The program to construct minimum-uncertainty coherent states for general potentials works transparently with solvable analytic potentials. However, when an analytic potential is not completely solvable, like for a double-well or the linear (gravitational) potential, there can be a conundrum. Motivated by supersymmetry concepts in higher dimensions, we show how these conundrums can be overcome.
We summarize unusual bound or localized states in quantum mechanics. Our guide through these intriguing phenomena is the classical physics of the upside-down pendulum. Taking advantage of the analogy between the corresponding Newton's equation of motion and the time-independent Schrödinger equation, we discuss the zero-energy ground state in a three-dimensional, spatially oscillating, potential. Moreover, we focus on the effect of the attractive quantum anti-centrifugal potential that only occurs in a two-dimensional situation.
Weak value is increasingly acknowledged as an important research tool for probing quantum pre- and post-selected ensembles, where some extraordinary phenomena occur. We generalize this concept to the broader notion of "weak potential" which enables predicting the interactions between particles when one of them is pre-/post-selected and the interaction potential is small. A harmonic oscillator is considered, undergoing weak position and momentum measurements between strong position measurement, and shown to possess peculiar physical properties, affecting the momentum rather than the position of…
The unusual features of quantum mechanics are enabling the development of technologies not possible with classical physics. These devices utilize nonclassical phenomena in the states of atoms, ions, and solid-state media as the basis for many prototypes. Here we investigate molecular states as a distinct alternative. We demonstrate a memory for light based on storing photons in the vibrations of hydrogen molecules. The THz-bandwidth molecular memory is used to store 100-fs pulses for durations up to 1ns, enabling 10,000 operational time bins. The results demonstrate the promise of molecules fo…
In this paper we present a scheme for constructing the coherent states of Klauder-Perelomov's type for a particle which is trapped in Pöschl-Teller potentials.
We argue that the statistical features of generalized coherent states for power-law potentials based on Heisenberg algebra, presented in a recent paper by Berrada et al (Phys. Lett. A, 375, 298 (2011)) are incorrect.
A recently developed algebraic approach for constructing coherent states for solvable potentials is used to obtain the displacement operator coherent state of the Pöschl-Teller potential. We establish the connection between this and the annihilation operator coherent state and compare their properties. We study the details of the revival structure arising from different time scales underlying the quadratic energy spectrum of this system.
A general algebraic procedure for constructing coherent states of a wide class of exactly solvable potentials e.g., Morse and P{ö}schl-Teller, is given. The method, {\it a priori}, is potential independent and connects with earlier developed ones, including the oscillator based approaches for coherent states and their generalizations. This approach can be straightforwardly extended to construct more general coherent states for the quantum mechanical potential problems, like the nonlinear coherent states for the oscillators. The time evolution properties of some of these coherent states, show r…
We obtain the quantized momentum solutions, $\mathcal{P}_{n}$, of the Feinberg-Horodecki equation. We study the space-like coherent states for the space-like counterpart of the Schrödinger equation with trigonometric Pöschl-Teller potential which is constructed by temporal counterpart of the spatial Pöschl-Teller potential.
We discuss the coherent states for PT-/non-PT-Symmetric and non-Hermitian generalized Morse Potential obtained by using path integral formalism over the holomorphic coordinates. We transform the action of generalized Morse potential into two harmonic oscillators with a new parametric time to establish the parametric time coherent states. We calculate the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding wave functions in parabolic coordinates.
In this paper, we introduce an algebraic approach to construct Fokas-Lagerstrom coherent states. To do so, we define deformed creation and annihilation operators associated to this system and investigate their algebra. We show that these operators satisfy the $f$-deformed Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. Then, we propose a theoretical scheme to generate the aforementioned coherent states. The present contribution shows that the Fokas-Lagerstrom nonlinear coherent states possess some non-classical features.
This article is an illustration of the construction of coherent and generalized intelligent states which has been recently proposed by us for an arbitrary quantum system $[ 1] $. We treat the quantum system submitted to the infinite square well potential and the nonlinear oscillators. By means of the analytical representation of the coherent states à la Gazeau-Klauder and those à la Klauder-Perelomov, we derive the generalized intelligent states in analytical ways.
In this paper we construct coherent states for the two-dimensional Morse potential. We find the dependence of the spectrum on the physical parameters and use this to understand the emergence of accidental degeneracies. It is observed that, under certain conditions pertaining to the irrationality of the parameters, accidental degeneracies do not appear and as such energy levels are at most two-fold degenerate. After defining a non-degenerate spectrum and set of states for the 2D Morse potential, we construct generalised coherent states and discuss the spatial distribution of their probability d…
Supersymmetry is a technique that allows us to extract information about the states and spectra of quantum mechanical systems which may otherwise be unsolvable. In this paper we reconstruct Ioffe's set of states for the singular non-separable two-dimensional Morse potential using supersymmetry from a non-degenerate set of states constructed for the initial separable Morse Hamiltonian. We define generalised coherent states, compute their uncertainty relations, and we find that the singularity in the partner Hamiltonian significantly affects the localisation of the coherent state wavefunction.
Using the Darboux method and its relation with supersymmetric quantum mechanics we construct all SUSY partners of the harmonic oscillator. With the help of the SUSY transformation we introduce ladder operators for these partner Hamiltonians and shown that they close a quadratic algebra. The associated coherent states are constructed and discussed in some detail.
Darboux transformation operators that produce multisoliton potentials are analyzed as operators acting in a Hilbert space. Isometric correspondence between Hilbert spaces of states of a free particle and a particle moving in a soliton potential is established. It is shown that the Darboux transformation operator is unbounded but closed and can not realize an isometric mapping between Hilbert spaces. A quasispectral representation of such an operator in terms of continuum bases is obtained. Different types of coherent states of a multisoliton potential are introduced. Measures that realize the …
By introducing the shape invariant Lie algebra spanned by the SUSY ladder operators plus the unity operator, a new basis is presented for the quantum treatment of the one-dimensional Morse potential. In this discrete, complete orthonormal set, which we call the pseudo number states, the Morse Hamiltonian is tridiagonal. By using this basis we construct coherent states algebraically for the Morse potential, in a close analogy with the harmonic oscillator. We also show that there exists an unitary displacement operator creating these coherent states from the ground state. We show that our cohere…
We prove that coherent perfect absorption (CPA) without lasing is {\bf not} possible in the PT-symmetric domain as the s-matrix is such that $|\det S(\pm k)|=1$. We study coherent scattering from three complex potentials, one solved analytically and the other two numerically. We conjecture that in the domain of unbroken symmetry (when the potential has real discrete spectrum) neither spectral singularity nor CPA can occur. We show that Scarf II potential is a special model that can analytically and explicitly exhibit these as well as other novel phenomena and their subtleties. \pacs{03.65-w, 0…
The position and momentum space information entropies, of the ground state of the Pöschl-Teller potential, are exactly evaluated and are found to satisfy the bound, obtained by Beckner, Bialynicki-Birula and Mycielski. These entropies for the first excited state, for different strengths of the potential well, are then numerically obtained. Interesting features of the entropy densities, owing their origin to the excited nature of the wave functions, are graphically demonstrated. We then compute the position space entropies of the coherent state of the Pöschl-Teller potential, which is known to …
In this paper, we propose an algorithm to construct coherent states for an exactly solvable position dependent mass Schrödinger equation. We use point canonical transformation method and obtain ground state eigenfunction of the position dependent mass Schrödinger equation. We fix the ladder operators in the deformed form and obtain explicit expression of the deformed superpotential in terms of mass distribution and its derivative. We also prove that these deformed operators lead to minimum uncertainty relations. Further, we illustrate our algorithm with two examples in which the coherent state…
A general procedure for constructing coherent states, which are eigenstates of annihilation operators, related to quantum mechanical potential problems, is presented. These coherent states, by construction are not potential specific and rely on the properties of the orthogonal polynomials, for their derivation. The information about a given quantum mechanical potential enters into these states, through the orthogonal polynomials associated with it and also through its ground state wave function. The time evolution of some of these states exhibit fractional revivals, having relevance to the fac…
Two port s-matrix for a complex PT-symmetric potential may have uni-modular eigenvalues. If this happens for all energies, there occurs a perfect emission of waves at both ends. We call this phenomenon transparency which is distinctly different from coherent perfect absorption with or without lasing. Using the versatile PT-symmetric complex Scarf II (scattering) potential, we demonstrate analytically that the transparency can occur regardless of whether PT-symmetry is unbroken or broken or if there are only scattering states. In these three cases, for a given value of the strength of the real …
The Klein-Gordon equation with scalar potential is considered. In the Feshbach-Villars representation the annihilation operator for a linear potential is defined and its eigenstates are obtained. Although the energy levels in this case are not equally-spaced, depending on the eigenvalues of the annihilation operator, the states are nearly coherent and squeezed. The relativistic Poschl-Teller potential is introduced. It is shown that its energy levels are equally-spaced. The coherence of time evolution of the eigenstates of the annihilation operator for this potential is evaluated.
Entanglement-based technologies, such as quantum information processing, quantum simulations, and quantum-enhanced metrology, have the potential to revolutionise our way of computing and measuring and help clarifying the puzzling concept of entanglement itself. Ultracold atoms on atom chips are attractive for their implementation, as they provide control over quantum systems in compact, robust, and scalable setups. An important tool in this system is a potential depending on the internal atomic state. Coherent dynamics in this potential combined with collisional interactions allows entanglemen…
We build coherent states (CS) for unbounded motions along two different procedures. In the first one we adapt the Malkin-Manko construction for quadratic Hamiltonians to the motion of a particle in a linear potential. A generalization to arbitrary potentials is discussed. The second one extends to continuous spectrum previous constructions of action-angle coherent states in view of a consistent energy quantization.
We investigate the nonclassicality of photon-added coherent states in the photon loss channel by exploring the entanglement potential and negative Wigner distribution. The total negative probability defined by the absolute value of the integral of the Wigner function over the negative distribution region reduces with the increase of decay time. The total negative probability and the entanglement potential of pure photon-added coherent states exhibit the similar dependence on the beam intensity. The reduce of the total negative probability is consistent with the behavior of entanglement potenti…
A new family of 2-component vector-valued coherent states for the quantum particle motion in an infinite square well potential is presented. They allow a consistent quantization of the classical phase space and observables for a particle in this potential. We then study the resulting position and (well-defined) momentum operators. We also consider their mean values in coherent states and their quantum dispersions.
In this study, we construct the coherent states for a particle in the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz potential by finding the conserved charge coherent states of the four harmonic oscillators in the polar coordinates. We also derive the energy eigenstates of the potential and show that the center of the coherent states follow the classical orbits of the particle.
Generalized coherent states for shape invariant potentials are constructed using an algebraic approach based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We show this generalized formalism is able to: a) supply the essential requirements necessary to establish a connection between classical and quantum formulations of a given system (continuity of labeling, resolution of unity, temporal stability, and action identity); b) reproduce results already known for shape-invariant systems, like harmonic oscillator, double anharmonic, Poschl-Teller and self-similar potentials and; c) point to a formalism that …
We introduce a generalization structure of the su(1,1) algebra which depends on a function of one generator of the algebra, f(H). Following the same ideas developed to the generalized Heisenberg algebra (GHA) and to the generalized su(2), we show that a symmetry is present in the sequence of eigenvalues of one generator of the algebra. Then, we construct the Barut-Girardello coherent states associated with the generalized su(1,1) algebra for a particle in a Pöschl-Teller potential. Furthermore, we compare the time evolution of the uncertainty relation of the constructed coherent states with th…
We propose a generalized su(2) algebra that perfectly describes the discrete energy part of the Morse potential. Then, we examine particular examples and the approach can be applied to any Morse oscillator and to practically any physical system whose spectrum is finite. Further, we construct the Klauder coherent state for Morse potential satisfying the resolution of identity with a positive measure, obtained through the solution of truncated Stieltjes moment problem. The time evolution of the uncertainty relation of the constructed coherent states is analyzed. The uncertainty relation is more …
We construct generalized coherent states for the rationally extended Scarf-I potential. Statistical and geometrical properties of these states are investigated. Special emphasis is given to the study of spatio-temporal properties of the coherent states via the quantum carpet structure and the auto-correlation function. Through this study, we aim to find the signature of the `"rationalisation" of the conventional potentials and the classical orthogonal polynomials.
We investigate arrays of three traps with two fermionic or bosonic atoms. The tunneling interaction between neighboring sites is used to prepare multi-site dark states for the empty site, i.e., the hole, allowing for the coherent manipulation of its external degrees of freedom. By means of an ab initio integration of the Schrödinger equation, we investigate the adiabatic transport of a hole between the two extreme traps of a triple-well potential. Furthermore, a quantum-trajectory approach based on the de Broglie-Bohm formulation of quantum mechanics is used to get physical insight into the tr…
In this work we make use of deformed operators to construct the coherent states of some nonlinear systems by generalization of two definitions: i) As eigenstates of a deformed annihilation operator and ii) by application of a deformed displacement operator to the vacuum state. We also construct the coherent states for the same systems using the ladder operators obtained by traditional methods with the knowledge of the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the corresponding Schrödinger equation. We show that both methods yield coherent states with identical algebraic structure.
A brief description of the relations between the factorization method in quantum mechanics, self-similar potentials, integrable systems and the theory of special functions is given. New coherent states of the harmonic oscillator related to the Fourier transformation are constructed.
The Morse potential is relatively closed to the harmonic oscillator quantum system. Thus, following the idea used for the latter, we study the possibility of creating entanglement using squeezed coherent states of the Morse potential as an input field of a beam splitter. We measure the entanglement with the linear entropy for two types of such states and we study the dependence with the coherence and squeezing parameters. The new results are linked with observations made on probability densities and uncertainty relations of those states. The dynamical evolution of the linear entropy is also ex…
For an asymmetric double-well potential system, it is shown that, if the potential is quadratic until it reaches several times of the zero-point energies from the bottoms in each well, the energy eigenvalues of the low lying excited states of the double-well system must be close to the eigenvalues of the quadratic potentials. These eigenvalue structures suggest a method for the coherent control of the tunneling as well as realizing almost complete localization of the wave packet in one of the wells, by handling the double-well asymmetry. Numerical examples are included to indicate that the met…
We decouple the Dirac's radial equations in $D+1$ dimensions with Coulomb-type scalar and vector potentials through appropriate transformations. We study each of these uncoupled second-order equations in an algebraic way by using an $su(1,1)$ algebra realization. Based on the theory of irreducible representations, we find the energy spectrum and the radial eigenfunctions. We construct the Perelomov coherent states for the Sturmian basis, which is the basis for the unitary irreducible representation of the $su(1,1)$ Lie algebra. The physical radial coherent states for our problem are obtained b…
Ladder operators for the hyperbolic Rosen-Morse (RMII) potential are realized using the shape invariance property appearing, in particular, using supersymmetric quantum mechanics. The extension of the ladder operators to a specific class of rational extensions of the RMII potential is presented and discussed. Coherent states are then constructed as almost eigenstates of the lowering operators. Some properties are analyzed and compared. The ladder operators and coherent states constructions presented are extended to the case of the trigonometric Rosen-Morse (RMI) potential using a point canonic…
We show that generalized coherent states follow Schrödinger dynamics in time-dependent potentials. The normalized wave-packets follow a classical evolution without spreading; in turn, the Schrödinger potential depends on the state through the classical trajectory. This feedback mechanism with continuous dynamical re-adjustement allows the packets to remain coherent indefinetely.
In a recent short note [Bergeron H, Gazeau J P, Siegl P and Youssef A 2010 EPL 92 60003], we have presented the nice properties of a new family of semi-classical states for Pöschl-Teller potentials. These states are built from a supersymmetric quantum mechanics approach and the parameters of these "coherent" states are points in the classical phase space. In this article we develop all the mathematical aspects that have been left apart in the previous article (proof of the resolution of unity, detailed calculations of quantized version of classical observables and mathematical study of the res…
This paper examines the nature of classical correspondence in the case of coherent states at the level of quantum trajectories. We first show that for a harmonic oscillator, the coherent state complex quantum trajectories and the complex classical trajectories are identical to each other. This congruence in the complex plane, not restricted to high quantum numbers alone, illustrates that the harmonic oscillator in a coherent state executes classical motion. The quantum trajectories are those conceived in a modified de Broglie-Bohm scheme and we note that identical classical and quantum traject…
A variety of coherent states of the harmonic oscillator is considered. It is formed by a particular superposition of canonical coherent states. In the simplest case, these superpositions are eigenfunctions of the annihilation operator $A=P(d/dx+x)/\sqrt2$, where $P$ is the parity operator. Such $A$ arises naturally in the $q\to -1$ limit for a symmetry operator of a specific self-similar potential obeying the $q$-Weyl algebra, $AA^\dagger-q^2A^\dagger A=1$. Coherent states for this and other reflectionless potentials whose discrete spectra consist of $N$ geometric series are analyzed. In the h…
