Unitary representations of the fundamental group of a Kahler manifold correspond to polystable vector bundles (with vanishing Chern classes). Semisimple linear representations correspond to polystable Higgs bundles. In this paper we find the objects corresponding to affine representations: the linear part gives a Higgs bundle and the translation part corresponds to an element of a generalized de Rham cohomology.
Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over a perfect field $k$. We study a certain normal reductive monoid $\overline M$ associated to a parabolic $k$-subgroup $P$ of $G$. The group of units of $\overline M$ is the Levi factor $M$ of $P$. We show that $\overline M$ is a retract of the affine closure of the quasi-affine variety $G/U(P)$. Fixing a parabolic $P^-$ opposite to $P$, we prove that the affine closure of $G/U(P)$ is a retract of the affine closure of the boundary degeneration $(G \times G)/(P \times_M P^-)$. Using idempotents, we relate $\overline M$ to the Vinberg semigroup of $G$. …
We give an example of geometric construction (via Hecke correspondences) of certain representations of the affine Lie algebra $\hat{gl}_n$. The construction is similar to the one of [FK] for the Lie algebra $sl_n$. Given a surface with a smooth embedded curve $C$ we consider the moduli spaces $K_α$ of rank $n$ parabolic sheaves satisfying certain conditions. The top dimensional irreducible components of $K_α$ are numbered by the isomorphism classes of $α$-dimensional nilpotent representations of the cyclic quiver $\tilde{A}_{n-1}$. Summing up over all $α\in{\Bbb N}[{\Bbb Z}/n{\Bbb Z}]$ we obta…
This is a continuation of the sequence of papers \cite{HN2}, \cite{H99} in the study of the cocenters and class polynomials of affine Hecke algebras $\ch$ and their relation to affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. Let $w$ be a $P$-alcove element, as introduced in \cite{GHKR} and \cite{GHN}. In this paper, we study the image of $T_w$ in the cocenter of $\ch$. In the process, we obtain a Bernstein presentation of the cocenter of $\ch$. We also obtain a comparison theorem among the class polynomials of $\ch$ and of its parabolic subalgebras, which is analogous to the Hodge-Newton decomposition theor…
The Peterson isomorphism relates the homology of the affine Grassmannian to the quantum cohomology of any flag variety. In the case of a partial flag, Peterson's map is only a surjection, and one needs to quotient by a suitable ideal on the affine side to map isomorphically onto the quantum cohomology. We provide a detailed exposition of this parabolic Peterson isomorphism in the case of the Grassmannian of m-planes in complex n-space, including an explicit recipe for doing quantum Schubert calculus in terms of the appropriate subset of non-commutative k-Schur functions. As an application, we …
We propose a generalization of Springer representations to the context of groups over a global function field. The global counterpart of the Grothendieck simultaneous resolution is the parabolic Hitchin fibration. We construct an action of the affine Weyl group on the direct image complex of the parabolic Hitchin fibration. In particular, we get representations of the affine Weyl group on the cohomology of parabolic Hitchin fibers, providing the first step towards a global Springer theory.
We construct an action of the graded double affine Hecke algebra (DAHA) on the parabolic Hitchin complex, extending the affine Weyl group action constructed in \cite{GSI}. In particular, we get representations of the degenerate DAHA on the cohomology of parabolic Hitchin fibers. We also generalize our construction to {\em parahoric} versions of Hitchin stacks, including the construction of 'tHooft operators as a special case. We then study the interaction of the DAHA action and the cap product action given by the Picard stack acting on the parabolic Hitchin stack.
We prove an explicit formula for the Poincaré polynomials of parabolic character varieties of Riemann surfaces with semisimple local monodromies, which was conjectured by Hausel, Letellier and Rodriguez-Villegas. Using an approach of Mozgovoy and Schiffmann the problem is reduced to counting pairs of a parabolic vector bundles and a nilpotent endomorphism of prescribed generic type. The generating function counting these pairs is shown to be a product of Macdonald polynomials and the function counting pairs without parabolic structure. The modified Macdonald polynomial $\tilde H_λ[X;q,t]$ is i…
Affine Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials on the subregular cell in non simply-laced Lie algebras: with an application to character formulae (with an appendix by Roman Bezrukavnikov, Vasily Krylov, and Kenta Suzuki)
We prove de Cataldo-Hausel-Migliorini's P=W conjecture in arbitrary rank for parabolic Higgs bundles labeled by the affine Dynkin diagrams $\tilde{A}_0$, $\tilde{D}_4$, $\tilde{E}_6$, $\tilde{E}_7$, and $\tilde{E}_8$. Our proof relies on the study of the tautological classes on the Hilbert scheme of points on an elliptic surface with respect to the perverse filtration.
This paper is devoted to the study of the gluing construction for perverse sheaves on $G/U$ introduced by Kazhdan and Laumon ($G$ is a semisimple gourp, $U$ is the unipotent radical of a Borel subgroup in $G$). Kazhdan and Laumon conjectured that all Ext-groups in the glued category are finite-dimensional and that global cohomological dimension is finite. We prove the first part of this conjecture. In the appendix we show that the simple object in the glued category corresponding to the constant sheaf has infinite cohomological dimension, thus disproving the second part of the above conjecture…
We introduce an Uhlenbeck closure of the space of based maps from projective line to the Kashiwara flag scheme of an untwisted affine Lie algebra. For the algebra $\hat{sl}_n$ this space of based maps is isomorphic to the moduli space of locally free parabolic sheaves on $P^1\times P^1$ trivialized at infinity. The Uhlenbeck closure admits a resolution of singularities: the moduli space of torsion free parabolic sheaves on $P^1\times P^1$ trivialized at infinity. We compute the Intersection Cohomology sheaf of the Uhlenbeck space using this resolution of singularities. The moduli spaces of par…
Let $G$ be an affine group over a field of characteristic not two. A $G$-torsor is called isotropic if it admits reduction of structure to a proper parabolic subgroup of $G$. This definition generalizes isotropy of affine groups and involutions of central simple algebras. When does $G$ admit anisotropic torsors? Building on work of J. Tits, we answer this question for simple groups. We also give an answer for connected and semisimple $G$ under certain restrictions on its root system.
For a semi-simple simply connected algebraic group G we introduce certain parabolic analogues of the Nekrasov partition function (introduced by Nekrasov and studied recently by Nekrasov-Okounkov and Nakajima-Yoshioka for G=SL(n)). These functions count (roughly speaking) principal G-bundles on the projective plane with a trivialization at infinity and with a parabolic structure at the horizontal line. When the above parabolic subgroup is a Borel subgroup we show that the corresponding partition function is basically equal to the Whittaker matrix coefficient in the universal Verma module over c…
We study a toric degeneration of the Cox ring of the moduli of principal $SL_m(\mathbb{C})$ bundles on the projective line, with quasi parabolic data given by the the stabilizer of the highest weight vector in $\mathbb{C}^m$ and its dual $\bigwedge^{m-1}(\mathbb{C}^m)$. The affine semigroup algebra resulting from this degeneration is described using the $K-$Pieri rule from Kac-Moody representation theory. Along the way we give a proof of the $K-$Pieri rule which utilizes the classical Pieri rule and elements of commutative algebra, and we describe a relationship between the Cox ring and a clas…
We determine the image of the (strongly) parabolic Hitchin map for all parabolics in classical groups and $G_2$. Surprisingly, we find that the image is isomorphic to an affine space in all cases, except for certain "bad parabolics" in type $D$, where the image can be singular.
Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup in $G=SL_n(\mathbf k)$, for $\mathbf k$ an algebraically closed field. We show that there is a $G$-stable closed subvariety of an affine Schubert variety in an affine partial flag variety which is a natural compactification of the cotangent bundle $T^*G/P$. Restricting this identification to the conormal variety $N^*X(w)$ of a Schubert divisor $X(w)$ in $G/P$, we show that there is a compactification of $N^*X(w)$ as an affine Schubert variety. It follows that $N^*X(w)$ is normal, Cohen-Macaulay, and Frobenius split.
We show that there is an affine Schubert variety in the infinite dimensional partial Flag variety (associated to the two- step parabolic subgroup of the Kac-Moody group {\hat SL(n)}, corresponding to omitting α_0,α_d) which is a natural compactification of the cotangent bundle to the Grassmann variety.
We show how to obtain from highest weight representations of Krichever-Novikov algebras of affine type (also called higher genus affine Kac-Moody algebras) representations of centrally extended Krichever-Novikov vector field algebras via the Sugawara construction. This generalizes classical results where one obtains representations of the Virasoro algebra. Relations between the weights of the corresponding representations are given and Casimir operators are constructed. In an appendix the Sugawara construction for the multi-point situation is done.
Schubert varieties in finite dimensional flag manifolds G/P are a well-studied family of projective varieties indexed by elements of the corresponding Weyl group W. In particular, there are many tests for smoothness and rational smoothness of these varieties. One key result due to Lakshmibai-Sandhya is that in type A the smooth Schubert varieties are precisely those that are indexed by permutations that avoid the patterns 4231 and 3412. Recently, there has been a flurry of research related to the infinite dimensional analogs of flag manifolds corresponding with G being a Kac-Moody group and W …
We give a universal construction of a derived affine group scheme and its representation category from a symmetric monoidal infinity-category, which we shall call the tannnakization of a symmetric monoidal infinity-category. This can be viewed as infinity-categorical generalization of the work of Joyal-Street and Nori. We then apply it to the stable infinity-category of mixed motives equipped with the realization functor of a mixed Weil cohomology and obtain a derived motivic Galois group whose representation category has a universality, and which represents the automorphism group of the reali…
Let G be a simple and simply-connected complex algebraic group, P \subset G a parabolic subgroup. We prove an unpublished result of D. Peterson which states that the quantum cohomology QH^*(G/P) of a flag variety is, up to localization, a quotient of the homology H_*(Gr_G) of the affine Grassmannian \Gr_G of G. As a consequence, all three-point genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants of $G/P$ are identified with homology Schubert structure constants of H_*(Gr_G), establishing the equivalence of the quantum and homology affine Schubert calculi. For the case G = B, we use the Mihalcea's equivariant …
Parabolic SL(r,C)-opers were defined and investigated in [BDP] in the set-up of vector bundles on curves with a parabolic structure over a divisor. Here we introduce and study holomorphic differential operators between parabolic vector bundles over curves. We consider the parabolic SL(r,C)-opers on a Riemann surface X with given singular divisor S and with fixed parabolic weights satisfying the condition that all parabolic weights at any point $x_i$ in S are integral multiples of $\frac{1}{2N_i+1}$, where $N_i > 1$ are fixed integers. We prove that this space of opers is canonically identified…
In this paper we classify and give Kazhdan-Lusztig type character formulas for equivariantly irreducible representations of Lie algebras of reductive algebraic groups over a field of large positive characteristic. The equivariance is with respect to a group whose connected component is a torus. Character computation is done in two steps. First, we treat the case of distinguished $p$-characters: those that are not contained in a proper Levi. Here we essentially show that the category of equivariant modules we consider is a cell quotient of an affine parabolic category $\mathcal{O}$. For this, w…
The affine Weyl group acts on the cohomology (with compact support) of affine Springer fibers (local Springer theory) and of parabolic Hitchin fibers (global Springer theory). In this paper, we show that in both situations, the action of the center of the group algebra of the affine Weyl group (the spherical part) factors through the action of the component group of the relevant centralizers. In the situation of affine Springer fibers, this partially verifies a conjecture of Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson and Bezrukavnikov-Varshavsky. We first prove this result for the global Springer action, and…
Let G be a complex affine algebraic reductive group, and let K be a maximal compact subgroup of G. Fix elements h_1,...,h_m in K. For n greater than or equal to 0, let X (respectively, Y) be the space of equivalence classes of representations of the free group of m+n generators in G (respectively, K) such that for each i between 1 and m, the image of the i-th free generator is conjugate to h_i. These spaces are parabolic analogues of character varieties of free groups. We prove that Y is a strong deformation retraction of X. In particular, X and Y are homotopy equivalent. We also describe expl…
