A new kind of deformed calculus (the D-deformed calculus) that takes place in fractional-dimensional spaces is presented. The D-deformed calculus is shown to be an appropriate tool for treating fractional-dimensional systems in a simple way and quite analogous to their corresponding one-dimensional partners. Two simple systems, the free particle and the harmonic oscillator in fractional- dimensional spaces are reconsidered into the framework of the D-deformed quantum mechanics. Confined states in a D-deformed quantum well are studied. D-deformed coherent states are also found.
We calculate the time taken by a wave packet to travel through a classically forbidden region of space in space fractional quantum mechanics. We obtain the close form expression of tunneling time from a rectangular barrier by stationary phase method. We show that tunneling time depends upon the width $b$ of the barrier for $b \to \infty$ and therefore Hartman effect doesn't exist in space fractional quantum mechanics. Interestingly we found that the tunneling time monotonically reduces with increasing $b$. The tunneling time is smaller in space fractional quantum mechanics as compared to the c…
We show that it is possible to obtain numerical solutions to quantum mechanical problems involving a fractional Laplacian, using a collocation approach based on Little Sinc Functions (LSF), which discretizes the Schrödinger equation on a uniform grid. The different boundary conditions are naturally implemented using sets of functions with the appropriate behavior. Good convergence properties are observed. A comparison with results based on a WKB analysis is performed.
The fractional operators together with exponential quantum in coordinate and momentum space corresponding to the power of observables are introduced. Based on an exponential relation between energy and momentum, the fractional Schrödinger equations for the free particle and the one in potential fields in heterogeneous complex media are found. The fractional equation of motion and the fractional virial theorem for anomalous quantum mechanics are then developed. Applying the fractional virial theorem, we derive an anomalous hydrogen atom whose transition energy values are much higher than that o…
We discuss the deformation quantization approach for the teaching of quantum mechanics. This approach has certain conceptual advantages which make its consideration worthwhile. In particular, it sheds new light on the relation between classical and quantum mechanics. We demionstrate how it can be used to solve specific problems and clarify its relation to conventional quantization and path integral techniques. We also discuss its recent applications in relativistic quantum field theory.

Applications of fractional quantum mechanics cover dynamics of a free particle, new representation for a free particle quantum mechanical kernel, infinite potential well, bound state in δ-potential well, linear potential, fractional Bohr atom and fractional oscilla…
We calculate the time taken by a wave packet to travel through a classically forbidden locally periodic rectangular potential in space fractional quantum mechanics (SFQM). We obtain the close form expression of tunneling time from such a potential by stationary phase method. We show that tunneling time depends upon the width $b$ of the single barrier and separation $L$ between the barriers in the limit $b \to \infty$ and therefore generalized Hartman effect doesn't exist in SFQM. We observe that in SFQM, the tunneling time for large $b$ in the case of locally periodic potential is smaller than…
We present a new approach to obtaining the scaling behavior of the entanglement entropy in fractional quantum Hall states from finite-size wavefunctions. By employing the torus geometry and the fact that the torus aspect ratio can be readily varied, we can extract the entanglement entropy of a spatial block as a continuous function of the block boundary. This approach allows us to extract the topological entanglement entropy with an accuracy superior to what is possible on the spherical or disc geometry, where no natural continuously variable parameter is available. Other than the topological …
A path integral approach to quantum physics has been developed. Fractional path integrals over the paths of the Lévy flights are defined. It is shown that if the fractality of the Brownian trajectories leads to standard quantum and statistical mechanics, then the fractality of the Lévy paths leads to fractional quantum mechanics and fractional statistical mechanics. The fractional quantum and statistical mechanics have been developed via our fractional path integral approach. A fractional generalization of the Schrödinger equation has been found. A relationship between the energy and the momen…
In this comment, we point out some shortcomings in two papers "Fractional quantum mechanics" [Phys. Rev. E 62, 3135 (2000)] and "Fractional Schroedinger equation" [Phys. Rev. E 66, 056108 (2002)]. We prove that the fractional uncertainty relation does not hold generally. The probability continuity equation in fractional quantum mechanics has a missing source term, which leads to particle teleportation, i.e., a particle can teleport from one place to another. Since the relativistic kinetic energy can be viewed as an approximate realization of the fractional kinetic energy, the particle teleport…
Integral form of the space-time-fractional Schrödinger equation for the scattering problem in the fractional quantum mechanics is studied in this paper. We define the fractional Green's function for the space-time fractional Schrodinger equation and express it in terms of Fox's H-function and in a computable series form. The asymptotic formula of the Green's function for large argument is also obtained, and applied to study the fractional quantum scattering problem. We get the approximate scattering wave function with correction of every order.
We explore the features of non-relativistic quantum tunneling in space fractional quantum mechanics through a family of Cantor potentials. We consider two types of potentials: general Cantor and general Smith-Volterra-Cantor potential. The Cantor potential is an example of fractal potential while the Smith-Volterra-Cantor potential doesn't belong to the category of a fractal system. The present study brings for the first time, the study of quantum tunneling through fractal potential in fractional quantum mechanics. We report several new features of scattering in the domain of space fractional …
The many-body space fractional quantum system is studied using the density matrix method. We give the new results of the Thomas-Fermi model, and obtain the quantum pressure of the free electron gas. We also show the validity of the Hohenberg-Kohn theory in the space fractional quantum mechanics and generalize the density functional theory to the fractional quantum mechanics.
Fourier and fractional-Fourier transformations are widely used in theoretical physics. In this paper we make quantum perspectives and generalization for the fractional Fourier transformation (FrFT). By virtue of quantum mechanical representation transformation and the method of integration within normal ordered product (IWOP) of operators, we find the key point for composing FrFT, and reveal the structure of FrFT. Following this procedure, a full family of generalized fractional transformations are discovered with the usual FrFT as one special case. The eigen-functions of arbitrary GFrT are de…
We consider deformations of quantum mechanical operators by using the novel construction of warped convolutions. The deformation enables us to obtain several quantum mechanical effects where electromagnetic and gravitomagnetic fields play a role. Furthermore, a quantum plane can be defined by using the deformation techniques. This in turn gives an experimentally verifiable effect.
This paper addresses issues surrounding the concept of fractional quantum mechanics, related to lights propagation in inhomogeneous nonlinear media, specifically restricted to a so called gravitational optics. Besides Schrödinger Newton equation, we have also concerned with linear and nonlinear Airy beam accelerations in flat and curved spaces and fractal photonics, related to nonlinear Schrödinger equation, where impact of the fractional Laplacian is discussed. Another important feature of the gravitational optics' implementation is its geometry with the paraxial approximation, when quantum m…
The model of a planar atom which possesses a non-vanishing electric dipole moment interacting with magnetic fields in a specific setting is studied. Energy spectra of this model and its reduced model, which is the limit of cooling down the atom to the negligible kinetic energy, are solved exactly. We show that %similar with the Chern-Simons quantum mechanics, energy spectra of the reduced model can not be obtained directly from the full ones by taking the same limit. In order to match them, we must regularize energy spectra of the full model when the limit of the negligible kinetic energy is t…
We study the tunneling through delta and double delta potentials in fractional quantum mechanics. After solving the fractional Schrödinger equation for these potentials, we calculate the corresponding reflection and transmission coefficients. These coefficients have a very interesting behaviour. In particular, we can have zero energy tunneling when the order of the Riesz fractional derivative is different from 2. For both potentials, the zero energy limit of the transmission coefficient is given by $\mathcal{T}_0 = \cos^2{π/α}$, where $α$ is the order of the derivative ($1 < α\leq 2$).
The physical relevance of the fractional time derivative in quantum mechanics is discussed. It is shown that the introduction of the fractional time Scrödinger equation (FTSE) in quantum mechanics by analogy with the fractional diffusion $\frac{\prt}{\prt t}\rightarrow \frac{\prt^α}{\prt t^α}$ can lead to an essential deficiency in the quantum mechanical description, and needs special care. To shed light on this situation, a quantum comb model is introduced. It is shown that for $α=1/2$, the FTSE is a particular case of the quantum comb model. This \textit{exact} example shows that the FTSE is…
We introduce and analyze a novel mean-field model for polariton condensates with velocity dependence of the effective polariton mass due the photon and exciton components. The effective mass depends on the in-plane wave vector k, which at the inflection point of the lower polariton energy branch becomes infinite and above negative. The polariton condensate modes of the new mean-field theory are now sensitive to mass variations and for certain points of the energy dispersion the polariton condensate mode represents fractional quantum mechanics. The impact of the generalized kinetic energy term …
This paper investigates whether the framework of fractional quantum mechanics can broaden our perspective of black hole thermodynamics. Concretely, we employ a {\it space-fractional} derivative \cite{Rie} as our main tool. Moreover, we restrict our analysis to the case of a Schwarzschild configuration. From a subsequently modified Wheeler-DeWitt equation, we retrieve the corresponding expressions for specific observables. Namely, the black hole mass spectrum, $M$, its temperature $T$, and entropy, $S$. We find that these bear consequential alterations conveyed through a fractional parameter, $…
Fractional calculus is a couple of centuries old, but its development has been less embraced and it was only within the last century that a program of applications for physics started. Regarding quantum physics, it has been only in the previous decade or so that the corresponding literature resulted in a set of defying papers. In such a context, this manuscript constitutes a cordial invitation, whose purpose is simply to suggest, mostly through a heuristic and unpretentious presentation, the extension of fractional quantum mechanics to cosmological settings. Being more specific, we start by ou…
Two complementary approaches of N = 2 fractional supersymmetric quantum mechanics of order k are studied in this article. The first one, based on a generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra W(k) (that comprizes the affine quantum algebra Uq(sl(2)) with q to k = 1 as a special case), apparently contains solely one bosonic degree of freedom. The second one uses generalized bosonic and k-fermionic degrees of freedom. As an illustration, a particular emphasis is put on the fractional supersymmetric oscillator of order k.
Fractional supersymmetric quantum mechanics of order $λ$ is realized in terms of the generators of a generalized deformed oscillator algebra and a Z$_λ$-grading structure is imposed on the Fock space of the latter. This realization is shown to be fully reducible with the irreducible components providing $λ$ sets of minimally bosonized operators corresponding to both unbroken and broken cases. It also furnishes some examples of Z$_λ$-graded uniform topological symmetry of type (1, 1, ..., 1) with topological invariants generalizing the Witten index.
The Hamiltonian for a fractional supersymmetric oscillator is derived from three approaches. The first one is based on a decomposition in which a Q-uon gives rise to an ordinary boson and a k-fermion (a k-fermion being an object interpolating between boson and fermion). The second one starts from a generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. Finally, the third one relies on the quantum algebra Uq(sl(2)) where q is a root of unity.
We investigate the sine-square deformation (SSD) of free fermions in one-dimensional continuous space. On the basis of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, we prove the correspondence between the many-body ground state of the system with SSD and that of the uniform system with periodic boundary conditions. We also discuss the connection between the SSD in the continuous space and its lattice version, where the geometric correction due to the real-space deformation plays an important role in relating the eigenstates of the lattice SSD with those of the continuous SSD.
We study deformations of the quantum conformal mechanics of De Alfaro-Fubini-Furlan with rational additional potential term generated by applying the generalized Darboux-Crum-Krein-Adler transformations to the quantum harmonic oscillator and by using the method of dual schemes and mirror diagrams. In this way we obtain infinite families of isospectral and non-isospectral deformations of the conformal mechanics model with special values of the coupling constant $g=m(m+1)$, $m\in {\mathbb N}$, in the inverse square potential term, and for each completely isospectral or gapped deformation given b…
The occurrence of fractional revival in quantum spin chains is examined. Analytic models where this phenomenon can be exhibited in exact solutions are provided. It is explained that spin chains with fractional revival can be obtained by isospectral deformations of spin chains with perfect state transfer.
It is shown how to derive fractional supersymmetric quantum mechanics of order k as a superposition of k-1 copies of ordinary supersymmetric quantum mechanics.
We investigate modifications of quantum mechanics (QM) that replace the unitary group in a finite dimensional Hilbert space with a finite group and determine the minimal sequence of subgroups necessary to approximate QM arbitrarily closely for general choices of Hamiltonian. This mathematical study reveals novel insights about 't Hooft's Ontological Quantum Mechanics, and the derivation of statistical mechanics from quantum mechanics. We show that Kornyak's proposal to understand QM as classical dynamics on a Hilbert space of one dimension higher than that describing the universe, supplemented…
The paper develop the alternative formulation of quantum mechanics known as the phase space quantum mechanics or deformation quantization. It is shown that the quantization naturally arises as an appropriate deformation of the classical Hamiltonian mechanics. More precisely, the deformation of the point-wise product of observables to an appropriate noncommutative $\star$-product and the deformation of the Poisson bracket to an appropriate Lie bracket is the key element in introducing the quantization of classical Hamiltonian systems. The considered class of deformations and the corresponding $…
We formulate quantum mechanics in spacetimes with real-order fractional geometry and more general factorizable measures. In spacetimes where coordinates and momenta span the whole real line, Heisenberg's principle is proven and the wave-functions minimizing the uncertainty are found. In spite of the fact that ordinary time and spatial translations are broken and the dynamics is not unitary, the theory is in one-to-one correspondence with a unitary one, thus allowing us to employ standard tools of analysis. These features are illustrated in the examples of the free particle and the harmonic osc…
The spectral singularity (SS) and coherent perfect absorption (CPA) have been extensively studied over the last one and half decade for different non-Hermitian potentials in non-Hermitian standard quantum mechanics (SQM) governed by Schrodinger equation. In the present work we explore these scattering features in the domain of non-Hermitian space fractional quantum mechanics (SFQM) governed by fractional Schrodinger equation which is characterized by Levy index $α$ ($ 1< α\leq 2$). We observe that non-Hermitian SFQM systems have more flexibility for SS and CPA and display some new features of …
We discuss dual time evolution scenarios which, albeit running according to the same real time clock, in each considered case may be mapped among each other by means of an analytic continuation in time. This dynamical duality is a generic feature of diffusion-type processes. Technically that involves a familiar transformation from a non-Hermitian Fokker-Planck operator to the Hermitian operator (e.g. Schroedinger Hamiltonian), whose negative is known to generate a dynamical semigroup. Under suitable restrictions upon the generator, the semigroup admits an analytic continuation in time and ulti…
Second quantization of a classical nonrelativistic one-particle system as a deformation quantization of the Schrodinger spinless field is considered. Under the assumption that the phase space of the Schrodinger field is $C^{\infty}$, both, the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal and Berezin deformation quantizations are discussed and compared. Then the geometric quantum mechanics is also quantized using the Berezin method under the assumption that the phase space is $CP^{\infty}$ endowed with the Fubini-Study Kahlerian metric. Finally, the Wigner function for an arbitrary particle state and its evolution equati…
This paper constitutes a review on N=2 fractional supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics of order k. The presentation is based on the introduction of a generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra W_k. It is shown how a general Hamiltonian can be associated with the algebra W_k. This general Hamiltonian covers various supersymmetrical versions of dynamical systems (Morse system, Poschl-Teller system, fractional supersymmetric oscillator of order k, etc.). The case of ordinary supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics corresponds to k=2. A connection between fractional supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics and ordinary sup…
$C_λ$-extended oscillator algebras generalizing the Calogero-Vasiliev algebra, where $C_λ$ is the cyclic group of order $λ$, are studied both from mathematical and applied viewpoints. Casimir operators of the algebras are obtained, and used to provide a complete classification of their unitary irreducible representations under the assumption that the number operator spectrum is nondegenerate. Deformed algebras admitting Casimir operators analogous to those of their undeformed counterparts are looked for, yielding three new algebraic structures. One of them includes the Brzeziński {\em et al.} …
The Bose distribution for a gas of nonrelativistic free bosons is derived in the framework of $qp$-deformed second quantization. Some thermodynamical functions for such a system in D dimensions are derived. Bose-Einstein condensation is discussed in terms of the parameters q and p as well as a parameter $ν_0'$ which characterizes the representation space of the oscillator algebra.
The construction of exactly-solvable models has recently been advanced by considering integrable $T\bar{T}$ deformations and related Hamiltonian deformations in quantum mechanics. We introduce a broader class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian deformations in a nonrelativistic setting, to account for the description of a large class of open quantum systems, which includes, e.g., arbitrary Markovian evolutions conditioned to the absence of quantum jumps. We relate the time evolution operator and the time-evolving density matrix in the undeformed and deformed theories in terms of integral transforms w…
We examine certain nonassociative deformations of quantum mechanics and gravity in three dimensions related to the dynamics of electrons in uniform distributions of magnetic charge. We describe a quantitative framework for nonassociative quantum mechanics in this setting, which exhibits new effects compared to ordinary quantum mechanics with sourceless magnetic fields, and the extent to which these theoretical consequences may be experimentally testable. We relate this theory to noncommutative Jordanian quantum mechanics, and show that its underlying algebra can be obtained as a contraction of…
