We describe a family of coherent states and an associated resolution of the identity for a quantum particle whose classical configuration space is the d-dimensional sphere S^d. The coherent states are labeled by points in the associated phase space T*(S^d). These coherent states are NOT of Perelomov type but rather are constructed as the eigenvectors of suitably defined annihilation operators. We describe as well the Segal-Bargmann representation for the system, the associated unitary Segal-Bargmann transform, and a natural inversion formula. Although many of these results are in principle special cases of the results of B. Hall and M. Stenzel, we give here a substantially different description based on ideas of T. Thiemann and of K. Kowalski and J. Rembielinski. All of these results can be generalized to a system whose configuration space is an arbitrary compact symmetric space. We focus on the sphere case in order to be able to carry out the calculations in a self-contained and explicit way.
We introduce an extended class of cross-Toeplitz operators which act between Fock--Segal--Bargmann spaces with different weights. It is natural to consider these operators in the framework of representation theory of the Heisenberg group. Our main technique is representation of cross-Toeplitz by two-sided relative convolutions from the Heisenberg group. In turn, two-sided convolutions are reduced to usual (one-sided) convolutions on the Heisenberg group of the doubled dimensionality. This allows us to utilise the powerful group-representation technique of coherent states, co- and contra-varian…
In this paper, we construct the $m$-photon-added and $m$-photon-subtracted coherent states on a sphere. These states are shown to satisfy the usual conditions of continuity in the label, normalizability and the resolution of identity. The preparation of the constructed states, as the states of radiation field is considered. We examine and analyze the nonclassical properties of these states, including the photon mean number, Mandel parameter and quadrature squeezing. We find that these states are sub-Poissonian in nature, whereas the degree of squeezing is reduced (enhanced) by increasing $m$ f…
A theoretical scheme for the realization of the sphere-coherent motional states in an optomechanical cavity in the presence of a two-level atom is proposed. To this end, the analogy between an atom-assisted optomechanical cavity and a laser-driven trapped-ion system is used. This analogy provides us with a theoretical tool to show how sphere-coherent states can be generated for the motional degree of freedom of the macroscopic mechanical oscillator from atom-field-mirror interactions in a multi-mode optomechanical cavity. Some nonclassical properties of the generated state of the mechanical os…
In this paper, we examine the modification of specific nonclassical properties of the nonlinear coherent state on sphere upon perpendicular propagation through an absorptive and dispersive dielectric slab at finite temperature. For this purpose, by describing the dielectric dispersion of the slab by Lorentz model, the quadrature squeezing and the Mandel parameter are evaluated for the transmitted state. A generalization of single-mode nonlinear coherent state to the continuum-mode is considered. The degree of second-order coherence is instead calculated for a continuum nonlinear coherent state…
We present a new procedure which allows a coherent state (CS) quantization of any set with a measure. It is manifest through the replacement of classical observables by CS quantum observables, which acts on a Hilbert space of prescribed dimension $N$. The algebra of CS quantum observables has the finite dimension $N^2$. The application to the 2-sphere provides a family of inequivalent CS quantizations, based on the spin spherical harmonics (the CS quantization from usual spherical harmonics appears to give a trivial issue for the cartesian coordinates). We compare these CS quantizations to the…
The fuzzy sphere, as a quantum metric space, carries a sequence of metrics which we describe in detail. We show that the Bloch coherent states, with these spectral distances, form a sequence of metric spaces that converge to the round sphere in the high-spin limit.
Quantum teleportation is the transfer of quantum information between two locations by the use of shared entanglement. Current teleportation schemes broadly fall under one of two categories, of either qubit or continuous variables teleportation. Spin coherent states on spin ensembles can be teleported under the continuous variables approximation for states with small deviations from a given polarization. However, for spin coherent states with large deviations, no convenient teleportation protocol exists. Recently, we introduced a teleportation scheme where a spin coherent state lying on the equ…
Spin states of maximal projection along some direction in space are called (spin) coherent, and are, in many aspects, the "most classical" available. For any spin $s$, the spin coherent states form a 2-sphere in the projective Hilbert space $\mathbb{P}$ of the system. We address several questions regarding that sphere, in particular its possible intersections with complex lines. We also find that, like Dali's iconic clocks, it extends in all possible directions in $\mathbb{P}$. We give a simple expression for the Majorana constellation of the linear combination of two coherent states, and use …
The dynamics is investigated of a free particle on a sphere (rigid rotor or rotator) that is initially in a coherent state. The instability of coherent states with respect to the free evolution leads to nontrivial time-development of averages of observables representing the position of a particle on a sphere that can be interpreted as quantum beats.
The spin resonance of electrons can be coupled to a microwave cavity mode to obtain a photon-magnon hybrid system. These quantum systems are widely studied for both fundamental physics and technological quantum applications. In this article, the behavior of a large number of ferrimagnetic spheres coupled to a single cavity is put under test. We use second-quantization modeling of harmonic oscillators to theoretically describe our experimental setup and understand the influence of several parameters. The magnon-polariton dispersion relation is used to characterize the system, with a particular …
With a recently introduced geometric momentum that depends on the extrinsic curvature and offers a proper description of momentum on two-dimensional sphere, we show that the annihilation operators whose eigenstates are coherent states on the sphere take the expected form αx+iβp, where α and β are two operators that depend on the angular momentum and x and p are the position and the geometric momentum, respectively. Since the geometric momentum is manifestly a consequence of embedding the two-dimensional sphere in the three-dimensional flat space, the coherent states reflects some aspects beyon…
The notions of qubits and coherent states correspond to different physical systems and are described by specific formalisms. Qubits are associated with a two-dimensional Hilbert space and can be illustrated on the Bloch sphere. In contrast, the underlying Hilbert space of coherent states is infinite-dimensional and the states are typically represented in phase space. For the particular case of binary coherent state alphabets these otherwise distinct formalisms can equally be applied. We capitalize this formal connection to analyse the properties of optimally cloned binary coherent states. Seve…
We reanalyze the non-linear population dynamics of a Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) in a double well trap considering a semiclassical approach based on a time dependent variational principle applied to coherent states associated to SU(2) group. Employing a two-mode local approximation and hard sphere type interaction, we show in the Schwinger's pseudo-spin language the occurrence of a fixed point bifurcation that originates a separatrix of motion on a sphere. This separatrix corresponds to the borderline between two dynamical regimes of Josephson oscillations and mesoscopic self-trapping. We a…
