or asymptotic condition on the quantum fields. This new proof for TCP/CPT can now be applied …

Bloch theorem states the impossibility of persistent electric currents in the ground state of nonrelativistic fermion systems. We extend this theorem to generic systems based on the gauged particle number symmetry and study its consequences on the example of chiral transport phenomena. We show that the chiral magnetic effect can be understood as a generalization of the Bloch theorem to a nonequilibrium steady state, similarly to the integer quantum Hall effect. On the other hand, persistent axial currents are not prohibited by the Bloch theorem and they can be regarded as Pauli paramagnetism o…
We study locality preserving automorphisms of operator algebras on $D$-dimensional uniform lattices of prime $p$-dimensional qudits (QCA), specializing in those that are translation invariant (TI) and map every prime $p$-dimensional Pauli matrix to a tensor product of Pauli matrices (Clifford). We associate antihermitian forms of unit determinant over Laurent polynomial rings to TI Clifford QCA with lattice boundaries, and prove that the form determines the QCA up to Clifford circuits and shifts (trivial). It follows that every 2D TI Clifford QCA is trivial since the antihermitian form in this…
Quantum versions of de Finetti's theorem are powerful tools, yielding conceptually important insights into the security of key distribution protocols or tomography schemes and allowing to bound the error made by mean-field approaches. Such theorems link the symmetry of a quantum state under the exchange of subsystems to negligible quantum correlations and are well understood and established in the context of distinguishable particles. In this work, we derive a de Finetti theorem for finite sized Majorana fermionic systems. It is shown, much reflecting the spirit of other quantum de Finetti the…
The traditional standard theory of quantum mechanics is unable to solve the spin-statistics problem, i.e. to justify the utterly important \qo{Pauli Exclusion Principle} but by the adoption of the complex standard relativistic quantum field theory. In a recent paper (Ref. [1]) we presented a proof of the spin-statistics problem in the nonrelativistic approximation on the basis of the \qo{Conformal Quantum Geometrodynamics}. In the present paper, by the same theory the proof of the Spin-Statistics Theorem is extended to the relativistic domain in the general scenario of curved spacetime. The re…
In 2017, D. Horsman, C. Heunen, M. Pusey, J. Barrett, and R. Spekkens proved that there is no physically reasonable assignment that takes a quantum channel and an initial state and produces a joint state on the tensor product of the input and output spaces. The interpretation was that there is a clear distinction between space and time in the quantum setting that is not visible classically, where in the latter, one can freely use Bayes' theorem to go between joint states and marginals with noisy channels. In this paper, we prove that there actually is such a physically reasonable assignment, b…
We have explained and comprehensively illustrated in Part I that the generalized Pauli constraints suggest a natural extension of the concept of active spaces. In the present Part II, we provide rigorous derivations of the theorems involved therein. This will offer in particular deeper insights into the underlying mathematical structure and will explain why the saturation of generalized Pauli constraints implies a specific simplified structure of the corresponding many-fermion quantum state. Moreover, we extend the results of Part I to non-fermionic multipartite quantum systems, revealing that…
Bell's theorem implies that any completion of quantum mechanics which uses hidden variables (that is, preexisting values of all observables) must be nonlocal in the Einstein sense. This customarily indicates that knowledge of the hidden variables would permit superluminal communication. Such superluminal signaling, akin to the existence of a preferred reference frame, is to be expected. However, here we provide a protocol that allows an observer with knowledge of the hidden variables to communicate with her own causal past, without superluminal signaling. That is, such knowledge would contradi…
Time crystals correspond to a phase of matter where time-translational symmetry (TTS) is broken. Up to date, they are well studied in open quantum systems, where external drive allows to break discrete TTS, ultimately leading to Floquet time crystals. At the same time, genuine time crystals for closed quantum systems are believed to be impossible. In this study we propose a form of a Hamiltonian for which the unitary dynamics exhibits the time crystalline behavior and breaks continuous TTS. This is based on spin-1/2 many-body Hamiltonian which has long-range multispin interactions in the form …

In this essay a quantum-dualistic, perspectival and synchronistic interpretation of quantum mechanics is further developed in which the classical world-from-decoherence which is perceived (decoherence) and the perceived world-in-consciousness which is classical (collapse) are not necessarily identified. Thus, Quantum Reality or "{\it unus mundus}" is seen as both i) a physical non-perspectival causal Reality where the quantum-to-classical transition is operated by decoherence, and as ii) a quantum linear superposition of all classical psycho-physical perspectival Realities which are governed b…
