The orbit method of Kirillov is used to derive the p-mechanical brackets [quant-ph/0212101]. They generate the quantum (Moyal) and classic (Poisson) brackets on respective orbits corresponding to representations of the Heisenberg group. The extension of p-mechanics to field theory is made through the De Donder-Weyl Hamiltonian formulation. The principal step is the substitution of the Heisenberg group with Galilean. The De Donder-Weyl (DW) covariant Hamiltonian formulation of Palatini first-order Lagrangian of vielbein (tetrad) gravity and its precanonical quantization are presented. No splitting into the space and time is required in this formulation. Our recent generalization of Dirac brackets is used to treat the second class primary constraints appearing in the DW Hamiltonian formulation and to find the fundamental brackets. Quantization of the latter yields the representation of vielbeins as differential operators with respect to the spin connection coefficients, and the Dirac-like precanonical Schrö…
Elements of the quantization in field theory based on the covariant polymomentum Hamiltonian formalism (the De Donder-Weyl theory), a possibility of which was originally discussed in 1934 by Born and Weyl, are developed. The approach is based on a recently proposed graded Poisson bracket on differential forms in field theory (see e.g. hep-th/9709229). A covariant analogue of the Schrödinger equation for a hypercomplex wave function on the space of field and space-time variables is put forward. It is shown to lead to the De Donder-Weyl Hamilton-Jacobi equations in quasiclassical limit. A possib…

A theoretical scheme, based on a probabilistic generalization of the Hamilton's principle, is elaborated to obtain an unified description of more general dynamical behaviors determined both from a lagrangian function and by mechanisms not contemplated by this function. Within this scheme, quantum mechanics, classical field theory and a quantum theory for scalar fields are discussed. As a by-product of the probabilistic scheme for classical field theory, the equations of the De Donder-Weyl theory for multi-dimensional variational problems are recovered.
I present a short overview of my recent achievements on the Bohmian interpretation of relativistic quantum mechanics, quantum field theory and string theory. This includes the relativistic-covariant Bohmian equations for particle trajectories, the problem of particle creation and destruction, the Bohmian interpretation of fermionic fields and the intrinsically Bohmian quantization of fields and strings based on the De Donder-Weyl covariant canonical formalism.
The covariant canonical method of quantization based on the De Donder-Weyl covariant canonical formalism is used to formulate a world-sheet covariant quantization of bosonic strings. To provide the consistency with the standard non-covariant canonical quantization, it is necessary to adopt a Bohmian deterministic hidden-variable equation of motion. In this way, string theory suggests a solution to the problem of measurement in quantum mechanics.
The product of quantum mechanics is defined as the ordinary multiplication followed by the application of superoperator that orders involved operators. The operator version of Poisson bracket is defined being the Lie bracket which substitutes commutator in the von Neumann equation. These result in obstruction free quantization, with the ordering rule which coincides with Weyl ordering rule.
The Weyl-Wigner map yields the entire structure of Moyal quantum mechanics directly from the standard operator formulation. The covariant generalization of Moyal theory, also known as Vey quantum mechanics, was presented in the literature many years ago. However, a derivation of the formalism directly from standard operator quantum mechanics, clarifying the relation between the two formulations is still missing. In this paper we present a covariant generalization of the Weyl order prescription and of the Weyl-Wigner map and use them to derive Vey quantum mechanics directly from the standard op…
The Wigner-Weyl isomorphism for quantum mechanics on a compact simple Lie group $G$ is developed in detail. Several New features are shown to arise which have no counterparts in the familiar Cartesian case. Notable among these is the notion of a `semiquantised phase space', a structure on which the Weyl symbols of operators turn out to be naturally defined and, figuratively speaking, located midway between the classical phase space $T^*G$ and the Hilbert space of square integrable functions on $G$. General expressions for the star product for Weyl symbols are presented and explicitly worked ou…
Using the Wigner-Weyl mapping of quantum mechanics to phase space we consider exactly the quantum mechanics of an harmonic oscillator driven by an external white noise force or whose frequency is time dependent, either adiabatically or parametrically. We find several transition probabilities exactly. We also consider the (quantum mechanical) randomizing effects of the external white noise force on the Weyl quantized phase angle and upon other Weyl quantized quantities.
A new version of hidden variables theory founded on the generalisation of world's geometry is proposed. The quantum-mechanical motion as the motion in some "inner space", which has a structure of the integrable Weyl space is examined. Equations of motion for a quantum particle as well as equations for the quantum-mechanical field, "guiding" the particle, are deduced. The wave equation for quantum ensembles, the Born's interpretation of wave function and the "guiding equation" as consequences of proposed model are obtained.
An extension of the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal formulation of quantum mechanics suitable for a Dirac quantized constrained system is proposed. In this formulation, quantum observables are described by equivalent classes of Weyl symbols. The Weyl product of these equivalent classes is defined. The new Moyal bracket is shown to be compatible with the Dirac bracket for constrained systems.

Dirac's ket-bra formalism is the "language" of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. In Refs.(Fan et al, Ann. Phys. 321 (2006) 480; 323 (2008) 500) we have reviewed how to apply Newton-Leibniz integration rules to Dirac's ket-bra projectors. In this work by alternately using the technique of integration within normal, antinormal, and Weyl ordering of operators we not only derive some new operator ordering identities, but also deduce some useful integration formulas regarding to Laguerre and Hermite polynomials. This opens a new route of deriving mathematical integration formulas by virtu…
We propose a manifestly covariant canonical method of field quantization based on the classical De Donder-Weyl covariant canonical formulation of field theory. Owing to covariance, the space and time arguments of fields are treated on an equal footing. To achieve both covariance and consistency with standard noncovariant canonical quantization of fields in Minkowski spacetime, it is necessary to adopt a covariant Bohmian formulation of quantum field theory. A preferred foliation of spacetime emerges dynamically owing to a purely quantum effect. The application to a simple time-reparametrizatio…
The statistical model of quantum mechanics is based on the mapping between operators on the Hilbert space and functions on the phase space. This map can be implemented by an operator that satisfies physically motivated Stratonovich-Weyl axioms. Arguments are given in favour of a certain extension of the axioms, provided that there is a priori knowledge about the composite nature of the quantum system.
Since the 1935 proposal by Einstein Podolsky and Rosen the riddle of nonlocality, today demonstrated by innumerable experiments, has been a cause of concern and confusion within the debate over the foundations of quantum mechanics. The present paper tackles the problem by a non relativistic approach based on the Weyl's conformal differential geometry applied to the Hamilton-Jacobi solution of the dynamical problem of two entangled spin 1/2 particles. It is found that the nonlocality rests on the entanglement of the spin internal variables, playing the role of "hidden variables". At the end, th…
Some attention in the literature has been given to the case of a particle of spin 1/2 on the background of the external monopole potential. Some aspects of this problem are reexamined here. The primary technical novelty is that the tetrad generally relativistic method of Tetrode-Weyl-Fock-Ivanenko for describing a spinor particle is exploited. The choice of the formalism has turned out to be of great fruitfulness for examining the system. It is matter that, as known, the use of a special spherical tetrad in the theory of a spin 1/2 particle had led Schrodinger to a basis of remarkable features…
Using operators' Weyl ordering expansion formula (Hong-yi Fan,\emph{\}J. Phys. A 25 (1992) 3443) we find new two-fold integration transformation about the Wigner operator $Δ(q',p')$ ($q$-number transform) in phase space quantum mechanics, \[ \iint_{-\infty}^\infty dp' dq'/πΔ(q',p') e^{-2i(p-p') (q-q')} =δ(p-P) δ(q-Q), \] and its inverse \[\iint_{-\infty}^\infty dq dp δ(p-P) δ(q-Q) e^{2i(p-p') (q-q')}=Δ(q',p'), \] where $Q,$ $P$ are the coordinate and momentum operators, respectively. We apply it to studying mutual converting formulas among $Q-P$ ordering, $P-Q$ ordering and Weyl ordering of op…
A fluid analog of the information flux in the phase-space associated to purity and von Neumann entropy are identified in the Weyl-Wigner formalism of quantum mechanics. Once constrained by symmetry and positiveness, the encountered continuity equations provide novel quantifiers for non-classicality (non-Liouvillian fluidity) given in terms of quantum decoherence, purity and von Neumann entropy fluxes. Through definitions in the Weyl-Wigner formalism, one can identify the quantum fluctuations that distort the classical-quantum coincidence regime, and the corresponding quantum information profil…
Since the very early days of quantum theory there have been numerous attempts to interpret quantum mechanics as a statistical theory. This is equivalent to describing quantum states and ensembles together with their dynamics entirely in terms of phase-space distributions. Finite dimensional systems have historically been an issue. In recent works [Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 180401 and Phys. Rev. A 96, 022117] we presented a framework for representing any quantum state as a complete continuous Wigner function. Here we extend this work to its partner function -- the Weyl function. In doing so we comp…
We investigate the Weyl-Wigner-Gröenewold-Moyal, the Stratonovich and the Berezin group quantization schemes for the space-space noncommutative Heisenberg-Weyl group. We show that the $\star$-product for the deformed algebra of Weyl functions for the first scheme is different than that for the other two, even though their respective quantum mechanics' are equivalent as far as expectation values are concerned, provided that some additional criteria are imposed on the implementation of this process. We also show that it is the $\star$-product associated with the Stratonovich and the Berezin form…
The notion of phase plays an esential role in both classical and quantum mechanics. But what is a phase? We show that if we define the notion of phase in phase (!) space one can very easily and naturally recover the Heisenberg-Weyl formalism; this is achieved using the properties of the Poincare-Cartan invariant, and without making any quantum assumption.
Classical model of light in helicity formalism is presented. Then quantum point of view at photons -- construction and interpretation of photon wave function is proposed. Quantum mechanics of photon is investigated. The Białynicki -- Birula scalar product $\langle {\bf Ψ}_{1}|{\bf Ψ}_{2}\rangle_{BB}$ and the generalized Hermitian conjugation $\widehatγ^{+\hspace{-0.45em}+}$ of linear operator $\widehatγ$ are discussed. Quantum description of light on a phase space is developed. A photon Wigner function is built.
The well known Poisson Summation Formula is analysed from the perspective of the coherent state systems associated with the Heisenberg--Weyl group. In particular, it is shown that the Poisson summation formula may be viewed abstractly as a relation between two sets of bases (Zak bases) arising as simultaneous eigenvectors of two commuting unitary operators in which geometric phase plays a key role. The Zak bases are shown to be interpretable as generalised coherent state systems of the Heisenberg--Weyl group and this, in turn, prompts analysis of the sampling theorem (an important and useful c…
In this work we present a derivation of Dirac's equation in a curved space-time starting from a Weyl-invariant action principle in 4+K dimensions. The Weyl invariance of Dirac's equation (and of Quantum Mechanics in general) is made possible by observing that the difference between the Weyl and the Riemann scalar curvatures in a metric space is coincident with Bohm's Quantum potential. This circumstance allows a completely geometrical formulation of Quantum Mechanics, the Conformal Quantum Geometrodynamics (CQG), which was proved to be useful, for example, to clarify some aspects of the quantu…
The article explores a new formalism for describing motion in quantum mechanics. The construction is based on generalized coherent states with evolving fiducial vector. Weyl-Heisenberg coherent states are utilised to split quantum systems into `classical' and `quantum' degrees of freedom. The decomposition is found to be equivalent to quantum mechanics perceived from a semi-classical frame. The split allows for introduction of a new definition of classical state and is a convenient starting point for approximate analysis of quantum dynamics. An example of a meta-stable state is given as a prac…
The paper is a survey of some author's results related with the Maslov--Shvedov method of complex germ and with quantum field theory. The main idea is that many results of the method of complex germ and of perturbative quantum field theory can be made more simple and natural if instead of the algebra of (pseudo)differential operators one uses the Weyl algebra (operators with Weyl symbols) with the Moyal *-product. Section 1, devoted to quantum mechanics, contains a closed mathematical description of the Maslov--Shvedov method in the theory of Schrodinger equation, including the method of canon…
The Weyl-Wigner-Moyal formalism of fermionic classical systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom is considered. This correspondence is studied by computing the relevant Stratonovich-Weyl quantizer. The Moyal $\star$-product, Wigner functions and normal ordering are obtained for generic fermionic systems. Finally, this formalism is used to perform the deformation quantization of the Fermi oscillator and the supersymmetric quantum mechanics.
Recent research in the geometric formulation of quantum theory has implied that Weyl Geometry can be used to merge quantum theory and general relativity consistently as classical field theories. In the Weyl Geometric framework, it seems that both quantum theory and gravity can merge consistently, once quantum theory is geometrized. The extended differential geometry can modify the quantum mechanical results into a more general nonlinear framework. Author shows that, how the extended differential geometry modifies the known quantum equations and also the modification to the Maxwell's electromag…
We derive a semi-classical nonequilibrium work identity by applying the Wigner-Weyl quantization scheme to the Jarzynski identity for a classical Hamiltonian. This allows us, to the leading order in $\hbar$, to overcome the problem of defining the concept of work in quantum mechanics. We propose a geometric interpretation of this semi-classical relation in terms of trajectories in a complex phase space and illustrate it with the exactly solvable case of the quantum harmonic oscillator.
The traditional standard theory of quantum mechanics is unable to solve the spin-statistics problem, i.e. to justify the utterly important \qo{Pauli Exclusion Principle} but by the adoption of the complex standard relativistic quantum field theory. In a recent paper (Ref. [1]) we presented a proof of the spin-statistics problem in the nonrelativistic approximation on the basis of the \qo{Conformal Quantum Geometrodynamics}. In the present paper, by the same theory the proof of the Spin-Statistics Theorem is extended to the relativistic domain in the general scenario of curved spacetime. The re…
The paper provides an introduction into p-mechanics, which is a consistent physical theory suitable for a simultaneous description of classical and quantum mechanics. p-Mechanics naturally provides a common ground for several different approaches to quantisation (geometric, Weyl, coherent states, Berezin, deformation, Moyal, etc.) and has a potential for expansions into field and string theories. The backbone of p-mechanics is solely the representation theory of the Heisenberg group. Keywords: Classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, Moyal brackets, Poisson brackets, commutator, Heisenberg grou…
We present a method for calculating expectation values of operators in terms of a corresponding c-function formalism which is not the Wigner--Weyl position-momentum phase-space, but another space. Here, the quantity representing the quantum system is the expectation value of the displacement operator, parametrized by the position and momentum displacements, and expectation values are evaluated as classical integrals over these parameters. The displacement operator is found to offer a complete orthogonal basis for operators, and some of its other properties are investigated. Connection to the W…
We study a toy model for "partially open" wave-mechanical system, like for instance a dielectric micro-cavity, in the semiclassical limit where ray dynamics is applicable. Our model is a quantized map on the 2-dimensional torus, with an additional damping at each time step, resulting in a subunitary propagator, or "damped quantum map". We obtain analogues of Weyl's laws for such maps in the semiclassical limit, and draw some more precise estimates when the classical dynamic is chaotic.
We perform a non-perturbative analysis of the dynamics of a two-level quantum system subjected to repeated interactions with a bosonic environment when these interactions are intense and localized in time. We use the Weyl relations to obtain a closed expression for the resulting state of the spin despite the non-perturbative nature of the problem. Furthermore, we study divisibility and memory effects in the dynamics and draw conclusions about the role that the quantum-mechanical features of the environment play on the dynamics of the two-level system.
We study deformations of the harmonic oscillator algebra known as polynomial Heisenberg algebras (PHAs), and establish a connection between them and extended affine Weyl groups of type $A^{(1)}_m$, where $m$ is the degree of the PHA. To establish this connection, we employ supersymmetric quantum mechanics to first connect a polynomial Heisenberg algebra to symmetric systems of differential equations. This connection has been previously used to relate quantum systems to non-linear differential equations; most notably, the fourth and fifth Painlevé equations. Once this is done, we use previous s…
A Lie algebraic approach to the unitary transformations in Weyl quantization is discussed. This approach, being formally equivalent to the $\star$-quantization, is an extension of the classical Poisson-Lie formalism which can be used as an efficient tool in the quantum phase space transformation theory.
Peres/Mermin arguments about no-hidden variables in quantum mechanics are used for displaying a pair (R, S) of entangling Clifford quantum gates, acting on two qubits. From them, a natural unitary representation of Coxeter/Weyl groups W(D5) and W(F4) emerges, which is also reflected into the splitting of the n-qubit Clifford group Cn into dipoles C$\pm$n . The union of the three-qubit real Clifford group C+ 3 and the Toffoli gate ensures a orthogonal representation of the Weyl/Coxeter group W(E8), and of its relatives. Other concepts involved are complex reflection groups, BN pairs, unitary gr…
The aim of this short Note is to show that the Schrödinger and Heisenberg pictures of quantum mechanics are not equivalent unless one uses a quantization rule clearly stated by Born and Jordan in their famous 1925 paper. This rule is sufficient and necessary to ensure energy conservation in Heisenberg's matrix mechanics. It follows, in particular, that Schrödinger and Heisenberg mechanics are not equivalent if one quantizes observables using the Weyl prescription.
