Relations between Hamiltonian mechanics and quantum mechanics are studied. It is stressed that classical mechanics possesses all the specific features of quantum theory: operators, complex variables, probabilities (in case of ergodic systems). The Planck constant and the Fock space appear after putting a dynamical system in a thermal bath. For harmonic oscillator in a thermal bath, the probability amplitudes can be identified with the complex valued phase functions $f(q+ip)$ describing small deviations from the equilibrium state, when the time of relaxation is large. A chain of such oscillators models both the one-dimensional space (or string), and one-dimensional quantum field theory.
We discuss the possibility to formulate the dynamics of spin states described by the Schrodinger equation for pure states and the von Neumann equation (as well as the GKSL equation) for mixed states in the form of quantum kinetic equations for probability distributions. We review an approach to the spin-state description by means of the probability distributions of dichotomic random variables.
The Hellmann-Feynman, virial and comparison theorems are three fundamental theorems of quantum mechanics. For the first two, counterparts exist for classical mechanics with relativistic or nonrelativistic kinetic energy. It is shown here that these three theorems are valid for classical mechanics with a nonstandard kinetic energy. This brings some information about the connections between the quantum and classical worlds. Constraints about the functional form of the kinetic energy are also discussed.
A concept of Kinetic Energy in Quantum Mechanics is analyzed. Kinetic Energy is not zero in many cases where there are no motion and flux. This paradox can be understood, using expansion of the wave function in Fourier integral, that is on the basis of virtual plane waves.
Recently it has been shown that the spinnless one particle quantum mechanics can be obtained in the framework of entirely classical subquantum kinetics. In the present paper we argue that, within the same scheme and without any extra assumption, it is possible to obtain both the non relativistic quantum mechanics with spin, in the presence of an arbitrary external electromagnetic field, as well as the nonlinear quantum mechanics. 1/f noise at arbitrary low frequences is the way of existence of irreversibility in thermal motion governed by reversible laws of mechanics. This statement not once was confirmed in statistical mechanics beyond its traditional kinetical roughenings. Here we point out that in case of quantum statistical mechanics in principle it is sufficient to avoid such the roughening as the "Fermi golden rule". This means taking into account the time-energy uncertainty principle (time-frequency one in classical limit) and thus uncertainties in characteristics of real collisions and scatterings of particles …
In this paper, we introduce the Schrodinger equation with a general kinetic energy operator. The conservation law is proved and the probability continuity equation is deducted in a general sense. Examples with a Hermitian kinetic energy operator include the standard Schrodinger equation, the relativistic Schrodinger equation, the fractional Schrodinger equation, the Dirac equation, and the deformed Schrodinger equation. We reveal that the Klein-Gordon equation has a hidden non-Hermitian kinetic energy operator. The probability continuity equation with sources indicates that there exists a diff…
A concept of kinetic energy in quantum mechanics is analyzed. Kinetic energy is a non-zero positive value in many cases of bound states, when a wave function is a real-valued one and there are no visible motion and flux. This can be understood, using expansion of the wave function into Fourier integral, that is, on the basis of virtual plane waves. The ground state energy of a hydrogen atom is calculated in a special way, regarding explicitly all the terms of electrostatic and kinetic energies. The correct values of the ground state energy and the radius of decay are achieved only when the ele…
By assuming that the kinetic energy, potential energy, momentum, and some other physical quantities of a particle exist in the field out of the particle, the Schrodinger equation is an equation describing field of a particle, but not the particle itself.
A Quantum Kinetic Master Equation (QKME) for bosonic atoms is formulated. It is a quantum stochastic equation for the kinetics of a dilute quantum Bose gas, and describes the behavior and formation of Bose condensation. The key assumption in deriving the QKME is a Markov approximation for the atomic collision terms. In the present paper the basic structure of the theory is developed, and approximations are stated and justified to delineate the region of validity of the theory. Limiting cases of the QKME include the Quantum Boltzmann master equation and the Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation, as well a…
Interpretations of key concepts, such as uncertainty relations, kinetic energy, value of an observable, probability distributions, the projection or collapse of a wave function postulate, and discrete versus continuous values, that appear in several excellent textbooks on quantum mechanics are reviewed and found not to be consistent with our current understanding of quantum theory. Possible alternatives are suggested.
The tomographic probability distribution is used to decribe the kinetic equations for open quantum systems. Damped oscillator is studied. Purity parameter evolution for different damping regime is considered.
We propose a solution for the inverse kinetic theory for quantum hydrodynamic equations associated to the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation. It is shown that an inverse kinetic equation of the form of the Vlasov equation can be non-uniquely determined under suitable mathematical prescriptions.
David Bohm shown that the Schr{ö}dinger equation, that is a "visiting card" of quantum mechanics, can be decomposed onto two equations for real functions - action and probability density. The first equation is the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equation, a "visiting card" of classical mechanics, to be modified by the Bohmian quantum potential. And the second is the continuity equation. The latter can be transformed to the entropy balance equation. The Bohmian quantum potential is transformed to two Bohmian quantum correctors. The first corrector modifies kinetic energy term of the HJ equation, and the s…
A method is presented to compute approximate solutions for eigenequations in quantum mechanics with an arbitrary kinetic part. In some cases, the approximate eigenvalues can be analytically determined and they can be lower or upper bounds. A semiclassical interpretation of the generic formula obtained for the eigenvalues supports a new definition of the effective particle mass used in solid state physics. An analytical toy model with a Gaussian dependence in the momentum is studied in order to check the validity of the method.
We consider quantum kinetics of an open quantum system in the presence of periodic fields designed to suppress the internal evolution and shield the system from generic low-frequency environment (refocusing or dynamical decoupling in application to multi-qubit systems). Assuming that the refocusing has order K, that is, for frozen environment the cumulant expansion of the evolution operator over the period tau begins with the term ~tau^(K+1), we trace the associated cancellations in the kernel of the quantum kinetic equation in the Floquet formalism and characterize the remaining decoherence p…
We propose and investigate a procedure to measure, at least in principle, a positive quantum version of the local kinetic energy density. This procedure is based, under certain idealized limits, on the detection rate of photons emitted by moving atoms which are excited by a localized laser beam. The same type of experiment, but in different limits, can also provide other non positive-definite versions of the kinetic energy density. A connection with quantum arrival time distributions is discussed.
We propose an approach to the quantum-classical correspondence based on a deformation of the momentum and kinetic operators of quantum mechanics. Making use of the factorization method, we construct classical versions of the momentum and kinetic operators which, in addition to the standard quantum expressions, contain terms that are functionals of the N-particle density. We show that this implementation of the quantum-classical correspondence is related to Witten's deformation of the exterior derivative and Laplacian, introduced in the context of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. The correspon…
It is shown that in the model [3,4] of quantum mechanics besides probability amplitudes, the Planck constant and the Fock space, the cosmological constant also appear in the natural way. The Poisson brackets are generalized for the case of kinetics.
The one particle quantum mechanics is considered in the frame of a N-body classical kinetics in the phase space. Within this framework, the scenario of a subquantum structure for the quantum particle, emerges naturally, providing an ontological support to the orthodox quantum mechanics. This approach to quantum mechanics, constitutes a deductive and direct method which, in a self-consistent scheme of a classical kinetics, allows us: i) to obtain the probabilistic nature of the quantum description and to interpret the wave function $ψ$ according to the Copenhagen school; ii) to derive the quant…
Time reversal symmetry is a fundamental property of many quantum mechanical systems. The relation between statistical physics and time reversal is subtle and not all statistical theories conserve this particular symmetry, most notably hydrodynamic equations and kinetic equations such as the Boltzmann equation. In this article it is shown analytically that quantum kinetic generalizations of the Boltzmann equation that are derived using the nonequilibrium Green functions formalism as well as all approximations that stem from $Φ$-derivable selfenergies are time reversal invariant.
The model of a planar atom which possesses a non-vanishing electric dipole moment interacting with magnetic fields in a specific setting is studied. Energy spectra of this model and its reduced model, which is the limit of cooling down the atom to the negligible kinetic energy, are solved exactly. We show that %similar with the Chern-Simons quantum mechanics, energy spectra of the reduced model can not be obtained directly from the full ones by taking the same limit. In order to match them, we must regularize energy spectra of the full model when the limit of the negligible kinetic energy is t…
We apply a new formalism to derive the higher-order quantum kinetic expansion (QKE) for studying dissipative dynamics in a general quantum network coupled with an arbitrary thermal bath. The dynamics of system population is described by a time-convoluted kinetic equation, where the time-nonlocal rate kernel is systematically expanded on the order of off-diagonal elements of the system Hamiltonian. In the second order, the rate kernel recovers the expression of the noninteracting-blip approximation (NIBA) method. The higher-order corrections in the rate kernel account for the effects of the mul…
In this comment, we point out some shortcomings in two papers "Fractional quantum mechanics" [Phys. Rev. E 62, 3135 (2000)] and "Fractional Schroedinger equation" [Phys. Rev. E 66, 056108 (2002)]. We prove that the fractional uncertainty relation does not hold generally. The probability continuity equation in fractional quantum mechanics has a missing source term, which leads to particle teleportation, i.e., a particle can teleport from one place to another. Since the relativistic kinetic energy can be viewed as an approximate realization of the fractional kinetic energy, the particle teleport…
We explore the possibility that theories with negative kinetic energy (ghosts) can be meta-stable up to cosmologically long times. In classical mechanics, ghosts undergo spontaneous lockdown rather than run-away if weakly-coupled and non-resonant. Physical examples of this phenomenon are shown. In quantum mechanics this leads to meta-stability similar to vacuum decay. In classical field theory, lockdown is broken by resonances and ghosts behave statistically, drifting towards infinite entropy as no thermal equilibrium exists. We analytically and numerically compute the run-away rate finding th…
Coherent energy transfer in pigment-protein complexes has been studied by mapping the quantum network to a kinetic network. This gives an analytic way to find parameter values for optimal transfer efficiency. In the case of the Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) complex, the comparison of quantum and kinetic network evolution shows that dephasing-assisted energy transfer is driven by the two-site coherent interaction, and not system-wide coherence. Using the Schur complement, we find a new kinetic network that gives a closer approximation to the quantum network by including all multi-site coherence co…
We employ a recently formulated dequantization procedure to obtain an exact expression for the kinetic energy which is applicable to all kinetic-energy functionals. We express the kinetic energy of an N-electron system as the sum of an N-electron classical kinetic energy and an N-electron purely quantum kinetic energy arising from the quantum fluctuations that turn the classical momentum into the quantum momentum. This leads to an interesting analogy with Nelson's stochastic approach to quantum mechanics, which we use to conceptually clarify the physical nature of part of the kinetic-energy fu…
We propose a general framework of quantum kinetic Monte Carlo algorithm, based on a stochastic representation of a series expansion of the quantum evolution. Two approaches have been developed in the context of quantum many-body spin dynamics, using different decomposition of the Hamiltonian. The effectiveness of the methods is tested for many-body spin systems up to 40 spins.
We develop a rigorous formalism for the description of the evolution of states of quantum many-particle systems in terms of a one-particle density operator. For initial states which are specified in terms of a one-particle density operator the equivalence of the description of the evolution of quantum many-particle states by the Cauchy problem of the quantum BBGKY hierarchy and by the Cauchy problem of the generalized quantum kinetic equation together with a sequence of explicitly defined functionals of a solution of stated kinetic equation is established in the space of trace class operators.…
We present a new way of quantum kinetic equation derivation. This method appears as a natural generalization of the many-particle quantum hydrodynamic method. Kinetic equations are derived for different system of particles. First of all we consider quantum plasma and pay special attention to the spin evolution. We show that we need a set of two kinetic equations for description of spinning particles. One of these equations is the equation for distribution function, however this equation contains new function, even in the self-consistent field approximation. This is a spin-distribution function…
We develop a rigorous formalism for the description of the evolution of observables of quantum systems of particles in the mean-field scaling limit. The corresponding asymptotics of a solution of the initial-value problem of the dual quantum BBGKY hierarchy is constructed. Moreover, links of the evolution of marginal observables and the evolution of quantum states described in terms of a one-particle marginal density operator are established. Such approach gives the alternative description of the kinetic evolution of quantum many-particle systems to generally accepted approach on basis of kine…
Starting on the basis of the non-commutative q-differential calculus, we introduce a generalized q-deformed Schrödinger equation. It can be viewed as the quantum stochastic counterpart of a generalized classical kinetic equation, which reproduces at the equilibrium the well-known q-deformed exponential stationary distribution. In this framework, q-deformed adjoint of an operator and q-hermitian operator properties occur in a natural way in order to satisfy the basic quantum mechanics assumptions.
