We propose a Hamiltonian for a nonrelativistic spin 1/2 \QTR{it}{free} particle (e.g. an electron) and find that it contains information of its internal degrees of freedom in the rest coordinate system. We comment on the dynamical symmetry associated with the electron \QTR{it}{Zitterbewegung}.
We attempt to shed light on the following question: What happens to the negative energy states when we take the non-relativistic limit of the Dirac equation? The Levy-Leblond equation is the non-relativistic limit of the Dirac equation and describes fermions in the non-relativistic limit. The Levy-Leblond equation includes singular matrices and an attempt to write the Hamiltonian appears to show that the negative energy states are "buried" under an infinity. We attempt to isolate the infinite energy states and also present an equivalent way of viewing the Schrodinger dispersion relation. We pr…
Hamiltonians describing the relativistic quantum dynamics of a particle with an arbitrary spin are shown to exhibit a supersymmetric structure when the even and odd elements of the Hamiltonian commute. For such supersymmetric Hamiltonians an exact Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation exits which brings it into a block-diagonal form separating the positive and negative energy subspaces. Here the supercharges transform between energy eigenstates of positive and negative energy. The relativistic dynamics of a charged particle in a magnetic field is considered for the case of a scalar (spin-zero) boson…
The most general Dirac Hamiltonians in $(1+1)$ dimensions are revisited under the requirement to exhibit a supersymmetric structure. It is found that supersymmetry allows either for a scalar or a pseudo-scalar potential. Their spectral properties are shown to be represented by those of the associated non-relativistic Witten model. The general discussion is extended to include the corresponding relativistic and non-relativistic resolvents. As example the well-studied relativistic Dirac oscillator is considered and the associated resolved kernel is found in a closed form expression by utilising …
In this note we discuss the invariance under general changes of reference frame of all the physical predictions of particle detector models in quantum field theory in general and, in particular, of those used in quantum optics to model atoms interacting with light. We find explicitly how the light-matter interaction Hamiltonians change under general coordinate transformations, and analyze the subtleties of the Hamiltonians commonly used to describe the light-matter interaction when relativistic motion is taken into account.
The resolvent of supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian is studied in detail. Due to supersymmetry the squared Dirac Hamiltonian becomes block-diagonal whose elements are in essence non-relativistic Schrödinger-type Hamiltonians. This enables us to find a Feynman-type path-integral representation of the resulting Green's functions. In addition, we are also able to express the spectral properties of the supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian in terms of those of the non-relativistic Schrödinger Hamiltonians. The methods are explicitly applied to the free Dirac Hamiltonian, the so-called Dirac oscillator an…
In a previous paper we introduced and developed a recursive construction of joint eigenfunctions $J_N(a_+,a_-,b;x,y)$ for the Hamiltonians of the hyperbolic relativistic Calogero-Moser system with arbitrary particle number $N$. In this paper we focus on the cases $N=2$ and $N=3$, and establish a number of conjectured features of the corresponding joint eigenfunctions. More specifically, choosing $a_+,a_-$ positive, we prove that $J_2(b;x,y)$ and $J_3(b;x,y)$ extend to globally meromorphic functions that satisfy various invariance properties as well as a duality relation. We also obtain detaile…
