We present a new procedure which allows a coherent state (CS) quantization of any set with a measure. It is manifest through the replacement of classical observables by CS quantum observables, which acts on a Hilbert space of prescribed dimension $N$. The algebra of CS quantum observables has the finite dimension $N^2$. The application to the 2-sphere provides a family of inequivalent CS quantizations, based on the spin spherical harmonics (the CS quantization from usual spherical harmonics appears to give a trivial issue for the cartesian coordinates). We compare these CS quantizations to the usual (Madore) construction of the fuzzy sphere. The difference allows us to consider our procedures as the constructions of new type of fuzzy spheres. The very general character of our method suggests applications to construct fuzzy versions of a variety of sets.
In Phys. Rev. A 70, 032104 (2004), M. Montesinos and G. F. Torres del Castillo consider various symplectic structures on the classical phase space of the two-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator. Using Dirac's quantization condition, the authors investigate how these alternative symplectic forms affect this system's quantization. They claim that these symplectic structures result in mutually inequivalent quantum theories. In fact, we show here that there exists a unitary map between the two representation spaces so that the various quantizations are equivalent.
Quantum Space-Time and Phase Space with fuzzy geometric structure are studied as possible formalism for quantization of massive particles and fields. In this approach the state of nonrelativistic particle m described by the fuzzy point of fuzzy (weakly) ordered Manifold X. Due to m partial ordering in X m coordinate x principal uncertainty is generic in this ansatz. It's shown that in 1+1 dimension such Fuzzy Mechanics (FM) is equivalent to Path Integral formalism of Quantum Mechanics (QM).
A path-integral quantization on a homogeneous space G/H is proposed based on the guiding principle `first lift to G and then project to G/H'. It is then shown that this principle gives a simple procedure to obtain the inequivalent quantizations (superselection sectors) along with the holonomy factor (induced gauge field) found earlier by algebraic approaches. We also prove that the resulting matrix-valued path-integral is physically equivalent to the scalar-valued path-integral derived in the Dirac approach, and thereby present a unified viewpoint to discuss the basic features of quantizing on…
We discuss the representations of the algebra of quantization, the canonical commutation relations, in a scalar quantum field theory with spontaneously broken U(1) internal symmetry, when a topological defect of the vortex type is formed via the condensation of Nambu-Goldstone particles. We find that the usual thermodynamic limit is not necessary in order to have the inequivalent representations needed for the existence of physically disjoint phases of the system. This is a new type of inequivalence, due to the nontrivial topological structure of the phase space, that appears at finite volume.…
The quantum space-time and the phase space with fuzzy structure is investigated as the possible quantization formalism. In this theory the state of nonrelativistic particle corresponds to the element of fuzzy ordered set (Foset) - fuzzy point. Due to Foset partial (weak) ordering, particle's space coordinate x acquires principal uncertainty dx. It's shown that Shroedinger formalism of Quantum Mechanics can be completely derived from consideration of particle evolution in fuzzy phase space with minimal number of axioms.
Dodson-Zeeman fuzzy topology considered as the possible mathematical framework of quantum geometric formalism. In such formalism the states of massive particle m correspond to elements of fuzzy manifold called fuzzy points. Due to their weak (partial) ordering, m space coordinate x acquires principal uncertainty dx. It's shown that m evolution with minimal number of additional assumptions obeys to schroedinger and dirac formalisms in norelativistic and relativistic cases correspondingly. It's argued that particle's interactions on such fuzzy manifold should be gauge invariant.
We analyze the quantum dynamics of the non-relativistic two-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator in Heisenberg's picture. Such a system is taken as toy model to analyze some of the various quantum theories that can be built from the application of Dirac's quantization rule to the various symplectic structures recently reported for this classical system. It is pointed out that that these quantum theories are inequivalent in the sense that the mean values for the operators (observables) associated with the same physical classical observable do not agree with each other. The inequivalence do…
Within the Hamiltonian framework, the propositions about a classical physical system are described in the Borel σ-algebra of a symplectic manifold (the phase space) where logical connectives are the standard set operations. Considering the geometric formulation of quantum mechanics we give a description of quantum propositions in terms of fuzzy events in a complex projective space equipped with Kähler structure (the quantum phase space) obtaining a quantized version of a fuzzy logic by deformation of the product t-norm.
We show that the strength of non-commutativity could play a role in determining the boundary condition of a physical problem. As a toy model we consider the inverse square problem in non-commutative space. The scale invariance of the system is known to be explicitly broken by the scale of non-commutativity Θ. The resulting problem in non-commutative space is analyzed. It is shown that despite the presence of higher singular potential coming from the leading term of the expansion of the potential to first order in Θ, it can have a self-adjoint extensions. The boundary conditions are obtained, b…
This paper introduces the parastatistics induced by ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded algebras. It accommodates four kinds of particles: ordinary bosons and three types of parabosons which mutually anticommute when belonging to different type (so far, in the literature, only parastatistics induced by ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded superalgebras and producing parafermions have been considered). It is shown how to detect ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded parabosons in the multi-particle sector of a quantum model. The difference with respect to a system composed by o…
A construction of the 2d and 4d fuzzy de Sitter hyperboloids is carried out by using a (vector) coherent state quantization. We get a natural discretization of the dS "time" axis based on the spectrum of Casimir operators of the respective maximal compact subgroups SO(2) and SO(4) of the de Sitter groups SO\_0(1,2) and SO\_0(1,4). The continuous limit at infinite spins is examined.
Philosophical reflection on quantum field theory has tended to focus on how it revises our conception of what a particle is. However, there has been relatively little discussion of the threat to the "reality" of particles posed by the possibility of inequivalent quantizations of a classical field theory, i.e., inequivalent representations of the algebra of observables of the field in terms of operators on a Hilbert space. The threat is that each representation embodies its own distinctive conception of what a particle is, and how a "particle" will respond to a suitably operated detector. Our m…
We quantize the 1-dimensional 3-body problem with harmonic and inverse square pair potential by separating the Schrödinger equation following the classic work of Calogero, but allowing all possible self-adjoint boundary conditions for the angular and radial Hamiltonians. The inverse square coupling constant is taken to be $g=2ν(ν-1)$ with ${1/2} <ν< {3/2}$ and then the angular Hamiltonian is shown to admit a 2-parameter family of inequivalent quantizations compatible with the dihedral $D_6$ symmetry of its potential term $9 ν(ν-1)/\sin^2 3ϕ$. These are parametrized by a matrix $U\in U(2)$ sati…
We discuss dissipative systems in Quantum Field Theory by studying the canonical quantization of the damped harmonic oscillator (dho). We show that the set of states of the system splits into unitarily inequivalent representations of the canonical commutation relations. The irreversibility of time evolution is expressed as tunneling among the unitarily inequivalent representations. Canonical quantization is shown to lead to time dependent SU(1,1) coherent states. We derive the exact action for the dho from the path integral formulation of the quantum Brownian motion developed by Schwinger and …
Quantization of a harmonic oscillator with inverse square potential $V(x)=(m{ω^2}/2){x^2}+g/{x^2}$ on the line $-\infty<x<\infty$ is re-examined. It is shown that, for $0<g<3{\hbar^2}/(8m)$, the system admits a U(2) family of inequivalent quantizations allowing for quantum tunneling through the potenatial barrier at $x=0$. In the family is a distinguished quantization which reduces smoothly to the harmonic oscillator as $g\to 0$, in contrast to the conventional quantization applied to the Calogero model which prohibits the tunneling and has no such limit. The tunneling renders the classical ca…
This paper extends the tools of C*-algebraic strict quantization toward analyzing the classical limits of unbounded quantities in quantum theories. We introduce the approach first in the simple case of finite systems. Then we apply this approach to analyze the classical limits of unbounded quantities in bosonic quantum field theories with particular attention to number operators and Hamiltonians. The methods take classical limits in a representation-independent manner and so allow one to compare quantities appearing in inequivalent Fock space representations.
We investigate two aspects of the elementary example of POVMs on the Euclidean plane, namely their status as quantum observables and their role as quantizers in the integral quantization procedure. The compatibility of POVMs in the ensuing quantum formalism is discussed, and a Naimark dilation is found for the quantum operators. The relation with Toeplitz quantization is explained. A physical situation is discussed, where we describe the linear polarization of the light with the use of Stokes parameters. In particular, the case of sequential measurements in a real bidimensional Hilbert space i…
In this paper, we show that the Laughlin wave function is a Hamiltonian and its associated Berry connection as the Schrödinger equation by transforming the Schrödinger equation into the Kirchhoff equation which describes the evolution of $n$ point vortices in Hydrodynamics. This helps us to view the Berry connection associated with Laughlin wave function or Schrödinger equation is not Hermitian, therefore we propose a self adjoint model Hamiltonian for the fractional quantum Hall effect, from the study of Kirchhoff equation, using superymmetric quantum mechanics whose solutions are complex Her…
In this work, starting from commutation relations between phase-space operators (in "first quantization") we define averaged creation and annihilation operators and show that they satisfy a simple, deformed commutation relation. By extending this relation to the quantized electromagnetic field, we determine the new vacuum state which has a non-zero component in standard occupied states. In addition we are led to non-linear de Broglie relations for photons, which appreciably depart from linearity only in the very-high-energy regime. The nonlinear Compton scattering that follows from these assum…
We summarize our investigation of the extent to which the choice of internal clock influences the dynamics in quantum models of gravity. Firstly, at the classical level, we define an extension to the Hamilton-Jacobi theory of contact transformations, which allows for transformations of time coordinates. Secondly, at the quantum level, we employ the extended theory to separate the quantum effects brought by the free choice of internal clock from those originating from inequivalent quantization maps. Next, we show with two examples two kinds of origin of the clock effect in quantum gravitational…
We implement the so-called Weyl-Heisenberg covariant integral quantization in the case of a classical system constrained by a bounded or semi-bounded geometry. The procedure, which is free of the ordering problem of operators, is illustrated with the basic example of the one-dimensional motion of a free particle in an interval, and yields a fuzzy boundary, a position-dependent mass (PDM), and an extra potential on the quantum level. The consistency of our quantization is discussed by analyzing the semi-classical phase space portrait of the derived quantum dynamics, which is obtained as a regul…

For two decades, the formalism of quantum mechanics has been successfully used to describe human decision processes, situations of heuristic reasoning, and the contextuality of concepts and their combinations. The phenomenon of 'categorical perception' has put us on track to find a possible deeper cause of the presence of this quantum structure in human cognition. Thus, we show that in an archetype of human perception consisting of the reconciliation of a bottom up stimulus with a top down cognitive expectation pattern, there arises the typical warping of categorical perception, where groups o…
