In this paper we construct an analytical separation (diagonalization) of the full (minimal coupling) Dirac equation into particle and antiparticle components. The diagonalization is analytic in that it is achieved without transforming the wave functions, as is done by the Foldy-Wouthuysen method, and reveals the nonlocal time behavior of the particle-antiparticle relationship. We interpret the zitterbewegung and the result that a velocity measurement (of a Dirac particle) at any instant in time is, as reflections of the fact that the Dirac equation makes a spatially extended particle appear as a point in the present by forcing it to oscillate between the past and future at speed c. From this we infer that, although the form of the Dirac equation serves to make space and time appear on an equal footing mathematically, it is clear that they are still not on an equal footing from a physical point of view. On the other hand, the Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation, which connects the Dirac and square root operator, is unitary. Reflection on these results suggests that a more refined notion (than that of unitary equivalence) may be required for physical systems.
In this article, we studied the system of (2+1) dimensional Dirac equation in time-dependent noncommutative phase-space. Exactly, we investigated the analytical solution of the corresponding system by the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant method based on the construction of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant. Knowing that we obtained the time-dependent Dirac Hamiltonian of the problem in question from a time-dependent Bopp-Shift translation, then it used to set the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant operators. Thereafter, the obtained results used to express the eigenfunctions that lead to determining the genera…
In this work, the general form of $2\times2$ Dirac matrices for 2+1 dimension is found. In order to find this general representation, all relations among the elements of the matrices and matrices themselves are found, and the generalized Lorentz transform matrix is also found under the effect of the general representation of Dirac matrices. As we know, the well known equation of Dirac, $ \left( iγ^μ\partial_μ-m\right) Ψ=0 $, is consist of matrices of even dimension known as the general representation of Dirac matrices or Dirac matrices. Our motivation for this study was lack of the general repr…
Approximate analytical solutions of Dirac Equation with spin and pseudo spin symmetries for the diatomic molecular potentials plus a tensor term with any angular momentum
We study the analytic structure for the eigenvalues of the one-dimensional Dirac oscillator, by analytically continuing its frequency on the complex plane. A twofold Riemann surface is found, connecting the two states of a pair of particle and antiparticle. One can, at least in principle, accomplish the transition from a positive energy state to its antiparticle state by moving the frequency continuously on the complex plane, without changing the Hamiltonian after transition. This result provides a visual explanation for the absence of a negative energy state with the quantum number n=0.
This paper presents new analytic solutions to the Dirac equation employing a recently introduced method that is based on the formulation of spinorial fields and their driving electromagnetic fields in terms of geometric algebras. A first family of solutions describe the shape-preserving translation of a wavepacket along any desired trajectory in the x-y plane. In particular, we show that the dispersionless motion of a Gaussian wavepacket along both elliptical and circular paths can be achieved with rather simple electromagnetic field configurations. A second family of solutions involves a plan…
In our Comment we question the validity of the claim made by the authors of \cite{cc} that their solutions of the Dirac equation in an external {\em time-dependent} electromagnetic field describe beams of electrons. In every time-dependent field, no matter how weak, which has {\em infinite} time duration, there is a continuous electron-positron pair creation and annihilation. Without the proper accounting for these processes, the mathematical solutions of the Dirac equation are not directly applicable to realistic physical situations. In particular, the time evolution of the average values $\l…
We consider the representations of the optical Dirac equation, especially ones where the Hamiltonian is purely real-valued. This is equivalent, for Maxwell's equations, to the Majorana representation of the massless Dirac (Weyl) equation. We draw analogies between the Dirac, chiral and Majorana representations of the Dirac and optical Dirac equations, and derive two new optical Majorana representations. Just as the Dirac and chiral representations are related to optical spin and helicity states, these Majorana representations of the optical Dirac equation are associated with the linear polaris…
A simple framework for Dirac spinors is developed that parametrizes admissible quantum dynamics and also analytically constructs electromagnetic fields, obeying Maxwell's equations, which yield a desired evolution. In particular, we show how to achieve dispersionless rotation and translation of wave packets. Additionally, this formalism can handle control interactions beyond electromagnetic. This work reveals unexpected flexibility of the Dirac equation for control applications, which may open new prospects for quantum technologies.
In his 1963 paper, Dirac [1] gave `A Remarkable Representation of the 3 + 2 de- Sitter Group'. We reproduce this representation using a generalised Jordan map which is motivated by the infinitesimal symplectic transformations related to the four dimensional symplectic group Sp(4). A physical picture of Dirac's representation is also discussed.
We derive new solutions of the Schrödinger, Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations which describe the motion of particles in a uniform magnetic field. In contrast to the well known stationary solutions, our solutions exhibit the behavior of quantum particles which very closely resembles classical helical trajectories. These solutions also serve as an illustration of the meaning of the Ehrenfest theorem in relativistic quantum mechanics.
The resolvent of supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian is studied in detail. Due to supersymmetry the squared Dirac Hamiltonian becomes block-diagonal whose elements are in essence non-relativistic Schrödinger-type Hamiltonians. This enables us to find a Feynman-type path-integral representation of the resulting Green's functions. In addition, we are also able to express the spectral properties of the supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian in terms of those of the non-relativistic Schrödinger Hamiltonians. The methods are explicitly applied to the free Dirac Hamiltonian, the so-called Dirac oscillator an…
Resonance plays critical roles in the formation of many physical phenomena, and many techniques have been developed for the exploration of resonance. In a recent letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 062502 (2016)], we proposed a new method for probing single-particle resonances by solving the Dirac equation in complex momentum representation for spherical nuclei. Here, we extend this method to deformed nuclei with theoretical formalism presented. We elaborate numerical details, and calculate the bound and resonant states in $^{37}$Mg. The results are compared with those from the coordinate representa…
The aim of this work is to find exact solutions of the Dirac equation in 1+1 space-time beyond the already known class. We consider exact spin (and pseudo-spin) symmetric Dirac equations where the scalar potential is equal to plus (and minus) the vector potential. We also include pseudo-scalar potentials in the interaction. The spinor wavefunction is written as a bounded sum in a complete set of square integrable basis, which is chosen such that the matrix representation of the Dirac wave operator is tridiagonal and symmetric. This makes the matrix wave equation a symmetric three-term recursio…
We examine the bound state solutions of the Dirac equation under the spin and pseudospin symmetries for a new suggested combined potential, Hulten plus a class of Yukawa potential including a Coulomb-like tensor interaction. An improved scheme is employed to deal with the centrifugal (pseudo-centrifugal) term. Using the Nikiforov-Uvarov and SUSYQM methods, we analytically develop the relativistic energy eigenvalues and associated Dirac spinor components of wave functions. We find that both methods give entirely the same results. Modifiable of our results into some particular potential cases, u…
Resonance plays critical roles in the formation of many physical phenomena, and several methods have been developed for the exploration of resonance. In this work, we propose a new scheme for resonance by solving the Dirac equation in complex momentum representation, in which the resonant states are exposed clearly in complex momentum plane and the resonance parameters can be determined precisely without imposing unphysical parameters. Combining with the relativistic mean-field theory, this method is applied to probe the resonances in $^{120}$Sn with the energies, widths, and wavefunctions bei…
New exact analytical bound-state solutions of the radial Dirac equation in 3+1 dimensions for two sets of couplings and radial potential functions are obtained via mapping onto the nonrelativistic bound-state solutions of the one-dimensional generalized Morse potential. The eigenfunctions are expressed in terms of generalized Laguerre polynomials, and the eigenenergies are expressed in terms of solutions of equations that can be transformed into polynomial equations. Several analytical results found in the literature, including the Dirac oscillator, are obtained as particular cases of this uni…
