When a Dirac quantum state interacts with an applied electric field the energy of the quantum state changes. It is generally assumed that there is a maximum limit on the amount of energy that can be extracted from a Dirac quantum state, due to its interaction with an electric field. In this article it is shown that this assumption is not correct and that, for a properly applied electric field, an arbitrarily large amount of energy can be extracted from the quantum state.
It has long been speculated that the Dirac or, more generally, the Dirac-Pauli spinor in the Foldy-Wouthuysen (FW) representation should behave like a classical relativistic spinor in the low-energy limit when the probability of particle-antiparticle pair creation and annihilation is negligible. In the weak-field limit of static and homogeneous electromagnetic fields, by applying the method of direct perturbation theory inductively on the orders of $1/c$ in the power series, we rigorously prove that it is indeed the case: the FW transformation of the Dirac-Pauli Hamiltonian is in full agreemen…
By the large and small wave-function components approach we achieved the nonrela-tivistic limit of the Dirac equation in interaction with an electromagnetic potential in noncommutative phase-space, and we tested the effect of the phase-space noncommutativity on it, knowing that the nonrelativistic limit of the Dirac equation gives the Schrödinger-Pauli equation.
The formalism of Operational Dynamical Modeling [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 109}, 190403 (2012)] is employed to analyze dynamics of spin half relativistic particles. We arrive at the Dirac equation from specially constructed relativistic Ehrenfest theorems by assuming that the coordinates and momenta do not commute. Forbidding creation of antiparticles and requiring the commutativity of the coordinates and momenta lead to classical Spohn's equation [Ann. Phys. {\bf 282}, 420 (2000)]. Moreover, Spohn's equation turns out to be the classical Koopman-von Neumann theory underlying the Dirac equation.
We develop the equivalence between the two-dimensional Dirac oscillator and the anti-Jaynes-Cummings model within a q-deformed scenario. We solve the Hamiltonian spectrum and the time evolution for number and coherent initial states, focusing on the appearance of the Zitterbewegung effect. We show the lack of preservation of the q-deformed versions of the total angular momentum that reproduces a collapse-revival structure. We provide suitable relations for the non relativistic limit.
We apply the method of direct perturbation theory for the Foldy-Wouthuysen (FW) transformation upon the Dirac-Pauli Hamiltonian subject to external electromagnetic fields. The exact FW transformations exist and agree with those obtained by Eriksen's method for two special cases. In the weak-field limit of static and homogeneous electromagnetic fields, by mathematical induction on the orders of $1/c$ in the power series, we rigorously prove the long-held speculation: the FW transformed Dirac-Pauli Hamiltonian is in full agreement with the classical counterpart, which is the sum of the orbital H…
We present a self-consistent mean-field model based on a two-component Pauli-like equation that incorporates quantum and relativistic effects (up to second-order in 1/c) for both external and internal electromagnetic fields. By taking the semi-relativistic limit of the Dirac-Maxwell equations in the presence of an external electromagnetic field we obtain an analytical expression of a coherent light-induced mean-field Hamiltonian. The latter exhibits several mechanisms that involve the internal mean fields created by all the electrons and the external electromagnetic field (laser). The role pla…
We derive the Schrödinger-Newton equation as the non-relativistic limit of the Einstein-Dirac equations. Our analysis relaxes the assumption of spherical symmetry, made in earlier work in the literature, while deriving this limit. Since the spin of the Dirac field couples naturally to torsion, we generalize our analysis to the Einstein Cartan-Dirac (ECD) equations, again recovering the Schrödinger-Newton equation.
We show that the first order form of the Schrodinger equation proposed in [1] can be obtained from the Dirac equation in the non-relativistic limit. We also show that the Pauli Hamiltonian is obtained from this equation by requiring local gauge invariance. In addition, we study the problem of a spin up particle incident on a finite potential barrier and show that the known quantum mechanical results are obtained. Finally, we consider the symmetric potential well and show that the quantum mechanical expression for the quantized energy levels of a particle is obtained with periodic boundary cond…
In this paper we study the nonlinear Dirac (NLD) equation on noncompact metric graphs with localized Kerr nonlinearities, in the case of Kirchhoff-type conditions at the vertices. Precisely, we discuss existence and multiplicity of the bound states (arising as critical points of the NLD action functional) and we prove that, in the $L^2$-subcritical case, they converge to the bound states of the NLS equation in the nonrelativistic limit.
A novel interpretation is given of Dirac's "wave equation for the relativistic electron" as a quantum-mechanical one-particle equation. In this interpretation the electron and the positron are merely the two different "topological spin" states of a single more fundamental particle, not distinct particles in their own right. The new interpretation is backed up by the existence of such bi-particle structures in general relativity, in particular the ring singularity present in any spacelike section of the maximal analytically extended, topologically non-trivial, electromagnetic Kerr-Newman spacet…
