In a recent paper Bennett et al.[Phys. Rev.A 59, 1070 (1999)] have shown the existence of a basis of product states of a bipartite system with manifest non-local properties. In particular these states cannot be completely discriminated by means of bilocal measurements. In this paper we propose an optical realization of these states and we will show that they cannot be completely discriminate by means of a global measurement using only optical linear elements, conditional transformation and auxiliary photons.
Efficient and reliable measurements of photonic indistinguishability are crucial to solidify claims of a quantum advantage in photonics. Existing indistinguishability witnesses may be vulnerable to implementation loopholes, showing the need for a measurement which depends on as few assumptions as possible. Here, we introduce a semi-device-independent witness of photonic indistinguishability and measure it on an integrated photonic processor, certifying three-photon indistinguishability in a way that is insensitive to implementation errors in our processor.
Deterministic techniques enabling the implementation and engineering of bright and coherent solid-state quantum light sources are key for the reliable realization of a next generation of quantum devices. Such a technology, at best, should allow one to significantly scale up the number of implemented devices within a given processing time. In this work, we discuss a possible technology platform for such a scaling procedure, relying on the application of nanoscale quantum dot imaging to the pillar microcavity architecture, which promises to combine very high photon extraction efficiency and indi…
In the general bipartite quantum system $m \otimes n$, Wang \emph{et al.} [Y.-L Wang \emph{et al.}, Phys. Rev. A \textbf{92}, 032313 (2015)] presented $3(m+n)-9$ orthogonal product states which cannot be distinguished by local operations and classical communication (LOCC). In this paper, we aim to construct less locally indistinguishable orthogonal product states in $m\otimes n $. First, in $3\otimes n (3< n)$ quantum system, we construct $3n-2$ locally indistinguishable orthogonal product states which are not unextendible product bases. Then, for $m\otimes n (4\leq m\leq n)$, we present $3n+m…
We study the local indistinguishability problem of quantum states. By introducing an easily calculated quantity, non-commutativity, we present an criterion which is both necessary and sufficient for the local indistinguishability of a complete set of pure orthogonal product states. A constructive distinguishing procedure to obtain the concrete local measurements and classical communications is given. The non-commutativity of ensembles can be also used to characterize the quantumness for classical-quantum or quantum-classical correlated states.
In this paper, we mainly study the local indistinguishability of multipartite product states. Firstly, we follow the method of Z.-C. Zhang \emph{et al}[Phys. Rev. A 93, 012314(2016)] to give another more concise set of $2n-1$ orthogonal product states in $\mathbb{C}^m\otimes\mathbb{C}^n(4\leq m\leq n)$ which can not be distinguished by local operations and classical communication(LOCC). Then we use the 3 dimension cubes to present some product states which give us an intuitive view how to construct locally indistinguishable product states in tripartite quantum system. At last, we give an expli…
We provide a method for checking indistinguishability of a set of multipartite orthogonal states by local operations and classical communication (LOCC). It bases on the principle of nonincreasing of entanglement under LOCC. This method originates from the one introduced by Ghosh \emph{et al.} (Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{87}, 5807 (2001) (quant-ph/0106148)), though we deal with {\emph pure} states. In the bipartite case, our method is operational, although we do not know whether it can always detect local indistinguishability. We apply our method to show that an arbitrary complete multipartite or…
We provide a first operational method for checking indistinguishability of orthogonal states by local operations and classical communication (LOCC). This method originates from the one introduced by Ghosh et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 5807 (2001) (quant-ph/0106148)), though we deal with pure states. We apply our method to show that an arbitrary complete multipartite orthogonal basis is indistinguishable by LOCC, if it contains at least one entangled state. We also show that probabilistic local distinguishing is possible for full basis if and only if all vectors are product. We employ our method…
Quantum networking relies on entanglement distribution between distant nodes, typically realized by swapping procedures. However, entanglement swapping is a demanding task in practice, mainly because of limited effectiveness of entangled photon sources and Bell-state measurements necessary to realize the process. Here we experimentally activate a remote distribution of two-photon polarization entanglement superseding the need for initial entangled pairs and traditional Bell-state measurements. This alternative procedure is accomplished thanks to the controlled spatial indistinguishability of f…

Nonlocality without entanglement is an interesting field. A manifestation of quantum nonlocality without entanglement is the local indistinguishability of a set of orthogonal product states. In this paper we analyze the character of operators to distinguish a set of full product bases in a multi-partite system, and show that distinguishing perfectly a set of full product bases needs only local projective measurements and classical communication, and these measurements cannot damage each product basis. Employing these conclusions one can discuss local distinguishability of full product bases ea…
We study the local indistinguishability of mutually orthogonal product basis quantum states in the high-dimensional quantum system. In the quantum system of $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$, where $d$ is odd, Zhang \emph{et al} have constructed $d^2$ orthogonal product basis quantum states which are locally indistinguishable in [Phys. Rev. A. {\bf 90}, 022313(2014)]. We find a subset contains with $6d-9$ orthogonal product states which are still locally indistinguishable. Then we generalize our method to arbitrary bipartite quantum system $\mathbb{C}^m\otimes\mathbb{C}^n$. We present a small …
We predict the preservation of temporal indistinguishability of photons propagating through helical coupled-resonator optical waveguides (H-CROWs). H-CROWs exhibit a pseudospin-momentum locked dispersion, which we show suppresses onsite disorder-induced backscattering and group velocity fluctuations. We simulate numerically the propagation of two-photon wavepackets, demonstrating that they exhibit almost perfect Hong-Ou-Mandel dip visibility and then can preserve their quantum coherence even in the presence of moderate disorder, in contrast to regular CROWs which are highly sensitive to disord…
Now, the known ensembles of orthogonal states which are distinguishable by local operators and classical communication (LOCC) satisfy the condition that the sum of Schmidit numbers of the orthogonal states is not bigger than the dimensions of the whole space. A natural question is whether an arbitary ensembles of LOCC-distinguishable orthogonal states satisfies the condition. We first show that, in this paper, the answer is positive. Then we generalize it into multipartite systems, and show that a necessary condition for LOCC-distinguishability of multipartite orthogonal quantum states is that…
The relation between the requirement of efficient implementability and the product state representation of numbers is examined. Numbers are defined to be any model of the axioms of number theory or arithmetic. Efficient implementability (EI) means that the basic arithmetic operations are physically implementable and the space-time and thermodynamic resources needed to carry out the implementations are polynomial in the range of numbers considered. Different models of numbers are described to show the independence of both EI and the product state representation from the axioms. The relation bet…
In quantum computation we are given a finite set of gates and we have to perform a desired operation as a product of them. The corresponding computational problem is approximating an arbitrary unitary as a product in a topological generating set of $SU(d)$. The problem is known to be solvable in time $polylog(1/ε)$ with product length $polylog(1/ε)$, where the implicit constants depend on the given generators. The existing algorithms solve the problem but they need a very slow and space consuming preparatory stage. This stage runs in time exponential in $d^2$ and requires memory of size expone…
We present a space-efficient implementation of the quantum verification of matrix products (QVMP) algorithm and demonstrate its functionality by running it on the Aer simulator with two simulation methods: statevector and matrix product state (MPS). We report circuit metrics (gate count, qubit count, circuit depth), transpilation time, simulation time, and a proof of Grover oracle correctness. Our study concludes that while QVMP can be simulated on moderately sized inputs, it cannot scale to a degree where we can observe any quantum advantage on current quantum hardware due to circuit depth an…
We present a new geminal product wave function ansatz where the geminals are not constrained to be strongly orthogonal nor to be of seniority zero. Instead, we introduce weaker orthogonality constraints between geminals which significantly lower the computational effort, without sacrificing the indistinguishability of the electrons. That is to say, the electron pairs corresponding to the geminals are not fully distinguishable, and their product has still to be antisymmetrized according to the Pauli principle to form a \textit{bona fide} electronic wave function. Our geometrical constraints tran…
We present an implementation of the relativistic quantum-chemical density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) approach based on a matrix-product formalism. Our approach allows us to optimize matrix product state (MPS) wave functions including a variational description of scalar-relativistic effects and spin-orbit coupling from which we can calculate, for example, first-order electric and magnetic properties in a relativistic framework. While complementing our pilot implementation (S. Knecht et al., J. Chem. Phys., 140, 041101 (2014)) this work exploits all features provided by its underlying n…
Motivated by the problem of classifying individuals with a disease versus controls using functional genomic attributes as input, we encode the input as a string of 1s (presence) or 0s (absence) of the genomic attribute across the genome. Blocks of physical regions in the subdivided genome serve as the feature dimensions, which takes full advantage of remaining in the computational basis of a quantum computer. Given that a natural distance between two binary strings is the Hamming distance and that this distance shares properties with an inner product between qubits, we developed two Hamming-di…
The interference of quanta lies at the heart of quantum physics. The multipartite generalization of single-quanta interference creates entanglement, the coherent superposition of states shared by several quanta. Entanglement allows non-local correlations between many quanta and hence is a key resource for quantum information technology. Entanglement is typically considered to be essential for creating non-local correlations, manifested by multipartite interference. Here, we show that this is not the case and demonstrate multiphoton non-local quantum interference without entanglement of any int…
