We investigate modifications of quantum mechanics (QM) that replace the unitary group in a finite dimensional Hilbert space with a finite group and determine the minimal sequence of subgroups necessary to approximate QM arbitrarily closely for general choices of Hamiltonian. This mathematical study reveals novel insights about 't Hooft's Ontological Quantum Mechanics, and the derivation of statistical mechanics from quantum mechanics. We show that Kornyak's proposal to understand QM as classical dynamics on a Hilbert space of one dimension higher than that describing the universe, supplemented by a choice of the value of a naturally conserved quantum operator in that classical evolution can probably be a model of the world we observe.
We consider deformations of quantum mechanical operators by using the novel construction of warped convolutions. The deformation enables us to obtain several quantum mechanical effects where electromagnetic and gravitomagnetic fields play a role. Furthermore, a quantum plane can be defined by using the deformation techniques. This in turn gives an experimentally verifiable effect.
We study the $T\bar T$ deformation on multiquantum mechanical systems. By introducing dynamical coordinate transformation, we reformulate the one-dimensional $T\bar T$ deformation of generic quantum mechanical systems, which is consistent with the previous proposal in the literature. We further study the thermo-field-double state under the $T\bar T$ deformation on these systems, which include the conformal quantum mechanical system, the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model, and the model satisfying eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. We find common regenesis phenomena in which the signal injected into on…
Supersymmetric and parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics are now recognized as two further parts of quantum mechanics containing a lot of new informations enlightening (solvable) physical applications. Both contents are here analysed in connection with generalized quantum deformations. In fact, the parasupersymmetric context is visited when the order of paraquantization p is limited to the first nontrivial value p = 2.
We revisit conformal quantum mechanics (CQM) from the perspective of sine-square deformation (SSD) and the entanglement Hamiltonian. The operators that correspond to SSD and the entanglement Hamiltonian are identified. Thus, the nature of SSD and entanglement can be discussed in a much simpler CQM setting than higher-dimensional field theories.
Deformations of the canonical commutation relations lead to non-Hermitian momentum and position operators and therefore almost inevitably to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We demonstrate that such type of deformed quantum mechanical systems may be treated in a similar framework as quasi/pseudo and/or PT-symmetric systems, which have recently attracted much attention. For a newly proposed deformation of exponential type we compute the minimal uncertainty and minimal length, which are essential in almost all approaches to quantum gravity.
We investigate the sine-square deformation (SSD) of free fermions in one-dimensional continuous space. On the basis of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, we prove the correspondence between the many-body ground state of the system with SSD and that of the uniform system with periodic boundary conditions. We also discuss the connection between the SSD in the continuous space and its lattice version, where the geometric correction due to the real-space deformation plays an important role in relating the eigenstates of the lattice SSD with those of the continuous SSD.
We study deformations of the quantum conformal mechanics of De Alfaro-Fubini-Furlan with rational additional potential term generated by applying the generalized Darboux-Crum-Krein-Adler transformations to the quantum harmonic oscillator and by using the method of dual schemes and mirror diagrams. In this way we obtain infinite families of isospectral and non-isospectral deformations of the conformal mechanics model with special values of the coupling constant $g=m(m+1)$, $m\in {\mathbb N}$, in the inverse square potential term, and for each completely isospectral or gapped deformation given b…
We study Abelian generalized deformations of the usual product of polynomials introduced in hep-th/9602016. We construct an explicit example for the case of $su/2$ which provides a tentative of a quantum-mechanical description of Nambu Mechanics on $R^3$. By introducing the notions of strong and weak triviality of generalized deformations, we show that the Zariski product is never trivial in either sense, while the example constructed here in a quantum-mechanical context is only strongly non-trivial.
Motivated by $T\bar T$, we introduce and study a wide class of solvable deformations of quantum-mechanical theories. These deformations map the Hamiltonian to a function of itself. We solve these theories by computing all finite-temperature correlation functions of the deformed theory in terms of the correlators of the undeformed theory. Applications to AdS/CFT, SYK, and the Schwarzian theory are considered. We write down the deformed Schwarzian action for an arbitrary Hamiltonian deformation and find that the maximal Lyapunov exponent is unchanged.
We present briefly the deformation philosophy and indicate, with references, how it was applied to the quantization of Nambu mechanics and to particle physics in anti De Sitter space.
In this paper, we continue the study of $T\bar{T}$ deformation in $d=1$ quantum mechanical systems and propose possible analogues of $J\bar{T}$ deformation and deformation by a general linear combination of $T\bar{T}$ and $J\bar{T}$ in quantum mechanics. We construct flow equations for the partition functions of the deformed theory, the solutions to which yields the deformed partition functions as integral of the undeformed partition function weighted by some kernels. The kernel formula turns out to be very useful in studying the deformed two-point functions and analyzing the thermodynamics of…
Quantum Mechanics of the Early Universe is considered as deformation of a well-known Quantum Mechanics. Similar to previous works of the author, the principal approach is based on deformation of the density matrix with concurrent development of the wave function deformation in the respective Schr{ö}dinger picture, the associated deformation parameter being interpreted as a new small parameter. It is demonstrated that the existence of black holes in the suggested approach in the end twice causes nonunitary transitions resulting in the unitarity. In parallel this problem is considered in other t…
Wigner's quasi-probability distribution function in phase-space is a special (Weyl) representation of the density matrix. It has been useful in describing quantum transport in quantum optics; nuclear physics; decoherence (eg, quantum computing); quantum chaos; "Welcher Weg" discussions; semiclassical limits. It is also of importance in signal processing. Nevertheless, a remarkable aspect of its internal logic, pioneered by Moyal, has only emerged in the last quarter-century: It furnishes a third, alternative, formulation of Quantum Mechanics, independent of the conventional Hilbert Space, or P…
We define a manifestly supersymmetric version of the $T \overline{T}$ deformation appropriate for a class of $(0+1)$-dimensional theories with $\mathcal{N} = 1$ or $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetry, including one presentation of the super-Schwarzian theory which is dual to JT supergravity. These deformations are written in terms of Noether currents associated with translations in superspace, so we refer to them collectively as $f(\mathcal{Q})$ deformations. We provide evidence that the $f(\mathcal{Q})$ deformations of $\mathcal{N} = 1$ and $\mathcal{N} = 2$ theories are on-shell equivalent to th…
In this paper, we will propose the most general form of the deformation of Heisenberg algebra motivated by the generalized uncertainty principle. This deformation of the Heisenberg algebra will deform all quantum mechanical systems. The form of the generalized uncertainty principle used to motivate these results will be motivated by space fractional quantum mechanics and non-locality in quantum mechanical systems. We also analyse a specific limit of this generalized deformation for one dimensional system, and in that limit, a nonlocal deformation of the momentum operator generates a local defo…
We analyze the polymer representation of quantum mechanics within the deformation quantization formalism. In particular, we construct the Wigner function and the star-product for the polymer representation as a distributional limit of the Schrödinger representation for the Weyl algebra in a Gaussian weighted measure, and we observe that the quasi-probability distribution limit of this Schrödinger representation agrees with the Wigner function for Loop Quantum Cosmology. Further, the introduced polymer star-product fulfills Bohr's correspondence principle even though not all the operators are w…
Second quantization of a classical nonrelativistic one-particle system as a deformation quantization of the Schrodinger spinless field is considered. Under the assumption that the phase space of the Schrodinger field is $C^{\infty}$, both, the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal and Berezin deformation quantizations are discussed and compared. Then the geometric quantum mechanics is also quantized using the Berezin method under the assumption that the phase space is $CP^{\infty}$ endowed with the Fubini-Study Kahlerian metric. Finally, the Wigner function for an arbitrary particle state and its evolution equati…
The twisting function describing a nonstandard (super-Jordanian) quantum deformation of $osp(1|2)$ is given in explicite closed form. The quantum coproducts and universal R-matrix are presented. The non-uniqueness of the twisting function as well as two real forms of the deformed $osp(1|2)$ superalgebras are considered. One real quantum $osp(1|2)$ superalgebra is interpreted as describing the $κ$-deformation of D=1, N=1 superconformal algebra, which can be applied as a symmetry algebra of N=1 superconformal mechanics.
We start investigating the extension of the Horizon Quantum Mechanics to the case of spheroidal sources. We first study the location of trapping surfaces in space-times resulting from an axial deformation of static isotropic systems, and show that the Misner-Sharp mass evaluated on the corresponding undeformed spherically symmetric space provides the correct gravitational radius to locate the horizon. We finally propose a way to determine the deformation parameter in the quantum theory.
Non-commutative Quantum Mechanics in 3D is investigated in the framework of the abelian Drinfeld twist which deforms a given Hopf algebra while preserving its Hopf algebra structure. Composite operators (of coordinates and momenta) entering the Hamiltonian have to be reinterpreted as primitive elements of a dynamical Lie algebra which could be either finite (for the harmonic oscillator) or infinite (in the general case). The deformed brackets of the deformed angular momenta close the so(3) algebra. On the other hand, undeformed rotationally invariant operators can become, under deformation, an…
Affine transformations (dilatations and translations) are used to define a deformation of one-dimensional $N=2$ supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Resulting physical systems do not have conserved charges and degeneracies in the spectra. Instead, superpartner Hamiltonians are $q$-isospectral, i.e. the spectrum of one can be obtained from another (with possible exception of the lowest level) by $q^2$-factor scaling. This construction allows easily to rederive a special self-similar potential found by Shabat and to show that for the latter a $q$-deformed harmonic oscillator algebra of Biedenharn a…
Quantum field theory in zero spatial dimensions has a rich infrared landscape and a universal ultraviolet, inverting the usual Wilsonian paradigm. For holographic theories this implies a rich landscape of asymptotically AdS$_2$ geometries. Isolating the interiors of these spacetimes suggests a study of the analog of the $T\overline{T}$ deformation in quantum mechanics, which we pursue here. An equivalent description of this deformation in terms of coupling to worldline gravity is proposed, and applications to quantum mechanical systems - including the Schwarzian theory - are studied.
We review the main features of the Weyl-Wigner formulation of noncommutative quantum mechanics. In particular, we present a $\star$-product and a Moyal bracket suitable for this theory as well as the concept of noncommutative Wigner function. The properties of these quasi-distributions are discussed as well as their relation to the sets of ordinary Wigner functions and positive Liouville probability densities. Based on these notions we propose criteria for assessing whether a commutative regime has emerged in the realm of noncommutative quantum mechanics. To induce this noncommutative-commutat…
The construction of exactly-solvable models has recently been advanced by considering integrable $T\bar{T}$ deformations and related Hamiltonian deformations in quantum mechanics. We introduce a broader class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian deformations in a nonrelativistic setting, to account for the description of a large class of open quantum systems, which includes, e.g., arbitrary Markovian evolutions conditioned to the absence of quantum jumps. We relate the time evolution operator and the time-evolving density matrix in the undeformed and deformed theories in terms of integral transforms w…
We examine certain nonassociative deformations of quantum mechanics and gravity in three dimensions related to the dynamics of electrons in uniform distributions of magnetic charge. We describe a quantitative framework for nonassociative quantum mechanics in this setting, which exhibits new effects compared to ordinary quantum mechanics with sourceless magnetic fields, and the extent to which these theoretical consequences may be experimentally testable. We relate this theory to noncommutative Jordanian quantum mechanics, and show that its underlying algebra can be obtained as a contraction of…
Starting from deformation quantization (star-products), the quantization problem of Nambu Mechanics is investigated. After considering some impossibilities and pushing some analogies with field quantization, a solution to the quantization problem is presented in the novel approach of Zariski quantization of fields (observables, functions, in this case polynomials). This quantization is based on the factorization over ${\Bbb R}$ of polynomials in several real variables. We quantize the infinite-dimensional algebra of fields generated by the polynomials by defining a deformation of this algebra …
We study the action of time dependent canonical and coordinate transformations in phase space quantum mechanics. We extend the covariant formulation of the theory by providing a formalism that is fully invariant under both standard and time dependent coordinate transformations. This result considerably enlarges the set of possible phase space representations of quantum mechanics and makes it possible to construct a causal representation for the distributional sector of Wigner quantum mechanics.
An approach to study a generalization of the classical-quantum transition for general systems is proposed. In order to develop the idea, a deformation of the ladder operators algebra is proposed that contains a realization of the quantum group $SU(2)_q$ as a particular case. In this deformation Planck's constant becomes an operator whose eigenvalues approach $\hbar $ for small values of $n$ (the eigenvalue of the number operator), and zero for large values of $n$ (the system is classicalized).
In this work we use the deformation procedure and explore the route to obtain distinct field theory models that present similar stability potentials. Starting from systems that interact polynomially or hyperbolically, we use a deformation function which allows to construct other theories having the feature of giving rise to the same stability potentials. Such deformation function leads to smooth potentials according to a specific choice of a single parameter. Among the results, one shows that for models with asymmetric topological sectors, the appearance of a new stability potential is also po…
The N-extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics is deformed via an abelian twist which preserves the super-Hopf algebra structure of its Universal Enveloping Superalgebra. Two constructions are possible. For even N one can identify the 1D N-extended superalgebra with the fermionic Heisenberg algebra. Alternatively, supersymmetry generators can be realized as operators belonging to the Universal Enveloping Superalgebra of one bosonic and several fermionic oscillators. The deformed system is described in terms of twisted operators satisfying twist-deformed (anti)commutators. The main differences…
The conventional Hamiltonian $H= p^2+ V_N(x)$, where the potential $V_N(x)$ is a polynomial of degree $N$, has been studied intensively since the birth of quantum mechanics. In some cases, its spectrum can be determined by combining the WKB method with resummation techniques. In this paper we point out that the deformed Hamiltonian $H=2 \cosh(p)+ V_N(x)$ is exactly solvable for any potential: a conjectural exact quantization condition, involving well-defined functions, can be written down in closed form, and determines the spectrum of bound states and resonances. In particular, no resummation …
Phase Space is the framework best suited for quantizing superintegrable systems, naturally preserving the symmetry algebras of the respective hamiltonian invariants. The power and simplicity of the method is fully illustrated through new applications to nonlinear sigma models, specifically for de Sitter N-spheres and Chiral Models, where the symmetric quantum hamiltonians amount to compact and elegant expressions. Additional power and elegance is provided by the use of Nambu Brackets to incorporate the extra invariants of superintegrable models. Some new classical results are given for these b…
Several quantum gravity and string theory thought experiments indicate that the Heisenberg uncertainty relations get modified at the Planck scale so that a minimal length do arises. This modification may imply a modification of the canonical commutation relations and hence quantum mechanics at the Planck scale. The corresponding modification of classical mechanics is usually considered by replacing modified quantum commutators by Poisson brackets suitably modified in such a way that they retain their main properties (antisymmetry, linearity, Leibniz rule and Jacobi identity). We indicate that …
We generalize the formulation of non-commutative quantum mechanics to three dimensional non-commutative space. Particular attention is paid to the identification of the quantum Hilbert space in which the physical states of the system are to be represented, the construction of the representation of the rotation group on this space, the deformation of the Leibnitz rule accompanying this representation and the implied necessity of deforming the co-product to restore the rotation symmetry automorphism. This also implies the breaking of rotational invariance on the level of the Schroedinger action …
A consistent generalization of statistical mechanics is obtained by applying the maximum entropy principle to a trace-form entropy and by requiring that physically motivated mathematical properties are preserved. The emerging differential-functional equation yields a two-parameter class of generalized logarithms, from which entropies and power-law distributions follow: these distributions could be relevant in many anomalous systems. Within the specified range of parameters, these entropies possess positivity, continuity, symmetry, expansibility, decisivity, maximality, concavity, and are Lesch…
We analyse the symmetries underlying nonassociative deformations of geometry in non-geometric R-flux compactifications which arise via T-duality from closed strings with constant geometric fluxes. Starting from the non-abelian Lie algebra of translations and Bopp shifts in phase space, together with a suitable cochain twist, we construct the quasi-Hopf algebra of symmetries that deforms the algebra of functions and the exterior differential calculus in the phase space description of nonassociative R-space. In this setting nonassociativity is characterised by the associator 3-cocycle which cont…
A superposition of bosons and generalized deformed parafermions corresponding to an arbitrary paraquantization order $p$ is considered to provide deformations of parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics. New families of parasupersymmetric Hamiltonians are constructed in connection with two examples of su(2) nonlinear deformations such as introduced by Polychronakos and Ro\v cek.
Phase Space is the framework best suited for quantizing superintegrable systems--systems with more conserved quantities than degrees of freedom. In this quantization method, the symmetry algebras of the hamiltonian invariants are preserved most naturally. We illustrate the power and simplicity of the method through new applications to nonlinear sigma-models, specifically for Chiral Models and de Sitter N-spheres, where the symmetric quantum hamiltonians amount to compact and elegant expressions, in accord with the Groenewold-van Hove theorem. Additional power and elegance is provided by the us…
