Quantized nonlinear lattice models are considered for two different classes, boson and fermionic ones. The quantum discrete nonlinear Schroedinger model (DNLS) is our main objective, but its so called modified discrete nonlinear (MDNLS) version is also included, together with the fermionic polaron (FP) model. Based on the respective dynamical symmetries of the models, a method is put forward which by use of the associated boson and spin coherent state vectors (CSV) and a factorization ansatz for the solution of the Schroedinger equation, leads to quasiclassical Hamiltonian equations of motion for the CSV parameters. Analysing the geometrical content of the factorization ansatz made for the state vectors invokes the study of the Riemannian and symplectic geometry of the CSV manifolds as generalized phase spaces. Next, we investigate analytically and numerically the behavior of mean values and uncertainties of some physically interesting observables as well as the modifications in the quantum regime of processes such as the discrete self trapping (DST), in terms of the Q-function and the distribution of excitation quanta of the lattice sites. Quantum DST in the symmetric ordering of lattice operators is found to be relatively enhanced with respect to the classical DST. Finally, the meaning of the factorization ansatz for the lattice wave function is explained in terms of disregarded quantum correlations, and as a quantitative figure of merit for that ansatz a correlation index is introduced.
Two-mode nonlinear coherent states are introduced in this paper. The pair coherent states and the two-mode Perelomov coherent states are special cases of the two-mode nonlinear coherent states. The exponential form of the two-mode nonlinear coherent states is given. The photon-added or photon-subtracted two-mode nonlinear coherent states are found to be two-mode nonlinear coherent states with different nonlinear functions. The parity coherent states are introduced as examples of two-mode nonlinear coherent states, and they are superpositions of two corresponding coherent states. We also discus…
We show that the well-known negative binomial states of the radiation field and their excitations are nonlinear coherent states. Excited nonlinear coherent state are still nonlinear coherent states with different nonlinear functions. We finally give exponential form of the nonlinear coherent states and remark that the binomial states are not nonlinear coherent states.
We introduce the nonlinear spin coherent state via its ladder operator formalism and propose a type of nonlinear spin coherent state by the nonlinear time evolution of spin coherent states. By a new version of spectroscopic squeezing criteria we study the spin squeezing in both the spin coherent state and nonlinear spin coherent state. The results show that the spin coherent state is not squeezed in the x, y, and z directions, and the nonlinear spin coherent state may be squeezed in the x and y directions.
We construct a displacement operator type nonlinear coherent state and examine some of its properties. In particular it is shown that this nonlinear coherent state exhibits nonclassical properties like squeezing and sub-Poissonian behaviour.
From the photon-added one-photon nonlinear coherent states $a^{\dagger m}|α,f>$, we introduce a new type of nonlinear coherent states with negative values of $m.$ The nonlinear coherent states corresponding to the positive and negative values of $m$ are shown to be the result of nonunitarily deforming the number states $|m>$ and $|0>$, respectively. As an example, we study the sub-Poissonian statistics and squeezing effects of the photon-added geometric states with negative values of $m$ in detail. Finally we investigate the photon-added two-photon nonlinear coherent states and find that they …
We construct nonlinear coherent states or f-deformed coherent states for a nonpolynomial nonlinear oscillator which can be considered as placed in the middle between the harmonic oscillator and the isotonic oscillator (Cariñena J F et al, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 41, 085301 (2008)). The deformed annihilation and creation operators which are required to construct the nonlinear coherent states in the number basis are obtained from the solution of the Schrödinger equation. Using these operators, we construct generalized intelligent states, nonlinear coherent states, Gazeau-Klauder coherent states…
We construct even and odd nonlinear coherent states of a parametric oscillator and examine their nonclassical properties. It has been shown that these superpositions exhibit squeezing and photon antibunching which change with time.
We show that a nonlinear Hamiltonian evolution can transform an SU(3) coherent state into a superposition of distinct SU(3) coherent states, with a superposition of two SU(2) coherent states presented as a special case. A phase space representation is depicted by projecting the multi-dimensional $Q$-symbol for the state to a spherical subdomain of the coset space. We discuss realizations of this nonlinear evolution in the contexts of nonlinear optics and Bose--Einstein condensates.
We study theoretically two coupled periodically-curved optical waveguides with Kerr nonlinearity. We find that the tunneling between the waveguides can be suppressed in a wide range of parameters due to nonlinearity. Such suppression of tunneling is different from the coherent destruction of tunneling in a linear medium, which occurs only at the isolated degeneracy point of the quasienergies. We call this novel suppression nonlinear coherent destruction of tunneling.
Considering some important classes of generalized coherent states known in literature, we demonstrated that all of them can be created via conventional fashion, i.e. the "lowering operator eigen-state" and the "displacement operator" techniques using the {\it "nonlinear coherent states"} approach. As a result we obtained a {\it "unified method"} to construct a large class of coherent states which already have been introduced by different prescriptions.
We show that the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model, feasible of experimental realization in cavity or ion-trap quantum electrodynamics, can approximately produce nonlinear coherent states of the field. We introduce these nonlinear coherent states of the field as $2m$-photon added or subtracted coherent states in terms of raising and lowering field operators, also known as London phase operators or Susskind-Glogower operators.
Nonlinear coherent states are an interesting resource for quantum technologies. Here we investigate some critical features of the single-boson nonlinear coherent states, which are theoretically constructed as eigenstates of the annihilation operator and experimentally realized as stationary states of a trapped laser-driven ion. We show that the coherence and the minimum-uncertainty properties of such states are broken for values of the Lamb-Dicke parameter corresponding to the roots of the Laguerre polynomials, which enter their explicit expression. The case of the multiboson nonlinear coheren…
In this paper, we construct nonlinear coherent states for the generalized isotonic oscillator and study their non-classical properties in-detail. By transforming the deformed ladder operators suitably, which generate the quadratic algebra, we obtain Heisenberg algebra. From the algebra we define two non-unitary and an unitary displacement type operators. While the action of one of the non-unitary type operators reproduces the original nonlinear coherent states, the other one fails to produce a new set of nonlinear coherent states (dual pair). We show that these dual states are not normalizable…
The notion of f-oscillators generalizing q-oscillators is introduced. For classical and quantum cases, an interpretation of the f-oscillator is provided as corresponding to a special nonlinearity of vibration for which the frequency of oscillation depends on the energy. The f-coherent states (nonlinear coherent states) generalizing q-coherent states are constructed. Applied to quantum optics, photon distribution function, photon number means, and dispersions are calculated for the f-coherent states as well as the Wigner function and Q-function. As an example, it is shown how this nonlinearity …
In this paper, we introduce an algebraic approach to construct Fokas-Lagerstrom coherent states. To do so, we define deformed creation and annihilation operators associated to this system and investigate their algebra. We show that these operators satisfy the $f$-deformed Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. Then, we propose a theoretical scheme to generate the aforementioned coherent states. The present contribution shows that the Fokas-Lagerstrom nonlinear coherent states possess some non-classical features.
In this paper the possibility of generating nonlinear coherent states of the radiation field in a micromaser is explored. It is shown that these states can be provided in a lossless micromaser cavity under the weak Jaynes-Cummings interaction with intensity-dependent coupling of large number of individually injected two-level atoms in a coherent superposition of the upper and lower states. In particular, we show that the so-called nonlinear squeezed vacuum and nonlinear squeezed first excited states, as well as the even and odd nonlinear coherent states can be generated in the presence of two-…
We demonstrate several new results for the nonlinear interferometer, which emerge from a formalism which describes in an elegant way the output field of the nonlinear interferometer as two-mode entangled coherent states. We clarify the relationship between squeezing and entangled coherent states, since a weak nonlinear evolution produces a squeezed output, while a strong nonlinear evolution produces a two-mode, two-state entangled coherent state. In between these two extremes exist superpositions of two-mode coherent states manifesting varying degrees of entanglement for arbitrary values of th…
We study phase properties of a displacement operator type nonlinear coherent state. In particular we evaluate the Pegg-Barnett phase distribution and compare it with phase distributions associated with the Husimi Q function and the Wigner function. We also study number- phase squeezing of this state.
Using the {\it nonlinear coherent states method}, a formalism for the construction of the coherent states associated to {\it "inverse bosonic operators"} and their dual family has been proposed. Generalizing the approach, the "inverse of $f$-deformed ladder operators" corresponding to the nonlinear coherent states in the context of quantum optics and the associated coherent states have been introduced. Finally, after applying the proposal to a few known physical systems, particular nonclassical features as sub-Poissonian statistics and the squeezing of the quadratures of the radiation field co…
The output fields of a pair of coherently coupled nonlinear optical cavities are found to exhibit strong optical entanglement. For sufficiently strong coupling the quantum correlations become asynchronous providing a resource for quantum information protocols such as all-optical quantum memories. A straightforward experimental implementation applicable to whispering gallery mode resonators such as microtoroids is proposed.
On the basis of the f-deformed oscillator formalism, we propose to construct nonlinear coherent states for Hamiltonian systems having linear and quadratic terms in the the number operator by means of the two following definitions: i) as deformed annihilation operator coherent states (AOCS) and ii) as deformed displacement operator coherent states (DOCS). For the particular cases of the Morse and Modified Pöschl-Teller potentials, modeled as f-deformed oscillators (both supporting a finite number of bound states), the properties of their corresponding nonlinear coherent states, viewed as DOCS, …
The states $|α,m>$, defined as ${a^{\dagger}}^{m}|α>$ up to a normalization constant and $m$ is a nonnegative integer, are shown to be the eigenstates of $f(\hat{n},m)\hat{a}$ where $f(\hat{n},m)$ is a nonlinear function of the number operator $\hat{n}$. The explicit form of $f(\hat{n},m)$ is constructed. The eigenstates of this operator for negative values of $m$ are introduced. The properties of these states are discussed and compared with those of the state $|α,m >$.
We show that a class of even and odd nonlinear coherent states, defined as the eigenstates of product of a nonlinear function of the number operator and the square of the boson annihilation operator, can be generated in the center-of-mass motion of a trapped and bichromatically laser-driven ion. The nonclasscial properties of the states are studied.
It is shown here and in the preceeding paper (quant-ph/0201129) that vector coherent state theory, the theory of induced representations, and geometric quantization provide alternative but equivalent quantizations of an algebraic model. The relationships are useful because some constructions are simpler and more natural from one perspective than another. More importantly, each approach suggests ways of generalizing its counterparts. In this paper, we focus on the construction of quantum models for algebraic systems with intrinsic degrees of freedom. Semi-classical partial quantizations, for wh…
In this paper, to study the effects of a nonlinear medium on the atom-field interaction, we use the nonlinear coherent states approach. For this purpose, we choose the two-mode cross-Kerr as the our nonlinear optical phenomena and with the use of it's algebra, we show that it can be described equivalently by a deformed oscillator algebra and also, by a deformed (su(2)) algebra. Then, we construct the associated coherent states and investigate their statistical properties. After that, as an example of applicability of the constructed two-mode nonlinear coherent states, we investigate the nonlin…
The quantum Rabi oscillations in a coherently driven quantum dot embedded in a high-Q doubly resonant semiconductor micro-cavity in the presence of a strong second-order nonlinear medium is investigated theoretically. It is shown that the second order nonlinearity effect the Rabi oscillations in a significant manner.
We study some basic quantum confinement effects through investigation a deformed harmonic oscillator algebra. We show that spatial confinement effects on a quantum harmonic oscillator can be represented by a deformation function within the framework of nonlinear coherent states theory. Using the deformed algebra, we construct a quantum field theory in confined space. In particular, we find that the confinement influences on some physical properties of the electromagnetic field and it gives rise to nonlinear interaction. Furthermore, we propose a physical scheme to generate the nonlinear cohere…
This article is an illustration of the construction of coherent and generalized intelligent states which has been recently proposed by us for an arbitrary quantum system $[ 1] $. We treat the quantum system submitted to the infinite square well potential and the nonlinear oscillators. By means of the analytical representation of the coherent states à la Gazeau-Klauder and those à la Klauder-Perelomov, we derive the generalized intelligent states in analytical ways.
Beam splitter mediated entanglement of nonlinear photon-added coherent states was studied by Honarasa, Bagheri and Gharaati [1]. We believe that this work contains errors in numerical computations of linear entropy and Mandel parameter which lead to wrong conclusions. We point out the possible errors and describe the necessary corrections. The conclusions based on our arguments are in complete agreement with previously published literature.
Squeezed and rotated quadrature of an ion in a Paul trap is discussed in connection with reconstructing its quantum state using symplectic-tomography method. Marginal distributions of the quadrature for squeezed and correlated states and for nonlinear coherent states of a trapped ion are obtained and the density matrices in the Fock basis are expressed explicitly in terms of these marginal distributions.
In this paper we study the quantum phase properties of {\it "nonlinear coherent states"} and {\it "solvable quantum systems with discrete spectra"} using the Pegg-Barnett formalism in a unified approach. The presented procedure will then be applied to few special solvable quantum systems with known discrete spectrum as well as to some new classes of nonlinear oscillators with particular nonlinearity functions. Finally the associated phase distributions and their nonclasscial properties such as the squeezing in number and phase operators have been investigated, numerically.
Various aspects of coherent states of nonlinear $su(2)$ and $su(1,1)$ algebras are studied. It is shown that the nonlinear $su(1,1)$ Barut-Girardello and Perelomov coherent states are related by a Laplace transform. We then concentrate on the derivation and analysis of the statistical and geometrical properties of these states. The Berry's phase for the nonlinear coherent states is also derived.
We construct Deformed Photon Added Nonlinear Coherent States (DPANCSs) by application of the deformed creation operator upon the Nonlinear Coherent States obtained as eigenstates of the deformed annihilation operator and by application of a deformed displacement operator upon the vacuum state. We evaluate some statistical properties like the Mandel parameter, Husimi and Wigner functions for these states and analyze their differences, we give closed analytical expressions for them. We found a profound difference in the statistical properties of the DPANCSs obtained from the two above mentioned …
We introduce a generalized class of states called K-quantum nonlinear coherent states. Each K-state has K j-components corresponding to one and the same eigenvalue. Each Kj-component can be composed of K K=1-states in a correlated manner. The introduced states are shown to be realized in the long-term behavior of the vibrational motion of an ion properly trapped and laser-driven. Nonclassical properties of the states are studied in detail.
We cast the phase state as a $SU(1,1)$ nonlinear coherent state to support the idea that the $SU(1,1)$ representation of the electromagnetic field may be helpful in some instances and to bring forward that it may relate to the phase state problem. We also construct nonlinear coherent states related to the exponential phase operator and provide their corresponding nonlinear annihilation operators. Finally, we discuss the propagation of classical fields through arrays of coupled waveguides that are solved through the use of nonlinear coherent states of $SU(1,1)$ or the exponential phase operator…
Light-matter interactions that are nonlinear with respect to the photon number reveal the true quantum nature of coherent states. We characterize how coherent states depart from Gaussian by the emergence of negative values in their Wigner function during the evolution while maintaining their characteristic Poissonian photon statistics. Such states have non-minimum uncertainty yet present a metrological advantage that can reach the Heisenberg limit. Non-Gaussianity of light arises as a general property of nonlinear interactions, which only requires a polarizable media, resonant or dispersive. O…
Considering the concept of "{\it nonlinear coherent states}", we will study the interference effects by introducing the {\it "superposition of two classes of nonlinear coherent states"} which are $\fracπ{2}$ out of phase. The formalism has then been applied to a few physical systems as "harmonious states", "SU(1,1) coherent states" and "the center of mass motion of trapped ion". Finally, the nonclassical properties such as sub-Poissonian statistics, quadrature squeezing, amplitude-squared squeezing and Wigner distribution function of the superposed states have been investigated, numerically. E…
We develop generalized coherent states for a class of nonlinear oscillators with position-dependent effective mass in the context of the Gazeau-Klauder formalism and discuss some of their properties. In order to investigate the temporal evolution we first explore the statistical properties by means of weighting distribution and the Mandel parameter. It is found that the temporal evolution of the coherent states may exhibit the phenomena of quantum revivals and fractional revivals for a particular choice of position-dependent mass oscillator.
In this paper we study some basic quantum confinement effects through investigation of a deformed harmonic oscillator algebra. We show that spatial confinement effects on a quantum harmonic oscillator can be represented by a deformation function within the framework of nonlinear coherent states theory. We construct the coherent states associated with the spatially confined quantum harmonic oscillator in a one-dimensional infinite well and examine some of their quantum statistical properties, including sub-poissonian statistics and quadrature squeezing.
Coherent state theory is shown to reproduce three categories of representations of the spectrum generating algebra for an algebraic model: (i) classical realizations which are the starting point for geometric quantization; (ii) induced unitary representations corresponding to prequantization; and (iii) irreducible unitary representations obtained in geometric quantization by choice of a polarization. These representations establish an intimate relation between coherent state theory and geometric quantization in the context of induced representations.
In this paper, using an exponential function of intensity of radiation field, two new classes of nonlinear coherent states will be constructed. For the first class, we choose the nonlinearity function as f(n) = exp(βn), where βcharacterizes the strength of the nonlinearity of the quantum system. We show that, the corresponding β-states possess a collection of non-classicality features, only for the particular values of βand z. But, interestingly there exists finite (threshold) values of β, for which all of the non-classicality signs will disappear, in appropriate regions around the origin of t…
Here we discuss generation of non-classical states of bosonic mode with the help of artificially designed loss, namely the nonlinear coherent loss. We show how to generate superpositions of Fock states, and how it is possible to "comb" the initial states leaving only states with certain properties in the resulting superposition (for example, a generation of a superposition of Fock states with odd number of particles). We discuss purity of generated states and estimate maximal achievable generation fidelity.
We construct nonlinear coherent states for the Susskind-Glogower operators by the application of the displacement operator on the vacuum state. We also construct nonlinear coherent states as eigenfunctions of a Hamiltonian constructed with the Susskind-Glogower operators. We generalize the solution of the eigen- function problem to an arbitrary |mi initial condition. To analyze the obtained results, we plot the Husimi Q function, the photon number probability distribution and the Mandel Q-parameter. For both cases, we find that the constructed states exhibit interesting nonclassical features, …
In this paper, we will try to present a general formalism for the construction of {\it deformed photon-added nonlinear coherent states} (DPANCSs) $|α, f, m>$, which in special case lead to the well-known photon-added coherent state (PACS) $|α, m>$. Some algebraic structures of the introduced DPANCSs are studied and particularly the resolution of the identity, as the most important property of generalized coherent states, is investigated. Meanwhile, it will be demonstrated that, the introduced states can also be classified in the $f$-deformed coherent states, with a special nonlinearity functio…
As a substantial generalization of the technique for constructing canonical and the related nonlinear and q-deformed coherent states, we present here a method for constructing vector coherent states in the same spirit. These vector coherent states may have a finite or an infinite number of components. As examples we first apply the technique to construct vector coherent states using the Plancherel isometry for groups and vector coherent states associated to Clifford algebras, in particular quaternions. As physical examples, we discuss vector coherent states for a quantum optical model and fina…
Using the {\it analytic representation} of the so-called Gazeau-Klauder coherent states(CSs), we shall demonstrate that how a new class of generalized CSs namely the {\it family of dual states} associated with theses states can be constructed through viewing these states as {\it temporally stable nonlinear CSs}. Also we find that the ladder operators, as well as the displacement type operator corresponding to these two pairs of generalized CSs, may be easily obtained using our formalism, without employing the {\it supersymmetric quantum mechanics}(SUSYQM) techniques. Then, we have applied this…
We report the formation of a general superposition of coherent states in exact analytical solution of the Schrodingers equatin for atom-photon interaction by taking into account the role of virtual photons. Despite some known superposition of quantum states, the general superposition state introduced in this letter constructed without any nonlinear effect. The Yurke- Stoler state and its special cases, the even and odd cat states, obtained as some simple examples of the method. A general experimental setup is proposed to realize a variety of superposition states.
All existing heat machines are dissipative open systems. Hence, they cannot operate fully coherently. We propose to replace this conventional thermodynamic paradigm by a completely different one, whereby heat machines are nonlinear coherent closed systems comprised of few field modes. Their thermal-state input is transformed by nonlinear interactions into non-thermal output with controlled quantum fluctuations and the capacity to deliver work in a chosen mode. This new paradigm allows the bridging of quantum coherent and thermodynamic descriptions.
In this paper, we derive the dynamical algebra of a particle confined in an infinite spherical well by using the $f$-deformed oscillator approach. We consider an exciton with definite angular momentum in a wide quantum dot interacting with two laser beams. We show that under the weak confinement condition, and quantization of the center-of-mass motion of exciton, the stationary state of it can be considered as a special kind of nonlinear coherent states which exhibits the quadrature squeezing.
The coherent state of a nonlinear oscillator having a nonlinear spectrum is constructed using Gazeau Klauder formalism. The weighting distribution and the Mandel parameter are studied. Details of the revival structure arising from different time scales underlying the quadratic energy spectrum are investigated by the phase analysis of the autocorrelation function.
We propose and analyze a scheme for realizing tunable coherent perfect absorption (CPA) and reflection (CPR) in a three-level $Λ$-type atom-cavity system. With EIT-type interference induced by a coherent coupling laser, the scheme provides a new method of attaining tunable near CPR at two-photon resonance. By different coupling strength, the system can be excited from linear CPA regime into nonlinear even bistable CPA regime without changing the frequency of the probe field, where the hysteresis cycle of the bistability is controllable. In addition, the CPA regime can be transferred into the n…
It is well-known that some nonlinear phenomena such as strong photon blockade are hard to be observed in optomechanical system with current experimental technology. Here, we present a coherent feedback control strategy in which a linear cavity is coherently controlled by an optomechanical controller in a feedback manner. The coherent feedback loop transfers and enhances quantum nonlinearity from the controller to the controlled cavity, which makes it possible to observe strong nonlinear effects in either linear cavity or optomechanical cavity. More interestingly, we find that the strong photon…
We study coherent backscattering of a quasi-monochromatic laser by a dilute gas of cold two-level atoms. We consider the perturbative regime of weak intensities, where nonlinear effects arise from {\em inelastic} two-photon scattering processes. Here, coherent backscattering can be formed by interference between {\em three} different scattering amplitudes. Consequently, if elastically scattered photons are filtered out from the photodetection signal by means of suitable frequency-selective detection, we find the nonlinear backscattering enhancement factor to exceed the linear barrier two.
The (over)completeness of even and odd nonlinear charge coherent states is proved and their generation explored. They are demonstrated to be generalized entangled nonlinear coherent states. A $D$-algebra realization of the SU$_f$(1,1) generators is given in terms of them. They are shown to exhibit SU$_f$(1,1) squeezing and two-mode $f$-antibunching for some particular types of $f$-nonlinearity, but neither one-mode nor two-mode $f$-squeezing.
The interaction of coherent light with a nonlinear medium is modeled here by a general quantum anharmonic oscillator. The model is not exactly solvable in a closed analytical form. But we need operator solutions of the equations of motion corresponding to these models in order to study the quantum fluctuations of coherent light in nonlinear media. In the present work we derive approximate operator solutions. From these solutions we observe that there exists an apparent discrepancy between the solutions obtained by different techniques. We compare different solutions and conclude that all corre…
In this paper, we examine the modification of specific nonclassical properties of the nonlinear coherent state on sphere upon perpendicular propagation through an absorptive and dispersive dielectric slab at finite temperature. For this purpose, by describing the dielectric dispersion of the slab by Lorentz model, the quadrature squeezing and the Mandel parameter are evaluated for the transmitted state. A generalization of single-mode nonlinear coherent state to the continuum-mode is considered. The degree of second-order coherence is instead calculated for a continuum nonlinear coherent state…
In the control of classical mechanical systems, the feedback has been successfully applied to the production of the desired nonlinear dynamics. However, how much this can be done is still an open problem in quantum mechanical systems. This paper proposes a scheme of generating strong nonlinear quantum effects via the recently developed coherent feedback techniques, which can be shown to outperform the measurement-based quantum feedback scheme that can only generate pseudo-nonlinear quantum effects. Such advancement is demonstrated by two application examples in quantum optics on chip. In the f…
We propose a protocol for the second-order nonlinear phase estimation with a coherent state as input and balanced homodyne detection as measurement strategy. The sensitivity is sub-Heisenberg limit, which scales as $N^{-3/2}$ for $N$ photons on average. By ruling out hidden resources in quantum Fisher information, the fundamental sensitivity limit is recalculated and compared to the optimal sensitivity of our protocol. In addition, we investigate the effect of photon loss on sensitivity, and discuss the robustness of measurement strategy. The results indicate that our protocol is nearly optima…
