We investigate the algebras satisfied by q-deformed boson and fermion oscillators, in particular the transformations of the algebra from one form to another. Based on a specific algebra proposed in recent literature, we show that the algebra of deformed fermions can be transformed to that of undeformed standard fermions. Furthermore we also show that the algebra of q-deformed fermions can be transformed to that of undeformed standard bosons.
A class of squeezed boson and fermion states is studied with particular emphasis on the nature of entanglement. We first investigate the case of bosons, considering two-mode squeezed states. Then we construct the fermion version to show that such states are maximum entangled, for both bosons and fermions. To achieve these results, we demonstrate some relations involving squeezed boson states. The generalization to the case of fermions is made by using Grassmann variables.
An even number of fermions can behave in a bosonic way. The simplest scenario involves two fermions which can form a single boson. But four fermions can either behave as two bipartite bosons or further assemble into a single four-partite bosonic molecule. In general, for 2N fermions there are many possible arrangements into composite bosons. The question is: what determines which fermionic arrangement is going to be realized in a given situation and can such arrangement be considered truly bosonic? This work aims to find the answer to the above question. We propose an entanglement-based method…
The composite character of two-fermion bosons manifests itself in the interference of many composites as a deviation from the ideal bosonic behavior. A state of many composite bosons can be represented as a superposition of different numbers of perfect bosons and fermions, which allows us to provide the full Hong-Ou-Mandel-like counting statistics of interfering composites. Our theory quantitatively relates the deviation from the ideal bosonic interference pattern to the entanglement of the fermions within a single composite boson.
While single boson entanglement is known to be equivalent to standard non-identical particle entanglement, the use of fermionic entanglement is constrained by a parity superselection rule. Nevertheless we show that within the framework of second quantization, where local modes play the role of qubits, the analogy with ordinary entanglement holds: two entangled spinless fermion modes can be used to teleport a single local fermion mode and to perform standard dense coding. Entanglement concentration and dilution are possible for fermions. We clarify the meaning of our results by discussing the c…
Two bound, entangled fermions form a composite boson, which can be treated as an elementary boson as long as the Pauli principle does not affect the behavior of many such composite bosons. The departure of ideal bosonic behavior is quantified by the normalization ratio of multi-composite-boson states. We derive the two-fermion-states that extremize the normalization ratio for a fixed single-fermion purity P, and establish general tight bounds for this indicator. For very small purities, P<1/N^2, the upper and lower bounds converge, which allows to quantify accurately the departure from perfect…
We investigate pair correlations in trapped fermion and boson gases as a means to probe the quantum states producing the density fluctuations. We point out that "opposite sign correlations" (meaning pair correlations that are positive for fermions and negative for bosons) unambiguously indicate that the quantum many-particle state cannot be "free." In particular, a system of fermions that exhibits positive pair correlations cannot be described by any Slater determinant wavefunction. This insight may help one to interpret results of current experiments on ultracold atomic gases.
In our two preceding papers we studied bipartite composite boson (or quasiboson) systems through their realization in terms of deformed oscillators. Therein, the entanglement characteristics such as the entanglement entropy and purity were found and expressed, for both one-quasiboson and more complex states, through the parameter of deformation. In this work we initiate an analogous study of composite fermions for two major cases: (i) "boson + fermion" composites; (ii) "deformed-boson + fermion" composites. Both the entanglement entropy and purity of composite fermions are dealt with, their de…
We study the problem of particle indistinguishability for the three cases known in nature: identical classical particles, identical bosons and identical fermions. By exploiting the fact that different types of particles are associated with Hilbert space vectors with different symmetries, we establish some relations between the expectation value of several different operators, as the particle number one and the interparticle correlation one, evaluated for states of a pair of identical (a) classical particles, (b) bosons and (c) fermions. We find that the quantum behavior of a pair of identical …
We study the quantum dynamics of conversion of composite bosons into fermionic fragment species with increasing densities of bound fermion pairs using the open quantum system approach. The Hilbert space of $N$-state-function is decomposed into a composite boson subspace and an orthogonal fragment subspace of quasi-free fermions that enlarges as the composite boson constituents deviate from ideal boson commutation relations. The tunneling dynamics of coupled composite boson states in confined systems is examined, and the appearance of exceptional points under experimentally testable conditions …
The experimentally observed loss of superfluidity by introducing fermions to the boson Hubbard system on an optical lattice is explained. We show that the virtual transitions of the bosons to the higher Bloch bands, coupled with the contact boson-fermion interactions of either sign, result in an effective increase of the boson on-site repulsion. If this renormalization of the on-site potential is dominant over the fermion screening of the boson interactions, the Mott insulating lobes of the Bose-Hubbard phase diagram will be enhanced for either sign of the boson-fermion interactions. We discus…
Despite the obvious difference between fermions and bosons in their physical properties and statistical distributions, but we have to ask the following question. What is the form of statistical distribution for a system of quantum particles where any of them can be a fermion with probability [P] and can be a boson with probability [1-P]?. In this paper this question is solved
We explore the conditions under which identical particles in unitary linear networks behave as the other species, i.e. bosons as fermions and fermions as bosons. It is found that the Boson-Sampling computer of Aaronson & Arkhipov can be implemented in an interference experiment with non-interacting fermions in an appropriately entangled state. Moreover, a scheme is proposed which simulates the scattershot version of the Boson-Sampling computer by preparing, on the fly, the required entangled state of fermions from an unentangled one.
We consider atomic Bose-Fermi mixtures in optical lattices and study the superfluidity of fermionic atoms due to s-wave pairing induced by boson-fermion interactions. We prove that the induced fermion-fermion coupling is always {\it attractive} if the boson-boson on site interaction is repulsive, and predict the existence of an enhanced BEC--BCS crossover as the strength of the lattice potential is varied. We show that for direct on-site fermion-fermion {\it repulsion}, the induced attraction can give rise to superfluidity via s-wave pairing, at striking variance with the case of pure systems …
We consider a homogeneous mixture of bosons and polarized fermions. We find that long-range and attractive fermion-mediated interactions between bosons have dramatic effects on the properties of the bosons. We construct the phase diagram spanned by boson-fermion mass ratio and boson-fermion scattering parameter. It consists of stable region of mixing and unstable region toward phase separation. In stable mixing phase, the collective long-wavelength excitations can either be well-behaved with infinite lifetime or be finite in lifetime suffered from the Landau damping. We examine the effects of …
The quon algebra describes particles, ``quons,'' that are neither fermions nor bosons using a label q that parametrizes a smooth interpolation between bosons (q = +1) and fermions (q = -1). We derive ``conservation of statistics'' relations for quons in relativistic theories, and show that in relativistic theories quons must be either bosons or fermions.
Using an imaginary-time path integral approach, we develop the perturbation theory suited to the boson Hubbard model, and apply it to calculate the effects of a dilute gas of spin-polarized fermions weakly interacting with the bosons. The full theory captures both the static and the dynamic effects of the fermions on the generic superfluid-insulator phase diagram. We find that, in a homogenous system described by a single-band boson Hubbard Hamiltonian, the intrinsic perturbative effect of the fermions is to generically suppress the insulating lobes and to enhance the superfluid phase.
We study the thermostatistics of q-deformed bosons and fermions obeying the symmetric algebra and show that it can be built on the formalism of q-calculus. The entire structure of thermodynamics is preserved if ordinary derivatives are replaced by an appropriate Jackson derivative. In this framework, we derive the most important thermodynamic functions describing the q-boson and q-fermion ideal gases in the thermodynamic limit. We also investigate the semi-classical limit and the low temperature regime and demonstrate that the nature of the q-deformation gives rise to pure quantum statistical …
The quon algebra describes particles, ``quons,'' that are neither fermions nor bosons, using a label $q$ that parametrizes a smooth interpolation between bosons ($q = 1$) and fermions ($q = -1$). Understanding the relation of quons on the one side and bosons or fermions on the other can shed light on the different properties of these two kinds of operators and the statistics which they carry. In particular, local bilinear observables can be constructed from bosons and fermions, but not from quons. In this paper we construct bosons and fermions from quon operators. For bosons, our construction …
We study boson-fermion dualities in one-dimensional many-body problems of identical particles interacting only through two-body contacts. By using the path-integral formalism as well as the configuration-space approach to indistinguishable particles, we find a generalization of the boson-fermion duality between the Lieb-Liniger model and the Cheon-Shigehara model. We present an explicit construction of $n$-boson and $n$-fermion models which are dual to each other and characterized by $n-1$ distinct (coordinate-dependent) coupling constants. These models enjoy the spectral equivalence, the boso…
In this article we develop a general method to numerically calculate physical properties for a system of anyons with path integral molecular dynamics. We provide a unified method to calculate the thermodynamics of identical bosons, fermions and anyons. Our method is tested and applied to systems of anyons, bosons and fermions in a two-dimensional harmonic trap. We also consider a method to calculate the energy for fermions as an application of the path integral molecular dynamics to simulate the anyon model.
Operators, refered to as k-fermion operators, that interpolate between boson and fermion operators are introduced through the consideration of two noncommuting quon algebras. The deformation parameters for these quon algebras are roots of unity connected to an integer k. The case k=2 corresponds to fermions and the limiting case k going to infinity to bosons. Generalized coherent states and supercoherent states are investigated. The Dirac quantum phase operator and the Fairlie-Fletcher-Zachos algebra are also considered.
For a system of spinless one-dimensional fermions, the non-vanishing short-range limit of two-body interaction is shown to induce the wave-function discontinuity. We prove the equivalence of this fermionic system and the bosonic particle system with two-body $δ$-function interaction with the reversed role of strong and weak couplings. The Hamiltonians describing the energy nonconservation in boson and fermion multimode fields under quantum interference have been derived. We show that violation of the energy conservation is accompanied by the nonconservation of momentum, number of particles and field charge. The phenomena could be observed in Young's double-slit subwavelength (nanometer-scale) setup.
